Eve J. Chung is a Taiwanese American lawyer and women's human rights specialist. Have you ever walked into a meeting and felt like everyone was just wearing a mask of professional perfection while their true selves stayed hidden in the parking lot? It is easy to get lost in the data and the dashboards of modern work, but we often forget that the people behind those numbers are what actually drive the results. We all want to be part of a team where we are seen for who we really are rather than just what we can produce. In this episode, I sit down with Veronique Subileau, the Senior Vice President of HR at UGI Corporation, to explore the invisible roots of corporate culture that turn a 140-year-old energy company into a breakthrough environment. Veronique shares her unique philosophy on why leaders must touch the heart before speaking about results, offering practical tools like her four core questions regarding fun and purpose to foster deep human connection. You'll learn how to navigate the tension between high-performance standards and radical authenticity through the company's poetic values framework while discovering why the shadow you cast as a leader determines the energy of your entire team. We also dive into the future of work as Veronique explains how to invest in humans as much as technology by using AI to unleash time so employees can shift from being human doings to true human beings. This episode redefines the role of the leader as a human prompt engineer who knows how to pull unique creativity and heart out of a workforce in an increasingly automated world. AI is increasingly being used to mediate loneliness nationally. Jan points out that recent studies clearly show nothing can replace the physical and mental benefits of human interaction. And each of us can do one simple thing this week to feel the power of those benefits and claim the good stuff we each deserve.
The Congo Free State eventually dissolved, but what does it mean to us today? How did we collectively forget a tragedy on this scale? Why do some historical stories get buried in the sands of time while others don't? Historian Adam Hochschild calls our memory of the Congo Free State the "Great Forgetting." This is the final episode in the Belgian Congo series. Thanks for listening. -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! As atrocities and human rights violations continue in the Congo Free State, King Leopold II of Belgium sends out a "Commission of Inquiry" to the Congo to clear his name. Things don't go as planned. After one final hail mary attempt to sway public opinion, Leopold finally agrees to sell his colony to the state of Belgium. For many, the long nightmare was now over. For others, it was only beginning. This is Part 6 in a series on the Congo Free State. It covers how Leopold lost control of his colony, some of his last ditch attempts to maintain it for himself, the transition to Belgian Colonial Rule, and a brief history of Congo after independence. The last episode will cover what historian Adam Hochschild calls "The Great Forgetting." -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! He emphasizes that the human heart was created to worship, and if God isn't filling that void, other things—like sports, technology, control, or societal validation—inevitably will (19:35-20:20).Biblical Context: The message references the Israelites and the Golden Calf (8:33-12:50). He explains that the Israelites turned to idols because they could not sustain faithfulness without visible leadership, a pattern that persists today as people trade God's truth for cultural comfort (10:57-12:47).Four Ways We Become Idol Makers: Long outlines four specific ways we displace God in our lives:Trading trust for control (25:15-31:56).Seeking certainty in an uncertain world (29:33-35:04).Elevating others (or things) above God (35:04-44:53).Attaching our identity to something other than God (44:53-51:41).Practical Application: The speaker shares his personal experience of identifying idols and the importance of prayer, fasting, and surrendering control to God to find true peace, satisfaction, and significance (41:14-44:53, 58:02-59:03).The Gospel Message: Long concludes by pointing to Jesus Christ as the ultimate deliverer from idolatry. He offers an invitation to those who have not yet put their trust in Jesus to receive the gift of salvation and begin a new life (54:00-1:02:26).Additionally, the video includes church updates, including a prayer of blessing over staff members Tristan, Brooklyn, and Jacob (0:39-4:38), and a recap of the Men of Valor Conference (5:25-6:05). As the evidence of atrocities in the Congo Free State became impossible to ignore, direct African resistance developed in numerous places around the Congo. As this was happening, a large and sophisticated human rights campaign developed around some courageous informants, journalists, and human rights activists. King Leopold II of Belgium then developed a response in one of the first modern versions of an information/misinformation shadow war in the age of mass media. This episode is Part 5 in a series on the Belgium Congo. It discusses African Resistance to the Congo Free State, E.D. Morel's media campaign to end the atrocities in the Congo, other informants like Roger Casement, King Leopold's response to the accusations, the role of media in shaping perceptions in Belgium, the most successful feat of pimpery of all time, and why much of this seems very modern. Future episodes will cover the end of the Congo Free State and it's ultimate legacy. -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! We are quick to label selfish or defensive behavior as "narcissism," but what if the issue runs deeper than personality? In this episode, we explore how disordered desires, our need for control, comfort, or validation, shape the way we relate to others and quietly erode connection. This conversation unpacks the difference between healthy self-awareness and self-absorption, why freedom begins when we stop defending ourselves, and how real change doesn't come from trying harder—but from surrendering deeper. You'll be challenged to look beneath behavior and consider what your heart is truly after. If you're tired of surface-level fixes and ready for lasting transformation, this episode invites you to step out of self-protection and into humility, empathy, and freedom. Episode Takeaways: What we often label as narcissism or selfishness is rooted deeper than personality. It flows from disordered desires and a heart that wants control, comfort, or validation more than connection. Healthy self-awareness leads to growth, humility, and empathy. Self-absorption does the opposite , it narrows our world until everything revolves around us and what we want. Freedom starts when we stop defending ourselves. Change doesn't come from trying harder, but surrendering deeper. Quotes from this Episode: "Selfishness doesn't start with what we do — it starts with what we want most." "Narcissism isn't always loud or arrogant; sometimes it's quiet, defensive, and deeply fragile." "You can't out-behave a heart problem — transformation always starts inside." "The more we focus on protecting ourselves, the less capable we are of loving others." "Growth happens when we stop asking, 'How does this affect me?' and start asking, 'How did this affect you?'" "Humility isn't thinking less of yourself — it's thinking of yourself less." "God isn't after better versions of us; He's after surrendered hearts." Take Time to Talk About It: Where do you notice selfishness showing up most in your relationships — words, reactions, expectations, or silence? How can you tell the difference between healthy self-care and self-centeredness in your own life? What might change if you stopped defending yourself and started listening with curiosity instead? In today's webinar, Tom read the first chapter of a new writing project: Principles of New Biology, a foundational exploration of how life is formed and maintained through wave-like, electromagnetic forces rather than random chemistry. He discussed how traditional systems like Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda recognized this creative process—long before modern science abandoned the concept of a creator or blueprint—and how our health depends on remaining faithful to the original “word” or organizing frequency that gives us form.Q&A topics included: - Is DNA testing accurate? - What is the role of heat (fever, hot flashes) in healing? - Crystalline structure and species resonance - Cavitations and dental healing - Straphanthus and its safety with cardiac medications - Hydroxychloroquine, quercetin, and ivermectin – what do they really do? - The role of electromagnetic fields in heart function and circulation - Updated insights since Human Heart, Cosmic HeartSupport the showWebsites:https://drtomcowan.com/https://www.drcowansgarden.com/https://newbiologyclinic.com/https://newbiologycurriculum.com/Instagram: @TalkinTurkeywithTomFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrTomCowan/Bitchute: https://www.bitchute.com/channel/CivTSuEjw6Qp/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzxdc2o0Q_XZIPwo07XCrNg

With King Leopold II of Belgium now in full control of the Belgian Congo, the extraction of ivory and other resources could begin. The story of the plunder of the Congo is so brutal and unbelievable, and at times so hard to believe, that it was once said that "to tell the full story it would have to be fiction." In the early period of the Congo Free State, forced labor and resource extraction ultimately led to atrocities and destruction, but the terror was far from over. This episode is Part 3 in a series on the Belgian Congo. It gives an overview of Congo's rich natural resources, and the ivory boom in the late 1800's that contributed to atrocities. It discusses Leopold's style of rule and role in overseeing the carnage, the development of the ivory "trade" in the Congo, the beginnings of mass death, and the origins of early protest movements and dissent against the state, including from missionaries like George Washington Williams. Future episodes will discuss the rubber boom, it's related human rights meltdown, as well as resistance and protest movements that contributed to the end of the Congo Free State. -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! As European imperialism heated up in Africa in the late 1800's, King Leopold II of Belgium put into motion one of the most ambitious and villainous plans in all of European history - the theft of the entire Congo. Utilizing the work of explorer Henry Morton Stanley, European animus towards the Afro-Arab Slave Trade, the creation of dubious committees and associations, international lobbying of governments, public relations campaigns, and bogus treaties with the people of Congo, Leopold understood that "...we must be cautious, clever and quick to act. I would not expose myself to displeasing the English or letting escape a good opportunity to get some of this beautiful African cake." In 1885, the countries of Europe gave their blessing to Leopold's slice of cake at the Berlin Conference. This episode is Part 2 in a series on the Belgian Congo. It takes a look at how Leopold II of Belgium went from being a monarch of tiny Belgium to the owner of the biggest European colony in Africa. Upcoming episodes will discuss atrocities in the Congo, resistance and reform movements, and more. -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! Tom opens this week's livestream with an update on the upcoming New Biology Experience at Polyface Farm (June 2026)-Registration is still open, and space is limited. Tom will be joined by New Biology Clinic specialists and enrichment facilitators for a weekend of talks, food, music, and community. Join here. This session features two in-depth topics:1. How Money Actually Works-Tom reads and responds to recent articles from Mises.org, reflecting on the nature of fiat currency, the illusion of central banking, and the political consequences of how money is created.-He ties these ideas back to a section he wrote on money in Human Heart, Cosmic Heart (2016), describing a hypothetical system where one person creates all the money and inevitably owns everything—a parody of the current system. The 2 articles that Tom discussed is here.2. Does H. pylori Cause Stomach Ulcers?-Responding to a listener question, Tom critically analyzes the famous study by Barry Marshall that claimed to fulfill Koch's postulates.-He breaks down the methods used in Marshall's self-experiment.-Tom contrasts this with a 2025 Harvard article acknowledging that 80–90% of people with H. pylori never develop ulcers, challenging the idea that this bacterium is a singular causal agent.Q&A:Was Koch's postulate actually fulfilled for H. pylori and ulcers?Support the showWebsites:https://drtomcowan.com/https://www.drcowansgarden.com/https://newbiologyclinic.com/https://newbiologycurriculum.com/Instagram: @TalkinTurkeywithTomFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrTomCowan/Bitchute: https://www.bitchute.com/channel/CivTSuEjw6Qp/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzxdc2o0Q_XZIPwo07XCrNg

From 1885 to 1908, King Leopold II of Belgium owned the Congo as his own personal colony. What transpired there over the course of his reign has credibly been called "the vilest scramble for loot that ever disfigured the history of human conscience." Forced labor, slavery, disease, destruction, and destabliziation led to millions of deaths in one of the lesser known mass trauma events in human history. This is the story of the Congo Free State in Central Africa. This episode is Part 1 in a series on the Belgian Congo. It takes a look at the origins of humanity in Africa, the Congo as a geographic and human region, the Congo River, the development of agriculture, slavery, and society in the Congo before European arrival, the Indian Ocean Slave Trade vs. the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade, the arrival of the Portuguese in the Congo, the motivations for African Imperialism, the intensification of the slave trade as a result of European arrival, the resulting disruption and destabilization, and more. Future episodes will discuss Leopold's acquisition of the Congo as a colony, the resulting atrocities, resistance and reform movements, and the full story of the Congo Free State. -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! The Odyssey concludes with release, purification, and contradiction. A legendary bow and arrow contest sets the stage for Odysseus' rampage through the suitors who tormented his household for so long. The results of this explosion of violence and the conclusion of the story have been discussed and debated for millenia. This episode looks at books 21-24 of The Odyssey, analyzing themes of memory, purification, cycles of violence, animal instinct, fate and coincidence, and more. Homer's The Odyssey is one of the oldest and most enduring stories in all of civilization. Set in the aftermath of the legendary Trojan War, Odysseus, one of it's great heroes, has been lost at sea for decades. As he struggles to return home, the epic poem asks us important questions about history, memory, choice, kindness, leadership, violence, and much more. Even thousands of years later, The Odyssey still matters. -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! Welcome to Restoring the Soul with Michael John Cusick. On today's episode, Michael sits down with fellow intensive therapist Brian Boecker for an honest, heartfelt conversation about the universal human longing to belong. Inspired by Michael's recent talk at the Connections Conference in Washington, D.C., the discussion explores how belonging shapes our sense of self, impacts our relationships, and is deeply tied to spiritual themes found in scripture—especially in Jesus' teachings on prayer.Through personal stories, reflections on the Lord's Prayer, and insights from attachment theory, Michael and Brian unpack what it means to be at home with ourselves, others, and God. They wrestle with vulnerability, shame, and the courage it takes to truly let ourselves be seen. Drawing on poems, psychology, and biblical wisdom, this episode invites listeners to consider how authentic belonging not only leads to healing but also to genuine transformation.Support the showENGAGE THE RESTORING THE SOUL PODCAST:- Follow us on YouTube - Tweet us at @michaeljcusick and @PodcastRTS- Like us on Facebook- Follow us on Instagram & Twitter- Follow Michael on Twitter- Email us at info@restoringthesoul.com Thanks for listening!

Fr. Mike reads the Sermon on the Mount and explains how Jesus' teachings powerfully fulfill the old testament law, and identify the broken human heart as the source of our sinful actions. We learn that Jesus himself is the remedy to our sins, and that the secret to holiness is living in the perfect will of God. Today's readings are Matthew 5-7, and Proverbs 18:21-24.
