Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”What if your body was designed to tell a cosmic love story? In this profound exploration of human sexuality, Jack unveils how our creation as male and female reflects something far deeper than biology—it mirrors the very nature of God's Trinitarian love. The episode introduces the Claymore Battle Plan, a revolutionary framework helping men navigate today's confusing cultural landscape. Rather than offering superficial solutions, this approach digs into three fundamental realities: the human heart's deepest longings, the irreplaceable role of marriage and family, and our essential connection to Christ and the Church. These aren't arbitrary religious concepts but the very foundation of human flourishing.Drawing from Pope John Paul II's theology of the body, Jack explains how our physical design reveals profound spiritual truth. "The body, and it alone, is capable of making visible what is invisible—the spiritual and divine," he quotes. This understanding transforms everything about how we see ourselves and our relationships. When husband and wife unite and bring forth children, they participate in a "tiny created reflection of Trinitarian love"—where two become one and create a third. The breakdown we see in society—from inner-city violence to the emptiness of modern political leadership—stems directly from losing this foundational understanding. Without recognizing the sacramental nature of our bodies and relationships, we're left with a culture that uses people and loves things instead of the reverse.Join our growing community of men seeking something deeper than what modern culture offers. Download the Claymore Battle Plan at jp2renew.org, connect with others for discussion, and discover how becoming a person of love transforms not just your life, but rebuilds society from its foundations.Discussion Questions with Scripture and Catechism References· How does the creation of humanity as male and female reflect the Trinitarian love of God, and what does this reveal about the purpose of our bodies?Reference: Genesis 1:26–28; Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) 355–357: “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them… Being in the image of God, the human individual possesses the dignity of a person, who is not just something, but someone.”· Jesus points to “the beginning” to explain God's design for marriage (Matthew 19:3–8). O soul, if you desire to ascend the heights of holiness and be inflamed with the fire of divine love, begin with the sacred gift of repentance. For it is in the weeping of the heart that the veil is lifted, and the brightness of Christ's mercy is made known. Repentance is the golden key that unlocks the gates of grace; it softens the stony heart and renders it tender to the touch of the Crucified. As wax melts before the flame, so does the proud heart yield before the gaze of Jesus when it is bathed in contrition. In turning from sin, the soul turns toward Love Himself, and in that encounter, it is made radiant, transformed, and drawn ever deeper into the sweetness of the divine embrace. --- Help Spread the Good News --- Father Brian's homilies are shared freely thanks to generous listeners like you. What is Civilization? How did it develop and what are its goals? In his book “Civilization and Its Discontents,” Sigmund Freud looks at these questions from a psychoanalytic perspective. The conclusions he draws are as surprising and sometimes outrageous as they are insightful. This is part two in a series on Sigmund Freud's “Civilization and Its Discontents.” It takes a look at Freud's psychoanalytic understanding of how civilization began, how it developed over time, what the characteristics of civilization are, why it makes us unhappy, and why we live in a paradox. The conclusion of this series will be coming in a few weeks. -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! Let's be honest—Judges is one of those books in the Bible that makes you pause and say, “Wait… what?” The stories are full of deeply flawed people doing questionable things. But they also hold up a mirror to our own human condition. They reveal our drift, our compromise, our self-reliance. And they whisper a question that echoes throughout the Old Testament: Who will save us? In this episode, Whit George and Angela Ekstrum what the book of Judges shows us about the state of our hearts and the faithfulness of God. What is happiness? Why is it so hard to achieve? What is “civilization” and how did it develop? Legendary psychologist Sigmund Freud seeks to answer these questions in his book “Civilization and Its Discontents.” Freud traces the development of human culture all the way from the beginning, all from the psychoanalytic perspective. While modern psychology often keeps Freud at arm's length, there may be some important wisdom to learn from his application of psychoanalytic theories to human development. This is part one in a series on Sigmund Freud's “Civilization and Its Discontents.” It takes a look at Freud's famous analogy of the human mind to the city of Rome, discusses the problem of happiness and why so few are happy in the modern world, and also goes over some psychoanalytic theory and Freud's belief in the id, ego, and superego. -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! Hello to you listening in North Platte, Nebraska!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit mire) for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me you could use a bit of good news right about now. What if you could find the “best America there ever was?” Best-selling author and award-winning journalist Bob Greene found it in a small town, North Platte, Nebraska. As the story goes: During World War II, American soldiers from every city and walk of life rolled through North Platte, Nebraska, on troop trains en route to their ultimate destinations in Europe and the Pacific. What happened next?Prompted by one woman's idea this tiny town of 12,000 people transformed its modest railroad depot into the North Platte Canteen. Every day of the year, every day of the war years the Canteen - staffed and funded entirely by local volunteers - was open from five A.M. until the last troop train pulled away a little after midnight. In a time of coupons, shortages, and doing without that comes with war this community provided welcoming words, support, baskets of produce, fresh-baked goods, homemade sandwiches, magazines, books, bottles of milk, cauldrons of coffee, and treats to more than six millions GIs by the time the war ended four years later.Think about it. At a time of national adversity, crisis and deprivation because everything was going to the troops and the war effort, ordinary people pulled together to honor their country's brave sons by giving from the heart and their kitchens, their fields and dairies. Interviews with some of the volunteers and servicemen tell a love story of small-town generosity because it was something that they could do.Question: Yes, these times are perilous; but so was World War II. We might feel like we're fighting a war on our own soil for the first time since the Civil War. But we are not lost when we choose to summon the great expanse of hope that is the human heart. If 12,000 ordinary persons could care for six million GIs, what is in our power to do? Where is the next “best America there ever was?”Click to access book: Once Upon a Town - The Miracle of the North Platte Canteen by Bob GreeneYou're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" [00:30] Trump's Foreign-Policy Flaw: Total Trust in Human Nature (55 minutes) President Donald Trump's Middle East negotiations this week have a fatal flaw: The president and his administration make decisions based on total trust in the innate “goodness” of human nature. Inexperienced U.S. officials are reaching out to dictators, tyrants and terrorists in the misguided belief that they can make peace through negotiation. The Bible shows that trusting in man is a curse and will lead to destruction.

This podcast provides an overview of fascism as both an ideology and a political tactic. In what ways was Nazi Germany a typical fascist state? This episode is one small part of my larger podcast series called "Nazi Germany and the Battle for the Human Heart." How does something like the rise of Nazi Germany happen? Why? Who's responsible? What is fascism? What did it mean to be a Nazi? What role did the average person have in the development of the Nazi state? How responsible is the ordinary person in the development of great evil? How did nazism infect schools, institutions, and bureaucracy? Just how racist was the average person in Germany at the time? Why did the Holocaust happen? Who were the killers and why did they do it? Did anyone stand up to all of this evil? This series is an attempt to answer all of these questions in the specific context of Nazi Germany, and to show that as William Faulkner once said, "the only thing worth writing about is the human heart in conflict with itself." It's based on an audio course I made several years ago called "Nazi Germany and the Battle for the Human Heart," with some brand new added content, remastered audio, and a new introduction and conclusion. The fall of the Roman Republic is one of the great stories in all of ancient history and it can still teach lessons relevant to every element of modern life. This telling of the Roman Republic's demise blends systems-based history, trends and forces, events like the Punic Wars and Spartacus' slave rebellion, and the sheer will of legendary historical figures like the Gracchi brothers, Gaius Marius, Sulla, Julius Caesar, Cleopatra, Mark Antony, Octavian, and more. Shedding light on wealth inequality, political and economic corruption, population shifts, the impact of war-both overseas and at home, political violence, questions over citizenship, economic populism, zero-sum politics, violation of political and social norms, a loss of faith in democracy, and more-this historical story has something for everyone. -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! This is all eight chapters of my Aztec Memories series, all in one place. I'm hoping this makes it easier for some folks out there to listen to the whole series, and it will allow me to release a video version of this podcast--coming very soon! Thanks for listening and for all the support over the years... The story of the Aztec Empire is a story unlike any other. From it's origins as a nomadic underdog, to it's ascendance at the rich and powerful city of Tenochtitlan, to it's clash of civilizations with the mighty Spanish Empire, this is a historical story that will never happen again. If you think you know the full story, think again. For hundreds of years myths and half-truths about the Spanish conquest have clouded the historical narrative. Even the name "Aztec" belies the deep connection between myth and history. Five hundred years later, it's time to delve into Aztec Memories. -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! The Columbian Exchange remains maybe the most significant historical development in modern history-setting the stage for the world we inhabit today. In modern day Mexico, the post-conquest colonial period led to the beginnings of many processes that would define Mexico and the Americas for years to come-the encomienda system, the racial casta system, class struggle in Mexico, tension between Spanish and indigenous, and the sparks of future Revolution. With the benefit of hindsight and counterfactuals, it's worth asking if the Columbian Exchange was the best or worst outcome we could have gotten? This is the final part in a series on the rise, fall, and enduring legacy of the Aztec Empire. Ecclesiastes 1:1-11 ESV The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity. What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun? A generation goes, and a generation comes, but the earth remains forever. The sun rises, and the sun goes down, and hastens to the place where it rises. The wind blows to the south and goes around to the north; around and around goes the wind, and on its circuits the wind returns. All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, there they flow again. All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. Is there a thing of which it is said, “See, this is new”? It has been already in the ages before us. There is no remembrance of former things, nor will there be any remembrance of later things yet to be among those who come after.
For many fans of history, the story of the Aztec empire ends with the Spanish conquest and the fall of Tenochtitan. But there was a post-conquest period, lasting for hundreds of years, in which the Spanish exerted authority and control over the people of the former Aztec Empire. The Mexica people had to make difficult decisions about conversion to Christianity, how much tribute to pay to the Spanish, how to incorporate the new rule of the Spanish into their lives, and how to deal with violence and terror. For some who thought life under the Spanish would be an improvement over Aztec rule, they may have been sorely disappointed. This is Part VII in a series on the rise, fall, and enduring legacy of the Aztec Empire. In this episode I discuss life under the Spanish in the post conqust period for the Mexica people, new tribute systems, violence and terror as tools of Spanish authority, Cortes' and Malintzin's expedition to Central America, conversion to Christianity and the difficulties both sides faced with this, and more. This is the second to last episode of the series. -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! February is American Heart Month, and in light of that, we're bringing back an episode about a group here at Stanford Engineering that's developing 3D printing methods for human tissues and organs, a process known as bioprinting. Motivated in part by the critical need for heart transplants, Mark Skylar-Scott and his team are specifically working to bioprint tissues of the human heart. It may sound like science fiction, but it's actually just another example of the groundbreaking research we do here. We hope you'll take another listen and be inspired by the possibilities.Have a question for Russ? Send it our way in writing or via voice memo, and it might be featured on an upcoming episode. We have been enjoying a “real” New England winter this season, which has kept us hunkered down and reading on our respective couches. The books in our Just Read segment are: A New Home, Who Will Follow? by Caroline Kirkland The Grey Wolf by Louise Penny Fortune Favors the Dead by Stephen Spottswood How We Learn to Be Brave: Decisive Moments in Life and Faith by Mariann Edgar Budde My Life in France by Julia Child and Alex Prud'homme Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave by Elle Cosimano (release date 3/4/25) The Vanishing Kind by Alice Henderson (release date 3/4/25) I'll Be Right Here by Amy Bloom (release date 6/24/25) In short stories, we discuss “The Old Nurse's Story” by Elizabeth Gaskell, the first story in The Penguin Book of Ghost Stories: From Elizabeth Gaskell to Ambrose Bierce, which we will be reading throughout 2025 for our year of reading Ghost Stories. Chris also read the ghost story The Inn by Guy De Maupassant. We did get out and about for a Biblio Adventure to the New York Society Library to see a reading of Lord Byron's Manfred by The New Relic Theatre. While there we also watched a virtual event via the Yale Program for the Study of Antisemitism featuring Ruth Franklin in conversation about her new book The Many Lives of Anne Frank. And we had two couch biblio adventures. Emily watched the film The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse based on the book by Charlie Mackesy, and Chris participated in the Women's Prize Book Club with Sarah Waters in conversation with Simon Savidge about her novel Fingersmith. Of course, we also talk about what we're currently reading, hope to read, upcoming jaunts, Simon & Schuster's news about book blurbs, and more. The Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire provides a great opportunity to think about many complex historical questions. How should we think about topics of colonialism and conquest from a modern lens? How are morality and historical narrative closely tied together? How did Spanish people and Mexica people think about the conquest both at the time and deep into the future? The answers to these questions give insight into how morality and psychology are at the center of many historical stories. This is Part VI in a series on the rise, fall, and enduring legacy of the Aztec Empire. In this episode I discuss colonialist narratives of history, the "civilizing mission" and how morality was at the center of the Spanish conquest, the Quetzocoatl narrative of the Spanish conquest, Jared Diamond's Guns Germs and Steel hypothesis, and how both sides of this conflict felt cognitive dissonance at the time and in their later tellings of their histories. -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! Send us a textThis week on The Less Stressed Life Podcast, I'm diving into a fascinating and eye-opening conversation with Dr. Tom Cowan about structured water—a topic that challenges everything we thought we knew about hydration, biology, and even health itself.Dr. Cowan, a disruptor in the health space and author of Cancer and the New Biology of Water, joins me to explain why not all water is created equal and how structured water plays a crucial role in our cells, energy, and even disease prevention. We also explore how hydration is about quality, not just quantity, and why electromagnetic fields (EMFs), stress, and toxins may be impacting our body's ability to stay optimally hydrated.KEY TAKEAWAYS:What is structured water? In November of 1519, Aztec Emperor Moctezuma and Spanish Conquistador Hernando Cortez met on the causeway leading to Tenochtitlan in maybe the first official contact between powerful leaders of the Old and New Worlds. One of the great what if moments in world history, this was the opening act in what would eventually lead to a clash of civilizations between the two peoples. The war that followed was violent and brutal, and the stakes were everything. This is Part V in a series on the rise, fall, and enduring legacy of the Aztec Empire. It covers the war between the Aztec and the Spanish, the initial meeting on the causeway, tactics and strategy for each side, La Noche Triste or The Night of Sorrows, various massacres, and the end of the war. -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! While the Aztec Empire peaked in central Mexico, a different empire was spreading it's tenticles across the Atlantic Ocean. The Spanish were in the early phases of setting up a global superpower powered by colonialism. In early 1519, the Spanish arrived in force on the shores of the Yucatan Peninsula. After crushing the Chontal Maya city states, Hernando Cortez and his Spanish conquistadors set their sights on the Aztec Empire. But would the ensuing conquest have been possible without Malintzin? Her real name forever lost to history, a nameless slave girl possessed a weapon that would change the course of history forever. This is Part IV in a series on the rise, fall, and enduring legacy of the Aztec Empire. It discusses the arrival of the Spanish and their interactions with the Chontal Maya, some background on Hernando Cortez and the Spanish politics in the Carribean, the role of Malintzin (or Malinche or Dona Marina or Malintze) in the conquest, the Spanish war with the Tlaxacalans, and beginnings of the war with the Aztec Empire. -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! As we enter a season of greater darkness and less light (for those of us in the Northern hemisphere), it is imperative to spend more time within, connect to your heart, inner pilot light, and the all loving Divine Mind. This week's episode is with Lars Muhl, spiritual teacher and author of The God Formula and The Sacred Numbers of Initiation, and Naleea Landmann, healer and author of The Love That You Are. It's all about how to experience divine communion and disappear fear and misconceptions about yourself that are untrue. More about my guests: Lars Muhl is an author, musician, therapist and inspirational speaker who since childhood has been connected to spirituality. In his own words: “Very early I had some powerful out-of-body experiences and glimpses into etheric realms which showed me that there is more to life than most people are aware of.” He studied the Aramaic language, esoteric Christianity and the mystery traditions of the Essenes and the Therapeutae for many years, but it wasn't before he started to work with the seer and healer Calle de Montségur, he realized that studying and reading only make up half of what is needed in order to realize our full potential. Only through genuine spiritual practice and experiences will we be able to fully understand that we are already Enlightened Beings. He has worked together with Naleea Landmann since 2017. She started as a translator of his German workshops. Later she edited, translated and contributed to his books The God Formula, The Light within a Human Heart, and The Sacred Numbers of Initiation. They co-write texts about the work and she filmed and produced many of the recent videos. Today they are doing talks, concerts and workshops together under the umbrella of Sacred Seed. Naleea Landmann is a therapist, musician, author, actor and inspirational speaker. Since early childhood, Naleea had a strong yearning to connect with the Divine and understand the realities of this world and the universe. Her out-of-body experiences lead her to question “reality” already as a young child – her personal experiences as well as our path as humanity. Finding a way to express what she perceived and felt, she first started to use acting as a tool to communicate and reach people, as well as an opportunity to understand the ways of our personality structures. Her vision is to live within a world of heart-centered beings, who listen to their own guidance and share themselves and their gifts in joy, true connection and Divine communion. Her first book, The Love That You Are – Psalm 119 Meditations, is a guide and companion to enter into the I AM Presence through prayer. The paraphrased Psalm can be found as well in the book The Sacred Numbers of Initiation by Lars Muhl. The prayer recited in this episode: Psalm 119:89-96 "Heavenly Source of All Being, I am Light, born within the Light. 89 Your word and wisdom are eternal; their echo fills the spheres of all Heavens. 90 I AM the faith passed on by the Mighty Ones; the ancient glory of the Earth rejoices in all her splendor. 91 Now and forever, Your Light fills all existence, and all things radiate Your Presence. 92 I AM the delight in Your wisdom, it comforts and strengthens me at all times. 93 I AM the remembering of Your love; it is the sacred breath of my life. 94 Your Presence is my belonging and my safety; I AM the enfolding of Your guidance. 95 If I face wickedness or destruction, I open Your shield of peace. 96 I raise my senses into Your vibration; I AM the merging with Your boundless Light.” About Your Host, Julie Reisler Join Julie Reisler weekly, podcast host, intuitive coach, author, and multi-time TEDx speaker, each week to learn how to access your spiritual gifts and inner guidance to be your You-est You® and achieve greater inner peace, spiritual connection, happiness, and abundance. In this week's episode, we continue our three part series on Pope Francis' recent encyclical Dilexit Nos. We reflect on our ache to be loved, how Jesus heals in close proximity to us, and the “science of the caress”. We also talk about how Jesus is a man who comes and finds us wherever we are and longs to open up a new place for us in relationship with Him. Will we allow our hearts to beat again with love? How have I encountered Jesus as the Lover? How do I project my scars onto Jesus? Who in my community or in the Church is hardest for me to love right now? How can I love them better? Where do I have a belief that Jesus is indifferent to me? Discussion Questions: How have you experienced the ache to be cherished? How can you bring communion where there is polarity and discord? What happens in you when you consider the Sacred Heart of Jesus? When have you blindly trusted in Jesus and His Love and Providence for you? How did He prove Himself trustworthy? Quotes to Ponder: “The heart of Christ, as the symbol of the deepest and most personal source of his love for us, is the very core of the initial preaching of the Gospel. It stands at the origin of our faith, as the wellspring that refreshes and enlivens our Christian beliefs.” (Pope Francis, “Dilexit Nos”, Paragraph 32) Scripture for Lectio: “Take heart, daughter!” (Matthew 9:22) Sponsor - Florecita Design: Florecita Design wants to help you build your domestic church. Fr. Mike reads the Sermon on the Mount and explains how Jesus' teachings powerfully fulfill the old testament law, and identify the broken human heart as the source of our sinful actions. We learn that Jesus himself is the remedy to our sins, and that the secret to holiness is living in the perfect will of God. Today's readings are Matthew 5-7, and Proverbs 18:21-24. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Please note: The Bible contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
Sermon on the Mount E33 – The final teaching in the main body of the Sermon on the Mount is commonly known as the Golden Rule: do to others what you would have them do to you. Jesus says that all of the Law and Prophets—everything he has come to fulfill—are contained in this one statement. How? In this episode, Tim and Jon unpack what many consider Jesus' most famous teaching. Join us as we examine how the Golden Rule fits into the intentional design of the Sermon on the Mount, reinforcing the central theme of how God's desires reshape our own.
