Hey everybody, welcome back to MOVIE Morning where, today, I'll be reviewing The Amateur. This is the latest studio action thriller, but this time from 20th Century Studios, starring Academy Award Winner Rami Malek. It has a pretty stacked cast that also includes Laurence Fishburne, Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane!), Caitriona Balfe, Holt McCallany and Jon Bernthal, the Punisher himself. I only heard of this film about a month back and immediately put it on my watchlist. I love mid-budget action thrillers like this, and I like them the best when they're about the unlikely action heroes and not the invincible John Wick's of the world. Although, of course, who doesn't love John Wick? I also liked that it looked to have more of a serious edge than these films typically have nowadays. So, what did I think of The Amateur? The film marks a nearly 15-year gap since the last Tron entry.Colossal Biosciences has gene-edited a modern wolf species to re-create a new version of the extinct species used in fantasy lore such as Game of thrones, Dire Wolves. They are returning to the world after being extinct for more than 12,000 years. The first two new dire wolves, Romulus and Remus, were born in October. Sony has announced a movie adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn in collaboration with PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures, the studio behind 2022's Uncharted. While no release date has been set, the film will bring Guerrilla Games' post-apocalyptic adventure starring machine hunter Aloy to the big screen. Jacob Elordi is in early negotiations to replace Paul Mescal in Ridley Scott's The Dog Stars. Mark L. Smith and Christopher Wilkinson wrote the script for the 20th Century Studios film, which adapts Peter Heller's 2012 apocalyptic novel of the same name. Disney+ has greenlit a pilot for a TV series adaptation of Louis Sachar's beloved novel "Holes." The project follows in the footsteps of Disney's 2003 film version of the book, though no further details about the potential series have been revealed yet.

It serves as a prequel to previous films, being set in the Northern Great Plains in 1719. The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and written by Patrick Aison. It stars Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Dane DiLiegro, Michelle Thrush, Stormee Kipp, Julian Black Antelope, and Bennett Taylor. The story revolves around a young Comanche woman, Naru, who is striving to prove herself as a hunter. She finds herself having to protect her people from a vicious, humanoid alien that hunts humans for sport, as well as from French fur traders who are destroying the buffalo they rely on for survival. Development of the film began during the production of The Predator (2018), when producer John Davis was approached by Trachtenberg and Aison, with a concept that they had been developing since 2016. In late 2020, the film's title was revealed to be the codename for the fifth installment in the franchise. Filming took place around Calgary during the summer of 2021, with most of the film being filmed in English, with some sequences being shot in Comanche and French as well. A full Comanche language dub was provided for the film, with the cast reprising their roles, thus making it the first feature film to do so. Prey premiered at San Diego Comic-Con on July 21, 2022, and was released by 20th Century Studios as a Hulu original film in the United States and on Disney+ and Star internationally on August 5. The film received positive reviews from critics. In 1719 in the Great Plains, Naru, a young Comanche woman trained as a healer, dreams of becoming a great hunter like her brother Taabe. While tracking deer she witnesses strange lights in the sky, which she believes to be a Thunderbird and a sign she is ready to become a hunter, but is actually the dropship for an alien hunter. Later Puhi, a warrior of the tribe, is taken by a cougar. Naru accompanies the search party, which tracks and finds Puhi near death. She tends Puhi's wounds and gives him an herb called orange totsiyaa, which lowers his body temperature to slow his bleeding. Naru returns with the search party and Puhi while Taabe stays behind to hunt the cougar. Finding large, unusual tracks and a skinned rattlesnake, Naru circles back with Paake and reunites with Taabe. Last week, mere minutes after our Tuesday evening recording session, we were both delighted and disheartened when Marvel Studios dropped its “Look Ahead | Disney Plus'' trailer, which not only provided release dates, but showcased our first official look at footage, for a whopping 8 streaming projects. Here's what we learned: Box office juggernaut Deadpool & Wolverine will be available to stream on the platform beginning November 12, 2024. We already knew Daredevil: Born Again is set to begin streaming March 4, 2025, but the trailer, which was intercut with footage from the other shows, gave us our first look at the villain Muse, the return of Jon Bernthal's Punisher, as well as Bullseye, and perhaps most surprisingly the inclusion of Ms. Marvel's dad, Yusuf Khan What If Season 3 will begin streaming this December 22nd, with no word as to whether that will be a weekly or daily release, like last year. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will begin airing January 29th, 2025 Riri William's Ironheart makes her return beginning June 24th, 2025 Eyes of Wakanda, the animated anthology series is set for an August 6th, 2025 debut Marvel Zombies will premiere sometime in October 2025, with the live action Wonder Man series starring Yahya Abdul Mateen II arriving later that December. In a final marketing push ahead of its December 3 premiere, Lucasfilm released final art, a poster, and a new trailer for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. The series, which is helmed by Spider-Man filmmaker Jon Watts, is an Amblin Entertainment-inspired coming of age tale that follows four youths who embark on a swashbuckling adventure with unexpected revelations. The trailer is in keeping with what we've seen from the series thus far, which is to say it feels tonally divergent from anything we've seen in Star Wars before, including new species, planets, and a synth-pop heavy score. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros is gearing up to bring the world of George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones to the silver screen with at least one film in early development. And that's pretty much all we know – there's no creative talent attached yet, meaning no writer or director, much less any word regarding a potential time, setting, or characters that might be involved. Amazon MGM Studios is testing actors for the role of Lara Croft in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's upcoming Tomb Raider series. Sophie Turner and Lucy Boynton top Amazon's wish list, according to Deadline. Scary Movie creators Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans are reuniting after 18 years to develop a new film in the franchise for Paramount and Miramax. Kelly Macdonald, known for Boardwalk Empire and No Country for Old Men, has joined the cast of DC Studios' Lanterns. Amazon MGM Studios is developing a Jack Ryan film, continuing the series storyline with John Krasinski, Wendell Pierce, and Michael Kelly. Andrew Bernstein will direct. Early box office projections show Wicked opening at over $80 million domestically and Gladiator 2 at $65 million, both debuting on November 22. Episode 41 - SPOILER Review: Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)The merc with a mouth is back! Putting Deadpool and Wolverine in the same movie has delivered the global summer box office hit we were hoping for (only topped this year by Inside Out 2, another Disney blockbuster). After Marvel's post-Endgame slump with a few lackluster movies, Director Shawn Levy, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman have flipped the genre on its head with this very meta and VERY violent (it's a Deadpool movie, after all) thrill ride.Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds previously worked together on Free Guy (2021) and The Adam Project (2022), while Levy and Jackman teamed up back in Real Steel (2011). But this film marks the first time Deadpool and Wolverine are officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios) in December 2017.Stay for the humor (though it can feel a bit repetitive at times and might be an acquired taste), the 20th Century Fox comic movie era nostalgia, and the AWESOME cameos—you won't be disappointed. IMPORTANT HEADS UP: If you haven't seen the previous Deadpool movies or aren't familiar with the MCU, especially the 20th Century Fox era of comic book movies (specifically the X-Men franchise), a lot of this might go over your head. It's still enjoyable, but you'll miss out on the moments where the hardcore fans (ME) are cheering at the many references scattered throughout the film. Also yes do stay for the credits and post-credits. Both are great.This blockbuster has already crossed the $1 billion mark at the box office and is yet another success story for Disney, Levy, Reynolds, and Jackman. Robert Winfree, Mark Radulich, Dorian Price and Mac Kettner present their Alien Romulus 2024 Movie Review!Alien: Romulus is a 2024 American science fiction horror film directed by Fede Álvarez, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues. Produced by Scott Free Productions and Brandywine Productions, it is the seventh installment in the Alien franchise, set between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). The film stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu in her film debut. It follows a group of downtrodden young space colonists in pursuit of better life conditions, who encounter hostile creatures while scavenging a derelict space station.At CinemaCon in April 2019, 20th Century Fox announced their plans to produce future Alien films. Welcome to this special Comic-Con edition of Talking Apes!    This is the panel held on July 25 titled, ‘Unveiling the VFX magic: 20th Century Studios' Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”   SUMMARY: Delve into the technical and human elements that created the visual effects masterpiece – Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes – with some of the best VFX talent in the business! Join lead cast members Freya Allen, Kevin Durand, Owen Teague, and Peter Macon alongside visualization supervisor Casey Pyke, Wētā FX visual effects supervisor Erik Winquist and one of the film's editors, Dan Zimmerman, as they unveil the VFX magic behind the majestic beasts and battles in bringing director Wes Ball's vision to life.   This is the full audio recording. For those listeners with sensitive ears, a fight between a fan and the CC security broke out at about the halfway point, and there were a few curse words. The panel host quickly got things back on track and we were on our way.     I got the chance to represent Talking Apes with a question during the Q&A. They asked to keep the questions short but that wasn't going to happen since I wanted my question about easter eggs to be answered by all the panelists.    I've been to the mountain and came back with even more content. Chelsea Devantez is a writer and comedian who has a good time being outrageous. She grew up in a family that moved around a lot when she was a kid. They never had much money. She was a victim of domestic violence.  Chelsea had always wanted to be an artist. And her dream came true when she was hired to perform as part of the improv team at Second City in Chicago. Chelsea got her next dream job when Jon Stewart hired her to be the head writer of his streaming series The Problem with Jon Stewart. Now, she produces original comedy projects at 20th Century Studios and she's written a memoir called I Shouldn't Be Telling You This. We talk about all the things she shouldn't be telling us. “Now What?” is produced with the help of Steve Zimmer, Lucy Little and Jackie Schwartz. Audio production is by Nick Ciavatta.

"The Bikeriders" had its world premiere at the 2023 Telluride Film Festival, where it was initially supposed to be released in theaters by 20th Century Studios. A few months later, the distribution was passed over to Focus Features, and now, almost a full year later and eight years since the release of his last feature film, we finally have a new movie from writer/director Jeff Nichols. One of the most accomplished and beloved storytellers working today, Nichols always manages to find the humanity in his characters as he plunges them into depths of moral complexity set against the backdrop of rural areas and here does so yet again with his biggest budget and cast to date. Bon Voyage, Yann Demange Marvel's Mahershala Ali-led Blade has suffered yet another setback as Director Yann Demange has exited the project, marking him the second director to exit Blade. The split is reportedly amicable and occurred some time ago, with Marvel veteran Eric Pearson currently working on the screenplay. Despite this loss, Mahershala Ali remains attached, and the film is still scheduled for release on November 7, 2025. Pix-ar It Didn't Happen Inside Out 2's $155 million debut this Father's Day weekend handedly surpassed projections and injected some much-needed adrenaline into the summer box office. The animated sequel's impressive opening haul was enough to supplant Dune: Part 2 as 2024's highest opening, as well as earning a spot as the second highest domestic opening for an animated film, behind 2018's Incredibles 2, another sequel to a beloved Pixar original. Don't Rock The Steamboat According to a Variety exclusive, Dwayne Johnson's Seven Buck Productions has signed a multi-year, first look deal with The Walt Disney Company to develop theatrical and streaming films. While specific details are not currently available, it is known that the collaboration is not limited to film content and would also give Seven Bucks the opportunity to work across all of Disney's divisions. Don't July to Us, Deadpool! Box office tracking reports are projecting a $200 to $239 million opening for Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine later this July. The reports, made public via Deadline, were provided by the box office monitoring service, The Quorum, who went as far as to say those estimates are on the more conservative end. The first Deadpool still holds the record for the highest opening for an R-rated film at $132.4 million in February of 2016. Lightning Round: Catherine Laga‘aia, a 17-year-old actor from Sydney, Australia, has been cast as Moana in the live-action remake of the 2016 animated hit. She joins Dwayne Johnson, who reprises his role as demigod Maui. Parker Finn, director of 2022's Smile, is teaming with Robert Pattinson to remake the 1981 psychological supernatural horror cult classic, Possession. Studios are currently bidding for the project. Sony Pictures Entertainment has acquired Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in a deal that puts a major Hollywood studio back in the business of owning a movie theater for the first time in more than 75 years. Euphoria actress Hunter Schafer has been cast in a lead role in Prime Video's Blade Runner 2099. She will star alongside Michelle Yeoh. HBO has officially renewed Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon for a third season. Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are developing an animated series based on Blue Beetle, which would act as a follow up to the 2023 feature film. Franchise scribe Derek Connolly has been hired to write Paramount's G.I. Joe/Transformers crossover that Chris Hemsworth recently became attached to. Miles Teller is set to star in Paramount's An Officer and a Gentleman, a modern update to the 1982 film that starred Richard Gere. Warner Brothers has confirmed that Adult Swim animated series My Adventures With Superman, currently in its second season, has been renewed for season 3. Warner Brothers has ordered the animated series Get Jiro! for Adult Swim based on the best-selling DC/Vertigo graphic novels co-written by the late Anthony Bourdain. Terry Matalas, has been tapped to write an update of the 1985 cult sci-fi movie Enemy Mine for 20th Century Studios. A live-action TV series based on the cult classic French cartoon Totally Spies! is in development at Amazon with Will Ferrell as executive producer. Emily Blunt is in talks to star in Steven Spielberg's next film. Jordan Peele's next filmhas been pushed from its original Dec 25, 2024 release date to October 23, 2026. Amazon MGM Studios has given a pilot order to The Nightbeast, a horror comedy starring Tatiana Maslany. Sony Pictures has confirmed a sequel to 2022's Uncharted is in development
