In this heart-stirring and theologically rich episode, Mike Neglia is joined by theologian, pastor, and author Dr. Sam Storms to discuss his latest book, The Steadfast Love of the Lord: Experiencing the Life-Changing Power of God's Unchanging Affection. Together, they explore the transformative power of divine love, the misconceptions both the world and the church often hold about it, and how pastors can faithfully and fruitfully preach the love of God in ways that stir both head and heart.Storms shares how the love of God has moved from a general theological category to a deeply personal experience in his life, and what it means to feel the love of God—not just affirm it intellectually. They also wrestle with provocative questions about worship lyrics like “Reckless Love,” whether God loves people like Hitler, and how to shepherd a church with a biblically rooted understanding of God's affection.Dr. Storms brings pastoral warmth, theological depth, and personal honesty to this conversation, offering timely wisdom for pastors, teachers, and all who want to better understand the God who sings over His people.

God Is For You, Not Against You!Psalm 139:5 “You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.”I heard this verse at the prayer group yesterday, and I instantly liked it. It made me think of when I was little, and my dad would tuck me into bed at night. He would make the covers all tight around me so I felt safe and warm. It was such a cozy feeling, and all those feelings came flooding back when I heard this verse yesterday. God is our heavenly Father. He is always there for us in a way that our real fathers might not have been. I am lucky enough to have had a great father growing up. And I am lucky enough to have him still around to be a part of my life. However, even if you didn't have a great father growing up or in your life right now, you have a heavenly Father who is amazing.I know sometimes it can be hard to believe that our heavenly Father is amazing, especially if we didn't have a great earthly father. It can be hard when we look at the Old Testament and see all the things God did to see God as a caring and loving Father. I know my kids always get stuck in the book of Noah with God flooding the whole world. There were times when God's judgment required him to do some things that I am sure He didn't want to do. It is hard, at least for me, to reconcile that God with the God of the New Testament. The God who sent His only Son to save the sinful world. The God who would have sent His son even if it was only to save one person. When I talk with people about how they picture God, often it is not as a loving Father. They see Jesus as loving and kind and pretty easy to talk to. However, they see God as the disciplinarian. They see Him as an older man who is sitting up in heaven on his thrown, feeling pretty high and mighty and looking down on us and waiting for us to screw up, so He can say, I told you so! It breaks my heart to hear that because I know how much God loves us. I know how much He wants us to succeed. He is not waiting for us to mess up. He is routing for us to be wildly successful. He is up there cheering us on. When we do mess up, He is there to help us through it. His heart breaks when our heart breaks.God is rooting for you. He wants you to win. He wants you to be successful. He wants you to be able to spend eternity with Him. I think this is something many of us have trouble believing because I have heard many songs lately that have the words, “He is for you, not against you.” I don't think it would be in so many songs if people didn't have a hard time believing it. Songs usually speak to common areas of struggle. I promise you God is rooting for you. He wouldn't have sent his song to die a horrible, painful death just so He could sit up in heaven and judge you, waiting for you to mess up so He can say, “I told you so.”There are many songs that I love that show us how much God loves us. One of my favorite's is Cory Asbury's Reckless Love. If you don't know that song, I highly recommend you look it up. You can even google the version with his testimony in it. He explains the Bible verse for that song and why he wrote that song. It is so beautiful. However, the song I feel the Lord wants me to share with you today is another favorite called Drops in the Ocean by Hawk Nelson. It is the song that came to mind when I wrote that God is for you, not against you. Here are the words to that song.I want you as you are, not as you ought to be. Won't you lay down your guard and come to Me? The shame that grips you now is crippling. It breaks My heart to see you suffering.God does not need us to wait until we are perfect to come to Him. He is not waiting for us to be someone else, some better version of ourselves. He wants us just as we are. I love how it is asking us to lay down our guard and come to Him. How many of us struggle with that? We have our guard up, and maybe it is for a really good reason. Maybe we have been hurt a lot in this world by people who should have loved and protected us. God knows why we have our guard up, and yet, with Him, we don't need it. He is asking us to let down our guard and just come to Him as we are. He can see the shame that has a hold on us and it breaks His heart to see us suffering so much. It breaks His heart to see us holding onto shame when He could take it all away if we just let Him.The song goes on to say: Cause I am for you. I'm not against you. Why do we think God is against us? Why do we think He is hoping we fail? Where did this idea come from? If we look at the Bible as a whole, there is far more in there about God being a loving God who saves his people than there is about God rooting for His people to fail. Even when it comes to Sodom and Gomorrah, He was willing to save them if even ten of them were righteous, and yet none were to be found. God does not want even one of His children to perish. He is not wanting us to fail. He is for us, not against us. He is for you, not against you! Don't believe the lies of the enemy. God is for you!!My very favorite part of this song is:If you wanna know how far My love can go, just how deep, just how wide. If you wanna see how much you mean to Me. Look at My hands, look at My side. If you could count the times, I'd say you are forgiven; it's more than the drops in the ocean. This part took my breath away the first time I really heard it. If you want to know how far my love can go, just how deep, just how wide. If you want to see how much you mean to me, look at my hands, look at my side. Man, it really hit me. God sent Jesus to save me. If I was the only one on earth, He would have still sent Jesus. Look at his hands; He has the wounds of the cross. Looks at His side, where they pierced him with a spear. He did that for me. Does that not help you to see how much God loves you?I also love that it says, If you could count the times I'd say you are forgiven, it's more than the drops in the ocean. Could we even count the drops in the ocean? We think God is up in heaven waiting to catch us doing something wrong, and yet this song is saying that he is up there forgiving us every time we do something wrong. He has forgiven us more times than we can even count. How amazing is that? The song also says, “Don't think you need to settle for a substitute. When I'm the only love that changes you.” Did you know that God's love could change you if you let it? The love that we get from others here on earth does not change us. God's love is the only love that changes us. When we realize how much we are loved by God. When we realize He is for us and not against us, our whole world can change. We will have a confidence that those around us can't understand. It is a confidence in who we are because of who God created us to be. It is a confidence that no matter what we have done or will do, God will always love us. He is always rooting for us and wanting us to succeed.God is always around us. If we look back to today's verse, it says, “You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.” God goes before us and behind us. He lays His hand on us and guides us. We can count on Him to always be there. We can count on Him to show us the path he wants us to take.  He hems us in, behind, and in front. He is there, creating a barrier of protection around us. He is for us, not against us.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless each of us listening to this episode today. Lord, we love you, and we thank you for always being there for us. We thank you for being for us and not against us. We thank you for forgiving us so often. We thank you for wanting us as we are, not as we ought to be. You are amazing. We ask you to help give us a renewal of the mind when it comes to how we see you. We ask that you help conform our minds to who you really are instead of who we might think you are. We love you, Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. I look forward to meeting you here again tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you, and so do I! “I Have Loved You With An Everlasting Love”Jeremiah 31:3 “ the Lord appeared to him from far away.  I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.”God loves us with an everlasting love.  Did you know that?  Did you know that there is nothing you can do to lose God's love?  Sometimes I know that we feel unlovable.  Sometimes that's after we have done something that we feel is wrong and sometimes that's after someone else has done or said something to us.  However, God never stops loving us.  He loved us before we were even born and His love is everlasting, it never goes away.  I remember hearing a story once, I think it might have been Jeff Cavins, in the Great Adventure Bible Story, but I am not sure.  Anyway, whoever was telling the story was talking about how God does not need anything from us.  This was vastly different from the other Gods at the time.  The other Gods got more power the more people worshipped them.  They were almost fighting for people to worship them.  Some of them even required human child sacrifices.  However, our God was completely self sufficient and did not need anything from us.  I remember the person saying that this is the reason that some people turned from those other God's to our God, the one true God.  They turned to God because of His everlasting love.  They turned to God because He loved them just for who they were.  They did not need to do anything to earn that love.  That love was just there.  This was something they had not experienced before.  The next line in the verse is also an important line.  “Therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.”  This is important because God is always faithful to His word.  This is something we talked a lot about last week but I think it is important to touch on it again as it is amazing.  I think sometimes we may think that God stops loving us when we sin in some way.  Or that he stops answering our prayers when we have sinned against Him.  However, this verse dispels that belief.  God continues His faithfulness to us, even when we mess up.  Look how many times He was faithful to the Israelites after they messed up.  In Matthew 18:21-22 it says, “Then Peter came and said to him, “Lord, if another member of the church sins against me, how often should I forgive? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times.”  If Jesus is telling us to forgive seventy-seven time, then how much more will our father in heaven forgive us?There is a song called “Reckless Love” by Cory Asbury.  It is a great song about how amazing God's love is.  The song first talks about how good God has been to him.  The chorus says, Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.  Oh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the 99.  And I couldn't earn it, I don't deserve it, still You give yourself away”  When he mentions leaves the 99 is talking about Matthew 18:12-14 when Jesus tells the parable, “What do you think? If a shepherd has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.”  God does not want to lose any of his sheep.  He will not stop looking for us when we are lost.  He will not stop loving us and hoping that we turn back to Him.  Then the song goes on to say, “When I was Your foe, still Your love fought for me.  You have been so, so good to me.  When I felt no worth, You paid it all for me.  You have been so, so kind to me”  This is so true, when we have sinned and pulled away from God, or fractured our relationship with Him, He is still fighting for us and still loving us.  When we don't feel worthy, God is still there doing all He can for us.  This last part of the song is my favorite and it is a part I think we all need to hear because it the truth.  “There's no shadow You won't light up, mountain You won't climb up, coming after me.  There's no wall You won't kick down, lie You won't tear down, coming after me.”  There is nothing that God won't do to chase after His children to try and save them.  He gave His only son on the cross for us.  There is nothing hidden in the darkness that will prevent him from finding you.  There's no wall He won't kick down and lie He won't tear down.  I think I like that part the best because when I think of it I think of a father searching everywhere for his child.  Have you even seen the movie “Taken” with Liam Neeson?  In the movie Liam Neeson is a father who's daughter goes to Europe on vacation with a friend.  However, in the movie his daughter is taken by sex traffickers.  She calls her dad when she sees someone breaking into the house.  Liam is some type of government spy in the movie and he stops at nothing to get his daughter back.  He does whatever it takes to find her and get her back.  If a mere human will go through all of that to get his daughter back, how much more do you think your Father in heaven will do to get you back?  I know people who have often wondered if they are worth loving.  When I tell them the things I am telling you, they say that they know God feels that way about other people, but they tell me I don't understand what they have done, or where they have been.  If you are listening to this and you think that this is true for some people, but that it is not true for you, I want you to hear me.  GOD LOVES YOU!!  He loves you right where you are at.  You don't have to change in anyway for Him to love you.  He loves your perfectly right now, right where you are at.  Also, God's love is everlasting.  It never fades.  It is always there no matter what we do or what happens to us.  Also, God remains faithful to us.  He keeps His promises.  If we are lost He will come and chase after us and find us.   He will be there for us whenever we decide to turn back to Him.  He will welcome us home with open arms and he will say to us, “I have loved you with an everlasting love.”Dear heavenly father, I ask that you bless all those listening to this episode today. We thank you for loving us with an everlasting love, with a reckless love that will chase us down and leave the 99 to come and save us. Lord God we're so very thankful that you love us so much and even though we can't earn your love and definitely don't deserve your love you give it to us freely anyway. Lord I ask that you reach out to anyone hearing this that has trouble believing you could love them. I ask that you surround them with your love, that you rain down love and grace on them.  I ask that you open their minds and hearts to the idea of you loving them just as they are.  Lord, I ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, AmenHere are the lyrics for Reckless Love by Cory Asbury:Before I spoke a word, You were singing over meYou have been so, so good to meBefore I took a breath, You breathed Your life in meYou have been so so kind to meOh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of GodOh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the 99And I couldn't earn itI don't deserve it, still You give yourself awayOh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of GodWhen I was Your foe, still Your love fought for meYou have been so, so good to meWhen I felt no worth, You paid it all for meYou have been so, so kind to meOh, the overwhelming, never-ending reckless love of GodOh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the 99And I couldn't earn itI don't deserve it, still You give yourself awayOh, the overwhelming, never-ending reckless love of GodThere's no shadow You won't light upMountain You won't climb upComing after meThere's no wall You won't kick downLie You won't tear downComing after meThere's no shadow You won't light upMountain You won't climb upComing after meThere's no wall You won't kick downLie You won't tear downComing after meThere's no shadow You won't light upMountain You won't climb upComing after meThere's no wall You won't kick downLie You won't tear downComing after meOh, the overwhelming, never-ending reckless love of GodOh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the 99I couldn't earn it, I don't deserve it, still You give yourself awayOh, the overwhelming, never-ending reckless love of God www.findingtruenorthcoaching.comCLICK HERE TO DONATECLICK HERE to sign up for Mentoring CLICK HERE to sign up for Daily "Word from the Lord" emailsCLICK HERE to sign up for free audio training about inviting Jesus into your daily lifeCLICK HERE to buy my book Total Trust in God's Safe Embrace

Opening Song: Egypt (https://open.spotify.com/track/4WMpNinaiTb0bZ05MUsPfF?si=88f9349d215f4ee2) by Brian Johnson, Cory Asbury, Ethan Hulse, Lee Cummings, and Phil Wickham Lyrics: I won't forget The wonder of how You brought Deliverance The exodus of my heart You found me You freed me Held back the waters for my release Oh Yahweh ('Cause) You're the God who fights for me Lord of every victory Hallelujah hallelujah You have torn apart the sea You have led me through the deep Hallelujah hallelujah (oh) (whoa) A cloud by day Is a sign that You are with me The fire by night Is the guiding light to my feet 'Cause You stepped into my Egypt And You took me by the hand And You marched me out in freedom (Straight) Into the promised land (And) Now I will not forget You God I'll sing of all You've done Death is swallowed up forever By the fury of Your love Passage: 32 “Indeed, ask about the earlier days that preceded you, from the day God created mankind on the earth and from one end of the heavens to the other: Has anything like this great event ever happened, or has anything like it been heard of? 33 Has a people heard God's voice speaking from the fire as you have, and lived? 34 Or has a god attempted to go and take a nation as his own out of another nation, by trials, signs, wonders, and war, by a strong hand and an outstretched arm, by great terrors, as the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? 35 You were shown these things so that you would know that the LORD is God; there is no other besides him. 36 He let you hear his voice from heaven to instruct you. He showed you his great fire on earth, and you heard his words from the fire. 37 Because he loved your ancestors, he chose their descendants after them and brought you out of Egypt by his presence and great power, 38 to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you and to bring you in and give you their land as an inheritance, as is now taking place. 39 Today, recognize and keep in mind that the LORD is God in heaven above and on earth below; there is no other. 40 Keep his statutes and commands, which I am giving you today, so that you and your children after you may prosper and so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you for all time.” (Deuteronomy 4:32-40 CSB) Musical Reflection: O Lord, Hear My Prayer by Jacques Berthier Reflection Notes: This song from the Taizé community contains a series of pleas: “O Lord, hear my prayer, O Lord, hear my prayer; when I call, answer me.” The repeated notes emphasize the insistence of the sung prayer, while the descending lines indicate a deep, almost despairing desire to connect. Prayer: Open our hearts, O Lord, and enlighten our minds by the grace of your Holy Spirit, that we may seek what is well-pleasing to your will; and so order our doings after your commandments that we may be found fit to enter into your everlasting joy, through Jesus Christ our Lord. -Bede

Sowing RighteousnessHosea 10:12 “Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will reap a crop of my love; plow the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and shower salvation upon you.”I heard this verse with this translation, which is the Living Bible (TLB) translation yesterday as the verse of the day for KLOVE radio. The person who mentioned this as the verse of the day yesterday said that often, we think of people who have a soft heart in this hard world as weak. However, she said they are brave. It is not easy to have a soft heart, yet in this verse, we are being called to do just that. Being vulnerable in this world is risky because it is so easy to get your heart broken. When I heard the DJ from KLOVE talk about being vulnerable I thought of Cory Asbury's testimony is his song Reckless Love. In his song, Cory Asbury is talking about God's Reckless love. He is talking about how God's love chases us down and fights till we are found. It talks about how God loves us completely and would do anything to find us and bring us back to him, and yet we hurt Him over and over again. I will let him explain it since he does it best, and it is his song. Here is what Cory says about his song Reckless Love.“Many have asked me for clarity on the phrase, “reckless love”. Many have wondered why I'd use a “negative” word to describe God. I've taken some time to write out my thoughts here. I hope it brings answers to your questions. But more than that, I hope it brings you into an encounter with the wildness of His love. When I use the phrase, “the reckless love of God”, I'm not saying that God Himself is reckless. I am, however, saying that the way He loves, is in many regards, quite so. What I mean is this: He is utterly unconcerned with the consequences of His actions with regards to His own safety, comfort, and well-being. His love isn't crafty or slick. It's not cunning or shrewd. In fact, all things considered, it's quite childlike, and might I even suggest, sometimes downright ridiculous. His love bankrupted heaven for you. His love doesn't consider Himself first. His love isn't selfish or self-serving. He doesn't wonder what He'll gain or lose by putting Himself out there. He simply gives Himself away on the off-chance that one of us might look back at Him and offer ourselves in return. His love leaves the ninety-nine to find the one every time. To many practical adults, that's a foolish concept. “But what if he loses the ninety-nine in search of the one?” What if? Finding that one lost sheep is, and will always be, supremely important. His love isn't cautious. No, it's a love that sent His Own Son to die a gruesome death on a cross. There's no “Plan B” with the love of God. He gives His heart so completely, so preposterously, that if refused, most would consider it irreparably broken. Yet He gives Himself away again. The recklessness of His love is seen most clearly in this – it gets Him hurt over and over. Make no mistake, our sin pains His heart. And “70 times 7” is a lot of times to have Your heart broken. Yet He opens up and allows us in every time. His love saw you when you hated Him – when all logic said, “They'll reject me.” He said, “I don't care if it kills me. I'm laying My heart on the line.”To get personal, His love saw me, a broken down kid with regret as deep as the ocean; My innocence and youth poured out like water. Yet, He saw fit to use me for His kingdom because He's just that kind. I didn't earn it, and I sure as heck don't deserve it, but He's just that good. Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.”Isn't that an amazing way to think about God's love? He doesn't worry if He will get hurt, He opens himself up to us knowing we will hurt him over and over again. What if we were this bold. Maybe not with everyone we meet at first, but what if we just started with God? What if we were just able to open up and be honest with him? What if we let our guard down and invited God into the middle of our mess, into the depths of our hearts? The verse above says, “Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will reap a crop of my love; plow the hard ground of your hearts, for now, is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and shower salvation upon you.” If we want to reap a crop of God's love, we need to plant some seeds of righteousness. How do we do that?? I saw an article from Bethel AG Church (click here for the article) that said, “Sowing righteousness simply means doing the right thing in the sight of God. It's obeying the Word no matter what the circumstances may look like. It means showing kindness even when it's undeserved. It's walking in love and keeping the peace when you really want to say something different.”The verse goes on to say that if we soften our hearts and seek the Lord then He may come and shower salvation on you! Who wouldn't want to be showered with salvation? It's the softening of the heart that is the hard part. We might have been through some traumatic things over the years and we have put up walls so that people can't hurt us. The problem with walls is that although they are efficient at protecting our heart from the bad stuff, they also protect it from the good stuff. They are blocking all things from touching our hearts. This means they don't let in the love, the light, the joy. The walls keep all of this from penetrating our hearts as well.If you have walls up around your heart, and most of us do in some way, I ask you to spend some time today inviting the Lord in to show you where these walls are and what you can do about them. Ask the lord if it is safe to take the walls down now. Ask Him to come in and repair your heart, heal your heart. Ask Him to rain down His salvation on you! Give your heart fully to God today and see how your life changes. Be reckless with your love towards God as He is with His love towards you!Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode. Lord, we thank you for your reckless love. We thank you that you love us so completely, so freely, with such little regard for your own well-being. Help us to love you in the same way Lord. Help us to love you with such freedom. Our Father's Love (Part 13) Why Praise Is So ImportantPsalm 103:22 “I will bless and praise the Lord with my whole heart! Let all his works throughout the earth, wherever his dominion stretches—let everything bless the Lord!”This is the last episode in this series. I have really enjoyed taking a look at this psalm and breaking it down to examine it. I have not actually spent a lot of time in the Psalms, and it was beautiful to take the time to go through Psalm 103. Today's topic is one of my favorites. I think my top 3 topics to talk about would be praise, forgiveness, and God's love, not necessarily in that order. These are my favorites because I think they are some of the most important. God has really been showing me over the last few years how important praise is to Him. He often gives us a word of prophecy at our prayer group that talks about how much He loves that we come together to praise Him each week.He has also been telling me over the last few years that praise is a big part of the reason I have been able to grow in my faith so much and that I am able to trust so much. When I ask what I am doing differently, He tells me that I am praising more. I am praising God, not just when I feel like it and not just when all things are going my way. I am praising God every single day, whether it is a good day or a bad day. I actually praise Him more on a bad day sometimes because when I listen to praise music, it can help me change my mood.If you have not discovered any really good praise music, I recommend you go to Spotify and search through Christian music. My mentor, Pamela Crim, put together an awesome playlist called The Big Life Mornings playlist. It is a public playlist on Spotify, and if you type Big Life Mornings playlist into the search function, it will come up. It has a yellow background with someone walking in red shoes. Some of my favorite artists, in case you are not into playlists, are for King and Country, Lauren Daigle, Elevation Worship, Phil Wickham, TobyMac, Cory Asbury, and so many more of the artists that are on that playlist. There are several reasons that I recommend you find some great Christian music that you like.First, listening to Christian music has helped me learn even more how much God loves me. I have included some of my favorite songs in various episodes over the years. However, if you have not heard the song Reckless Love by Cory Asbury, you are really missing out. If you do not do Spotify, you can check out YouTube as well. There is actually a playlist on my channel, WalkBodlyWithJesus, on YouTube that is called Prayer Group, and that is a great list of praise songs. It would be a great place to start. Whether you are on Spotify or YouTube, you can save songs to a playlist, and then you can listen to that playlist whenever you need to.Another reason I recommend you find some good Christian music is because it can change your mood or your focus. Anytime we are anxious, angry, scared, mad, frustrated, or any other feeling, it is because of the story we are telling ourselves. If we are anxious, we are probably focusing on what may or may not happen. If we are angry or frustrated, we might be looking at a situation we can't change. Listening to this music can help shift our focus from our problems, our worries, and our situation to our God. There is a saying that says that instead of looking at how big our problems are, we can focus on how big our God is.  Music can help us do this. If you are listening to songs about how God is a miracle worker and a way-maker, it shifts your focus and helps you praise God in tough times.A third reason I recommend listening to praise music is because it fills your head with God. God will be on your mind more because the things you listen to are the thoughts that will be in your head. Have you ever noticed that when you hang around someone a lot, you start to talk like them? This is because you spend so much time with them, and you are constantly hearing how they talk, so your brain picks it up. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what they are saying. When I first learned this, I was a bit discouraged because the people in my house, with whom I spent the most time, were very negative and used very bad language. I did not want to start talking like they did. I needed to figure out a way to surround myself with different voices. This is when I started to listen to Christian podcasts and was able to find more Christian music. Imagine if you are listening to songs each day that talk about how much God loves us, how much He forgives us, and that talk about who God is. If you are hearing this over and over again, these will be the thoughts that fill your mind, and these will be the thoughts that come to your mind in times of trouble.I feel I could go on and on about why I love listening to praise music. However, I will end with this last point. Praising God helps us become more grateful people. I know sometimes it doesn't feel like we have much reason to praise God. It is not as if my life has been perfect over these last few years, and so that is why I have been able to praise God. I have had some really difficult times over these past few years, actually over the past 20 years. There have been lots of ups and downs in my marriage and in my parenting. My kids have really struggled over the years, and there have been several times in the last six years that I could have gotten really depressed and lost hope. However, I didn't, and I truly believe it was because I have learned to praise God even in the hard times. I was able to do this because there are so many songs out there about people who have made it through really dark times, and God brought them through to the other side. I was able to do this because the thoughts in my mind from constantly listening to praise music are that God is there for me, He will always be there for me, and He can make a way where there is no way.God is so good. He is there for us in good times and in bad times. There is always a reason to praise Him. When we are in a tough time, and we can't find a reason, we can look back to all the times He has provided for us in the past. We can look forward to all the good things He will bring from this hard time. We can look at all the beauty around us and praise Him for that. You don't have to praise God for your situation, you can praise Him for other things. If you want to, you can praise Him for the good that will come from your situation at a later date because we know God can use all things for our good. (Romans 8:28) I challenge all of you to begin to praise God more, and then let me know if you find that your trust in Him is also growing. I know it did for me, and I know I am not the only one. It can help you trust more too. If you are in a season where praising God seems too difficult because of your circumstances, then find some good Christian music to listen to and let them praise God for you while you listen. It will change your life, I am sure of it.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless each person listening to this today. Lord, I ask that each person listen and find some music that praises you that they really like. There are so many different genres of Christian music out there, and I pray each person who listens finds the ones that make their heart happy. Lord, I pray they find songs that fill their soul. I pray this music helps us to praise you when we don't feel we can. I pray this music helps us to shift our focus from our problems to you and how big you are. Lord, help us to find that music that speaks to our hearts, minds, and souls. We want to praise you, Lord. Please show us how. We love you, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. I look forward to meeting you here again tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you, and so do I! Have a blessed day!Today's word of prophecy from our prayer group is: “My love conquered death for all of you. I laid my life down out of this tremendous love that I have for each and every one of you. You are so precious to me. You have no idea how precious you are. You cannot fathom to what depths I would go for each and every one of you. Please remember that I love you through all things. I am with you. You have a line that stretches to my heart and cannot be broken. It is a fishing line, and it cannot be broken. I am on one end, and you are on the other. I love you all. I love you all. My passion was very difficult. I suffered greatly. But I did it for each and every one of you, and I will not see you snatched from me. I love you.”

Episode 78: When the Shepherd finds the one with Mike Lockwood

The Stories Collective

Many of us as Christians are familiar with the parable of the lost sheep in Matthew 18, where the shepherd leaves the 99 just to find the one. This is a story that resonates deeply with today's guest on The Stories Collective, Mike Lockwood. Mike was born and raised in the small town of Newfield, NY and his parents were divorced before he could even remember them being together. Growing up in a small town provided lots of opportunities to get in trouble (as Mike describes) and by the time he was in high school he felt like his reputation preceded him. He didn't have much of a faith background but after high school he and his friends began questioning what the purpose of life was. This led to Mike starting to attend church though it took a while for him to place his trust in Jesus. There was a girl at the church named Mindy who would sing special music and he felt almost immediately that this would be the woman he would marry. Mike and Mindy married in 2001 and moved to Iowa for Mike to start Bible college - they also found out they were pregnant with their daughter quickly into their marriage. Life was moving fast, and though they had developed Christian community Mike began to struggle in his faith. He felt that he didn't fit the mold and began to doubt that God could really work in his life. This led to a years long time of rebellion being in and out of his home and struggling to walk with the Lord. Years of some poor choices and alcohol addiction culminated in the fall of 2005. Mike experienced two instances where he could've and almost died. One experience being an accident and the other being a result of choices he had made. He had truly reached the bottom, and this is where God began to pick him up. Mike finally realized that God had never left him. The Shepherd had come to find the one that had left the 99. Though it was not an overnight change, Mike's life began to turn around. Listen in and be amazed as Mike walks us through how he came back to the Lord, how his marriage and family life was restored and so much more. The incredible and miraculous change that Jesus worked in Mike's life is undeniable. God never gives up on us and that is certainly evident in Mike's story. Mike's interview on The Now Life podcast: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5zLkPqiTaKumOfiplrsoRZ?si=ea37bef2da114c7fReckless Love by Cory Asbury: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sc6SSHuZvQEMen's Summit October 2023: https://dscchurch.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/1780506Harvest Compassion Center: https://harvestcompassioncenter.orgResident Strangers podcast: https://www.dscchurch.com/resident-strangersWould you please subscribe and leave us a review? 1 Corinthians 13:13 says, “So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” The greatest of all aspects of the Christian life is love. Love is to be at the foundation of all we do, all we are, and all we hold on to. If we focus on love and allow the Holy Spirit to strip everything else away, what will be left is a life of blessed simplicity rooted in face-to-face relationship with our heavenly Father. As we spend time this week looking at the simplicity of love, I pray that all the weighty, frivolous things of the world that rob you of an abundant life fall away in light of the glorious goodness of God's unconditional and wholly available love for you.   Our Scripture for today comes from 1 John 4:19, and today's worship is Reckless Love by Cory Asbury. . -- When you trust Christ as your savior and Lord, you begin a relationship that extends into eternity.  However, eternity doesn't start in heaven, and you don't have to wait until then to experience a full life in Christ.   The truth is that we as Christians are called to invest in our relationship with God in this life as well as in the life to come.    And that means becoming more like Christ every single day.    In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus provided a systematic ethic for how to be his disciples.         It was a relatively short sermon, but God's truth in that message has never stopped reverberating throughout the world.   Our latest book, The Path to Purpose delves into the timeless wisdom of Jesus' most famous sermon, the Sermon on the Mount. St Augustine described the sermon as “a perfect standard for the Christian life.”   While we may doubt ourselves from ever achieving such “a perfect standard,” Jesus' central message in his Sermon on the Mount helps us see that standard not as a burden but rather as a source of freedom, purpose, and a guide for living beautifully.   To know more about God's calling on your life, request your copy today of The Path to Purpose: Christ's Vision for Your Life in the Sermon on the Mount, at supportfirst15.org.
