This new year we are beginning a new series, Why Pray, looking at the High Priestly prayer Jesus prayed to examine why and how we should pray. So, why should we pray? To glorify God. When we pray, we are entering into a conversation with God, the Holiest of all. He loves to hear from His children and through our time spent in prayer, we get to know who He is and grow in intimacy with our Father. When we acknowledge God as Father, Jesus as Son, and the glory of Christ we are glorifying God through prayer. Join us in the first message of the series, How to Glorify God in Prayer, and learn how we can grow in our prayer lives.
Why do we pray? How should we pray? Questions many of us have likely wondered before. As we strive for growth in our relationships with God, prayer is a main way we get to know who God is and align our hearts with Him. Salvation's provisions have been completed. Jesus' glory has been revealed. Instructions for life and ministry have been lined out. Holy Spirit teaching and encouragement and correction are ongoing. Promises of victory have been repeated. The otherworldly reality of being in the world while not being of it has been sealed in High Priestly prayer. Per King David, we are to: persevere, be patient, be entwined as one with the Lord, be brave and courageous, never lose hope, keep on waiting* (Ps. 27). We were never meant to do life alone. And yet, in our culture today, our generation is becoming increasingly isolated and lonely. It's even been described as a “loneliness epidemic.” But it doesn't have to be this way! In fact, we were made for real community. Community that is healthy, life-giving, and focused on deep relationships with others, and most-importantly, with God. And this type of community is often not found, it's forged. So to wrap up this series, the last thing we need to know about Christian community is that it's not just for those who are a part of it, but for those who aren't yet. We have a purpose, a reason, a goal to strive towards. And in John 17, in Jesus' "High Priestly prayer," we see that He is calling us as His community to unity, to share the gospel, and to experience God's glory as we gather together on mission to make disciples. We hope you're encouraged by this podcast! If you have questions about our church or what it means to follow Jesus, we'd love to hear from you! GO REBUILD MY CHURCH: A Call to Intercession-Part III In this last three-part series, Peter and Leslie discuss the call to rebuild and renew the ministry of intercession here in our American Catholic Church. Citing the High Priestly prayer of Jesus in John 17, examples from the Acts of the Apostles, and finally in the life of a famous saint, the Doanes believe that joining our Lord in heaven as committed intercessors, the Catholic faith can begin to address the issues of poor leadership, disunity, and persecution from the world system. Throughout salvation history, there have never been unique strategies or human willpower that have brought lasting results. Instead, it has been through intercession, both in heaven and on earth, that releases what Jesus told us to pray: "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
Though the last two sections of Hebrews have been challenging, the author doesn't leave his readers without hope before returning to the exposition of Jesus' High Priestly work. Sunday, we will examine Hebrews 6:13-20, the last part of the digression, before returning to his central teaching about Jesus. For the first five chapters, the author extolled the glories of Jesus and His superior nature. In chapter 5, he began teaching about Jesus as our perfect High Priest, but from 5:11-6:20, he stops to give a command (Go on to maturity), a warning of falling away, and an encouragement of hope. Hebrews 6:13-20 is the encouragement. Using Abraham as an example of one who held fast to his hope, the author shows that the Christian's hope is not found in how well we hold fast but in the promise of God. The writer shows us that God not only gave us a promise but swore an oath that His promise will never fail. By these two unchangeable things (the promise and the oath), we have a hope that anchors our soul in the presence of God. God didn't have to swear an oath because His Word is trustworthy. However, He swore by Himself because when “God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose he guaranteed it with an oath.” (v. 17). The reason He did so is so that “we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.” (v. 18). Sunday, we will examine the promise and oath to Abraham and the promise and oath we have in Christ.

As we jump back into our main series on John's Gospel, we reenter Jesus' High Priestly prayer, where today we will see Jesus praying for our joy!
Prayer was a notable part of Christ's ministry while on earth. His disciples were so moved by how He prayed, they asked Him, Lord, teach us to pray.” Likely the most touching prayer we have recorded was penned by John. Some call it Christ's High Priestly prayer. It is a prayer of intercession for His disciples both then and now. Tonight we will consider a few highlights from this prayer so that we might be strengthened in our own prayer lives. How many appearances of Christ? Happy New Year! We just celebrated the Son of God's first appearance, in Bethlehem. He will come again in the clouds. But another major appearance is mentioned in the book of Hebrews. It wasn't a manifestation to us; it was a High Priestly visit before the throne of God. This one is way too important for us to overlook. We're ready for the second part of Pastor Jim's sermon, Settled in Heaven, starting from Hebrews 9, verse 28. As we end our week on Jesus's High Priestly prayer, today we'll dive into his desire for us to know the Father's great love. Knowing the love of God for us is essential to healthy Christian living. God's love is fundamental to our identity as his children and the sacrifice of Jesus. If we aren't rooted and grounded in the unconditional love of God, we will be like untethered buoys being tossed about in the sea. It may seem elementary that God loves you, but I'd encourage you to open your heart afresh to this reality, that God could reveal his love to you in a real and new way today. Our Scripture for today comes from John 17:25-26. Today's worship is Goodness of God by Jenn Johnson. Thank you so much for listening to our final podcast on Jesus' High Priestly Prayer. I hope and pray that this week has encouraged you. Even now, Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father, and prays for us. God sees you right where you are, knows your triumphs and struggles, and looks at you with eyes of love. May the reality of Jesus' prayer over you guide you into greater depths of relationship with God. Have a wonderful rest of your day, and may God bless you as you seek him.

May your heart and mind be open to God's truth and will for your life today as we seek him together. Today we continue our week on Jesus's High Priestly prayer by exploring the topic of sanctification. What does it mean to be in the world but not of the world? What does sanctification look like played out in our lives practically? Often the concept of being sanctified is daunting and a bit intimidating. But today God wants to clear up our common misconceptions and help us enter this process with joy. Open your heart to the kindness of Jesus and allow him to give you rest. Our Scripture for today comes from John 17:14-19, and today's worship is Give Us Clean Hands by Passion Music. Thanks so much for listening to today's podcast. I hope you're enjoying the podcasts so far this week as we're unpacking Jesus' High Priestly prayer together. Today as you go out, know that the Lord is sanctifying you out of his love for you, remaking you in his image, that you could enjoy life as it was meant to be lived. We've got two more days of looking at this wonderful passage in John 17 together. I hope the end of this week will enrich and bless you life. May God bless you as you seek him today.
As we continue our week on Jesus's High Priestly prayer, today we'll explore God's desire to see his people unified. Why would this be important to him? What good could be in unity for us and others? What is Jesus trying to communicate to the world through us? May our hearts be open to the answers we discover today as we take a deeper dive. Our Scripture for today comes from John 17:10-11, and today's worship is This Is The Kingdom by Elevation Worship (feat. Pat Barrett). Thanks for listening to today's podcast on the unity available to us in God. Whenever conflict arises today, remember that God has a perfect plan to lead you into unity with others around you. Take a moment, if you can't see the path to unity, and ask him to illuminate it for you. A wonderful prayer you can pray is, God help me to see where you're at work in the lives of others around me. Help me to see you in others.” May God give you a profound sense of connection with your brothers and sisters in the faith today as you seek to live in unity as Jesus' prayed. Have a wonderful rest of your day, and may God bless you as you seek him.
As we take a deep dive into Jesus's High Priestly prayer in John 17 this week, we will discover together the deep desires of the heart of God. Today we explore Jesus's desire to be known by his people. Isn't it amazing to think the God of the universe desires to be known intimately by you and me? What a beautiful blessing and gift he desires to give each of us. May we take hold of this gift and experience it fully today as we take a closer look. Our Scripture for today comes from John 17:3, and today's worship is Out Of Hiding by Steffany Gretzinger. Thank you so much for listening to today's podcast. Rest today in the reality that you were made for relationship. You are not what you do. Who you are is the beloved child of God. When you feel the temptation today to define yourself by your accomplishments, or to seek value from the opinion of others around you, stop and remember that you don't need approval from anyone. The point of life, of all of eternity, is relationship. Have a wonderful rest of your day, and may God bless you as you seek him.
