One word in a worship chorus can carry an entire theology, and it's easy to sing it without ever stopping to ask what it means. Today's Music Monday takes Elevation Worship's song “Jehovah” and uses it as a quick, Scripture-based guide to the name of God that shows up across the Old Testament and in many English Bibles as “LORD.” If you've ever wondered where “Jehovah” comes from, how it relates to “Yahweh,” and why any of this matters for real life, this short devotional is for you. We walk straight into Exodus 3:13–15, where Moses asks God what name to give the people, and God answers with the words that still steady anxious hearts: “I Am Who I Am.” We talk about how God's “I Am” points to his power, his presence, and his reliability, not as an abstract idea, but as something you can lean on when your day feels heavy. This is Bible study that stays practical: when you know what God says about himself, you know how to rely on him. Why Praise Is So ImportantPsalm 103:22 “I will bless and praise the Lord with my whole heart! Let all his works throughout the earth, wherever his dominion stretches—let everything bless the Lord!”My top 3 favorite topics to talk about are praise, forgiveness, and God's love, not necessarily in that order. These are my favorites because I think they are some of the most important. God has really been showing me over the last few years how important praise is to Him. He often gives us a word of prophecy at our prayer group that talks about how much He loves that we come together to praise Him each week. Here is one example from June 2025: “Praise me with your whole heart and soul. I long to know you from the depths of your very being. Sing praises to me, for I am your God who loves you.”He has also been telling me over the last few years that praise is a big part of the reason I have been able to grow in my faith so much and that I am able to trust so much. When I ask what I am doing differently, He tells me that I am praising more. I am praising God, not just when I feel like it, and not just when all things are going my way. I am praising God every single day, whether it is a good day or a bad day. I actually praise Him more on bad days sometimes because listening to praise music can help me change my mood.If you have not discovered any really good praise music, go to Spotify and search through Christian music. My mentor, Pamela Crim, put together an awesome playlist called The Big Life Mornings playlist. It is a public playlist on Spotify, and if you type "Big Life Mornings" into the search, it will come up. I also have one called “Walk Boldly With Jesus Favorites,” which you can also find on Spotify. Some of my favorite artists, in case you are not into playlists, include for King and Country, Lauren Daigle, Elevation Worship, Phil Wickham, TobyMac, Cory Asbury, and so many more on that playlist. There are several reasons that I recommend you find some great Christian music that you like.First, listening to Christian music has helped me learn even more about how much God loves me. I have included some of my favorite songs in various episodes over the years. However, if you have not heard the song Reckless Love by Cory Asbury, you are really missing out. If you do not use Spotify, you can check out YouTube as well. There is actually a playlist on my channel, “WalkBodlyWithJesus”, on YouTube called Prayer Group, and it is a great list of praise songs. It would be a great place to start. Whether you are on Spotify or YouTube, you can save songs to a playlist and listen to it whenever you need to.Another reason I recommend you find some good Christian music is that it can change your mood or your focus. Anytime we are anxious, angry, scared, mad, frustrated, or any other feeling, it is because of the story we are telling ourselves. If we are anxious, we are probably focusing on what may or may not happen. If we are angry or frustrated, we might be looking at a situation we can't change. Listening to this music can help shift our focus from our problems, our worries, and our situation to our God. There is a saying that says that instead of looking at how big our problems are, we can focus on how big our God is. Music can help us do this. If you are listening to songs about how God is a miracle worker and a way-maker, it shifts your focus and helps you praise God in tough times.A third reason I recommend listening to praise music is that it fills your head with God. God will be on your mind more because the things you listen to become the thoughts in your head. Have you ever noticed that when you hang around someone a lot, you start to talk like them? This is because you spend so much time with them and constantly hear how they talk, so your brain picks it up. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what they are saying. When I first learned this, I was discouraged because the people in my house, with whom I spent the most time, were very negative and used very bad language. I did not want to start talking like they did. I needed to figure out a way to surround myself with different voices. This is when I started listening to Christian podcasts and found more Christian music. Imagine if you were listening to songs each day that talk about how much God loves us, how much He forgives us, and who God is. If you are hearing this over and over again, these will be the thoughts that fill your mind, and these will be the thoughts that come to your mind in times of trouble.I feel I could go on and on about why I love listening to praise music. However, I will end with this last point. Praising God helps us become more grateful people. I know sometimes it doesn't feel like we have much reason to praise God. It is not as if my life has been perfect over the last few years; that is why I have been able to praise God. I have had some really difficult times over these past few years, actually over the past 20 years. There have been lots of ups and downs in my marriage and in my parenting. My kids have really struggled over the years, and there have been several times that I could have gotten really depressed and lost hope. However, I didn't, and I truly believe it was because I have learned to praise God even in the hard times. I was able to do this because there are so many songs out there about people who have made it through really dark times, and God brought them through to the other side. I was able to do this because the thoughts in my mind from constantly listening to praise music are that God is there for me, He will always be there for me, and He can make a way where there is no way.God is so good. He is there for us in good times and bad. There is always a reason to praise Him. When we are in a tough time and can't find a reason, we can look back on all the times He has provided for us in the past. We can look forward to all the good things He will bring from this hard time. We can look at all the beauty around us and praise Him for that. You don't have to praise God for your situation; you can praise Him for other things. If you want to, you can praise Him for the good that will come from your situation at a later date because we know God can use all things for our good. (Romans 8:28) I challenge all of you to begin to praise God more, and then let me know if you find that your trust in Him is also growing. I know it did for me, and I know I am not the only one. It can help you trust more, too. If you are in a season when praising God seems too difficult because of your circumstances, find some good Christian music to listen to and let it praise God for you while you listen. It will change your life, I am sure of it.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless each person listening to this today. Lord, I ask that each person listen and find some music that praises you that they really like. There are so many different genres of Christian music out there, and I pray that each person who listens finds the ones that make their heart happy. Lord, I pray they find songs that fill their soul. I pray this music helps us to praise you when we don't feel we can. I pray this music helps us to shift our focus from our problems to you and how big you are. Lord, help us to find that music that speaks to our hearts, minds, and souls. We want to praise you, Lord, please show us how. We love you, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. I look forward to meeting you here again tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you, and so do I! Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Today's shout-out goes to Jim Travato from Brentwood, CA. Jim, your partnership with us through Project 23 is helping us and others remember what God has done in the past and will do in the future. This study is for you. Our text today is Mark 8:14-21: Now they had forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. And he cautioned them, saying, “Watch out; beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.” And they began discussing with one another the fact that they had no bread. And Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear? And do you not remember? When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They said to him, “Twelve.” “And the seven for the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” And they said to him, “Seven.” And he said to them, “Do you not yet understand?” — Mark 8:14-21 The disciples forget bread. Again. And as they're grumbling about lunch, Jesus gives them a deeper warning: “Beware the leaven of the Pharisees and Herod.” But they miss the point. They think Jesus is mad because they forgot the food. Jesus isn't talking about carbs. He's talking about corruption. Leaven was a metaphor. Just a pinch of it affects the whole loaf. And just a pinch of pride, hypocrisy, and unbelief—like that of the Pharisees and Herod—can corrupt the soul. But the disciples are stuck in their heads on bread. So Jesus hits them with a list of questions: Don't you understand? Are your hearts hardened? Didn't you see the miracles? Don't you remember what I did with five loaves? With seven? They had seen the power of Jesus multiply what little they had. But somehow—they still worried there wouldn't be enough. The danger wasn't the lack of bread—it was the lack of belief. And that's the same danger we face today. You've seen Jesus provide—but you still stress about tomorrow. You've seen Jesus' power—but still act like it's all up to you. You've watched Jesus move—but forget by the time the next challenge hits. That's spiritual amnesia. And Jesus calls it out in the lives of his disciples and ours. But Jesus is not frustrated by your questions. He's grieved by your forgetfulness. Because when you forget what God has done, you start depending on yourself again. So, pause today. Remember the baskets in your life. Remember the miracles he has done in the past. Remember what he did with your “not enough.” And let that memory build your trust today. Then, keep believing and moving forward. #RememberGod, #FaithNotFear, #Mark8 ASK THIS: What “basket moments” have you forgotten? How does forgetting God's past provision affect today's faith? What does “leaven” look like in your life today? How can you train your heart to remember? DO THIS: Write down three things God has provided for you this year—and thank him for each one. PRAY THIS: Jesus, forgive me for forgetting Your past faithfulness. Help me remember who You are—and trust You with what's next. Amen. PLAY THIS: “Do It Again” by Elevation Worship.
Join Lisa and Laura for the final episode in our series Names of God. In biblical times, names were of great importance—they conveyed a person's essence, history, nature, or character. As we explore the various names of God in the Old Testament, we gain insight into His character. With each name, we will learn a new attribute, deepening our understanding of and growing closer to God. In today's episode, we explore our seventh name, Jehovah Jireh—my provider. The word for provide, “jireh," in the Old Testament, means to see. When God sees, He foresees. Our all-knowing, ever-present, eternal Father knows the end from the beginning and so in His omniscience, He provides. But what about when God asks us to do things that don't make sense? When what is happening looks like the opposite of His provision—a contradiction to what He promised? This is what today's episode is about, and you do not want to miss it. Open your Heart to our key Scripture. Genesis 22:1–19 Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. Hebrews 11:19: He considered that God was able to raise men even from the dead. 2 Chronicles 3:1: Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David, at the place that David had prepared, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. Hebrews 10:4–5: For since it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins … but a body you have prepared for me. Genesis 22:3: So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac; and he cut the wood for the place of which God had told him. Genesis 39:23: The Lord was with him and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper. Hebrews 11:8–22 John 16:33: I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. Invite Him in with this episode's questions for reflection. Are you willing to let go? Are you willing to trust God completely, even with your Isaac? What is your Isaac? Bonus question: What can you do to avoid defining God based only on His gifts to you? Show mentions. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Today's shout-out goes to Bob & Shannon Maxiner from Lake Elmo, MN. Thank you for partnering with us through Project23. Your support reminds us that Jesus is always more than enough. This one's for you. Our text today is Mark 6:35-44: And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is now late. Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said to him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat?” And he said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they had found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.” Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties. And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men. — Mark 6:35-44 The sun was setting. The crowd was huge. And the disciples were doing the math. After a few quick calculations, they concluded that there was not enough. Enough time. Enough money. Enough food. It's a rational thought about the necessary rations. Five thousand men, not counting women and children. In a remote location. But Jesus challenges their rational logic with a divine line: “You give them something to eat.” And their scarcity mentality kicks in. “Are we supposed to spend two hundred denarii on bread?” “We only have five loaves and two fish.” The disciples only perceived natural impossibilities. Jesus perceived spiritual possibilities. Scarcity sees lack—but faith sees the Lord. Jesus tells them to organize the crowd. He blesses the bread. He breaks the fish. What wasn't enough in their hands becomes more than enough in his. “And they all ate and were satisfied.” Every need was met. No one went hungry. It cost nothing. They traveled nowhere. And there were twelve baskets of leftovers. This is what happens when we surrender scarcity to the Savior. Too many believers live day-by-day with a scarcity mentality. Not enough time. Not enough talent. Not enough experience. Not enough influence. Not enough faith. And so we play it safe. We hold back. We tell Jesus to “send them/it away.” However, Jesus never operates from a place of scarcity or lack. He's not concerned about how much you have—he's asking if you'll have faith, bring what you have, and give it to him. Because what feels insufficient to us becomes sufficient in Jesus's hands. So stop living with a scarcity mentality. Live by faith. Bring what you have. Let Jesus multiply and make it more than enough. ASK THIS: Why do you think the disciples focused on what they didn't have? What does this story teach us about God's provision? Where are you tempted to say, “It's not enough”? What would it look like to trust Jesus with that area today? DO THIS: Identify one area where you've been operating from a scarcity mindset. Write it down, bring it to Jesus in prayer, and trust Him to do more than you can see. PRAY THIS: Jesus, I confess I've been focused on what I lack. Today I choose to bring what I have to you. Help me trust that your hands are better than mine. Amen. PLAY THIS: "More Than Able" by Elevation Worship

How can music help us heal? What role does worship play in our most difficult seasons? Songwriter, worship leader and singer Mack Brock has written countless songs that have helped people connect with God. But there is one song that became a rally cry for Davey Blackburn after losing his wife, Amanda and their unborn child in a home invasion. It was the song Nothing is Wasted by Elevation Worship. Mack was one of the songwriters and the singer on the release of that song. Mack could never have known that the words he penned years ago, would become a glimmer of hope to Davey in his darkest moment and a living reminder on which he would later build a ministry. In this full circle conversation, Davey and Mack talk about the impact of the song Nothing is Wasted had on Davey personally, how God can use worship and music in our healing and why it is so important to take small steps of faith into a bigger, unforeseen purpose. If you've ever been impacted by a song in your journey towards healing, this episode will teach you that God will use even the music that we hear to speak to us in our pain and remind us that nothing is wasted.
