Pastor Levi Lusko joins Justin Roethlingshoefer on The OWN IT Show for a Holy Health conversation on health as worship (not performance), why the Church keeps falling into two extremes (neglect vs idolatry), and how “holy health” is ultimately surrendered health —built to carry your calling. In a world that turns “discipline” into the goal, Justin and Levi call out what most people don't see: you can quote Scripture, lead well, and still quietly run your body into the ground—until your peace, patience, and relationships begin to erode. This episode reframes the true metric of Holy Health: it's not your image, your biohacks, or your numbers—it's stewardship + obedience… because that's what builds long-term capacity. They also unpack:
It's Thursday, June 11th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Nigerian court sentences Muslims to death for executing Catholics Last week, a court in the African nation of Nigeria sentenced four Muslim men to death for killing dozens of Catholics. Four years ago, the gunmen attacked a Pentecost Sunday service at a Catholic Church in southwest Nigeria. They killed 41 people, including children. Authorities determined that the armed men belonged to Al-Shabaab, an Islamic terrorist group. The massacre was the first terrorist attack on a church in southern Nigeria. According to Open Doors, Nigeria is the seventh most dangerous country worldwide for Christians. Proverbs 7:14 and 16 says, “Behold, the wicked man conceives evil . . . His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends.” Sudanese man arrested in Ireland for attempted beheading Authorities in Northern Ireland arrested a migrant from the African nation of Sudan on Tuesday. Police in Belfast accused him of carrying out a severe knife attack on a man in his 40s. People across the United Kingdom responded to the attempted beheading with protests. The victim was hospitalized with significant injuries to his face, neck, and back. Many U.K. citizens question their government's immigration policies, including Member of Parliament Rupert Lowe. In February, the lawmaker launched a national political party called Restore Britain. The party is devoted to ending mass immigration and also openly recognizes Britain's Christian heritage. Congress funds $70 billion for ICE and Border Patrol In the United States, President Donald Trump signed the Secure America Act yesterday. The $70 billion package fully funds the Department of Homeland Security. The bill specifically covers U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection for the rest of President Trump's second term. Listen to comments from House Speaker Mike Johnson after Congress passed the bill. JOHNSON: “The historic mandate that put President Trump in the White House and Republican majorities in both the House and the Senate is evidence of the fact that Democrats' ‘Defund the Police' agenda is wildly out of step with hardworking American families. After four long years of Democrat policies that opened the door to dangerous criminals and deadly drugs, Republicans are delivering on our promise to restore safe streets and secure our borders.” Inflation rose 4.3% Inflation reached a three-year high last month for American consumers. The cost of goods and services rose 4.2 percent in May compared to a year ago. Rising energy costs drove the inflation. Gasoline prices were up 40 percent from a year earlier. iPhone launch connected to lower U.S. fertility rate A new study from the National Bureau of Economic Research suggests that the launch of the iPhone contributed to declining fertility rates in the U.S. Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007. The U.S. general fertility rate has fallen by 22 percent since then. People have been spending more time on their smartphones and less time with each other. The study noted, “Overall, the diffusion of the iPhone explains 33–52% of the decline in the general fertility rate among women aged 15–44.” Southern Baptists: Only men can serve as pastors The Southern Baptist Convention affirmed its position yesterday that only men can serve as pastors. Over 70 percent of the denomination's representatives voted in favor of the “Truth and Unity Amendment.” The measure was sponsored by Albert Mohler Jr., the president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. The amendment would require churches in the denomination to not appoint women as pastors, elders, or overseers. Listen to comments from Dr. Mohler. MOHLER: “This motion makes very clear that we affirm the historic Baptist understanding of the pastor, elder, overseer. The structure of the language I have brought goes all the way back to the 1689 Baptist Confession, where the office and function of the pastor are clearly delineated. “This amendment makes very clear that a church, in friendly cooperation with the Southern Baptist Convention, doesn't have anyone other than a man as pastor in the office of pastor and specifies on the functions of the pastor that the key central function of preaching the Word of God to the gathered assembly is limited to men by Scripture.” 1 Timothy 3:1-2 says, “If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore, an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach.” Animated movie “David” claims #1 spot on Netflix And finally, the animated film David reached the number one spot on Netflix for movies in the United States over the weekend. The Bible movie from Angel Studios officially premiered on the streaming service just last Wednesday. (audio from David movie trailer) DAVID: “I'm just a shepherd, but deep down I know I can take on the world.” NARRATOR: “There is a darkness over the land.” SAMUEL: “Our enemies will strike once more.” MAN: “Imagine the biggest warrior you have ever seen!” DAVID: “Okay.” MAN: “Now imagine somebody ate him.” GIRL: “Remember when I told you God had big plans for you?” GOLIATH: “You will serve us!” GIRL: “They may have been bigger than even I thought.” Christian music artist Phil Wickham voiced the adult David in the movie. Wickham told Crosswalk Headlines the film is “full of the story of God and full of Psalms and full of hallelujah and faith and hope. … I think this movie will last decades. I think it will be something our grandkids watch.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, June 11th, in the year of our Lord 2026. Biohacking and longevity are everywhere—CGMs, peptides, cold plunges, sauna protocols, and expensive testing—all chasing the same outcome: live longer and function better. But here's what most people miss: the strongest longevity principles aren't new. They're ancient. They're biblical. And modern science keeps “discovering” what God already designed. In this episode of The OWN IT Show, Justin breaks down 5 biblical habits for longevity—and the science behind why they work—through one core lens: health is worship, not performance. You'll learn:✅ Sabbath (Recovery): why your body needs a real stop—and why God called it holy ✅ Fasting (Cellular repair): what autophagy is, and why fasting is formation—not a flex ✅ Community (Belonging): why covenant community builds resilience (and why “networking” isn't the same)✅ Movement (Strength + stamina): why discipline is stewardship for the long haul ✅ Food (Whole ingredients): why “grandma food” still wins—simple, recognizable, minimally processedThe deeper point: longevity without purpose becomes “optimization without telos”—better numbers, but an unchanged life.If this hit you, share it with someone chasing health—but missing the why. And remember: we were given the right answers for free… so take care of the temple. ============================================================================Our Sponsor:The Rise of the Health Haven Documentary — Watch the full story of how Justin and Alyse transformed their backyard into a purpose-built wellness sanctuary. What happens when a worship leader finally stops hiding? That is the question underneath everything Jordan Colle shares in this conversation. He is a worship leader and songwriter with Bethel Music, currently touring with Phil Wickham and carrying a multigenerational ministry legacy that started long before anyone knew his name. But the most honest moment in this episode is not about the tour or the songs. It is about what shifted when he finally laid everything at the feet of Jesus and stopped pretending some of it was not there. In this episode you will hear how growing up in a ministry family shaped his view of worship from the very beginning, what a moment in South Florida at a worship school confirmed about his calling through Isaiah 61, what it was like returning to his home church as a 20-year-old leading a team of people twice his age, what four years writing alongside Brandon Lake taught him about finding his voice, and how he has learned to hold calling in one hand and surrender in the other without crushing either one. This is a conversation for worship leaders who want to lead from a deeper place. Not just a more polished one. Worship Online is your new secret weapon for preparing each week. I'm not a Lead Pastor, but I can't imagine anything more difficult than pastoring in today's political climate. We feel that these days are unique, but in reality they are not. History has much to teach us. Occasionally I like to bring Lead Pastors onto the podcast to talk about how they're navigating cultural issues. My guest today is Evan Wickham. Evan is the older brother of Phil Wickham, also a worship leader and songwriter, and the pastor of Park Hill Church in San Diego, California. Here's what's interesting: In his very church, he has a Christian Border Patrol Agent and Immigrant families, both trying to make sense of the times in which we live. Evan's perspective on how to pastor faithfully is enlightening. What does faithful pastoring look like? How do partisan politics compromise the gospel? Should our Sunday services address the latest issues in the news or should we just stick to the gospel? Is it possible to pastor from the political center? We can't escape politics, no matter how much we would like to try. Politics effect how we live together. The Bible is a political book. Conversations like this rarely make anyone happy but faithful leaders need to step into the tension. Don't miss the end of the conversation where we talk about worship, songwriting, and the presence of God in our churches. Evan's challenge were beautiful and surprising. Topics Covered: Deconstruction and staying in the Church Why Baby Boomer pastors are not known for letting go 3 signs that you are a healthy pastor The Matt Walsh vs Evan Wickham social media beef How to think about what President Trump is saying and doing How to Pastor both right and left leaning people in your congregation What the presence of God actually means Whether we should pursue revival or not Resources Mentioned: Show Sponsor: Planning Center Christ the King of Love by Evan Wickham Evan Wickham Substack Show Sponsor: Planning Center This episode is brought to you by Planning Center, helping you sync all your ministry details across your whole church. Planning Center has become so essential to how I manage a team, that it's almost impossible to consider local church ministry without it anymore. Today, I want to leave you with a PCO pro-tip. Does this sound like a familiar situation? It's the end of the week. You're about to leave the office when you suddenly think: Did all of our volunteers confirm for Sunday? You scroll through the schedule and sure enough—there's a gap. Instead of allowing yourself to spiral into a panic, try this: In Services, Planning Center has gap alerts. Turn them on, and you'll get a heads-up days before service if positions are still unfilled or unconfirmed. No more end of the week scrambling. Speaking of less scrambling, did you know you can access everything you need for rehearsals right from the Service media player on your phone? Lyrics, chord charts, arrangement notes—it's all right there, so you're not hunting for files in the middle of hitting those power chords. Send a textRounding out this latest installment of "Stuff That's Been On My Mind," we take a look at a topic that has been brewing over recent years. The modern worship industry has become a multi-million dollar business, generating massive revenue streams for various churches, pastors, and artists. But behind the curtain of this ministry, are there issues within any of these churches or with the worship itself? Is it time for new voices to rise, is it time for a reset in who/what sets the tone for worship in many of our churches? This podcast answers to the affirmative: that yes worship does need a reset; a renewal of sorts. Songs have gotten overwhelmingly me-focused, theological truth has gotten watered down, and most of our songs come from a small, but centralized group of writers and churches. This episode invites you to enter this discussion with an open mind and leave well-informed with some action steps to take. Send us a textAct One Podcast - Episode 48 - Interview with Directors Phil Cunningham and Brent Dawes of the new film, DAVID.From the songs of his mother's heart to the whispers of a faithful God, David's story begins in quiet devotion. When the giant Goliath rises to terrorize a nation, a young shepherd armed with only a sling, a few stones, and unshakable faith steps forward. Pursued by power and driven by purpose, his journey tests the limits of loyalty, love, and courage—culminating in a battle not just for a crown, but for the soul of a kingdom. Released by Angel Studios, DAVID is in theaters everywhere beginning December 19th, 2025.Phil Cunningham's passion for storytelling was ignited and fueled as a young boy growing up in the wild frontier of Zimbabwe, where day-to-day life was often interspersed with larger-than-life characters and fantastic stories. Phil was struck by the incredible power of stories to impact society and in particular the power of animation to cross race, culture, age and gender barriers better than any other medium. Over the last 25 years, Phil together with Jacqui, has built Sunrise Animation Studios in Cape Town, South Africa. The studio's mission statement is “Inspire Through Story".Brent Dawes has spent over two decades as the Creative Lead at Sunrise Animation Studios, where (among many other projects) he created the Jungle Beat series and directed Jungle Beat: The Movie, which Netflix acquired in 2021, where it ranked in the Top 10 movies across all genres in its first 3 weeks. Dawes is the writer and co director of the Young David Shorts and the David animated feature film.Sunrise Animation Studios is a full-service animation studio based in Cape Town, South Africa. Why Praise Is So ImportantPsalm 103:22 “I will bless and praise the Lord with my whole heart! Let all his works throughout the earth, wherever his dominion stretches—let everything bless the Lord!”My top 3 favorite topics to talk about are praise, forgiveness, and God's love, not necessarily in that order. These are my favorites because I think they are some of the most important. God has really been showing me over the last few years how important praise is to Him. He often gives us a word of prophecy at our prayer group that talks about how much He loves that we come together to praise Him each week. Here is one example from June 2025: “Praise me with your whole heart and soul. I long to know you from the depths of your very being. Sing praises to me, for I am your God who loves you.”He has also been telling me over the last few years that praise is a big part of the reason I have been able to grow in my faith so much and that I am able to trust so much. When I ask what I am doing differently, He tells me that I am praising more. I am praising God, not just when I feel like it, and not just when all things are going my way. I am praising God every single day, whether it is a good day or a bad day. I actually praise Him more on bad days sometimes because listening to praise music can help me change my mood.If you have not discovered any really good praise music, go to Spotify and search through Christian music. My mentor, Pamela Crim, put together an awesome playlist called The Big Life Mornings playlist. It is a public playlist on Spotify, and if you type "Big Life Mornings" into the search, it will come up. I also have one called “Walk Boldly With Jesus Favorites,” which you can also find on Spotify. Some of my favorite artists, in case you are not into playlists, include for King and Country, Lauren Daigle, Elevation Worship, Phil Wickham, TobyMac, Cory Asbury, and so many more on that playlist. There are several reasons that I recommend you find some great Christian music that you like.First, listening to Christian music has helped me learn even more about how much God loves me. I have included some of my favorite songs in various episodes over the years. However, if you have not heard the song Reckless Love by Cory Asbury, you are really missing out. If you do not use Spotify, you can check out YouTube as well. There is actually a playlist on my channel, “WalkBodlyWithJesus”, on YouTube called Prayer Group, and it is a great list of praise songs. It would be a great place to start. Whether you are on Spotify or YouTube, you can save songs to a playlist and listen to it whenever you need to.Another reason I recommend you find some good Christian music is that it can change your mood or your focus. Anytime we are anxious, angry, scared, mad, frustrated, or any other feeling, it is because of the story we are telling ourselves. If we are anxious, we are probably focusing on what may or may not happen. If we are angry or frustrated, we might be looking at a situation we can't change. Listening to this music can help shift our focus from our problems, our worries, and our situation to our God. There is a saying that says that instead of looking at how big our problems are, we can focus on how big our God is. Music can help us do this. If you are listening to songs about how God is a miracle worker and a way-maker, it shifts your focus and helps you praise God in tough times.A third reason I recommend listening to praise music is that it fills your head with God. God will be on your mind more because the things you listen to become the thoughts in your head. Have you ever noticed that when you hang around someone a lot, you start to talk like them? This is because you spend so much time with them and constantly hear how they talk, so your brain picks it up. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what they are saying. When I first learned this, I was discouraged because the people in my house, with whom I spent the most time, were very negative and used very bad language. I did not want to start talking like they did. I needed to figure out a way to surround myself with different voices. This is when I started listening to Christian podcasts and found more Christian music. Imagine if you were listening to songs each day that talk about how much God loves us, how much He forgives us, and who God is. If you are hearing this over and over again, these will be the thoughts that fill your mind, and these will be the thoughts that come to your mind in times of trouble.I feel I could go on and on about why I love listening to praise music. However, I will end with this last point. Praising God helps us become more grateful people. I know sometimes it doesn't feel like we have much reason to praise God. It is not as if my life has been perfect over the last few years; that is why I have been able to praise God. I have had some really difficult times over these past few years, actually over the past 20 years. There have been lots of ups and downs in my marriage and in my parenting. My kids have really struggled over the years, and there have been several times that I could have gotten really depressed and lost hope. However, I didn't, and I truly believe it was because I have learned to praise God even in the hard times. I was able to do this because there are so many songs out there about people who have made it through really dark times, and God brought them through to the other side. I was able to do this because the thoughts in my mind from constantly listening to praise music are that God is there for me, He will always be there for me, and He can make a way where there is no way.God is so good. He is there for us in good times and bad. There is always a reason to praise Him. When we are in a tough time and can't find a reason, we can look back on all the times He has provided for us in the past. We can look forward to all the good things He will bring from this hard time. We can look at all the beauty around us and praise Him for that. You don't have to praise God for your situation; you can praise Him for other things. If you want to, you can praise Him for the good that will come from your situation at a later date because we know God can use all things for our good. (Romans 8:28) I challenge all of you to begin to praise God more, and then let me know if you find that your trust in Him is also growing. I know it did for me, and I know I am not the only one. It can help you trust more, too. If you are in a season when praising God seems too difficult because of your circumstances, find some good Christian music to listen to and let it praise God for you while you listen. It will change your life, I am sure of it.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless each person listening to this today. Lord, I ask that each person listen and find some music that praises you that they really like. There are so many different genres of Christian music out there, and I pray that each person who listens finds the ones that make their heart happy. Lord, I pray they find songs that fill their soul. I pray this music helps us to praise you when we don't feel we can. I pray this music helps us to shift our focus from our problems to you and how big you are. Lord, help us to find that music that speaks to our hearts, minds, and souls. We want to praise you, Lord, please show us how. We love you, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. I look forward to meeting you here again tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you, and so do I! “The church is a multiethnic and multicultural assembly of believers spanning history that God has called into fellowship with Christ and with one another. We gather regularly to consider the teachings of the Bible and to orient our lives around God's coming kingdom. Together we wait for God to make all things new, and we bear witness to the world of what God has already done.” - Becoming God's FamilyWhat is the purpose of the church? If you talked with different people you'd likely get different answers. You might hear that it's a place to worship God. You might hear that it's just a place people go to feel better about their lives. There's a broader conversation happening about whether or not the church still matters. Even amongst Christians, there's a question over why they need to go to church when they can just believe in Jesus and read the Bible on their own. Today's episode is all about the church and the importance of with-ness. My guest today is Dr. Carmen Joy Imes, associate professor of Old Testament at Biola University and author of the new book Becoming God's Family: Why the Church Still Matters. In this conversation we talk about her trilogy of books about our relationship with and to God (of which this is the third), we talk about why there's even a question around whether the church matters or not, we talk about the role and function of the church, and the truth of how church gatherings are really oriented around what we cannot do on our own. The Charlie Kirk Memorial in Arizona was a singular event that blended religion and politics in powerful ways. It featured a lot of Christian music. Brandon Lake, Chris Tomlin, Phil Wickham, Kari Jobe Carnes, Cody Carnes and Tiffany Hudson all led the 100,000 people in the stadium and estimated 20 million watching online in worship songs. To analyze what it means that these artists performed at this event and how their music functioned in the event, we're joined by Kelsey Kramer McGinnis and David Gate. Kelsey Kramer McGinnis is a musicologist, worship music correspondent for Christianity Today, and co-author of The Myth of Good Christian Parenting: How False Promises Failed a Generation of Evangelicals.David Gate is a poet, writer and visual artist who used to lead worship in England, Ireland and the American South. “The act of confessing our sins to one another is a graced invitation to practice the way of faith, hope, and love. The soul tempted to despair will be particularly allergic to ecclesial confession, but it is here that they will find great remedy for their agonizing condition. For in confessing their sins to one another, they are heard with the faith of fellow saints, they are encouraged by the hope of fellow pilgrims, and they are loved with the charity of brothers and sisters.” - Pastoral ConfessionsConfession is not an easy topic - but it is a healthy topic. Oftentimes when the topic of confession is brought up, it's met with one of two responses: 1. "My walls are now up and I'm tuning out what is being talked about." 2. "This is so true and important and a lot of other people have things to confess." But like I said, confession is healthy. And even more than that, confession is necessary. Now I may be biased, but one of the best books on confession releases one week from today - Pastoral Confessions written by my friend Jamin Goggin. Jamin has been on this podcast a few times in the past. He's an associate professor at Talbot School of Theology, Director of the Healthy Pastor Initiative for Finishing the Task, and one of the most thoughtful theologians I know. In today's conversation Jamin and I talk about what led him to write about confession, the real human struggles with sin and confession, some ways we can more normalize confession, and much more. You can find a link to pre-order Pastoral Confession in the show notes. I should point out, and we talk about this in the conversation, Pastoral Confessions is a book primarily written to Pastors, but its deep thoughts and themes of confession are important for all of us. Now, my conversation with Jamin Goggin. Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Jason Wieland. It premiered in 2017 and now offers more than 400 episodes. Americans can’t deny it—there's been a major cultural shift since the tragic death of Charlie Kirk, inspiring countless individuals to seek Jesus Christ and live more boldly for Him. At Charlie’s memorial service, what could have been a somber occasion became a powerful revival, feeling more like a Harvest Crusade than a funeral! Prominent voices like Vice President JD Vance and Tucker Carlson unapologetically spoke out in faith, while worship leaders like Chris Tomlin and Phil Wickham filled the stadium with worship. The most unforgettable moment came when Erika Kirk offered a stunning act of forgiveness toward her husband’s murderer. Is America finally experiencing a spiritual awaking? Pastor Greg Laurie believes so and urges Christians not to let this moment in time slip by. -- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. It's Monday, September 22nd, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus South Korean pastor has disappeared A week after Pastor Son Hyun-bo from Busan Segyeoro Church in South Korea was arrested for violating public election laws, little information has been made public about his well-being or whereabouts, reports International Christian Concern. Pastor Son, who was arrested on September 8th, is facing the charges in part for allegedly interviewing an election candidate, Jeong Seung-yoon, during a church service and uploading a video of the conversation to social media. He also faces allegations of holding a “prayer service for victory” at Jeong's campaign office and stating, “We must vote for the right-wing candidate and truly establish God's kingdom.” Pastor Son has been active in contending against government overreach, including serving as a leader of the “Save Korea” group, which campaigns against the current left-leaning South Korean President Lee Myung, prime minister, and Democratic Party, who are in power. The outcry against Pastor Son's arrest has been strong. One representative stated openly that, “Pastor Son's arrest is not about an individual but a suppression of all religious figures.” Charlie Kirk's memorial pointed the world to Christ I felt compelled to attend Charlie Kirk's memorial at State Farm Arena in Phoenix, Arizona yesterday. (You can watch it here) So, on Friday and Saturday, my bride, Amy, and I drove 15 hours over two days from San Antonio, Texas with our three children – Honor, age 15, Mercy, age 13, and Valor, age 10 – to celebrate his life and grieve his death at the hands of an assassin's bullet on September 10th at Utah Valley University. Reportedly, 300,000 people from across America came by car and plane. Our family sat in the State Farm Arena which held 63,400 people. Next door, the Desert Diamond Arena held an additional 20,000 people who watched big video screens. Beginning with Christian worship led by Brandon Lake, Chris Tomlin, Phil Wickham, as well as Cody and Kari Carnes, it was a deeply moving experience as speaker after speaker echoed Charlie Kirk's call to come to Christ. Benny Johnson came to faith in Christ through Charlie Kirk Benny Johnson, a conservative influencer, was quite candid. JOHNSON: “When Charlie first met me, I was a degenerate loser. I was addicted to alcohol. I had no wife, I had no kids. I had nothing going for me. After 10 years of work with Charlie Kirk, after his witnessing to my life, I have become a Christ-centered man. I am happily married to the woman of my dreams, sitting right there with our youngest son, who just turned eight months.” He framed the assassination of Charlie Kirk in light of the truth of Genesis 50:20. JOHNSON: “What man intends for evil. God intends for good. Evil thought that there would be a funeral today. God has created a revival right here in this house right now.” (applause) Indeed, through the 3,200 chapters of Turning Point USA not only are more college students equipped with the truth, but many are coming to Christ. Frank Turek: Why Charlie Kirk is in Heaven Frank Turek is a Christian apologist who mentored Charlie with the best answers to tough questions about Christianity. TUREK: “I want you to know that Charlie right now is in Heaven, not because he was a great husband and father. Not because he saved millions of kids out of darkness on college campuses. Not because he changed minds and chased votes to save the country. Not because he sacrificed himself for his savior. Charlie Kirk is in Heaven because his Savior sacrificed himself for Charlie Kirk.” Tucker Carlson: “The only real solution is Jesus.” Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson explained what made Charlie Kirk unique. CARLSON: “The main thing about Charlie and his message, he was bringing the Gospel to the country. He was doing the thing that the people in charge hate most, which is calling for them to repent. “So how is Charlie's message different? Charlie was a political person who was deeply interested in coalition building and in getting the right people in office because he knew that vast improvements are possible politically. But he also knew that politics is not the final answer. It can't answer the deepest questions, actually. The only real solution is Jesus.” Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted Charlie's boldness and affirmation of marriage Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted Charlie Kirk's boldness. RUBIO: “Charlie Kirk was bold. He actively sought out to engage --peacefully, respectfully -- those who he disagreed with. As recently as two days ago, we learned of one of the hosts on CNN, who said that one of the messages he had gotten just a few days before Charlie's passing, was from him, inviting him to dialogue. “And he did this on campuses. He did this on podcasts. He did this on radio shows. He did this on television shows. Time and again, he sought to engage those he disagreed with because he understood that we were not created to isolate ourselves from one another, but to engage. “The irony in all this is that what our nation needs is the ability to discuss our differences openly, honestly, peacefully, respectfully. And Charlie Kirk did that more than anyone alive in America today is doing. This was the mission and work of Charlie Kirk.” And Secretary of State Rubio appreciated Charlie's affirmation of marriage and family to young people. RUBIO: “Understand where we are still today. In many places where young Americans are actively told that everything that they were taught, that all the foundations that made our society and our civilization so grand, they were all wrong. They were all evil, that marriage is oppressive, that children are a burden, that America is a source of evil, not of good, in the world. “And here was this voice that inspired a movement in which young Americans were told that is not true, the highest calling we are called to is to be in a successful marriage and to raise productive children.” War Secretary Hegseth: “Live worthy of Charlie Kirk's sacrifice and put Christ at the center” War Secretary Pete Hegseth explained that Charlie Kirk used the gift of persuasion on college campuses. HEGSETH: “Charlie waged war, not with a weapon, but with a tent, a microphone, his mind, and the truth. And the gates of hell could not prevail against him.” (Matthew 16:17-19) Secretary Hegseth spoke of Christian revival. HEGSETH: “Charlie started a political movement, but unleashed a spiritual revival. My pastor texted me the day after that horrific event and said, ‘Pete, the devil overplayed his hand.' Charlie started with liberty, but ended up lighting our country on fire for Christ. He started Turning Point USA, but this moment is the turning point for the USA.” And Secretary Hegseth gave America a charge in light of Charlie Kirk's Christian legacy. HEGSETH: “Charlie Kirk was a citizen who had the biblical heart of a soldier of the faith, who put on every single day the full armor of God (Ephesians 6) with a smile as the Scriptures tell all Christ followers to do. Charlie Kirk: a warrior for country, a warrior for Christ. He ran the race. He finished the fight. Now, it's our turn. My charge to all of you: Live worthy of Charlie Kirk's sacrifice and put Christ at the center of your life as he advocated for giving his.” Colossians 1:10 says, “Live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.” Donald Trump, Jr. compared Charlie Kirk's martyrdom with Stephen Donald Trump, Jr. compared the martyrdom of Stephen with the martyrdom of Charlie Kirk. TRUMP JR: “Last week, Charlie joined a long line of courageous men and women who were martyred for what they believe. According to the book of Acts, the first martyr in the early Christian church was Stephen who was stoned to death. And as Stephen was being killed, he said, ‘Behold, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing, standing, at the right hand of God.' “There are many times in the Bible where Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, but this is the only time he's seen standing. And while the Bible isn't explicit about this, I like to think Jesus was standing to welcome Stephen, the courageous martyr into Heaven. Today. that gives me great comfort because 11 days ago, as a cowardly assassin crawled on his stomach to end Charlie's life on Earth, I'm betting Charlie saw the son of God standing tall to welcome him home.” Vice President J.D. Vance admired Charlie Kirk's courage Vice President J.D. Vance shared that he's been personally emboldened to share his faith more since Kirk's assassination. VANCE: “You know, I was telling somebody backstage that I always felt a little uncomfortable talking about my faith in public as much as I loved the Lord and as much it was an important part of my life. I have talked more about Jesus Christ in the past two weeks than I have my entire time in public life.” (cheers) Vice President Vance is upset that some on the Left actually cheered Charlie Kirk's death. VANCE: “He was taken from us by those who despise the virtues that actually made our civilization great to begin with: dialogue, truth, seeking family and faith. In the wake of his death, we have seen some of the very worst parts of humanity. We have watched people slander him. We have watched people justify his murder and celebrate his death.” And Vice President Vance admired Charlie Kirk's courage. VANCE: “It is better to face a gunman than to live your life afraid to speak the truth. It is better to be persecuted for your faith than to deny the kingship of Christ. It is better to die a young man in this world than to sell your soul for an easy life with no purpose, no risk, no love, and no truth.” Joshua 1:9 says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Erika Kirk forgave her husband's killer And finally, Erika Kirk, Charlie's widow, who will now serve as the CEO of Turning Point USA, said something remarkable that brought all of us to our feet. ERIKA KIRK: “On the cross, our Savior said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.' (Luke 23:34) “That man, [Tyler Robinson], I forgive him. (applause as she wept) I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it's what Charlie would do. The answer to hate is not hate. The answer, we know from the Gospel, is love, always love. Love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us.” Ephesians 4:32 commands, “Forgive one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Monday, September 22nd, in the year of our Lord 2025. Jimmy Kimmel's commentary surrounding the assassination of Charlie Kirk was disturbing and inaccurate, but quite frankly not surprising. What was a surprise, however, was the outpouring of love and honor that many A list celebrities and social media influencers have shown in the days following Kirk's death on Sept. 10. “I disagreed with him on almost every point I ever heard him say, but I believe he was a man of faith,” actress Jamie Lee Curtis said of Kirk on the “WTF” podcast while choking back tears. “And I hope in that moment when he died that he felt connected to his faith.” Actor Chris Pratt shared a video prayer and then encouraged his followers to stop scrolling and instead get outside or call a friend. Singer Justin Bieber wrote about a spiritual battle for the mind in a post on Instagram after Kirk passed. Jeffree Star, social media influencer and creator of Jeffree Star Cosmetics was streaming live on social media when he found out Kirk had been shot. Immediately he condemned the shooting and spoke out in support of free speech. When Star received criticism from some of his followers for condemning the assassination, he was quick to respond. “Because I'm standing up for someone that passed away, I'm now being called names in the chat. This is what's wrong with a lot of you people. You will never get far in life. You are sick in the head,” Star shot back. Some who have spoken out in celebration of Kirk's death, or made highly controversial comments over the tragedy, have lost their jobs as a result. Charlie Rock, Carolina Panthers NFL communications staffer, lost his job for a social media post he made after Kirk's death. “Why are y'all sad? Your man said it was worth it,” Rock said. American Airlines fired a pilot who reportedly wrote on social media: “Well hey Charlie. Sorry you got shot in your fat f—— forehead. It was just the cost of our liberty. ‘Thoughts and prayers.'” And now, most notably, ABC suspended Kimmel's late-night show after the comedian made light of Kirk's assassination and inaccurately joked that the shooter was “MAGA.” “The MAGA gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said. Unlike Kimmel, the vast majority of Americans, including many celebrities, recognize that Kirk's assassination was evil and a dark moment in American history. This Sunday, tens of thousands of Americans will gather at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., for Kirk's memorial service and thousands more are expected to stream the ceremony live on Kirk's Rumble. Speakers at the memorial include President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk, will also speak and Christian worship artists Chris Tomlin, Brandon Lake, Phil Wickham, Kari Jobe Carnes, and Cody Carnes will perform. Enjoy the show! “The next generation will live into the words we speak over them, so we should consider what words we are speaking over Gen Z. We, older generations, are responsible for raising, stewarding, and discipling the next generation, and right now, they are hearing from us, “We don't like you.” - An excerpt from What Gen Z Really Wants to Know About God. We're in a bit of a tale as old as time moment. There is a lot of discussion about Gen Z - and a lot of it negative. Honestly this seems like a not uncommon issue where older generations speak negatively about younger generations, but there is something that does seem different about the conversation surrounding Gen Z. Gen Z is considered the first digital native generation and there is data to show a decline in church engagement in Gen Z. As I read from the excerpt earlier, there is a narrative in place that Gen Z is lazy, difficult, and weak. But what if we flipped the narrative? What if we approached Gen Z with hope and optimism, maybe even appreciation for what we can learn from them? Gen Z isn't just the future of the church, it's the church today so how can we think of and approach Gen Z differently than the prevailing narratives. My guest today is Dr. Tanita Maddox, national director at Young Life and author of the new book What Gen Z Really Wants to Know About God. In this conversation, we talk about who Gen Z is, how they think, the relationship between Gen Z and the church, and why we should not only be hopeful about Gen Z but even see them as a brave, resilient generation.
