Today, we share a story that is deeply moving, and this is not a sad story, I promise you that. This is a story of true resilience, overcoming and gratitude. And it will inspire you to appreciate every minute and afterwards, your heart will be full. Tracy Holmes lives in Greystones with her family. Her son Harry was born in 2018 and shortly afterwards, Tracy and her husband Andrew, decided to try for a second. Shocked, she discovered she was expecting twins. And when Theo and Freddie were born, Tracy was told Freddie has Down syndrome. What could have broken her made her see how strong she really is. One particular low day, it was an interaction with a lady who was cleaning in Crumlin hospital that changed everything for her. Then a sign from the universe cemented her hope even more. Freddie has defied all odds, he is changing the world with his spirit and determination, and once you listen to this podcast with Tracy, it isn't hard to see where he got it from. Solidarity WorksForty years ago this month, ten workers from the Henry Street branch of Dunnes Stores in Dublin's city centre went on strike to protest against the selling of produce from Apartheid South Africa. A year later, the group was joined by another worker, Brendan Barron, from the Crumlin store, bringing their number to eleven. The strike lasted for almost three years. I remember it well. I joined the picket line a few times and Sinn Féin and An Phoblacht were firm supporters of the Dunnes Store strikers. Their courageous stand led to the Dublin government banning South African goods from Irish stores. The strike followed a decision by the Irish Distributive and Administrative Union IDATU, now the Mandate union, not to handle South African produce. Release Leonard Peltier Earlier this month 79 year old native American indigenous activist Leonard Peltier was denied parole. He won't be eligible now for another parole hearing until June 2026. His legal team will appeal the decision.Leonard has consistently denied that he was responsible for killing of two FBI agents in 1975. His family and supporters are now deeply concerned that after almost 50 years in prison that Leonard will die there as his health has severely deteriorated in recent years. Lies and HypocrisyLies, hypocrisy, double standards, starvation, and the mass murder of civilians have been essential tools in the Israeli government's genocidal war against the Palestinian people. Some have also been a feature of the policies and propaganda employed by those governments allied to Israel's war strategy. Last week Russian missiles destroyed much of a children's hospital in Kyiv. A wave of other similar attacks took place against cities across the Ukraine. There was justifiable criticism of Russia which this column shares. Meanwhile the deliberate destruction of so-called ‘safe zones' in Gaza by Israeli bombers continues using armaments supplied by western powers. Over a hundred and fifty Palestinians are known to have been killed. Many hundreds more have been left grievously injured trapped in a place that has almost no medical facilities or resources.

This week, with Johnny's job count at 8 (or is it 7?), we reunited two old friends who met as teenagers with no idea of the journey that lay ahead. Padraig Amond was the hurler under a different name from Carlow with football ambitions. Eoin Doyle was a ‘lunatic' from Dublin with no idea that he could make a living from the game. But both these cats got the cream, one of them scoring versus Man City and the other playing for every club that wasn't in the Premier League. In our weirdest mailbag to date, the electronic telegrams are asking about the Pat Scully bus trip, Super Sundays with Paul Cook, flares of the non-trousered variety, and clock-watching on the pitch. The two lads delve into their formative years, from Crumlin days and Milk Cup adventures in the shadow of Anthony Stokes to learning the game with Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers. There's a £25 million deal, a couple of dumb country fellas and the pros and cons of making it as a latecomer. Late developers may be on topic this week, but after listening to what we've gotten for you in conjunction with Rascals, Future Ticketing and Collar & Cuff, like the crowds so far, we're way ahead of the curve.

SIRO Invests €100 Million In Dublin Gigabit Broadband Expansion

Irish Tech News Audio Articles

SIRO, the ESB and Vodafone joint venture company currently rolling out a €1 billion Gigabit broadband network across Ireland, has announced that its services are now available to 50,000 homes and businesses in Dublin City, and to 100,000 premises overall across the wider Dublin area. The €100 million rollout is part of a strategy to make services powered by SIRO available to areas underserved by fibre to the home broadband. The expansion in the capital follows close collaboration with Dublin City Council's Telecoms Unit and with the broadband officers in the other three Dublin local authorities to advance its Dublin network roll-out. Within Dublin City Council's borders this includes 'new' SIRO areas such as Dublin's Docklands, East Wall, Walkinstown, Kimmage and Crumlin. SIRO's network is already well established in other parts of the city such as Fairview, Raheny, Finglas, Artane or Coolock. This is in addition to SIRO's expanded network footprint across the four Dublin local authority areas, which now encompasses more than 30 suburban towns from Balbriggan in Fingal as far south as Shankill in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown. SIRO plans to continue to build across Dublin city and county where other commercial opportunities exist. Lord Mayor of Dublin, Daithí de Róiste noted: "This is a really positive investment for Dublin, and I am delighted that the City Council have been able to support SIRO in the delivery of this essential digital infrastructure particularly in areas such as East Wall, Docklands. Kimmage and Crumlin. We need to ensure that all of our communities have access to high quality broadband services and are not left behind as the adoption of new technologies and digital services continue to accelerate." SIRO John Keaney Chief Executive Officer, noted: "The presumption that our cities already enjoy universal full fibre connectivity can be inaccurate. Poor broadband can exist in areas of our cities and its suburbs, just as much as it can be found in more remote areas. "Yet, future-proofed and reliable fibre connectivity is key to the economic life of our capital city and in all the communities which make up its constituent parts. "SIRO is rolling out our network across Dublin, city and county, because a real need exists to address existing connectivity blackspots. By now reaching areas underserved by fibre to the home broadband, such as the Docklands, East Wall or Crumlin and Walkinstown, we are striving to ensure these areas have the broadband infrastructure essential for the future wider social and economic development of the city," added Mr. Keaney. Smart City Program Manager at Dublin City Council, Jamie Cudden stated: "Investments like this from SIRO support our ambition to future-proof Dublin ensuring that we can take advantage of new and emerging technology trends. When we established our Telecoms Unit in 2022, we committed to work with the telecoms sector to help streamline and accelerate network rollout through better co-ordination and collaboration. The real winners here are communities across Dublin who will have access to world class digital infrastructure and choice of providers." SIRO is a joint venture between ESB and Vodafone, formed in 2015, to roll out a new full fibre broadband network across Ireland. To date, SIRO has rolled out network to every county in Ireland with its broadband network in over 135 towns and cities and available to almost 550,000 homes and businesses nationwide. The company is on track to reach 700,000 premises by 2026. More about Irish Tech News Irish Tech News are Ireland's No. 1 Online Tech Publication and often Ireland's No.1 Tech Podcast too. In the first episode of Season 2 Trina and Sarah speak with Janet O'Brien, an amazingly courageous and resilient woman who lost her son Luke to a one-punch assault in Tallaght, South West Dublin on Halloween night 2017. His killer, 21 year old Jack Hall Ellis of Lismore Road in Crumlin, a childhood friend of Luke, punched him in his words “in drunkenness and anger” on the old Blessington Road after they left a pub. 13 days later Luke who was just 20 lost his fight for life in hospital from the injuries to his brain that he sustained when he hit his head on the ground as a result of the punch. Hall Ellis had downed up to ten double shots rum that night the court heard after he pleaded guilty in 2019 to the unlawful killing of Luke O' Brien O'Reilly and he was jailed for five years. Before his release from prison late last year Luke's mother Janet met her son's killer as part of the Restorative Justice Process, something she sought out herself, it has to be stressed. During that meeting she showed Hall Ellis a photograph of her son as he fought for his life in hospital during those last days. Janet has kindly agreed to tell us her painful story , she believes one punch assaults should carry a minimum sentence and she would encourage more people to avail of restorative justice.IF YOU HAVE BEEN IMPACTED BY ANY OF THE ISSUES IN THE EPISODE YOU CAN CALL THE CRIME VICTIM'S HELPINE (crimevictimshelpline.ie) Freephone 116006Or go to Home - Restorative Justice to find out more Hosted on Acast. “Some fellas are afraid of nothing, and some fellas are afraid of getting a clatter. And some fellas are not afraid until they get a clatter! Then they realise.” We're back with Part 2 of If Walls Could Talk, a special double episode of The Rocky Road with Philip Sutcliffe from Crumlin Boxing Club. Plug the imagination back in and let Sucko guide you around one of Ireland's most successful schools of sport. There are stories about Crumlin fighters like Dean Byrne and Jamie Kavanagh, and a few about Katie Taylor who regularly dropped in for sparring down through the years. Philip tells us about his two Olympic Games as a young boxer, Moscow 1980 and Los Angeles 1984 (with a mix-up about his admittedly elegant green team blazer thrown in) and telling The Greates, Muhammad Ali, where to go – in true Dublin fashion – when the heavyweight icon called him a ‘leprechaun' and asked him to sit on his lap. Conor McGregor, perhaps Crumlin's most famous pupil, looms large over the building and you can hear Sutcliffe's pride when speaking about his achievements in the Octagon and even in the ring. It's not all about the superstar names though, and Philip is most animated when speaking about the boxing family, or when boxing breaks your heart when talented young fighters go down the wrong road towards crime and drugs. Luckily, more are saved than are lost, a source of obvious pride for the boxing people of Ireland. Finally, Crumlin BC has been a leader in the rolling-out of the High Five Boxing Academy for those with additional needs and, as ever, Sutcliffe is centrally involved, encouraging and cajoling and bringing out the best in people. We've something different this week as we kick off a new feature called ‘If Walls Could Talk'. On one of my visits to the boxing gym it struck me that I'd love to hear the stories behind the pictures and headlines that are stuck on the wall. It applies to most gyms in the country, so where better to start than in the capital's Crumlin boxing club with the storyteller that is Phil Sutcliffe. They're all here, from novices to world champions, volunteers to Olympic gold medallists. We discuss family and fighters, those still punching and those who are no longer with us. Some of the fighters have gone down the wrong road over the years, gotten involved in gangs, while others are soldiers, prison officers and Gardai. Many are massive names in their own separate fields – such as Daniel Day Lewis, who trained here to prepare for The Boxer in the 90s, or MMA's Conor McGregor who grew up fighting out of the place and is still a frequent visitor. ‘So many names', says Phil, who says he'd ‘only take a bullet for Madonna if she paid me enough'! This is Part 1 of If Walls Could Talk, from Crumlin Boxing Club. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

How Haunted? Podcast | Horrible Histories, Real Life Ghost Stories, and Paranormal Investigations from Some of the Most Haunt

The only Victorian era prison still standing in the city of Belfast in Northern Ireland, was once known as Europe's Alcatraz. Dating from 1845, this was a place of incarceration and execution. It closed in 1996 and ever since visitors have reported all manner of paranormal occurrences such as things moving of their own accord, voices from empty cells, and ghosts have been seen and photographed.  It is considered one of the most haunted placed in this capital city, but is it worthy of such a reputation? Tonight, join me as we dare to enter the empty, silent prison of Crumlin Road Gaol. Huge thanks to Jenny Boanca for telling me all about her visit to the haunted prison in this episode.
