Brian worries to Stella about access into the field for Thursday's ploughing match at Home Farm. The Bull will be handling the catering. Brian's entered Stella for the ‘Ladies Cup', a term she objects to, competing against Ruth. But Stella isn't keen on promoting such an outdated farming practice. Later at Brookfield, Stella catches up with Ruth and repeats her stance on ploughing and use of the word ‘Ladies'. Ruth's more sanguine about it and shows Stella an article online about pioneering ploughwomen in the fifties. Stella thinks the pictures look amazing and loves Ruth's idea of dressing up in vintage clothing on the day of the match. Alice appears unexpectedly at Little Grange to get Emma to sign a permission form for Keira's riding. Flustered Emma does so, then confesses how angry and disappointed she is with George, before breaking down. Sympathetic Alice – drawing on techniques that helped her through addiction - suggests a coping mechanism. Then she tells Emma about Chris writing to her when she was in Rehab, with news about Martha and local gossip. Perhaps Emma could write to George about Apple Day? Alice has already promised Keira that she's going. After clearing access into the field Brian has lunch with Alice at The Bull. She tells him about seeing Emma, though Brian can't understand why she bothered. But for Alice, reaching out to the Grundys feels like part of her recovery. Besides, she knows what it's like being separated from your child and feeling it's your fault. Brian has to admit, Alice is a better woman than he is.

Chelsea and Fallon are working at The Tearoom, with Adam and Natasha lending a hand. To Chelsea's annoyance Natasha then asks her to train Adam to use the coffee machine. Later, Chelsea helps Adam source bunting and decorations for the school Halloween disco he's helping Ian organise. At the end of the day Chelsea admits how awkward she found it working with Adam. He sensed it, but reckons his shifts in the Tearoom shouldn't happen too often in future.Kirsty comes across a pensive Clarrie at Bridge Farm and confides how strapped for cash Rewilding Ambridge is, especially after losing a wealthy potential sponsor last week. Clarrie admits how much she's missing George – and how awkward it is talking to Fallon. Kirsty takes Clarrie's hand and promises to support her as they enter The Tearoom. Kirsty accepts Adam's offer of a chai latte he's been working on, while Clarrie tentatively exchanges pleasantries and then invites Fallon and Harrison to the Apple Day event next week. Fallon says she's busy then and Clarrie leaves. However, Fallon follows Clarrie out to say she appreciates the invitation and Clarrie's kind words, but she really would find going to Apple Day too much right now.Adam tells Chelsea he still can't forgive the Grundys for what George did and its repercussions, but Chelsea points out how wretched George felt about it too. Then Fallon surprises them both with the news that she's been selected to run one of the units at the EV Station, before heading off to hand in her notice to Natasha.

Helen's at Bridge Farm, dropping Jack off for Pat to take to school, when Neil arrives. He's taking a week off work at Berrow, but can't bear the idea of doing nothing, so offers to help out at Bridge Farm instead. Grateful Helen sends him off on a task just as Kirsty turns up. While Helen toasts bagels Kirsty bemoans how difficult it is trying to get a mortgage for Willow Farm. Helen then suggests Kirsty could either sell the Beechwood house or move in with Helen and the boys, at least temporarily, but Kirsty can't imagine ever living there again.Clarrie spots Neil working and threatens to tell Susan about his turn yesterday, if he doesn't make an appointment with the GP. Then Pat talks to Clarrie about the possibility of keeping goats for meat, in connection with a school project Henry's doing, before moving onto Apple Day. Overriding Clarrie's doubts about the Grundys holding such a public event Pat thinks it could be just what the family needs to bring them together. If Pat can get away she'd love to bring Jack, Henry, Nova and Seren along. Then Clarrie confides her concerns about Neil. Later, Pat encourages Neil to take a break and talks to Helen about the dangers, particularly for men, of keeping stressful feelings bottled up inside. When Helen seeks him out Neil confides how hard it's been for the family, coping with the fallout from George's actions and imprisonment. Helen mentions the benefits of counselling, only for Neil to gently but firmly resist the idea, before heading off.

Tom apologises to Helen for passing on the news about Rob dying, and how people kept talking to her about it at Brian's party. Helen insists it doesn't matter. They talk about the effect it's had on Henry and Jack. Helen is more concerned about Jack, particularly with Lee having moved out so recently too. Helen feels guilty, as the boys loved Lee so much. Helen then offers to let delighted Henry order pizza and some other treats for dinner. She hopes Tom doesn't think she's a bad mother for bailing out of cooking, but he's fine with it. Later, Henry tells Helen he overheard her conversation with Tom and thinks she did the right thing splitting up with Lee. Despite missing Lee Henry assures Helen both him and Jack will be okay. They share a warm moment, before Helen promises she will try and organise tickets for them to see a football match in Paris. Stella tells Ed they can't let him graze his sheep at Home Farm. Ed understands the reasons why, but cannot hide his disappointment. Later, in The Bull with Adam, Ian and Stella, Ed gives vent to his true feelings about how unfair life is: the rich get richer and the poor, like the Grundys, end up struggling to survive. It's not right. Ian's still thinking about Adil's attempt to persuade him to stay on at Grey Gables. Adam thinks he should, as he clearly wants to. Ian agrees, but only so long as he's got Adam's support.

She then decides to see Oliver herself, finding him at the shoot, entertaining the hotel's partners. Oliver appreciates her visit, but he'd have preferred Ed to come himself. On her return Emma's annoyed that Ed and Eddie still haven't talked about patching things up with Oliver. Eddie believes Oliver's set on erasing a piece of Grundy history. Emma says to look to the future, but Eddie can only see developers on the horizon and no space for the Grundys. Eddie rounds on Emma, her family is sorted when it comes to inheritance. But with Oliver, the Grundys have no rights whatsoever. Helen updates Joy on Jack wanting to see Rob. She doesn't think Jack even knows what he'd say if he met Rob. But Jack keeps coming back to: Henry saw Rob, so why can't he? As Helen talks about the pros and cons of a meeting, Henry appears. He's cross that Helen's even considering it and calls her a liar. Hannah explains she'll have to move because she can't find anywhere to live near Ambridge. Stella mentioned she had a spare room, but it's not hers to rent out. Denise encourages Hannah to get Stella to ask Brookfield. Later, Hannah calls on Stella and, after some stalling, asks about the spare room. Stella can't believe Hannah was nervous about asking. She will give it serious consideration and run it past David and Ruth. Alistair bangs on the door at The Stables, complaining about the noisy party inside. To his surprise Denise answers. She shouts to Paul for the music to be turned down. Alistair has been meaning to stop by to say hello. Denise teases him gently. Alistair suggests they try out the Grundys' Halloween Trail. They have a great time. Alistair recounts how he received a ring token with the barmbrack Eddie gave him the other week. He thinks it's all rubbish, but Denise is less dismissive. Denise passes Alistair another helping of barmbrack, but declines to have one herself. When he gets another ring token Denise thinks Alistair's fate is sealed. Alistair changes the subject to Denise's work placement. It's coming to an end, but Denise says she'll find something else to save usurping Paul, who's benefitted from working at the vets. Harrison tells busy Fallon he bumped into Lynda. She still has concerns about the fete. The Grundys have thrown out many of the initial ideas and Joy has no idea what's replaced them. Eddie and co are even having private meetings about it. Fallon doesn't see the problem, as long as there is a fete. She thinks Eddie should be allowed to have a tilt at it. If it's a disaster, then everyone will know who to blame. Harrison tells Fallon later that when he called Lynda to let her know Fallon's quitting the committee, Lynda declared the idea of letting Eddie dig himself a hole was a very good one. Will, Ed and Emma chat about George. Will says George was really upset by Hannah's gossiping, but when Ed points out George's misogyny, Emma thinks Hannah would do anything to save herself. Will's not so sure about it all after talking to Neil. Ed expands that Berrow is just the latest in a line of ‘George situations'. They agree they all want what's best for George and need to help him now, before it's too late. But George is defensive when they try to talk to him, and things escalate when Ed lets slip that Emma helped get George's Bridge Farm work. George tells them they're pathetic - Will couldn't even get his wife back when she was shagging Ed behind his back. When he calls Emma a slut, she slaps him. George storms out.

With the fate of The Ambridge Mystery Plays hanging in the balance, Lynda orders Kirsty to call Hilary Noakes to find out if she was behind the reporting of Brookfield's cows to an animal welfare charity. Kirsty tries to stall Lynda with discussion of costumes for extras but Lynda isn't put off and dials Hilary's number. Alan is frustrated by Usha's lack of concern for his speech for the Operation Borsetshire Benevolence fundraiser. He's under pressure to redeem himself after the GIF of him drunk at the Grundys' vow renewal. Usha agrees to listen to him rehearse in return for not going to an after service drinks with him. Usha isn't impressed with Alan's speech – he's not the best person to talk about quality time with nearest and dearest when he's too busy even to notice Usha and Amy's Christmas preparations. Alan's shocked when she calls him a hypocrite and announces she's spending Christmas with her brother Shiv. Later, Usha kisses Alan goodbye before leaving for Shiv's along with Amy. Lynda and Kirsty celebrate regaining Brookfield for the Mystery Plays. Kirsty's call to Hilary revealed she'd been a puppet of Evangeline Lowminster in making the complaint about the state of Brookfield's cows. And when they filled in Ruth, she was hugely apologetic for jumping to the wrong conclusion last week. Energised by this success they turn their efforts to getting costumes made for all the additional extras. Once again Lynda delegates to Kirsty – she needs to tell Clarrie about the extra effort this will require.

While on the look-out for trespassers, David spots someone hiding in a ditch. But it turns out to be Eddie who says he’s scouting for holly and mistletoe. Eddie points out the evidence of more digging on Brookfield land which infuriates David. David finds a metal detector in a hedge and Eddie feigns innocence. When he gets back home, Eddie tells Will that David’s handing the metal detector in to the police – it shouldn’t be traceable though as it’s really old. Eddie’s volunteered himself, Will and Ed to help keep a lookout at Brookfield for any more rogue detectorists. Will can’t believe it but Eddie’s sure it’ll lead to a reward for the Grundys. Philip forces Gavin to go to a Gamblers Anonymous meeting with Kirsty. Outside the meeting, Kirsty is sympathetic when Gavin shows that he’s not keen to go in. Gavin tells her that he just wants to be himself and that he doesn’t have a gambling problem… any more, he quickly adds. The pressure Philip’s business is under has made him stop and think. Kirsty’s happy for them just to head home but Gavin thinks his dad will blow a gasket. Kirsty thinks that maybe it’s time for Gavin to show Philip it’s his life.

Adam organises those who have come to help with the cherry harvest. Brian is overseeing them all. The Grundys are running the transport and the cooler. Ed was nervous when he arrived but he shook hands with Adam. Ian is also picking cherries while Adam spends the day with Xander. Adam thinks he’s got the easy side of the deal but then quickly realises entertaining Xander is hard work and messy! But he’s had a good time with his son nonetheless. Debbie is happy she spoke to Chris, any concerns she had about Alice have been put to rest. She feels that being separated from her family makes the need to fix everything much stronger. She thinks she’s been trying to prove how responsible she is ever since she quit her degree because of Simon Gerrard. Debbie enjoys speaking to Roger, she hadn’t realised how much she misses him. Later, Debbie muses on how chaotic the Aldridges can be and it’s Jennifer that holds them together. She wants to keep up her reconnection with Roger. She passes on her update on Roger to Adam which Adam is pleased to hear. Adam is grateful to Brian for his help with cherry harvest – and he’s no better than Brian when it comes to fidelity. Adam recognises the madness of the Aldridge family but that somehow it works.

Content with his semi-retired status, Brian doesn’t envy Adam running Home Farm and juggling family time. He’s surprised Adam didn’t mention his trouble finding cherry pickers. Brian visits Grange Farm and recruits Eddie, Clarrie, Ed, Will and Emma for the cherry harvest. Brian’s pleased to see Eddie looks happy after the year the Grundys have had with Will. Alice also helps with picking, persuaded by Chris. Alice tells Adam she’s pulled a sickie with Pryce Baumann. She wants to come up with a plan for her future before she tells her family she no longer has a job. After talking to Jennifer, Debbie video calls Alice. She’s relieved both Jennifer and Brian are healthy. She wonders whether Jennifer would have been happier staying with Roger and feels bad for not staying in better contact with Roger herself. Over a call, Alice has a lot to say about why she has left Pryce Baumann. Debbie notices that Alice was drinking a lot of wine and calls Chris to check that Alice is OK. Alice reflects on why she talked so much, reasoning that she had no choice but to quit after she was threatened with the sack. But she worries that Pryce Baumann may not give her a reference and it’s not a good time to find employment. Meanwhile, Chris thinks Alice looks peaceful and like the girl he married ten years ago. He reassures Debbie that Alice has done the right thing - and he likes a drink as much as she does. Chris feels the effects of their drinking last night but Alice looks great and stress-free. Chris’s sculpture commission for a new baby has changed from an oak to a birch tree. Chris wonders if this time next year he and Alice might have a child of their own.

Lucy is picking up high level BBC intelligence from secret drops in Epping Forest whilst she is recording Walky Talky. These drops includes this week’s DumTeeDum from Doha. Lucy then gets the order of the podcast wrong (twice) this week and Roifield leaves her apparent confusion in the final version. 20 year listener comedian Chris Neill then keeps Lucy in painful stitches (she had just been to pilates) for some 20 minutes as they discuss the ins and outs of our favourite programme. Chris first remembers listening to the death of John Archer. If he joined the cast Chris would like to live with the Grundys at Grange Farm and have a go on Tom should the opportunity arise. For the record Sean’s partner at the Cat and Fiddle was called Peter. Lucy then did the Bartleby not Joe joke! She then explains the Archer family tree to Chris as they are all related really, but they get sidelined over Peggy. I think I should confirm that Jack and Phil Archer were brothers, which is how they are all related. Anthea... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

He wasn't an archers fan but did listen along when I played dum tee dum. He was thrilled to be mentioned and that it'll be in the archives for me to look back on. This is Dumteedum the show about the reality docu-drama that is centered on Ambridge in the heart of the Midlands.
