At the Tearoom downbeat Emma tells Natasha she heard some of the Roserran crowd made disparaging remarks about yesterday's cricket tea, knowing it came from Bridge Farm, home of the sewage leak. But Emma's bad mood is more to do with it being the anniversary of George crashing Alice's car. Natasha is very sympathetic, but later tells Emma they need to up their game with the cricket teas.Phoning from the police station Usha gives Joy details of Rochelle's arrest, explaining that potentially the charges could be very serious. Despite the mention of terrorism Mick tries playing down Joy's fears, suggesting they go for breakfast at the Tearoom. Without her mobile Joy insists on staying home in case Usha rings back. At the Tearoom Mick compares Emma's situation with George to Joy's with Rochelle, both standing by their errant child. He understands it now, where he didn't before. At the police station Usha cautions Rochelle against a “no comment” approach. Rochelle is fully committed to the cause, having been told the charges probably won't stick. She accuses Usha of bleeding heart vegetarianism, quoting Saskia, who's dismissive of people who don't take action. Usha spells out the risk of Rochelle ending up in prison and the effect it could have on her children. Rochelle agrees to at least think about a defence based on non-violent action and trying to minimise harm on the day. Later, Usha tells Joy that Rochelle will be in court tomorrow. They agree Rochelle's stubborn and impassioned, but at least Rochelle's now working with Usha, not against her.
This week on the podcast, we're joined by Kristin Reese, the executive director of the Mono Arts Council. Kristin shares her journey and dedication to promoting creativity in the Eastern Sierra region of California. In our conversation, she outlines the Mono Arts Council's evolution, emphasizing its shift toward arts education. Kristin believes that every child in Mono County should have access to the arts, and she discusses the numerous initiatives aimed at making that happen. Having grown up in the Eastern Sierra, Kristin developed a passion for the performing arts early on, influenced by her family of artists, musicians, and dancers. After earning her Bachelor of Arts in music from Sonoma State University, she felt the pull to return to her roots. Once back, she co-founded the Sierra Classic Theatre in 1999 and later worked at the Edisto Gallery & Tea Room, where she connected with local artists. Now at the helm of the Mono Arts Council, Kristin is committed to ensuring arts education is a priority for all K-12 students in the region. She highlights the positive impact of arts education on students, noting how it can improve test scores and attendance while also supporting mental health and social-emotional learning. The Council also runs several adult programs, like Art & Wine and the MAC Gallery & Community Arts Center, creating platforms for local artists to showcase their work. With her background in music and a deep love for the arts, Kristin aims to strengthen connections within the local arts community and inspire the next generation of creators.Links mentioned in this episode: ArterialArtsvilleUSAFirst Friday ExhibitionsMono Arts CouncilMono Arts Council on FacebookMono Arts Council on InstagramNOT REAL ARTNOT REAL ART PodcastRemote Video SeriesScott “Sourdough” PowerFor more information, please visit https://notrealart.com/mono-arts-council-kristin-reese/

At the Tearoom, before the pancake eating competition starts, Zainab tells relieved Akram she was never going to take a job at The Bull. Brad meanwhile isn't feeling great, following his starvation diet. Natasha introduces Zainab and Brad in boxing-match style with ridiculous nicknames, but then Brad collapses to the floor. Later, while embarrassed Brad recovers, Natasha desperately tries to find a replacement, but it doesn't look promising. Before setting off in the Riley Jazzer confesses how anxious he is about going to this posh restaurant. Tracy susses he's more upset about not going to the pancake event, but she's not changing her mind. However, Tracy then gets a call telling her what's happened to Brad. By the time Tracy and Jazzer reach The Tearoom people have started drifting away. Tracy insists on taking Brad off to feed him up – she's already cancelled the meal with Susan and Neil. Seeing Natasha's desperation Jazzer offers to take Brad's place, but quickly changes his mind when he sees Tracy's face. With a load of uneaten pancakes left on her hands Natasha has no choice but to offer them free to all comers.Back at Ambridge Hall Akram cajoles Zainab into making up with Azra, instead of fighting all the time. Zainab feels bad about the books and photos that were ruined by the sewage, but Adil has found replacements for some of the photographs at least, which Akram has brought back with him. When asked about moving back to Solihull Zainab admits she'd like to give Ambridge a try for a little longer yet.
At No.6 The Green Jazzer moans to Brad about the posh dinner Tracy's making him go to with Susan and Neil. But Brad has other things on his mind, including the pancake eating competition. Jazzer would far rather go to that, but Tracy refuses to change their dinner date to let him do both. Brad then tells jealous Jazzer he'll fast before the competition to make sure he beats Zainab. The prize is as good as his.Akram fills Azra in on how Adil is doing in Pakistan, then outlines some ideas to get his business up and running. They share happy memories of biking together, before Azra shocks him with news about Zainab wanting to work in a pub. Later, they consider the idea of moving back to Solihull, amongst old friends. Azra confesses that, despite the sewage spill, they feel settled in Ambridge. She thinks Akram might grow to like it there too. Despite Emma's best efforts the Tearoom has been dead all day. Both Pat and Emma hope Natasha's punt on getting customers back with the pancake competition works. Pat's frustrated that not many people have signed her petition about the sewage overspill. Emma suggests drumming up a bigger response with a media blitz. Later, Emma shows Pat the work she's been doing online to publicise the petition, using photos of damage at Bridge Farm and adding links to the Borsetshire Clean Water Action Group. Even better, Emma then gets an invite for an interview on Radio Borsetshire – at last, an opportunity for their voices to be heard!
Frustrated Natasha thinks Emma's wasting her time pursuing the water company when she should be focusing her efforts increasing footfall at the Tearoom. Later she apologises for being snippy, admitting she's worried. They're losing money and it's demoralising. She's pleased to see Kirsty, joking she's at least one paying customer. Kirsty wonders whether Natasha and Tom have had a chance to progress the house purchase. Natasha promises they'll all sit down together soon. Her priority currently is getting the business back on a firm footing. Emma suggests a Pancake Day initiative, and after some debate they settle on a pancake eating contest. What have they got to lose? Azra confides to Lynda there's no chance they'll be back in their own house in time for Ramadan – the house smells and the utility room is still damp. Kirsty reports she's got a professional company in to clean her house. They're doing a complete refit. She can't afford to wait, she just needs the house sold. Later Azra explains to interested Lynda how she manages her and the family's fasting arrangements, admitting that this year will be particularly challenging with all the stress of the house. Lynda suggests contacting Justin to see if he can advise on who should take responsibility for the sewage issues. Meanwhile she offers Azra the use of her kitchen as much as she needs it – she and Robert will work round her. In a moment of inspiration Lynda offers to fast alongside Azra so that they're synchronised.
In this episode, we discuss the power of embracing "no pressure," a simple meal prep to make your days easy, and a really fun new band.
The pressure mounts on the Tearoom, and Robert offers a solution.

Welcome back to another episode of the Hard Knocks Sorority Podcast Chummers. This is a 4th edition shadowrun actual play GM'd by myself, Paul, and driven forward rather noncommittally by Veronika as Cecile, aka College Girl, Kat as Diendre, Val as Ali aka Boxer, and Beth as Grace aka Nightingale. This is episode 9 of season 2 and it takes place in possibly my favorite location and situation of this game. I'm speaking of course of good old "Olga's Tearoom" in Tacoma, and Diendres fan club. Family and friends prepare the Tearoom ready for Pat and Tony's 50th Wedding Anniversary party. Tony's had the task of keeping the surprise from Pat, and she's delighted when she gets there. She can't believe that Tony managed to keep it a secret from her. When Mick congratulates Tony on his long marriage, Tony says that he and Pat have weathered many storms, but he wouldn't have wanted to go through them with anyone else. Talk turns to Mick staying at Joy's, with Mick explaining that it's only over Christmas and then they'll see. But he's enjoying the home comforts and being with Joy of course. Tony reckons Jolene and Kenton will be rooting for them – they probably can't wait to get his old campervan off their car park! Elsewhere Joy chats to Tom and Natasha saying it's a shame Helen's moving out from next door to her. When Natasha says what a great house it is, Joy suggests that Tom and Natasha move in. Joy heads off to mingle and Natasha points out to Tom that they can't rent forever; Seren and Nova deserve a bigger house. Tom admits that's he's tempted.Later Pat thanks Tony for a wonderful evening and they reminisce about their early days. And now with a thriving farm and Helen and Tom ready to take it forward for their children, it's not a bad legacy. They kiss. Looking on Mick and Joy comment that it just goes to show that if you find the right person, you need to hold on to them tightly.
As Ruth and David mend a fence someone whizzes past them in the lane. David reckons it was Leonard on his electric bike, as the person was wearing the same high viz gear. The roads are icy and David worries that Leonard might come off his bike, so he jumps into his car to catch up with him. But when David returns, he sheepishly admits that he mistakenly followed a scooter. Then Zainab appears demanding to know what David was doing. When David explains why, she calms down. Zainab reckons that she saw Leonard driving erratically near the village. Later Leonard's upset when David and Ruth have a word with him. He wonders if they think he's past it and likely to wobble off his bike into a ditch. Leonard may be less mobile than he was, but there's plenty of adventure left in him yet.Ed visits Emma at the Tearoom on his way to sort a tree job with Brian. Emma admits that every time a customer comes in, she wonders if they're the one who complained about her being on the Parish Council. Ed suggests that she resigns as it might not be worth the the hassle. But Emma's defensive; she's good at it and she enjoys it. Later Emma wonders if it was Brian who made the complaint and Ed reluctantly agrees to see what he can find out. Later Brian explains that he can't countenance the way Emma covered up a crime. And that does call into question her judgement justifying a complaint to the Parish Council. But it wasn't him.

While Brad tries to study at The Tearoom, Chelsea moans about a group staying on past closing time. Then a stranger, Zainab, comes in and Chelsea refuses to serve her, before Brad's coffee gets spilled over Zainab's top. Zainab accepts a coffee as compensation before Natasha mentions they need to close up, but tells Zainab to wait inside until they're done. Brad then wraps his scarf around Zainab's shoulders to keep her warm, while Chelsea tells Natasha to go and pick up the twins, she'll finish off and lock up. Later, after they've finished, Chelsea thanks Brad and Zainab for helping. Zainab offers Brad his scarf back, but he tells her to keep it before going. Zainab offers a lift on her scooter and in return Chelsea offers to do Zainab's eyebrows and eyelashes at Chelsea's house tomorrow after work. A new friendship is born. While helping Helen restock the shop Adam asks if there's more juggling of staff in prospect. But what he really wants is reassurance that he's done the right thing ordering spooky decorations for the school disco. Later, over a glass of wine, Adam suggests Helen could buy Kirsty's Beechwood house if she really wants to help her, an idea Helen warms to while looking over the decorations Adam's bought. One thing though, Helen checks that Ian told Adam it's called ‘Spooky Day' – and more specifically it's a ‘Spooky Disco'? Adam is horrified when Helen outlines the problem some parents and schools have with the word Halloween – it is all over the bunting Adam bought.
Chelsea and Fallon are working at The Tearoom, with Adam and Natasha lending a hand. To Chelsea's annoyance Natasha then asks her to train Adam to use the coffee machine. Later, Chelsea helps Adam source bunting and decorations for the school Halloween disco he's helping Ian organise. At the end of the day Chelsea admits how awkward she found it working with Adam. He sensed it, but reckons his shifts in the Tearoom shouldn't happen too often in future.Kirsty comes across a pensive Clarrie at Bridge Farm and confides how strapped for cash Rewilding Ambridge is, especially after losing a wealthy potential sponsor last week. Clarrie admits how much she's missing George – and how awkward it is talking to Fallon. Kirsty takes Clarrie's hand and promises to support her as they enter The Tearoom. Kirsty accepts Adam's offer of a chai latte he's been working on, while Clarrie tentatively exchanges pleasantries and then invites Fallon and Harrison to the Apple Day event next week. Fallon says she's busy then and Clarrie leaves. However, Fallon follows Clarrie out to say she appreciates the invitation and Clarrie's kind words, but she really would find going to Apple Day too much right now.Adam tells Chelsea he still can't forgive the Grundys for what George did and its repercussions, but Chelsea points out how wretched George felt about it too. Then Fallon surprises them both with the news that she's been selected to run one of the units at the EV Station, before heading off to hand in her notice to Natasha.

Some histories are lost with time, but remnants of their existence remain. Off an unmarked trail within the park, sits an old abandoned cabin that in its hay day was a popular place for tourists to visit. It was once filled with people from around the world, coming to see Anna Wolfsdrom's famous Tea Room for themselves. Anna managed to open a hugely successful business in a time it was not common for women to do so, but she didn't stop there. Adam's outraged to learn about Will and Emma covering for George. He's glad they were arrested, but can't trust himself to be around Will, so Pat will have to work something out at Bridge Farm. Susan warns Will that Adam's not happy and doesn't want to work with either of them. But Susan's glad Will's told Poppy and Keira everything. Susan suggests a family day at the Flower and Produce show, but Will can't face it. And when he starts worrying about how George would cope in prison, Susan does her best to reassure him. There's a staffing crisis at Bridge Farm, with Tom concerned by Emma calling in sick again at the Tearoom. Having seen Emma out working yesterday he wonders just how ill she can be. And now Clarrie's been called away as well, to look after her sister Rosie in Great Yarmouth. Pat's grateful to Susan for stepping up and cuts through the small talk to try and see how Susan's really doing. Pat's heard about Emma and Will via Lilian. Susan is apologetic, but just wants to focus on work to distract her from thinking about George and how everything has gone so badly wrong. Tom goes to see Emma and talks about Fallon. Emma says she can't face Fallon, plus there's the stress of worrying about George and what will happen to the kids if she gets sent to prison. Tom understands her concern, then encourages her to meet up with him and Fallon – he has an idea. If Fallon's willing to meet, says Emma, then so is she.

At the Tearoom, Paul's surprised to see Fallon looking so well after her drunken night out last week. That is until Fallon explains that she spent most of yesterday in bed at Kirsty's. But now she feels like a reset button has been pressed and is feeling much better about everything. When Fallon notices Paul looking a bit uncomfortable, he says he's fine. But later when Kirsty asks him if he's got fleas or something, he brushes it off as sunburn. Later, Fallon starts to get flashbacks from her night out – and Kirsty's forced to remind her of rapping and being thrown out of the club. Although Fallon's embarrassed, it was also just what she needed, and she now feels she's drawn a bit of a line. And Harrison seems much happier in himself too. Fallon was dreading her birthday, but now she's looking forward to it with Harrison.Justin mentions to Fallon that there's been no further cases of Strangles at The Stables. Things are still fraught there though with Oliver's horse still struggling. Justin's worried about Lilian which is why he's insisted she take a lunch break. When Lilian talks about how stressed she is, Justin broaches finding a replacement for Alice. Lilian's defensive, pointing out that alcoholism is a disease. And anyway Alice didn't do anything wrong, any horse can get Strangles. Justin concedes that they do at least need to look at the practicalities. He'll compromise by sounding out a few potential replacements on a no obligation basis, just so they're prepared for the worst. Lilian agrees as long as Justin's discreet.

Chris questions Alice's judgement, and not everyone is happy with the new look in the Tearoom.

Tony shares with Vince and Natasha what a nice time in Paris Helen and the boys had. He also checks Vince's opinion of the refreshed Tea Room. Vince is positive – it's the second best tea room in Borsetshire. Natasha is put out and Vince mentions a tea room in Brampton Green that has a better atmosphere, with sheepskin wall hangings making the place feel relaxing and welcoming, also deadening the noise. Vince suggests cowhide for the tea room and Tony's keen, thinking of the Bridge Farm Anguses going for slaughter tomorrow. Vince can give him the hides, to be taken for tanning in Borchester. Jolene seems brighter and tells Elizabeth she has decided to talk to someone as advised. Elizabeth is invited to join Jolene in town as she goes shopping and they discuss Freddie doing well at the abattoir. Jolene ignores her phone, but reveals that it's Harrison, who she admits may or may not be her new confidante. Jolene's sorry for being touchy sometimes, and Elizabeth politely makes her excuses, leaving Jolene to continue her shopping, and praising her for taking action. Jolene suddenly finds herself with unwanted company, as Markie introduces himself. He remembers Jolene from back in the day, menacingly telling her he still follows her on social media. Jolene makes to leave but he says sit down. He also references Elizabeth, and is here to remind Jolene that she has a nice little village boozer. She should keep it that way and not talk to anyone, for her friends' and family's sake as well.
The cat is put among the pigeons for Brian and there's tension at the Tearoom
Last-minute replacement Jakob turns up to play the organ at Ted Barrett's funeral, a former resident of The Laurels. Alan tells him Ted's family requested an upbeat service with a funny eulogy, before Alan gently relieves Jakob of his duties helping organise this year's Christmas Show. Sykesy arrives for the service, sharing some fond and funny memories of Ted. Alan's eulogy then goes down really well, with lots of laughter. After the service Sykesy is full of praise for Alan's delivery. It's also given Jakob an idea for the Christmas Show: an evening of stand-up comedy delivered by local farmers. Sykesy thinks it's a brilliant idea, his enthusiasm overwhelming any objections from Alan. It looks like they've got a Christmas Show! Justin helps Natasha get her buggy out of the shop, then praises her and Tom on their plans to remodel the Tearoom, starting on Wednesday when they take over from Fallon. Justin feigns surprise when Natasha mentions their intention to bid for Oliver's land, but quickly offers to run an eye over their proposal, if it would help. Natasha suspects there is more to Justin's altruism than meets the eye, but goes along with it for now. Later in The Bull, once he's had a look, Justin gravely informs Natasha that their figures simply don't add up. In which case, Natasha responds, they could just aim to build a house on the land instead of trying to farm it. Canny Natasha thanks Justin for pushing her in the right direction and goes quickly, with her buggy, leaving Justin feeling frustrated.
At Berrow, Jazzer gets increasingly frustrated when the computer he's using crashes again. Hannah encourages him to keep going with the management training, but quickly realises he doesn't actually want the job. Jazzer's worried about letting Tracy down, but Hannah tells him to stop beating himself up. Later, in The Bull, Jazzer tells Tracy he's not going for Hannah's job after all – he's good around pigs not being stuck in an office. He thought Tracy would be fuming, but she says she loves him no matter what. Jazzer then gets a message from Hannah saying she's moving in with Stella, so she can stay on at Berrow after all. At the Tearoom George talks Tracy and Emma through the merchandising methods Bridge Farm are using to boost sales. Emma thinks he sounds just like Natasha. Helen comes in and asks Emma about Oliver's land sale progress. She mentions Bridge Farm could be interested, then switches focus to the newly arrived promo stands, yet to go out on the tables. Sensitive to Fallon's issues with the Tearoom ownership, Helen compromises by having just one stand at the till. Later, Emma reports the promotion is doing well. When Helen has to leave suddenly to collect Jack from school, George offers to man the shop. Emma is proud of him for stepping up. George asks about the Grange Farm land sale and Emma says Martyn Gibson is going to look round tomorrow. George wonders if he can put Martyn off somehow, but Emma tells him to stay out of it.
Lynda can see Adil is under a lot of strain and suggests a couple of days away. Adil thinks that's impossible. Everyone seems to be on his case at the moment. Ravenous George calls into the Tea Room. Emma admits she's missing him and that he was right about how living separately would make things better between them all. Emma catches George up on her Grey Gables tickets and Rob's baptism. Helen comes in to say Susan and Neil have fallen off their tandem bike. Emma rushes out to them, leaving George and Helen awkwardly in each other's company. Later with Helen, Emma brings up Rob and George's involvement. She acknowledges things have been strained but she's always there if Helen needs her. Helen refuses to let Rob affect her and Emma thinks she sounds strong. When George delivers salad, Helen asks him to help in the dairy. While they work, Helen tells George her concern over raising boys and how that can lead to behaviour that might seem extreme from the outside. George gets it. Helen wants Jack and Henry to understand there's a right way to behave. She thinks George is starting to understand this too. George apologises for the misuse of his video-making skills. Emma helps Lynda with the seating plan for the Grey Gables Ball. Monty keeps hassling them, so Lynda takes him for a walk. Adil's then surprised to find Emma at Ambridge Hall as he departs for a short break. She gives him a hand with his heavy luggage. On her return, Lynda's pleased to hear from Emma that Adil has taken her advice.
Mia feels sorry for George as he packs for his move to The Green. George hates that everything has to be so complicated. Mia admits her own family arrangements took some getting used to, but she quite likes having two homes now. Later when helping Will she agrees to cut George some slack. She gives Will a photo frame, for his future adventures. Susan tries to buoy downcast Emma about Fallon taking the Tearoom management position that she'd hoped for herself. She'll get where she wants to be eventually. They chat about the Lark Rise reading on Friday, agreeing it will cheer Jim up, who loves the book. Emma's keen for Susan to do something to mark her sixtieth. Susan wants people not to believe she's sixty, and maybe do some things that challenge her. Between them they come up with the idea of six things at sixty. Emma confides she feels she's messed up with George. Her mum counsels all you can do with your children is try to keep them on track. When George moves out, he'll still be in the village, with his dad and Poppy to keep an eye on him. And George will be there for them too. Emma hopes so, for Will's sake. Later George promises Emma he'll look after his dad and Emma's declares she'll miss George. They hug. George worries everyone's concern over Will is down to him. Will reassures him. He shouldn't hang on to his recent bad behaviour. Will hopes this move is good for all of them.
Emma discovers Natasha never got the email she sent. Natasha suggests Emma joins her at The Bull where she's meeting Fallon to discuss Tearoom business. Later Fallon accepts the manager's position. Natasha wants the Tearoom to be completely organic, and Fallon wonders if she's considered the cost of this. Natasha's set on it nevertheless. She produces a contract for Fallon, but Fallon's not signing anything until they've hammered out the details around bonuses. Just as Fallon seeks assurance that Emma will retain her job, Emma appears. Natasha announces Emma has a job, and Emma is elated. Her bubble bursts when Natasha goes on to say that Fallon will be her boss, as manager. Devastated Emma excuses herself. Fallon goes after her and attempts to comfort her but Emma doesn't reveal why she's upset. Stella checks with Pip that their drink with Ruth and David is definitely still happening. They're both nervous about it but try to convince themselves that it will be fine. In the Bull, the conversation is stilted and Pip urges her parents to stop being so weird and formal. Ruth explains they're only acting strange because the situation feels strange. At the bar Pip points out to Stella that Ruth could be feeling this way because it's like Pip has stolen her friend. Later, Stella forces Ruth to talk and they iron out why it feels uncomfortable. Their friendship is now different, particularly when it comes to Pip. Stella's hopeful they'll be fine in a few weeks. They just need to set some boundaries.
Freddie's glum after another job rejection comes through. Elizabeth says they're recruiting at Grey Gables, and he could always have work at Lower Loxley but Freddie's not keen on either. He can't really see himself back at Grey Gables. Elizabeth looks at his CV. Later, Elizabeth admits to Vince that Freddie's CV is all over the place. Vince remarks it's a true reflection of Freddie who doesn't know what he wants. He suggests offering a job to Freddie again. Elizabeth is grateful to Vince for giving her son a second chance. Freddie snaps up Vince's offer of a job. Vince warns him that he will have to experience all aspects of an abattoir. It's hard graft and it isn't for everyone. Freddie assures Vince and Elizabeth that he's up for it and thanks Vince profusely. Vince thinks Freddie will be a good worker and Freddie promises not to muck it up. Emma's touched that George has waited for her to finish work so they can walk home together, but then realises it's cupboard love. Emma chides George for not starting his packing yet. She doesn't want him to leave it all to Will who also has Poppy to think about. Emma tells George about what's planned for the Tearoom. He doesn't think Fallon turning down the manager job will impact Tom and Natasha, they'll just find someone else. He encourages his mum to apply for the job. Emma's worried what Fallon would think but George thinks she'd understand. With George's positivity, Emma is emboldened to apply.
