When Neil pops to Meadow Farm with George's lunch, nervous George admits he thought Neil could be bringing bad news. Neil sympathises, before getting a guided tour of the farm. Esme's delighted when her landlord messages offering a reduced rental and better terms on their environmental commitment. She'll take over the tenancy next Wednesday, Lady Day, and plans a gathering to celebrate. George excuses himself, but Esme insists he's coming too. Neil's annoyed when Ruairi texts to say he's sick, but George has a feeling Ruairi isn't right at the moment. While Tracy's working on Chelsea's horsebox at the Dower House niggly Justin says he only agreed to it being there because Lilian forced him. Tracy stands her ground before a solicitor, Olivia, arrives for a meeting. Justin tells Olivia he's disappointed with the offer for his BL shares by the consortium she represents. She calls his bluff, suggesting he can't find another buyer, before Tracy interrupts, wanting to heat up her lunch. Justin tells her to wait outside, but Olivia's happy for Tracy to stay. When asked, Tracy explains what the horsebox is for and Olivia pushes Justin into agreeing he'll act as Chelsea's business mentor. The two women bond over having daughters of the same age and laugh at the idea of Justin as Ambridge's sweetheart. Later, Justin thanks Tracy for breaking the ice with Olivia, who ended up making a more acceptable offer. Tracy clarifies that Justin really will mentor Chelsea, then pushes her luck over keeping the horsebox at the Dower House longterm. Justin agrees to think about it.

In this special bonus episode of All About The Archers, we're joined by Richard Attlee, the actor who plays Kenton Archer in The Archers on BBC Radio 4.Our wonderful Facebook group submitted the questions, and Richard answers them with warmth, humour and plenty of behind-the-scenes insight into life in Ambridge. We chat about Kenton's life at The Bull, whether he'd actually run a pub in real life, and what it's like stepping into one of the show's most recognisable characters. Richard also shares memories of Kenton's dramatic dog attack storyline, reflects on Kenton's relationships with characters like Jolene and Shula, and discusses whether he thinks Kenton would actually be friends with his own character. There's also plenty of fun along the way — including Kenton's favourite biscuit, the possibility of a Kenton retirement hobby, and whether Kenton would serve Alice a drink in The Bull.If you love The Archers, Kenton Archer, and hearing from the actors who bring Ambridge to life, this is an episode you won't want to miss.Thank you to everyone in our Facebook group who sent in questions. If you enjoy the podcast, there are lots of ways to stay involved and support the show:Watch, follow & support All About The Archers▶️ Watch on YouTube: All About The Archers☕ Support the podcast: Buy us a coffee

Chelsea persuades Jazzer to test drive the horse box to work out what repairs would be needed. As it judders through Ambridge, Chelsea explains her wedding plan – the horse box would get the wedding party out of the house for their beauty in the ‘Glam Van', and she'd park up at the venue for the day for people to get refreshed. She'll also drive to clients' homes and the painted van will act as her billboard! Jazzer outlines the van's problems – most likely the clutch, and part of the suspension is shot – enough to haggle the price down to her budget. Tracy catches them on the test drive and can't believe Jazzer is helping with this mad scheme. He defends Chelsea's idea and says he'll help with the repairs and renovations. She's worked so hard and he wants to help make her dreams true. Tracy is still sceptical – even if Chelsea can haggle the price down, how will she pay for the conversion and repairs?George is retracing his steps on the bridle path where he was attacked, when Amber finds him to remind him about his counselling session. He is distracted as his memory has been jolted and more details about the attack have started to come back to him. Amber thinks he's avoiding counselling and accuses him of spiralling in his intentions, but he promises he'll be back from his walk in time – he just needs to get his head in order. Later, George knocks at a door, where Lilian answers his urgent request to open up.
This week on All About The Archers, Philippa and Quentin dig into a tense and chaotic few days in Ambridge, covering Sunday 8th, Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th February. With George suddenly rushing off at the end of Tuesday's episode, the big question is whether he's finally remembered something crucial about the night of the attack — and if so, what that means for Amber, whose behaviour is raising more than a few eyebrows. There's also plenty of outrage over the Brookfield inheritance plans, growing concern for Josh's future, and disbelief at David and Ruth's approach to both family communication and tax planning. Add in Valentine's Day nonsense, spiky exchanges across the village, a questionable horsebox hair salon idea, and a surprisingly tender moment from Brian Aldridge, and it's another packed week in The Archers. In this episode, we discuss:George's sudden dash and whether his memory is returningThe growing suspicion around Amber and her increasingly desperate behaviourPredictions about whether we'll finally learn who attacked George this weekNeil and Susan's ongoing attitude to George and AmberThe Brookfield inheritance decision and why it's left us furiousInheritance tax blind spots and the risks being taken with the family farmJosh's anger, disappointment and Brian Aldridge's unexpected pep talkThe future of Pip and Stella at BrookfieldValentine's Day chaos at the BullFallon's cutting put-down of AmberThe horsebox hair salon plan and whether it makes any senseStar and Twit of the WeekListener theories and predictionsAlso mentioned:A bonus audio-only Q&A episode with Holly Chapman (Alice Carter), featuring questions from the All About The Archers Facebook group, coming this Saturday. If you enjoy the podcast, there are lots of ways to stay involved and support the show:Watch, follow & support All About The Archers▶️ Watch on YouTube: All About The Archers☕ Support the podcast: Buy us a coffee

Welcome to the sixth series in the annual podcast programme from Academic Archers, bringing you papers from our 2025 conference. This episode explores family life in Ambridge through questions of choice, justice, and intergenerational care. Across three papers, speakers examine voluntary childlessness, crime and redemption, and the varied roles grandfathers play in shaping family dynamics. Please note: this session begins at 2 minutes 40 seconds.Ambridge Family Dynamics2:40 – To Breed or Not to Breed? That Is the Problem Louise GilliesThis paper explores the portrayal of voluntary childlessness in The Archers through the storyline of Harrison and Fallon Burns. It examines how their decision reflects wider debates about reproductive choice, gender roles, and the meaning of family. The paper considers both internal emotional struggles and external societal pressures, particularly the tension between traditional rural expectations and contemporary ideas of autonomy and lifestyle.About the speaker Louise Gillies is a reproductive health counsellor with a background in health communication research. A listener since 1998, she frequently uses Ambridge storylines as case studies in her teaching and has been part of Academic Archers since the first conference.Law and Disorder: I Fought the Law and the Law Won in Ambridge Nicola MaxfieldThis paper explores crime, punishment, and redemption in Ambridge, focusing on George, Freddie, Tom, and Clive. It examines how family background, education, attachment, and social capital shape different outcomes, and how the village responds unevenly to similar crimes. The paper invites reflection on whether some characters are judged more harshly than others, and why.About the speaker Nicola Maxfield is an Academic Skills Advisor at University Centre for Northern Devon. Her work focuses on equity of access to higher education, particularly for neurodivergent students. She lives in Devon and is still attempting to complete a Master's degree.Grandpas Are Wise, Loving and Fun – Or Are They? Katharine Hoskyn and Deborah MillerGrandfathers have featured prominently in recent Archers storylines, particularly in response to George's difficulties. This paper compares the grandfathering styles of Neil Carter, Joe and Eddie Grundy, Tony Archer, Brian Aldridge, and David Archer.Drawing on academic literature, the paper proposes a new framework for understanding grandfathering in Ambridge and reflects on the experience, authority, and care grandfathers bring to family life. The presentation is dedicated to the authors' own grandfathers.About the speakers Katharine Hoskyn is based in rural New Zealand and works with Auckland University of Technology. Her research background spans social science and business, with a focus on community issues. Deborah Miller works in the health sector in the North East of England and has a background in history, politics, and leadership studies. Both have been long-term listeners of The Archers.
Spoiler warning for The Archers episodes: Sunday 11th, Monday 12th & Tuesday 13th JanuaryIs George's head injury really the great redemption arc the village is buying into… or is something much darker (and clumsier) at play?Philippa and Quentin dive into a turbulent week in Ambridge, where apologies cause more damage than silence, marriages creak under pressure, and a missing bottle of Chardonnay may be more important than it first appears. In this episode:

Welcome to the sixth series in the annual podcast programme from Academic Archers, bringing you papers from our 2025 conference. This episode explores institutions in Ambridge as sites of power, care, and controversy. Through two papers, speakers examine Underwoods as a space of women's social change and Lower Loxley as a flashpoint for debates about history, race, and responsibility.Institutions, Care, and Contested Histories0:59 – Are You Being Served? The Department Store in the Community Jane JamesThis paper explores the historical role of the department store, using Underwoods as a case study. It considers how stores like Underwoods created new opportunities for women, offering employment, promotion, and unprecedented freedom of movement in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The paper also questions Underwoods' unusual success in the modern retail landscape and the reluctance of Ambridge residents to work there, asking whether something more curious is going on behind the cosmetics counter.About the speaker Jane James is a retired project manager and active writer. She has been listening to The Archers since the late 1970s, co-hosts an Archers podcast, and has a particular fondness for a good haberdashery department.17:45 – Duties of Care to the Present and the Past: Art, Race, and Reconciliation at Lower Loxley Tim VercellottiThis paper examines the controversy surrounding a portrait at Lower Loxley Hall with possible links to the slave trade. It traces the differing responses of Freddie, Noluthando, Elizabeth, Lily, and others, each reflecting wider UK debates about whether to remove, contextualise, or repurpose contested historical objects. The paper links this storyline to national discussions on statues and memorials, and introduces the idea of the “empty plinth” as an alternative way of acknowledging painful histories while recognising the harm they represent.About the speaker Dr Timothy Vercellotti is Professor of Political Science at Western New England University in Massachusetts and Director of the university's London summer programme. His teaching and research focus on political behaviour, race and politics, and political philosophy, alongside extensive post-doctoral work in all things Ambridge.

Since her big break in Muriel's Wedding 30 years ago, actor Toni Collette has graced our screens in a huge list of standout roles from The Sixth Sense to Hereditary, Little Miss Sunshine to Mickey 17. She joined Kylie Pentelow to discuss her latest film, Goodbye June. The emotional directorial debut from Kate Winslet tackles themes of love, loss and Christmas as a fractious family come together to sit vigil for the family matriarch, played by Helen Mirren. From the very beginning of the NHS in 1948, Irish women were actively recruited to staff British hospitals. By the 1960s, there were around 30,000 Irish-born nurses - making up roughly one in eight of all nurses – yet their contribution has often gone unrecognised. A new book aims to change that. Based on dozens of interviews, it tells the story of Irish nurses in their own words. We hear from co-author of Irish Nurses in the NHS: An Oral History, Professor Louise Ryan, who spent years researching Irish migration and from Ethel Corduff, who came to England to train as a nurse, a career she spent 40 years in.Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport, or RED-S as it's known, was once framed as a concern only for elite athletes. But as running culture intensifies alongside weight-loss jabs and healthy eating trends, RED-S has become more widespread. It's often hard to spot, but the long-term consequences can be devastating, impacting immune function, growth and fertility. Sports dietitian Renee McGregor and Jodie Pearlman, who experienced the condition first hand, joined Kylie to talk about the condition. Why can adults seem to regress to childhood or teenage behaviours at Christmas? We discuss family dynamics and the kinds of behaviour that can re-surface with everyone under the same roof again. Guardian columnist Elle Hunt shares her own experience alongside Woman's Hour listeners, and psychotherapist Julia Samuel offers advice. It's 75 years since The Archers first launched. Woman's Hour broadcast from Ambridge to celebrate the female characters who have helped this programme tackle some of the most challenging, contentious and sensitive issues affecting women. Joy finds Tony in low spirits at Bridge Farm, dreading the thought of Christmas and what would have been John's fiftieth birthday on New Year's Eve. He tells Joy they had a row shortly before Tony's vintage tractor overturned and killed John. After Tony goes to see the beavers being released at Rewilding Ambridge, Joy tells Ruth and Pip they should cancel her idea for a Christmas village event. It would feel heartless after what Tony's told her. Ruth suggests asking Pat and Tony what they think first, though. And when they ask Tony he thinks a Christmas Tractor Run through Ambridge sounds wonderful, but gets them to agree to consult Pat before they go ahead and start publicising the event. Alice catches Rex up with what happened in Blackpool, then says she's going to film the beaver release for Phoebe. Rex and Kirsty decide to get on with it, even though Justin's not there. Tony arrives just in time, before the beavers disappear into the woods, and Kirsty and Rex hug each other. Then Alice realises she's only filmed three seconds, though Kirsty points out there will be footage from the enclosure cameras. Justin finally turns up, in time for cake if not beavers. Later, Kirsty and Rex worry about Justin's commitment, before he disappoints again by not showing any interest in footage of the release. But Alice is delighted when Rex offers to send her the footage, so Phoebe and Martha can see the beavers. Emotional Alice then hugs Rex, before it gets awkward and he goes.
