At the Shop Jim tries a super-courteous approach to get Lilian to fill in the survey, while Jazzer adds a mocking commentary. It's only when Jim spells out the existential threat Underwoods Local poses that Lilian agrees to answer the questions. Between them Jazzer and Lilian come up with several suggestions for improvements. Then Jazzer points out the biggest issue is friendliness – or the lack of it - and despite Jim's denial Lilian agrees that it's an issue. Later on Jazzer snatches Lilian's completed survey, reading out her score for friendliness: three out of five. He tells Jim it's not going to save the shop. Jim confesses how exhausting he finds maintaining the façade of friendliness and his relief at going to stay at his daughter's next week. But Jazzer loves it when Jim is grumpy! While Chris is relatively relaxed before the meeting about Martha at the nursery, Alice can't help thinking there must be a serious problem. The manager tactfully points out that Martha has haphazard concentration levels and limited attention span. She suggests working together with the staff to get Martha to focus on tasks for longer. Chris is happy to go along with this but Alice seems more troubled. Back at the Stables Lilian pushes Alice to confess her fear that her drinking during pregnancy is now affecting Martha's development. And if Lilian leaves Ambridge then that's another huge plank of Alice's support network gone, after Jennifer and Peggy. Lilian tells her she's changed her mind and she's not going anywhere.

Joy reckons the Village Shop customer survey drawn up by Susan and Emma is too comprehensive and offers to cut it down. Susan won't give way though, before explaining the survey's purpose to Jazzer. Both him and Joy wax lyrical about a superior shopping experience at Underwoods Local, pushing Susan into agreeing to take a look for herself. Later on, after bumping into Jazzer again, Susan is gobsmacked to discover Clarrie is working there. Clarrie tells Susan most of the village have been in already - and they're all dead impressed. Susan fears it could be the end of the Village Shop.Chris is at The Stables trimming some of the horses' hooves. He catches up with Alice and they discuss taking Martha to Peggy's funeral, agreeing that she should go. They arrange to meet up later over a curry to discuss preparing Martha for the day itself. At lunchtime Alice is joined by Joy at the Playground and they talk about how Alice's family are coping with Peggy's death, before comparing notes on the hard times both have been through recently. Joy then prompts Alice, she and Chris have cracked co-parenting, so she doesn't have to cope with everything on her own, does she? But then Chris phones and tells Alice that Imaani, the nursery manager, has called them in for an unscheduled meeting on Friday to talk about making sure Martha's school-ready. Chris doesn't think it signifies much, but Alice is unsettled by it. Later she calls Chris and cancels their catch-up later; there's things she needs to do at The Stables.

At the Tearoom, before the pancake eating competition starts, Zainab tells relieved Akram she was never going to take a job at The Bull. Brad meanwhile isn't feeling great, following his starvation diet. Natasha introduces Zainab and Brad in boxing-match style with ridiculous nicknames, but then Brad collapses to the floor. Later, while embarrassed Brad recovers, Natasha desperately tries to find a replacement, but it doesn't look promising. Before setting off in the Riley Jazzer confesses how anxious he is about going to this posh restaurant. Tracy susses he's more upset about not going to the pancake event, but she's not changing her mind. However, Tracy then gets a call telling her what's happened to Brad. By the time Tracy and Jazzer reach The Tearoom people have started drifting away. Tracy insists on taking Brad off to feed him up – she's already cancelled the meal with Susan and Neil. Seeing Natasha's desperation Jazzer offers to take Brad's place, but quickly changes his mind when he sees Tracy's face. With a load of uneaten pancakes left on her hands Natasha has no choice but to offer them free to all comers.Back at Ambridge Hall Akram cajoles Zainab into making up with Azra, instead of fighting all the time. Zainab feels bad about the books and photos that were ruined by the sewage, but Adil has found replacements for some of the photographs at least, which Akram has brought back with him. When asked about moving back to Solihull Zainab admits she'd like to give Ambridge a try for a little longer yet.

At No.6 The Green Jazzer moans to Brad about the posh dinner Tracy's making him go to with Susan and Neil. But Brad has other things on his mind, including the pancake eating competition. Jazzer would far rather go to that, but Tracy refuses to change their dinner date to let him do both. Brad then tells jealous Jazzer he'll fast before the competition to make sure he beats Zainab. The prize is as good as his.Akram fills Azra in on how Adil is doing in Pakistan, then outlines some ideas to get his business up and running. They share happy memories of biking together, before Azra shocks him with news about Zainab wanting to work in a pub. Later, they consider the idea of moving back to Solihull, amongst old friends. Azra confesses that, despite the sewage spill, they feel settled in Ambridge. She thinks Akram might grow to like it there too. Despite Emma's best efforts the Tearoom has been dead all day. Both Pat and Emma hope Natasha's punt on getting customers back with the pancake competition works. Pat's frustrated that not many people have signed her petition about the sewage overspill. Emma suggests drumming up a bigger response with a media blitz. Later, Emma shows Pat the work she's been doing online to publicise the petition, using photos of damage at Bridge Farm and adding links to the Borsetshire Clean Water Action Group. Even better, Emma then gets an invite for an interview on Radio Borsetshire – at last, an opportunity for their voices to be heard!

Faith bumps into Jazzer as he takes Jim's old airbed over to Brookfield to help with their ‘big barn sleepover'. Faith is so grateful for the community support, and Jazzer makes no secret of how relieved Jakob will be to have his home back. Eddie's visiting Joe's grave, and chats to his old Dad. Visiting the churchyard also is Faith. They bump into one another and Faith remembers him from her childhood. She jokingly reminds Eddie of when they got “married” when they were five or six years old. It has been more than sixty years, but Eddie hasn't changed at all. Over a drink at the Bull, they catch up and share their life stories. Eddie lies, making himself out to be in the antiques business with Clarrie. Faith's delighted to accept his invitation to come over with Chuck tomorrow and try some home-made cider. A stranger arrives at Greenacres, and startled Jim takes immediate action to make a citizen's arrest. The stranger had let himself in thinking he'd booked into Jim's bungalow. Jazzer arrives and points out that this guy isn't a scammer but rather has himself been scammed. With this clarified, apologetic Jim shares a drink and gets to know Joel. Having been contained by Jim in the living room, Joel admits he enjoyed looking at Jim's impressive library. Joel is an archaeologist and connects with Jim over his Classical literature. Joel resigns himself to going home, but Jazzer has another idea, mentioning the Brookfield Barn. Joel's happy; he feels he's found a kindred spirit in Jim.

«Jazz ain't dead, it just smells funny»? Der flapsige Spruch von Zappa wird immer noch gerne zitiert. Der Geruch, falls er mal da war, hat sich längst verflüchtigt. Einer, der für den nötigen Durchzug sorgte, war der Saxophonist Lou Donaldson. Die gespielten Titel: Interpret:in: Titel (Album / Label) Lou Donaldson: Cheek to Cheek (Quartet/Quintet / Blue Note) Art Blakey: Split Kick (Live at the Birdland / Blue Note) Lou Donaldson: Blues Walk (Blues Walk / Blue Note) Lou Donaldson: You've Changed (Lush Life / Blue Note) Lou Donaldson: Alligator Boogaloo (Alligator Boogaloo / Blue Note) Lou Donaldson: Everything I Do Gona Be Funky (Everything I Play Is Funky / Blue Note) Lou Donaldson: Just a Dream (On My Mind) (Caracas / Milestone) Erstausstrahlung: 22.11.2011

Brad's decided to go to his Freshers' Ball and Jazzer and Alistair encourage him to make friends at Uni. Brad has told Alistair about Jazzer's giant sunflower and Alistair teases Jazzer that his precious bloom may get damaged or eaten before the Flower & Produce Show. They discuss George - they're all baffled by what happened and Jazzer warns Brad to steer clear of him. Jazzer and Brad help Alistair redecorate Greenacres for him and Denise. With Jim away they feel they have free rein. But as they go to move some significant items, Robert turns up – in the nick of time, and with a list from Jim of things not to be moved. This ruins the painted ‘feature wall' plan. But as Robert is distracted, going to deal with some litterers, Alistair locks the door behind him and puts into action their intended plan for him and Denise – regardless of Jim's instructions. Fallon is furious with Harrison for confronting George, risking his job, their future and her career dreams by losing his temper and not stopping to think. They meet Alice, and Harrison is full of apologies - for everything - including seeing red with George yesterday. Harrison admits he lost control, and Fallon fears he now wants to quit the Police. Fallon and Alice discuss how he and Chris are all over the place right now. Fallon confides that she wants the old Harrison back, and Alice admits how much she regrets losing Chris. They agree that they need to be patient, and they will get there – together.

At Woodbine Cottage Fallon can scarcely believe it when Alice tells her about George. Alice has been crying herself to sleep for weeks, but not anymore. Fallon remembers George's apparent modesty about being a hero, when in reality he was lying. Alice, though, still feels some responsibility for being drunk in her car and for Fallon ending up in the river. They wonder about the effect the full story will have on Brian and Harrison. At No.1 The Green Harrison loses it with George, blaming him for killing his unborn child and making Harrison hateful towards Alice. He barely restrains himself from battering terrified George. Later, when Harrison returns to Woodbine Cottage, Alice is still there with Fallon. Harrison tells them he picked up on some rumours at work before going to check the truth with George. He confesses that he scared George in the process. Fallon, appalled at Harrison's lack of judgement, makes excuses and walks out. Alice then apologises to embarrassed Harrison for all she's put him and Fallon through, before they hug, finally friends again. While walking the road behind Brookfield orchard Jazzer asks Brad to help shift furniture at Greenacres, where Alistair is planning to redecorate. Jazzer spots the largest sunflower he's ever seen. He reckons it's sure to be a prize winner at the Flower & Produce Show. Later, Jazzer tells Brad he's hidden the flower from general view. Picking damsons for Jim's jellies, Alistair and Jazzer discuss Alistair's living arrangements. Jim has been bending over backwards to make Denise welcome and comfortable, but it's not ideal for them. Yet Alistair feels moving in with her now wouldn't be right with his Dad getting older. Kirsty greets them as she passes to put a poster up in the shop. She is advertising for a house-mate now that Roy has left, as she can't afford Willow Farm on her own. Denise visits Kirsty to view the property. Kirsty misses Roy's company and enjoys sharing. Denise wonders what it will be like to have her own space again after so many years of marriage. Over at Greenacres, Jim, Jazzer and Alistair reminisce about their own house share. Jim suggests Alistair redecorates to put his own stamp on Greenacres. Denise joins them to tell them the news: if Roy agrees, she would love to move in with Kirsty. With rain approaching, Will and Ed are apprehensive about getting their work done before the storm and arrange to meet for a drink later. Ed hopes George's break at the seaside cheers him up but Will is cagey about the trip details. Later in The Bull, Will confesses that he felt like an amateur at Bridge Farm, making mistakes and causing stress at the harvest. His mind is on other things. Ed reminds Will that Emma's GCSE results come out tomorrow and that he should join them for a drink and cake, they should be celebrating not worrying.

Oliver joins them and Eddie and Ed are stunned to learn that he plans to sell 10 acres. Ed panics about what this will mean for grazing his Texel flock. Oliver delivers another blow by explaining that to raise the money he needs he has to sell prime land that has planning permission and road access. Eddie realises this means the plot includes a barn that goes back through Grundy history. Eddie and Ed continue to challenge Oliver about his decision. When Oliver appeals for them to be rational, Eddie counters that Oliver's decision to rebuild Grey Gables isn't rational. They reach a stand-off and Oliver decides to walk away before anyone says something they'll regret.
