Wynter tells us all about a very different kind of streaming service that serves up classic Blaxploitation, while Karen finally admits which celebrity chef taught her how to cook. It's Oscar season, so the two share their very different feelings about another hostless ceremony, while looking back on some of their favorites. They got it right this year!! That’s right, Chris, Carson, and Kyle are here to breakdown what they liked and what they loved about the 2020 Academy Awards. They all very much loved Parasite. Carson is kind of a downer and laments about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but besides that they all have a good time. Did anyone see Judy? Did Kyle hit his hedge? Does this show, much like the Oscars, need a host? This, and much more, on this week’s episode of Straight to VHS.
On this week's post Golden Globes episode, Ben, Libby, and Leo discuss the various highs (Ramy Youssef, 'Succession') and lows (Ricky Gervais, Russell Crowe's win for 'The Loudest Voice') of this year's ceremony. Ben and Libby also discuss their various post-Globes party stops, and why Quibi (which has yet to give Libby a show) isn't at TCAs.
Fall is here (not that you can tell by the weather) and the award-bait movies are coming. The first is "Judy" starring Renee Zellweger as Judy Garland in the waning days of her career. She's getting Oscar buzz for this one and we'll let you know what we think. Then there's "The Day Shall Come," a dark comedy about terrorists and the FBI featuring Anna Kendrick, Dennis O'Hare and Jim Gaffigan. We also look back at last Sunday's Emmy Awards broadcast which broke a record - but not the good kind. Just like the Oscars this year it had no host. Did it work as well? Neil looks at Ken Burns' PBS documentary on Country Music and Bill McCuddy tells us about "Anna" from famed action director Luc Besson. The leaves haven't started falling yet so you have no excuse - listen in!
