Jaywalking, playing video games too late, playing music too loud in public, not paying bills on time, and criticizing the government are just a couple of ways the Communist Party of China will control their citizens with the social credit score system that is planned to roll out in 2020. This score will dictate what rights and freedoms people have. If an individual's score is too low they can be placed on a “blacklist” which will prevent them from buying plane/ train tickets or qualifying to work in desired jobs. The social credit score system will also allow the government to track and monitor the activities of all businesses in China. The system is described by some as a “digital dictatorship” and a “dystopian nightmare straight out of Black Mirror”. Ian Miles Cheong joins us to explore the current pilot social credit score systems that are in place and what to expect with the 2020 model. We will also discuss why the West should care about the 2020 roll out.

It is no secret that individuals in the Atheist community have created harassment campaigns aimed at us, our events, our friends and partners. This has resulted in us turning away from that world and we have not looked back. David Silverman was arguably one of the most influential individuals that operated in the Atheist circles. Post Mythcon IV, David joined the bandwagon and went on a crusade to publicly vilify us, our friends, our event and our partners while simultaneously promoting his own event as the antithesis of ours. As a principle, we do not engage publicly in this type of drama or respond to bad faith individuals. We did not speak to David after his campaign against us. David was later accused of sexual misconduct and fired from his position as the leader of the American Atheists organization. We will be having a discussion with David about these allegations and whether or not his perceptions of the divide in Atheism have changed.
