Ellie Gibson, comedian, one half of comedy double act The Scummy Mummies and self-proclaimed “bit of a pisshead”, has taken a long, hard look at her relationship with booze and decided to do something about it. She's started a podcast! She tells our Mick about the excellent Sort Your Shit Out, the joys and rules of moist January, the perils of kiwi fruit, and finding a liveable middle ground when it comes to alcohol.Jen talks to Guildford Refugee Aid* volunteer Melanie Keane about how she's helping refugees via the practical as well as therapeutic powers of sewing. And will Jen also get the help she needs with making those trousers? Jen's talking "embarrassment" in women's football and the gender gap in women's sport in Jenny off The Blocks. And in Rated or Dated, Hannah's much more tickled by John C Reilly than Mark Wahlberg's hefty schlong, as we watch actual wang-fest, Boogie Nights.Plus, there's a big resignation, a landmark law and more of the old kickball in the Bush Telegraph.*If you fancy helping out the refugees Melanie is helping out, here's the link to the Guildford Refugee Aid's Amazon wishlist. https://www.amazon.co.uk/registries/custom/2SI9TJN75QUND/guest-viewSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/standardissuespodcast. The end of the year is right around the corner and if you guessed there would not be much movie news, you would be mostly correct. Still, there was some surprising news regarding deceptive trailers and the legal recourse audiences now have. We also show off our ignorance of the Insidious franchise and talk Barbie.Last week, cinema lost one of its most creative voices in Angelo Badalamenti. We wanted to remember him by covering one of the many films he scored. Unfortunately, we picked 2005's Dark Water. The music is not bad, but is not a good example of Badalamenti's talent. The movie stars Jennifer Connelly and has John C. Reilly and Tim Roth. It will not come as a surprise to anyone that the acting is top notch. As for the actual plot? We talk about missed opportunities, a busy story in which nothing really seems to happen, and try to figure out what exactly dark water is.Last week, we reviewed a movie that Regina felt did not have a Christmas feel to it. This week, we cover a film that not only has the word Christmas in the title -twice! - there is also a killer robotic Santa Claus. As awesome as that is, it also includes some of the most obnoxious characters of the year. Was the yuletide violence enough to overcome its annoying protagonists? Not only does the end of December have some new releases, it has some of the most interesting ones of the year!Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story was a 2007 musical comedy directed by Jake Kasdan, and produced by Judd Apatow, featuring John C. Reilly in his first ever starring role, along with Jenna Fischer, Tim Meadows, Kristin Wiig, Margo Martindale, Raymond J. Barry, and a slew of cameos. The film was an early parody of the musician biopic, following the trials and tribulations of Dewey Cox, a fictional performer who in universe has served as an unsung inspiration for years and years of rock and roll history. It depicts the life of Cox, his successes and failures, and his (Fictional) interactions with famed real world musicians like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and others. Though the film was a box office bomb, it received praise from critics, and would go on to become a cult classic. On a new episode of Hell Is A Musical, Lilz and Scott are rejoined by recurring guest Christopher Brown to watch one of Lilz' favorite films of all time for her 35th year on Earth. #403 Testosterone - Richard has been to see his best friends in Edinburgh again and disappointed that any problems he has can't be blamed on anyone but himself. His guest is actor and writer Sanjeev Kohli. They talk about how Scotland welcomed his family, why he went to University in the city he grew up, how he got distracted from the wonderful world of mathematics, stalking Prince, the worldwide success of Still Game, being Hugh Laurie's husband (in Avenue 5) and trying to joke with John C Reilly. Plus the power of the pun and the difficulty of explaining why that are funny!Follow Sanjeev on Twitter (it's really worth it) @govindajeggySee RHLSTP live http://richardherring.com/rhlstpSUPPORT THE SHOW!Watch our TWITCH CHANNELSee extra content at our WEBSITESee details of the RHLSTP TOUR DATES Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. Twenty-five years ago, director Paul Thomas Anderson shook up the cinematic world with this epic tale focusing on the adult film industry in the 1970's and 1980's.  He borrowed techniques from Robert Altman and Martin Scorcese but he made them his own with this sprawling tale of Eddie Adams, a teenager played by Mark Wahlberg with ONE special gift.  This one special gift helps Eddie become an instant star with the name of Dirk Diggler – we witness his rise and fall within the industry along with stories of so many others around him portrayed by an impressively stacked cast including Burt Reynolds, Julianne More, Don Cheadle, the late great Phillip Seymour Hoffman, John C. Reilly, and Heather Graham, along with so many others…..  And If you still don't want to hear this review after reading the above, then that's not an MP…..that's a YP, YOUR problem. :O   Host: Geoff Gershon  Editors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Days Of Thunder movie review! Starring Tom Cruise, Nicole Kiddman, Robert Duvall, John C Reilly and more; A horribly written lot; Tom Cruise is an all-time creep; Robert Duvall is too good of an actor to be in this; The difference in polished up Randy Quaid; A nod to 80s movies; Being a member of a pit crew seems awful
