One of those dark horses happens to be the second half of our FX-themed summer show swap! "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story" is the second season of the American biographical crime drama anthology television series Monster, created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan for Netflix. The season centers on the 1989 parricides of José (Javier Bardem) and Kitty Menendez (Chloë Sevigny), who were killed by their sons, Lyle (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Erik (Cooper Koch). It uses the Rashomon effect as a narrative device by presenting key events through multiple perspectives and unreliable narrators, leaving the "truth" open to interpretation.  The season achieved global commercial success, debuting as the number-one series on Netflix worldwide, the most-viewed streaming content on the Nielsen Streaming Chart, and the third most-watched Netflix series in the second half of 2024. At the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, it earned 11 nominations, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Koch and Sevigny, respectively. After a hiatus that was inexcusably long, the boys are back to celebrate Episode 40! And since it's a special occasion, they decided to give you a special episode that harkens back to the idea that started it all. Instead of turning their iconic film Olympia into a mini series, the boys try to craft an original series that would get Arnold Schwarzenegger a Primetime Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. And they came to play, because the show they create is a banger, if we do say so ourselves. I won't spoil too much in this description, but let's just say Arnie will be taking a trip to Eastern Europe and flexing his political chops again, this time in a more dictatorial way. Can Arnold hold on to this Seat of Power, or is his reign as a nation's leader destined to fail? Beyond just the premise, the boys plot out the rough skeleton of the plot, cast the supporting actors, and even select some writers and directors to help bring this vision to life. If this doesn't win an Emmy for Arnold, nothing will.Don't worry, we know you're all waiting to hear what the opening segment will be. Today the boys imagine Arnold in the role of Thomas Mitchell's character Doc Boone in John Ford's 1939 picture "Stagecoach." Can Arnold handle playing a drunken old doctor in the wild west? Yes, we think he certainly can. Although whether or not he can win an Oscar in the early years of World War II might prove to be a challenge.Hosted by Sonny de Nocker (@swankysonny) and Tom Price (@thomas_price22).Theme by Josh Britt (jbrittmusic.com)Instagram: AnOscarForArnoldTwitter: @AnOscar4ArnoldTikTok: AnOscarForArnoldContact: AnOscarForArnold@gmail.com

pWotD Episode 2962: Brian Wilson Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 790,872 views on Wednesday, 11 June 2025 our article of the day is Brian Wilson.Brian Douglas Wilson (June 20, 1942 – c. June 11, 2025) was an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer who co-founded the Beach Boys. Often called a genius for his novel approaches to pop composition and mastery of recording techniques, he is widely acknowledged as one of the most innovative and significant songwriters of the 20th century. His best-known work is distinguished for its high production values, complex harmonies and orchestrations, vocal layering, and introspective or ingenuous themes. Wilson was also known for his versatile vocal range. He faced lifelong struggles with mental illness. Wilson's formative influences included George Gershwin, the Four Freshmen, Phil Spector, and Burt Bacharach. In 1961, he began his professional career as a member of the Beach Boys, serving as the band's songwriter, producer, co-lead vocalist, bassist, keyboardist, and de facto leader. After signing with Capitol Records in 1962, he became the first pop musician credited for writing, arranging, producing, and performing his own material. He also produced acts such as the Honeys and American Spring. By the mid-1960s he had written or co-written more than two dozen U. S. Top 40 hits, including the number-ones "Surf City" (1963), "I Get Around" (1964), "Help Me, Rhonda" (1965), and "Good Vibrations" (1966). He is considered among the first music producer auteurs and the first rock producers to apply the studio as an instrument. In 1964, Wilson had a nervous breakdown and resigned from regular concert touring to focus on songwriting and production. This led to works such as the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds and his first credited solo release, "Caroline, No" (both 1966), as well as the unfinished album Smile. By the late 1960s, his productivity and mental health had significantly declined, leading to periods marked by reclusion, overeating, and substance abuse. His first professional comeback yielded the almost solo effort The Beach Boys Love You (1977). In the 1980s, he formed a controversial creative and business partnership with his psychologist, Eugene Landy, and relaunched his solo career with the self-titled album Brian Wilson (1988). Wilson disassociated from Landy in 1991 and toured regularly as a solo artist from 1999 to 2022.Heralding popular music's recognition as an art form, Wilson's accomplishments as a producer helped initiate an era of unprecedented creative autonomy for label-signed acts. He is regarded as an important figure to many music genres and movements, including the California sound, art pop, psychedelia, chamber pop, progressive music, punk, outsider, and sunshine pop. Since the 1980s, his influence has extended to styles such as post-punk, indie rock, emo, dream pop, Shibuya-kei, and chillwave. He received numerous industry awards including two Grammy Awards and Kennedy Center Honors as well as nominations for a Golden Globe Award and Primetime Emmy Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2000. His life and career were dramatised in the 2014 biopic Love and Mercy. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 03:15 UTC on Thursday, 12 June 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Brian Wilson on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm generative Ayanda.

In this week's tribute, Janet, John, (and Pen) celebrate the life and career of a truly legendary artist, director, and filmmaker. He turned suburbia, teen angst, and small town life into objects of horror, admiration, and pity. Genius, artist, and madman… It's David Lynch! While Lynch had little interest in schoolwork growing up, a love for painting brought him to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. He would later shock the movie business with a student film in response to the madness of America in the days of Vietnam. With a career spanning over five decades, Lynch is known for his incredibly vivid, unforgettable, and dreamlike films including Eraserhead (1977), The Elephant Man (1980), Dune (1984), Blue Velvet (1986), Wild at Heart, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992), Lost Highway (1997), Mulholland Drive (2001), and more. He received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in 2006, an Academy Honorary Award, and five Primetime Emmy Award nominations for surrealist horror-mystery series Twin Peaks.  To learn more about this episode and others, visit the official Cinema Sounds & Secrets website!

Nick and Angela welcome a fashion icon to Dish HQ. Born in Pennsylvania, Billy Porter was always destined for greatness. In 1992 he won the TV show Star Search, scooping the $100,000 prize ahead of a very young Britney Spears. He took his talent to Broadway and in 2013 won a Tony Award for his portrayal of Lola in Kinky Boots. In 2018, Billy played Pray Tell in the BBC2 series Pose, a role that earned him critical acclaim and a Primetime Emmy Award. He released his memoir, Unprotected, in 2021. Billy Porter is currently starring in Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club in London, alongside Marisha Wallace as Sally Bowles. Nick mixes a fiery lime margarita for Billy, while Angela whips up a delicious Greek chicken with orzo. Our trio sip champagne with their meal, a le mesnil blanc de blanc grand cru brut nv, chosen by the experts at Waitrose. Billy Porter is up there with the most entertaining guests we've ever had on Dish. He's only been in the UK a few months, but he has some thoughts… On customer service at Christmastime and British cooks' ‘subtle' approach to seasoning. Cobra Kai is an American martial arts comedy drama television series created by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, and distributed by Sony Pictures Television. It serves as a sequel to the original The Karate Kid films created by Robert Mark Kamen.[1] The series premiered on May 2, 2018, and concluded on February 13, 2025, after six seasons consisting of 65 episodes. The series stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, reprising their respective roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence from the film series, alongside Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni DeCenzo, Peyton List, Vanessa Rubio, and Dallas Dupree Young. Martin Kove and Thomas Ian Griffith also reprise their roles from the films as part of the main cast, with many others returning in guest or recurring roles.Cobra Kai re-examines The Karate Kid films as Johnny's "redemption story,"[2] beginning with his decision to reopen the Cobra Kai karate dojo, and the rekindling of his old rivalry with Daniel.[3] The series attained high viewership on both YouTube and Netflix, and received critical acclaim for its writing, performances, action sequences, humor, character development, and faithfulness to the films. It received numerous awards and nominations, with the third season being nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards.Thirty-four years after being defeated by Daniel LaRusso in the 1984 All-Valley Karate Tournament at the end of The Karate Kid (1984), Johnny Lawrence suffers from alcoholism and depression. He works as a part-time handyman and lives in an apartment in Reseda, Los Angeles, having fallen far from his wealthy lifestyle in Encino. He has an estranged son named Robby, from a previous relationship, whom he has abandoned. In contrast, Daniel is now the owner of a successful car dealership and is married to co-owner Amanda with whom he has two children: Sam and Anthony. However, Daniel often struggles to meaningfully connect with his children especially after his friend and mentor Mr. Miyagi passed away prior to the series' beginning. After using karate to defend his teenage neighbor Miguel Diaz from a group of bullies, Johnny agrees to teach Miguel the way of the fist and re-opens Cobra Kai. The revived dojo attracts a group of bullied social outcasts who find camaraderie and self-confidence under Johnny's tutelage. The reopening of Cobra Kai reignites Johnny's rivalry with Daniel, who responds by opening the Miyagi-do dojo, whose students include Sam and Robby, leading to a rivalry between the respective dojos.Pre
