Harper Steele talks about transitioning and the differences in how she experiences the world as a woman and how the world experiences her.  The differences in parenting, writing, and comedy. Trying to fight off who she really was for years. Her fears of being judged.  How finding her true self saved her life. How road trips are different. How being macho was an odd priority before. How that reflected her comedy. How a teacher started her writing. How the movie “Will & Harper” has affected other transpeople and how she has been mostly accepted by the world and completely accepted by her friends. Her love of thrift stores and vinyl records.  And our mutual love of The Eurovision Song Contest.  Bio: Harper Steele is a comedy writer who launched her career in 1995 at the renowned show "Saturday Night Live." For over thirteen years, she served the show in various capacities, eventually ascending to the position of head writer for four years. This period of her career was marked with a notable achievement, with Steele earning a Primetime Emmy Award in 2002. Following this, her creativity found a new platform at Funny or Die, where she assumed the role of creative director. Steele's writing prowess was not limited to television, as she contributed to the scripts of several films, including "Casa de mi padre," "The Ladies Man," and "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga." Alongside her writing career, she also served as an executive producer of HBO's "Funny or Die Presents." Her multifaceted career in comedy writing and production was depicted in the 2024 Netflix documentary "Will & Harper," which also explored Steele's gender transition and its impact on her friendship with longtime friend and collaborator Will Ferrell. The documentary "Will & Harper" received critical acclaim, premiering at the 40th Sundance Film Festival in January 2024 and earning a nomination for a People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. Steele's comedic and political viewpoints, often referred to as "purple-haired woke," advocate for humor as a catalyst for positive change. Such viewpoints have earned her accolades within her industry circles, with Jimmy Fallon describing Steele as "one of the funniest people I think I've ever met in my lifetime."  Learn more about your ad choices. This episode of Unlocked is one I didn't know I needed. Contemporary Christian singer-songwriter Matthew West joins me and what starts with laughing about The Masked Singer somehow turns into one of the most honest conversations about faith, shame, marriage, and what it actually looks like to live what you preach. We talk about growing up with pressure around faith, feeling like all eyes are on you, and the danger of becoming performative instead of personal. Matthew opens up about being better at talking about God than talking to Him. That one hit me. We talk about grace, about shame, about how easy it is to remember our worst mistakes and forget that God doesn't keep score the way we do.We also get into marriage in today's world, breaking generational cycles, apologizing to your kids when you mess up, and why humility might be one of the most powerful things a parent can model. There's something really beautiful about hearing a man talk about choosing his wife every day and putting faith at the center of his home.If you've ever questioned where God is in the middle of your hardest seasons… if you've wrestled with shame… if you're trying to build something healthy after coming from dysfunction… this conversation is for you. And yes, we also talk about his unreleased song that might just save a few marriages.LET'S BE SOCIAL:Follow Savannah Chrisley:Insta: (https://www.instagram.com/SavannahChrisley)TikTok: (https://www.tiktok.com/@SavannahChrisley)X: (https://www.x.com/_itssavannah_)Follow Matthew West:Insta: (https://www.instagram.com/matthewjwest/)TikTok: (https://www.tiktok.com/@matthewjwest)X: (https://x.com/matthew_west)YouTube: (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCs7x1ETqOho69bBQqHCJx7A)Website: (https://www.matthewwest.com/)Follow The Unlocked Podcast:Insta: (https://www.instagram.com/UnlockedWithSavannah)TikTok: (https://www.tiktok.com/@UnlockedWithSav)About Matthew West:Dubbed “one of Christian music's most prolific singer-songwriters” (Billboard), Matthew West has notched 38 No.1 songs combined as an artist and songwriter and has been awarded RIAA Gold and Platinum certifications. Indeed, the last time a real comedy film won the Best Picture Oscar was 1977, nearly a half-century ago. Why do critics think dark material is so much better than light? Joe and Mark explore the long history of this cultural bias, why it's important to think about who's making such determinations, and whether great comedy will ever receive the recognition it deserves. Shakespeare's plays are filled with unforgettable women—but too often, their voices are cut short. Ophelia never gets to defend herself. Gertrude never explains her choices. Lady Anne surrenders to Richard III in silence. In her new book, She Speaks: What Shakespeare's Women Might Have Said, acclaimed actor Dame Harriet Walter imagines what those characters might tell us if given the chance. Through original poems, Walter reimagines moments of silence, expands on fleeting lines, and provides depth to women who were left without a final word. Walter invites us to see Shakespeare's plays in a new light—reconsidering how we understand his female characters, and how their voices might transform the stories we thought we knew. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesImages and video featuring promotional artwork, including a laser light show, of Marvel's Doctor Doom surfaced last week during Walt Disney Studios' Marketing Expo in Shanghai. While many fans and outlets of varying reputation and credibility were quick to assume and label the imagery as officially tied to Avengers: Doomsday and our first look of Robert Downey Jr in the role, there is nothing in the aforementioned marketing materials that brands the content as Marvel Studios'. Still, the concept art and accompanying light show are exciting as potential teases of what this highly anticipated version of the villain may look and feel like when he finally hits the big screen next December. In a completely unexpected turn of events during a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, James Gunn dished out more details surrounding his recently announced sequel to Superman, titled Man of Tomorrow, including an intended April 2026 slate to begin filming. The filmmaker shared, “It is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat,” he said. “And it's more complicated than that. It's as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly.” On the other end of the DCU, during a red carpet appearance at the Emmys, Matt Reeves shared star Robert Pattinson's reaction to reading the long awaited script, saying “He's Batman, and if he doesn't like it, not good. I was super excited. I thought that he really would [like it] because the things that it does for his character, for Batman and for Bruce, have never been done before in this way. I had a feeling that he would respond in this way, but the fact that he did was incredibly encouraging.” It was a night of celebration for newcomer series at Sunday's 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, as HBO Max's rookie series The Pitt dominated the drama categories while Apple TV+'s The Studio swept comedy honors. Netflix's limited series Adolescence led the field with six trophies, including wins for writer-producer-star Stephen Graham, and HBO/HBO Max topped all networks with nine total Emmys, followed by Apple TV+ with seven. Notable firsts included Tramell Tillman becoming the first Black man to win Supporting Actor in a Drama for Severance, Seth Rogen claiming his first Emmy ever for The Studio, and The Penguin's Cristin Milioti bringing home the only award for the series for her portrayal of Sofia Falcone. The freshly merged Paramount/Skydance is exploring a potential bid to acquire all of Warner Brothers Discovery, according to the Wall Street Journal.Universal and Illumination have officially titled the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, taking its name from Nintendo's 2007 Wii game and setting an April 3, 2026 release date. The entire voice cast including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, and Jack Black will return for the follow-up to the record-breaking original that earned $1.36 billion worldwide.Amazon MGM/s Highlander reboot, which was set to go into principal photography this month, will now be pushed into 2026 after Henry Cavill sustained an injury during pre-production.A24 has reportedly won the bidding war for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre film and TV rights, beating out competitors including Jordan Peele and Taylor Sheridan. The horror studio plans to first develop a series from Strange Darling director JT Mollner, producer Roy Lee, and Glen Powell, though Powell will not star in the project.Oscar nominated actress Mary McDonnell has joined the cast of Marvel's upcoming Vision series, the Hollywood Reporter has learned. At this time, her role has not been disclosed.

Jean Carroll about her life and new book and I think it was one of the best conversations I've had in a long time. She makes it very easy with her humor and brilliance. I was very inspired by her story and the way she has handled it all with elegance and humor and she could not have been kinder to me. I hope we will get to talk again and I hope you will subscribe to her substack and get her book E. Jean Carroll, born Elizabeth Jean Carroll on December 12, 1943, is an American journalist, author, and advice columnist. She is best known for her long-running "Ask E. Jean" column in Elle magazine, which ran from 1993 to 2019. Carroll gained prominence for accusing Donald Trump of sexual assault in her 2019 memoir, "What Do We Need Men For? A Modest Proposal".  Early Career: Carroll began her career as a writer for magazines like Rolling Stone and Playboy, and later became a contributing editor for Esquire and Outside.  "Ask E. Jean" Column: Her advice column in Elle, which she started in 1993, became one of the longest-running in American publishing.  "What Do We Need Men For?" In her 2019 memoir, Carroll detailed the alleged sexual assault by Donald Trump in the mid-1990s, as well as other experiences with harassment and mistreatment.  Lawsuits Against Trump: Carroll sued Trump for defamation and battery related to his public denials of her allegations.  Jury Verdict: In May 2023, a jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation against Carroll and awarded her $5 million.  Carroll also hosted her own television show, "Ask E. Jean," in the 1990s.  She co-founded the dating website Greatboyfriends.com and the matchmaking service Tawkify.  She was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series in 1987.  Her book, "What Do We Need Men For?", was excerpted in New York magazine.    Be sure to visit https://www.patreon.com/PeteDominick/membership and scroll down where you should see a "Connect to Discord" button.  You can also look at https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/212052266-How-do-I-get-my-Discord-Rewards- for more info.
