The Paradise Garage. One of the most important and influential clubs in New York. Michele Saunders, a Parisian native turned lifelong New Yorker, knows it well. Growing up listening to her father's records, Michele found her passion in exploring the crossroads between Jazz and Rock at least. Her lifelong passion for music took shape when she moved to America, catching the world-famous Amateur night at the Apollo Theatre in Haarlem and experiencing the legendary Paradise Garage alongside Larry Levan. In today's chat, we discussed all this, starting from her childhood, the time spent in New York City in the 70s and 80s and, of course, the legendary Paradise Garage.Enjoy listening

On this episode, Katy represents the Soft-Spoken — or SS’s, as they preferred to be called — and shares a comforting (?) but unlikely JK Rowling theory (in reality she’s just a TERF). Then, Katy dives into her “summary” of James Balwin’s “Giovanni’s Room,” which ends up sounding a lot more like a very dark retelling of a particular animated film about a rat chef... Molly eventually takes the reigns and walks us through what actually happens in the 1956 queer classic and the sisters wrap up by answering two more of your CFLAMA questions (and Katy finally remembers what it’s called!) Powerful message from James Balwin in the beginning (My idol). Took a Monday off for important buisness & I missed you guys. Topics: White Supremacy = Terrorism, Gun control or lack there of, & some feel good stories about heroes.
Writer and photographer Samra Habib discusses the writing that made her: James Baldwin’s 1956 novel Giovanni's Room. Contains plot spoilers.
