The ladies get a nice surprise guest as Jeannie Gaffigan's daughter briefly joins them to share some deep Gen Z insights. We talk parenting boundaries, consequences, and the joy of being bored. Karen's Worst Mom of the Week is a total twat, and Kyle ends on a story about a potty-trained pigeon.
We're joined by fan favorite, author, and mom of five, Jeannie Gaffigan. The best selling writer shares how her oldest daughter wouldn't accept a Starbucks gift card because of her social justice morals while her other kid was more than willing to take it. The moms ponder what we can do to make the world better while acknowledging it's all so exhausting. Karen's Worst Mom is a real downer while Kyle's Headline is about, perhaps, the most obnoxious mom that ever walked the planet.
Writer and producer Jeannie Gaffigan talks with Ophira about raising a big family in NYC, working with her husband Jim Gaffigan and why a child can't be trusted with hot tea.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week, Paul and Dominic are joined by Mike Lewis from Where Peter Is. We initially planned on discussing papal authority, but we ended up talking about Mike's recent-near death experience before looking back on the past ten years of Pope Francis' pontificate. Specifically, we discussed the toxic and bizarre opposition towards Pope Francis that has emerged in the past decade. Mike Lewis is the founding managing editor of Where Peter Is. He and Jeannie Gaffigan co-host Field Hospital, a U.S. Catholic podcast. Mike lives in Maryland with his wife Stephanie and their four kids. Website: https://wherepeteris.com ABOUT POPE FRANCIS GENERATION Pope Francis Generation is the show for Catholics struggling with the Church's teaching, who feel like they might not belong in the Church anymore, and who still hunger for a God of love and goodness. Hosted by Paul Fahey, a professional catechist, and Dominic de Souza, someone who needs catechesis. Together, we're taking our own look at the Catholic Church– her teachings and practices- from 3 views that changed our world: the Kerygma, the doctrine of theosis, and the teachings of Pope Francis. Luckily, the brilliant Mario Dell'Olio (https://t.co/d0hSUsiOke) joined and celebrated with me. We talked about his latest book, Leters From Italy, writing, life, music and more. There are lots to learn about in this episode, from basic writing tips on how music can influence your creativeness. We celebrated 200 episodes of The Writing Community Chat Show. This show has seen 200 plus guests join the live show. We have heard some amazing life stories, writing journeys, tips and we have all laughed many times on this show. Many beers have been drunk! Welcome back to Conversation on Tap! In this episode, Jose is joined by the funny and faith-filled Jeannie Gaffigan to discuss her suffering from a brain tumor-- and how faith, family, and humor helped with her recovery. This is part two of our two-part conversation. But, first, Jose and his wife Christina talked about what they were drinking. Christina was drinking a delicious Bubly, while Jose drank some Sierra Nevada Dankful, which is very hoppy. For their FRED Talks, Jose talked about pain and suffering in the Book of Job, while Christina talked about her fears of spiders! In the main segment, Jose and Jeannie Gaffigan talked about her brain tumor and recovery. This was the stuff of Jim's stand-up, but it wasn't so funny at the moment. Jeannie's recovery was made possible by the love of her family, the development of her faith, and moments of humor. This led her to get more involved in philanthropic actions, such as the Imagine Society and Dinner with the Gaffigans. We also talked about her husband's Twitter tirade during Lou Holtz's speech at the RNC, during which he attacked Joe Biden's faith. The interview ended with Jeannie interviewing Jose about his life and teaching experience. This was definitely an awesome conversation and left an impact on Jose! In the final segment, Jose and Christina talked about the Disney movie titled Cruella, starring Emma Stone and Emma Thompson. If you missed part one of our discussion, then click on the following link: Part 1. That's all for this week, but keep up with the Podcast by following us on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Cheers!
A pear-sized brain tumor helped director, producer, and comedy writer Jeannie Gaffigan draw closer to the Blessed Mother. In this first Ave Explores podcast, Gaffigan, wife of comedian Jim Gaffigan, talks about praying the Rosary alone and with her family and how her illness helped her grow in her faith. Gaffigan's book, When Life Gives You Pears (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538751046/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1538751046&linkCode=as2&tag=katieprejean-20&linkId=f34f59ce60caa771b04c043f09ae34ec), was released in 2019.

Welcome back to Conversation on Tap! In this episode, Jose is joined by the funny and faith-filled Jeannie Gaffigan to discuss her life, her faith, her career, and more. But, first, Jose and his wife Christina talked about what they were drinking. Christina was drinking Sierra Nevada's Wanderland, a delicious nectarine ale, while Jose drank some Sierra Nevada Torpedo, which is very hoppy. For their FRED Talks, Jose talked about how readers of the Bible sometimes overlook Jesus' humor in his parables, while Christina talked about the history of roller derby. In the main segment, Jose and Jeannie Gaffigan talked about her life. This was a long discussion, so this will only be part one of two. We discuss her childhood in Milwaukee, how she came to enjoy working in the theater, teaching Shakespeare to teens, and her hilarious altercation with Jim Gaffigan that led to them eventually getting married and having five kids. We also talked about her book When Life Gives You Pears and their TV Land Show The Jim Gaffigan Show. This part of the interview ends with her taking her children to the doctor and learning that she herself needed immediate medical attention. Check out next week's episode for the rest of the story! In the final segment, Jose talked about the Amazon Prime movie titled Without Remorse, and Christina talked about the Iration's latest album Coastin. Be sure to come back next week for part two of Jose's interview with Jeannie Gaffigan! That's all for this week, but keep up with the Podcast by following us on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Cheers!

What does it mean to laugh in the face of hardship? Living through 2020, we experienced life as dramatic, intense, and often heartbreaking. Yet at certain points—while donning a mask before walking into a convenience store, gazing adoringly at our stockpile of toilet paper, or scrambling to re-learn algebra one day ahead of a struggling 8th grader—we realized that life could also be absurd. Saturday night of the Encounter featured a roast of 2020, a moment to revel in the absurdity of certain situations and take joy in the glimmers of light of a difficult year.
SUMT welcomes their first guest, Jeannie Gaffigan - actor, writer, and supermom homeschooling 5 kids! She shares how she monitors 5 kids in lockdown, and we diagnose Hilaria Baldwin on part 2 of España-gate.

Today, I'm so excited to welcome Jeannie Gaffigan. Jeannie is is a writer, producer, and active catholic. She and her husband, comedian Jim Gaffigan have five kids, and live in New York City. Our chat today covers lots of experiences over the past few months, including what happened the night in August when Jim went viral in a now infamous tweet storm during the Republican National Convention. I love Jeannie's candor, humor, and humanity she shares here, and I know you'll appreciate her takes on faith, learning as a mom of five, and leading in complicated days… --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bettersects/message
I'm jealous of Jeannie Gaffigan's brain tumor. Not the tumor itself. Or the feeding tube. Or side effects. But I'm jealous of the community that came to her side. I told her, "I'm afraid that if this ever happens to me, I won't have the love and support that you've built up over the years." She had a mega support system... neighbors and family who got her the best doctors, plus friends and colleagues who worked with her when she wrote and produced "The Jim Gaffigan Show." She laughed. Because it's the weirdest thing to be jealous of. But she understood. And told me not to worry. "I had no idea I had this [support system]. It took this. You have it. You just don't know. Like me. I didn't know it." She wrote all about this in her new book, "When Life Gives You Pears: The Healing Power of Family, Faith, and Funny People." Which you can also listen to on Audible. It'll make you laugh. And help you feel more connected. And more capable of handling life's hardest moments. Jeannie Gaffigan had a lot on her plate. She was raising five kids, writing comedy with her husband Jim, and producing a television sitcom. She was so busy taking care of others that she forgot to take care of herself. Jeannie tells Marc how that self-neglect led to the inadvertent discovery of a brain tumor the size of a pear, a ten-hour surgery to remove it, and the complications that threatened her life. Now, on the road to a full recovery, Jeannie is learning how to let go of some of the control she used to rely on and embrace the messiness of life.
