In this thought-provoking episode of Family Vision, Dr. Rob & Amy Rienow explore the complex and often humorous world of artificial intelligence (AI) and its reflections on marriage. The episode begins with a light-hearted experiment where Karl Bastian uses ChatGPT to generate jokes about marriage, revealing the internet's skewed perspective! Rob and Amy dive deep into the contrast between these AI-generated views and the biblical understanding of marriage. They discuss the importance of leaving, cleaving, and becoming one, as outlined in Genesis 2:26, and how modern culture often inverts this divine order. The They share insights from their own journey and the challenges they faced in aligning their marriage with God's blueprint. Listeners will be encouraged to examine their own views on marriage, consider the impact of cultural influences, and rediscover the beauty and purpose of marriage as intended by God. Join the Rienows for a refreshing look at marriage, blending humor, personal experience, and biblical wisdom. Today on the podcast, Sean shares a portion of Karl Bastian’s breakout from the 2019 Preteen Conference. Karl Bastian is a children’s pastor in Aurora Colorado. His goal is to be relevant with todays kids and he tries to keep up on their current culture. You can learn more about Karl and Kidology by visiting his website. He emphasizes he is not an expert in this field but by the name it suggests he is always learning and staying current on all things kids. Kidology comes from the concept of having a ministry that is within the culture and world of kids. To be a great kids pastor Karl suggests that you have to stay current with what is popular in their culture. He suggests never losing that passion because it is such a powerful tool for ministry. Karl suggests questioning ever your newcomers interests and references a form which you can find here. We need to be knowledgeable about the culture, so that in the case of biblical issues we are able to correct them. If you like what you heard today and want to hear the rest of Karl’s breakout session along with 28 others you can purchase the set of recordings here. Today on the podcast, Sean shares an excerpt from Karl Bastian’s session at the 2018 Preteen Leaders’ Online Conference. Karl explains how adults in churches are reluctant to serve, only about 20%. On the other hand, if you ask the preteens in your ministry to help, the numbers are much higher; Karl has even seen 100%. Preteens want to help. If we don’t train up kids and teens to serve, then why would we expect them to serve as adults. We train them to come to church and sit and watch versus training them know to serve, get it in their DNA when they are young, and we won’t be hunting down volunteers to help out. Karl recalls a mentor who challenged him whether he was a performer or a trainer. The goal is that we get the willingness to serve in their DNA because many will go into ministry when they get older because they got a taste when they were younger and enjoyed it. Church becomes a place where they ask to serve because it was a part of who they are. We are discipling them and part of being a disciple is doing God’s work. Kids can set an example for others in the church. The disciples were actually young but look at the differences they were able to make in our world.
