Each week BusinessDesk and the NZ Herald's Cooking the Books podcast tackles a different money problem. Today, it's the best ways to start the money conversation, and avoid a fight. Hosted by Frances Cook. This episode is brought to you by Milford Asset Management. Money is the great unspoken force in many of our lives, making certain things possible, and keeping other things out of reach. But there's huge power in starting to talk about it, especially with those we're close to. If you're coupled up, it's really important to be on the same page as your partner, to make sure that you're not accidentally sabotaging each other. There's more than one way to successfully share your finances, but the key is, you do need to know what your strategy is. There's also the matter of talking to your kids about money, or even your own parents. These money conversations can be crucial, but also so hard to have. We all bring our own baggage to the conversation, which can make it more likely for emotions to flare up. For the latest episode, I spoke to Kate Power from Milford Asset Management I'm on Facebook here, Instagram here, and Twitter here.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A 60’s teenager goes on to start a performance venu, music school and music shop, and a musician makes music for yoga class events. This is episode 53 of Caffe Lena : 60 Years of Song. Thank you to Sarah at the Caffe for the list of songs and artists for the feature. Kate Power came of age during the epic 60’s NY folk scene. As a teenager, she opened for Townes Van Zant and Utah Phillips in coffee shops and on festival stages. After migrating to the west coast, she met her husband, fellow musician Steve Einhorn. Together, these lifelong musicians and songwriters owned Artichoke Music, a renowned performance venue, music school and instrument shop in Portland, OR. Kev Corbett hails from Nova Scotia and his music is equal parts cerebral folk writing and concise musical arrangements. When not combining the two or accompanying others, he runs Savasanaface (sha-VA-sun-a-face), which provides live ambient electric music for yoga class events. January 25, 2017 Back in the coffeeshop again. That coffeeshop being World Cup Coffee and Tea at NW 18th and Glisan. Man, this is number 88…and I’m not tired of doing them. Today the other half of Kate Power and Steve Einhorn is here. The Steve half. They came back to Portland in January of 2015. They had been gone for four and a half years. For decades they were the owners of Artichoke Music, a store and teaching center, but more importantly, the hub of stringed instruments and song in Portland. It was a welcoming place to visit. There was always someone playing an instrument, many times one or both of the proprietors who also had a thriving career as a performing/recording duo. Kate did a Coffeeshop Conversation about a year ago, separately and now Steve is here to talk about…well, everything but also about a show they’re doing at Artichoke, their final show before the place moves. It's also the release gig for their new album Portland Romace and a benefit for Artichoke. Saturday, February 11, 8pm, $25 donations accepted at the door. Tickets. Meet Steve Einhorn who says he has a gift for me. More on that later…
April 28, 2016 An apology to Ms. Day and the rest of you. The author of this piece made a stupid mistake when recording and it sounds like we're in the bottom of a large metal cylinder. The author of this article feels like an idiot. Sorry. --The Author of this Article Welcome to World Cup Coffee and Tea at NW 18th and Glisan for another Oregon Music News Coffeeshop Conversation. In the coffeeshop with me today is Valerie Day, who with her husband John Smith are Nu Shooz, the Oregon Music Hall of Fame band who’s tune, “I Can’t Wait” is still, after thirty years, still one of those tunes that can easily get stuck in your head all day. And it does all over the world, every single day. I’ll ask her how she feels about being responsible for that. They have a new album called Bagtown coming out in May. There’s more than one story behind that. Coffeshop Conversations are always one-on-one…even this one. I told her that if Kate Power would do one with the Steve Einhorn, than she could too. And she did.
September 3, 2105 Thanks for coming back to Oregon Music News’ Coffeeshop Conversations at World Cup Coffee and Tea at Northwest 18th and Glisan in Portland. With me is Kate Power...singer, guitarist, ukulele-ist or is it ukulele-ian…well she’s known for her ukulele playing too. Kate and husband Steve Einhorn came back to Portland in January. They had been gone for four and a half years. For decades they were the owners of Artichoke Music, a store and teaching center, but more importantly, the hub of stringed instruments and song in Portland. It was a welcoming place to visit. There was always someone playing an instrument, many times one or both of the proprietors who had a thriving career as a performing/recording duo. They still do! They gave up the store in 2006. The rest, we’ll find out about.

Let's Talk Communication with Telana Simpson | Conversations that Count
There are certain meaningful and important conversations that we need to have with children, but often the tricky conversations are not had, as we find them so uncomfortable to explore. Rod and Kate Power share some ideas on how to talk with children about sensitive topics, like how to protect their private parts, in an attempt to empower children against sexual abuse. They have created a useful tool to help parents have this uncomfortable conversation in an engaging and empowering way, helping both parents and children. Among other tips, they talk with Telana about developing trust, giving children permission to talk up when they are violated, the importance of listening to children and tips on how to handle the situation with a child if you suspect abuse. Let's Talk Possibility with Telana Simpson | Exploring what's possible
Rod and Kate Power have created a useful tool for parents to help empower their children, in the form of a book called "My Underpants Rule". It makes having the tricky conversations around protecting your "private parts" easier to have, with a focus on empowerment, without having to explain sexual abuse. To prevent sexual assault and child abuse, Rod and Kate's vision is to empower children to break the secrecy around the abuse, and give them tools to know when to speak up and what actions to take. This is a must have for all parents, to make parenting to create empowered adults engaging and easy. For more info see: Website: www.myunderpantsrule.com and http://talkpossibility.innercoaching.co.za/how-to-empower-children-against-child-sexual-abuse-episode-133
