Paul and Rose take their relationship to the next step.by senor longo. Listen to the ► Podcast at Connected.“Paul; that was so exciting. I guess that when it's in my pussy it will shoot all that sperm into my womb. Isn't that how it's supposed to work?”“You, uh; were supposed to get out of the way.”“I know, but I thought it might be more fun this way; and I was right. I loved having it spurt all over me. I think I need a shower.” She seemed to notice the mess on her fingers for the first time so she brought them to her mouth for a tentative taste. “Hmm, a bit salty, but otherwise kind of interesting; maybe tomorrow night I'll try to swallow it all.”“I think I might enjoy that.” I stole a quick kiss then tried to wipe my cum from her body with a towel I'd remembered to bring.“Why don't we wet the towel?” Rose suggested.I jumped up and walked to the water. I had just bent over to moisten the towel when I felt her hands on my butt. A second later I tumbled into the 56-degree water. I'd been in the Long Island Sound in May before so I had a good idea what to expect. It was Cold! I turned around to see Rose laughing.“Okay, you got me. It's a good thing I'm in love with you. C'mon, help me up, will you?” I was almost to my knees when she extended her hand; big mistake. I pulled her onto my body as I fell back.“Ah; oh! Damn, Paul; it's cold.” All I could do was laugh and soon enough she joined me. We were two freezing maniacs laughing as I rose and carried her up the beach. I walked tenderly back down for the towel. It would normally take a few weeks before my feet grew accustomed to walking over the pebbles, especially once the skin was softened by becoming wet.I dried Rose as best I could, but she was already drying herself with her clothes.“I'm pretty sure there'd be hell to pay if I came home wet and my clothes were dry.” she said, giggling.“You know, we're both eighteen; legally adults.” I declared some independence.“I know, but we're both still in school and we're both still living at home. I guess that means we have to follow some rules.” I kissed her cheek as I dried her hair. I knew she was right, but that didn't mean I liked it. On the positive side all traces of semen on her chest and stomach had washed away.I went in with her, expecting her parents to be shocked at our condition. I was right. “Rose! Paul! What on earth happened?” Our hair was drenched; Rose wore one of my sweatshirts and an old pair of gym shorts. I was shirtless, but wearing a pair of sweatpants that matched Rose's shirt with no shoes or socks.“You have an evil daughter, Aunt Celia.” My tone of voice told everyone that I was kidding. “We went to the beach and I bent down to test the watertemperature.”“Yeah, Paul; you looked so funny doing that somersault into the water.” Rose chuckled.“Rose! You didn't!” Celia was shocked by her daughter's behavior.“So, here I was pretty much wet and freezing so I figured tit for tat would be appropriate. I asked for some help; and when Rose reached for me ,I pulled her in, too. Lucky I had some spare clothes in the back of my truck. Rose changed in the truck; I changed in the far end of the parking lot.”“Oh, I swear; you two. Shame on you, Rose.”“I already apologized and it was accepted.”“Yes,” I admitted as I kissed her cheek. “I'll see you tomorrow night. By the way, we're going fishing. Trust me, you'll love it.”Rose laughed. She knew exactly what she'd love about fishing then she reached up to peck my lips. I said good night to Aunt Celia and handed Rose a plastic bag with her sodden clothes. Needless to say, my mother knew all about it by the time I had driven home.CHAPTER 3The following night we skipped the movies, the drive-in, the miniature golf, and everything else, driving straight to the beach with a few rods, reels, and other equipment tucked safely in the truck's bed. There were a few other couples and even a few fishermen there in the fading light, but we ignored them, walking more than a quarter mile from the parking lot. I spread the blanket, prepped the rods even going so far as to cast deep into the water. A set of sand spikes held the rods vertical when we lay down to a lengthy make-out session.Rose and I were all over each other. No longer were we reluctant to hold or touch each other. My hands roamed her body, stopping at each breast and nipple before reaching down into her shorts to her gushing pussy. Rose laughed, “I think my face and my pussy are even wetter than they were last night.” I joined her laughter as I slowly wiped the spit from both our faces. I'd leave the nectar for later.Once it was dark we had the beach to ourselves. I began to slowly remove her clothes; her top, bra, shorts, and panties. Rose removed my shirt, shorts, and briefs. We lay together chest to chest on the rough blanket. I broke our kiss to move my lips and mouth down her body, around each of those breasts I adored to her sensitive navel. My tongue tickled her here until she screamed, “Uncle!” Finally, I reached my objective, climbing between her legs. The broad surface of my tongue cleaned her of juice all the way from her anus to her clit. I repeated several times until her labia were red and enflamed with her desire. I shifted my attention to her tunnel. In and out; I fucked her with the most amazing tenderness and love. Rose reacted wildly, thrashing back and forth across the blanket.I kept at her for more than ten minutes before making my final move to her clit. Sucking it between my teeth brought her to the sweetest, the most exquisite orgasm. It continued as long as I worried her sensitive bud. Eventually, I took mercy on her and stopped. I climbed back up her body to hold her and caress her head to my chest. It was almost a half hour later that she returned to normal. “Oh God, Paul; I thought last night was intense, but it was nothing in comparison to tonight. It began when your tongue was inside me and it never stopped.” She looked at my face several times and from several angles in the light of the gibbous moon. “Paul; what's that all over your face?”Now it was my turn to laugh. “It's you, Rose; your ejaculate. I remember reading something in the Playboy Advisor a few months ago. It's called ‘squirting.'”“Oh no; did I pee on you? I'm so sorry, Paul.”“Don't worry, Rose; you didn't. It doesn't smell anything like urine. In fact, I love the way it; you; taste. All I know is that one second I was noshing on your clit and the next I was swimming. It tastes like your juice; you know; that stuff that seems to run down your legs whenever we're together.”“I'm kinda partial to that stuff that runs down YOUR legs and I'm going to see that as soon as I recover. Do you think those Playboy letters are real, Paul?”“Who knows? I'd guess that some of them are, but I think that it's the answers that have to be real even if the letters aren't.”Rose rested for almost a half hour. I didn't mind. I got to hold her and experience the touch of her sensational smooth skin against mine. I loved when she rubbed her hard nipples against my hairy chest. She began by kissing my neck then kissing her way down my body, stopping once she had reached my hard cock. She began by licking all around my balls then up the sensitive underside of my organ. Once around the head was but a prelude to trying to swallow it whole. It was a great idea, but it was clear that Rose would have to practice quite a bit to reach that goal. I was happy when she made it half-way. She used her tongue to force my cock up and into the roof of her mouth. She had done it for only five minutes before I felt that old familiar churning. “Rose!” I tried to warn her, but she paid me no heed. My hips bucked as I spurted over and over into her mouth and throat. She kept on sucking, but semen poured from the corners of her mouth, running down to her breasts and abdomen. She took one look down and broke out laughing. Luckily, she had released my cock first.“I think I need more practice at that; lots and lots of practice.” She laughed and I joined her a second later.“I'll buy that, especially the ‘lots and lots' part. I'll be happy to practice my part, too.” We laughed again as I pulled her up for another kiss, my semen smearing between our bodies. I wasn't worried. I'd come prepared with a gallon of water in my truck and several towels in the bucket by the fishing rods.We had hugged each other for almost a half hour when Rose sat up suddenly. “Paul, why haven't you gotten any bites? Isn't that unusual?”“Not really; if one wants to catch fish it's usually necessary to use some bait. I want to go next weekend. The blacks usually come in around Memorial Day weekend. Want to come with me?”I was wiping her chest clean when she responded. We laid out our plans while we rested. Before leaving we tried to “69.” It was just as incredible as our earlier oral attempts. Rose squirted all over my face and a fair portion of my semen escaped Rose's mouth, running down my legs to the blanket. We picked up the area and walked back to the truck naked where I washed Rose's body and she washed mine. I dropped her off just before one and drove home where I fell asleep almost immediately. The following weekend; Memorial Day; marked the opening of the summer season. It was also the beginning of the fishing season and the time we'd set to take Rose's virginity. Now that we were naked Rose pulled me down to the blanket with her. It was clean and soft. I'd had a difficult time explaining to my mother why it needed fabric softener when it's only for the beach. When I told her that Rose had complained about it the discussion ended. Mom loved Rose; had ever since we'd met more than ten years ago.Now Rose lay back on the soft blanket. We kissed and touched each other. She found me hard; I found her wet. I showed her how to apply the condom to my organ and climbed between her legs. I could tell that she was eager. She pulled me to her, wrapped her legs around my waist, and placed my cock at the entrance to her womanhood. “Now Paul; please do it now. I love you, Paul. Please make us one.” We'd spoken about it so many times. She knew it would hurt at first so I moved into her slowly; easily. I loved the expression on her face as her pussy adjusted to my girth. I pushed until I met the inevitable resistance. “Do it, Paul; just a few minutes hurt for a lifetime of pleasure with you.” I plunged forward, stopping immediately to comfort my love.I wiped the tears from her cheeks with my kisses as I caressed her head, running my fingers through her silken hair. It was only five minutes later that she told me, “Do it, Paul. Do me!” I did, pushing all the way into her, until our pubic hairs meshed. The look on Rose's face was one of pure ecstasy as she began to move with me. She met my every thrust with one of her own. I was so caught up with what I was doing that I had failed to notice the moans of pleasure coming from Rose's mouth. Now that we were fucking hard and fast those moans had grown into groans and then grunts. She was moving like a wild animal when I heard her scream. It was followed by a flood onto my abdomen. Seconds later the condom was flooded with sperm as I pumped into Rose with incredible force. I collapsed onto her chest, leaning down to kiss and caress her face.I moved back up about a minute later and our eyes met. “Well?”Rose's response was to pull me back down into a long, wet, and extremely passionate kiss with her tongue plunging into my mouth. She broke it some minutes later. “Paul; oh, Paul it was incredible. I can't begin to tell you how many times I came.”“How many? What do you mean?”“I had my first orgasm about twenty seconds after you entered me. Then I had another and another and another. They were coming so fast that they all blended into one huge explosion. That's when I screamed.”“That's not all you did.” Give me your hand. I pulled out of her and brought her hand to my abdomen. Even in the pale moonlight I could see how startled she was.“Is that me again? Did I; what was the word you used?”“You mean; squirt? Ha. Ha. It was more like a flood.” Don't be embarrassed. I loved it. I loved knowing that you enjoyed making love with me.”“I didn't enjoy it. I loved every second, even the part that hurt. I know now that I'm a real woman.”I laughed again. “I never had a doubt. I've always thought of you as the ultimate; .”“Yeah,” Rose interrupted, “but you're in love with me; hardly an unbiased resource. I'm sorry I made a mess of you.”“I'm not; you can do that to me any time you want; on any part of my body you want. Now, let me clean us up a bit and rest. Then we can try it again; maybe in a different position.” I finished wiping her abdomen, removed the condom and buried it in the sand, and finished with my abdomen. I lay back with Rose astride my body to rest.“What are you doing tomorrow,” Rose whispered.“I have to work most of the day. I have Mr. Gentile and Mr. Kane. I'm not looking forward to dealing with him. He demands good service, but he never wants to pay. Maybe I'll dump him and spend the time at Mr. Gentile's. He wants me to do his beds as well as his lawn. Other than those two jobs I have the weekend free to spend with you.”“Don't forget the cookout we're having Sunday after church.”“I'll never forget a chance to spend the entire day with you.”“I know that, but don't forget that Eric and my parents will be there too and, of course, your parents and Mary.” Rose may have been talking, but her body was moving all over mine. After thirty minutes I was hard and ready to go again. I gave Rose one of the condoms. She rolled it down my shaft and then, following my instructions to the letter, sat on me; my organ disappearing into her body. It was incredible watching me enter and disappear into her. Rose began to rock forward and back in time with my thrusts. We continued moving together while I massaged her tender breast tissue and rolled her sensitive nipples between my fingers. It wasn't long before an orgasm hit. I say “an orgasm” because it was obvious from my vantage point that she experienced at least eight and each one only served to increase the rapture she was experiencing. Finally, just before I was ready she arched her back severely and screamed into the night. Rose fell rather than collapsed onto my chest just as my orgasm hit. I drove her up six times before we came to rest completely satiated and completely exhausted. Thank God it was only 10:35.We recovered slowly. I removed my cock from her and wiped my abdomen again. It was covered with her thick aromatic juice. Once done, I got a new towel and wiped her crotch. She still leaked even though the sex had ended. All told I spent almost half an hour making us presentable. We were still naked as we lay together. “I just love the way you feel, Rose. Your skin is so smooth and so soft and you're so sexy. I love your face and your breasts and your tummy, your ass, your legs; damn, I love every part of you, but I love the whole you even more.”“I'll bet you can't guess what I love best about you.”“Well, I know now that you love my cock.”“Of course, silly and I'll always love that; even when we're sixty, but that's not my favorite part.” I lay there for almost ten minutes unable to guess. “It's this,” she said as she pointed to my forehead.”“You love my forehead best?”“No, Paul; I love what's in there; your brain; your essence. Did you know that you were the only person who visited me every day when I was sick? Even my own dad didn't come to see me as much as you did. I know you could have been out playing with your friends, but you spent more than an hour with me every day reading to me and holding my hand. I knew then that you were a special person; that you were MY special person. Now you really are MY special person.”“Rose, you said something about loving my cock even when we're sixty. We haven't really talked about it, but I want us to be together forever. I can't formally ask you to marry me because I have no way to support you. But I will ask you as soon as that day comes. Meanwhile we will still have a lot to think about, like what we'll do when I'm in college and you're still in school. Don't worry; we'll work it out so we're never apart.” Rose held me even closer then and gave me the kiss of my life; the best kiss I could possibly imagine. Regretfully, we had to dress and leave once it was done.CHAPTER 4I was up early the following morning. After breakfast I drove to Sycamore Drive where my two customers lived. They couldn't have been more different. Dennis Kane was a cheap skinflint who was always looking to get something for nothing. John Gentile was a kind, generous man. I was much more inclined to work for him than for Mr. Kane, that's for sure. I had parked in Kane's driveway when Mr. Kane appeared. “Good morning, Mr. Kane. I need to remind you that you didn't pay me for last week.”“Don't worry about that. I'll take care of you once you're done.”“That's not how I work, Mr. Kane. I require payment when services are performed. You owe me seven bucks.”“I said I'd pay you once you were done and that's what I'll do.” I returned my tools to the truck and lifted the tailgate to secure it. I walked to the cab to enter when he spoke again. “Listen, you little bastard; you get out here and mow this lawn. If you don't; .”“You'll what, Mr. Kane? Beat me up? That I'd like to see.”“If I called the cops who do you think they'd believe?”“I think they'd believe Mr. Gentile,” I said, pointing across the street to where Mr. Gentile had observed the entire matter. “So long, Mr. Kane; enjoy mowing your lawn. Consider last week's job as a parting gift.” I backed out and drove three houses down the block to see Mr. Gentile.“Morning, Paul; let me guess; he didn't want to pay you.”“Right on, sir. He owed me for last week and wanted me to mow before paying me. Ten to one he'd be gone by the time I finished. I don't need customers like that. He threatened me with calling the cops and trumping up some charge so I was really glad you were out here. You'd be a good witness. Why don't you show me what you want me to do?”Mr. Gentile showed me around the property. It was bigger than our yard with lots of shrubbery and several trees. He told me what he wanted, but listened to several suggestions I had. All told we spent a half hour going over everything. He offered me $50 for the additional work which I thought more than fair. I worked almost all day, quitting only for lunch and when I was done. He approved immensely of the job I had done. I was surprised when he asked me to come by tomorrow around one to discuss a summer job. He promised me more money than I could make doing lawns. I explained that I had a family obligation, but would try to get away for half an hour.I was beat after spending the entire day cutting the lawn, digging and trimming the beds, and spreading mulch. I drove home, called Rose and hopped into the shower. The hot water did wonders for my sore muscles. I ate a quick dinner before driving over to see Rose and take her back to the beach; this time to do some actual fishing. We joined some friends who had already caught some small blacks. I baited our hooks and cast the rods, handing one to Rose, keeping the other for myself. We were there for almost an hour when I heard Ryan make a crude comment about Rose; a comment that would have been better left unsaid. I put the rod down and walked his way. I didn't raise my voice. I didn't have to. Ryan got the message; keep your big mouth shut or risk the beating of your life. Ryan was bigger than me, but he was mostly flab while I was firm muscle. Once he knew how things were between Rose and me he walked over to Rose to apologize. It helped that Rose had not heard him. The remark was really offensive. The sun had set when the fish moved in. Blackfish typically would be found in rocky areas. When fishing from the shore that meant keeping the hook and sinker in the rocky band that was about twenty feet wide. Cast too far and you'd wind up in the barren sandy expanse that made up most of the Sound's bottom. Cast not far enough and you'd be in the pebbles where nothing grew or lived. My secret was to cast deep into the sandy expanse and reel into the rocks. I could tell by the action of the sinker exactly where my line was. It was a practice that had always worked in the past and it worked now.I had just cast Rose's line and handed the rod to her. She thanked me with a kiss then shooed me away to deal with a bite. Rose was an accomplished fisherman. We'd fished many times and we both knew that she could bait her own hook and cast her own line. I liked to do it for her so I did. I had a nibble just as she brought what looked like a three-pounder to the beach. I would have helped her, but I had my own fish to deal with. This was typical of fishing for blackfish. Many times I had stood or sat for hours with nothing happening only to spend the next hour fighting one fish after another. Tonight we spent more than an hour like that, throwing all but the biggest fish back to be caught another day. After catching four big ones, all over four pounds, we called it a night. We set our rods down onto the beach and walked hand in hand into the darkness. Of course, our friends knew what we were going to do; at least they thought they did. We had gone almost a half mile when Rose turned into me and pulled me into a long lingering kiss. Her hands roamed over my body. Mine did the same to her. I was surprised to find she hadn't worn any panties.“Oh Rose, you naughty girl; what do you have in mind?“Does this tell you?” She pushed a condom into my hand.“You are so incorrigible.” She laughed and pulled me down to the pebbles. I lay on my back with Rose astride me as she unzipped my shorts and pulled my hard manhood from within. She enclosed it within the condom then used her shorts and blouse as a pillow for my head. I grinned unseen as she lowered herself onto me. “As I said, Rose; you are incorrigible. I think I've created a monster. Everyone will know what we're doing when you scream.”“I don't care. All I know is how badly I need you.” I was engulfed by her hot tight pussy by the time she finished her statement. Even through the latex shield I could feel the heat and tightness of Rose as her muscles squeezed me tightly. We moved together as we had last night and with the same result; Rose came and came and came, her orgasm culminating in a massive convulsion that shook her body for several seconds. She screamed as it ended, finally reclaiming control of her body. I held her tightly as I repeatedly blew my load into the rubber. It took Rose almost fifteen minutes to recover. By then I had buried the condom and made a weak attempt to clean my abdomen of Rose's cum. I took her to the water's edge to rinse her skin before dressing her and walking back to our friends. I could see Ryan smirk at our appearance. “Keep your thoughts to yourself, Ryan. At least I have a girlfriend and she's much more than a girlfriend to me. You might keep that in mind while I beat the living shit out of you. When's the last time you had a date?” I knew that would cut into him; he was an eighteen year old virgin who'd never had a date. Worse, in my mind, his father was one of my customers. Why would the father of an eighteen year old son need someone to mow his lawn? I cleaned our fish at the water's edge and we walked back to the truck. We loaded the gear and I drove Rose home. Her eyes were still glazed over and I was sure Aunt Celia noticed although she never said anything. I took the fish fillets to the sink and washed them before bagging them and placing them in the refrigerator. I had sent Rose to the bathroom. She returned a few minutes later looking a lot cleaner. I stayed for almost an hour before setting a time to pick her up for church tomorrow. Not surprisingly, my mom was on the phone when I returned home three minutes later. I knew it was Aunt Celia; who else would call at 12:15 in the middle of the night?I picked Rose up at 9:20 for the drive to St. Anthony's. Rose and I always went to confession before Mass. We'd have a lot to confess this morning and, I suspected, many Sunday mornings to come. I went to confession because my mother and Rose wanted me to. Personally, I found the idea of saying you were sorry for doing things that you'd do again and again, like masturbating and now making love with Rose, was silly. I'd say my Hail Mary's and other prayers as my penance, but I'd be back again next week to confess to the very same sins to the very same priest and for the very same penance. I'd listened to the same lecture on self-control and having respect for my body more than a hundred times already. As usual, Rose and I sat apart from our families. After Mass we walked out to find Mr. Gentile waiting for us. “I saw you inside, Paul, and I thought we might speak now rather than have you take time this afternoon. Do you know where I work?”“Some golf course, I think.”“Yeah; St. George's in East Setauket. It's a very exclusive club and it takes a lot to keep all the grass and plants in order. That's my job; I'm Superintendent. I like the way you work and, more important, you seem to enjoy it. I'll offer you a summer job at $5.00 an hour. You'll work a minimum of 40 hours a week so you'll earn a minimum of $200 a week. Of course, I'll have to deduct federal and state withholding and social security, but you'll get most of it back when you file because you're a student. It's a bit of a hike from here, but you have a truck. I have to tell you; you'll have to be there early at 6:00, but you'll finish early most days around three. Why don't you talk it over with your parents? You can let me know sometime during the week.” He shook my hand and left.“What do you think, Paul,” Rose asked once we were in the truck.“It sounds interesting, mostly because I could continue to do my mowing work, most of it anyway. Of course, I'll want to spend all my free time with you.”“I was hoping you'd say that. Paul, I was thinking; what do you think our parents would do if they knew about; you know?”“Well, I have a feeling Aunt Celia already knows. You were still kind of out of it when I brought you home last night. She didn't say anything so; . I know she was on the phone with Mom when I got home last night.” I started the truck and drove home. Later, just before lunch we'd go to Rose's house for the big Memorial Day cookout. It had been a family tradition since we had moved here twelve years ago.Rose walked into the kitchen to hug and kiss my mom and dad before coming to my room with me. She sat on the bed while I changed in the closet. We'd done this dozens of times, at least, although not since we'd become a couple. I walked out five minutes later in a tee-shirt, shorts, and sandals; quite a contrast to Rose in her church dress. I leaned down to kiss her. It was relatively chaste, but Rose whispered, “Paul; you make me so hot. All I can think of is doing it with you.”“Me, too; unfortunately we'll have to wait. C'mon.” I took her hand and led her to the living room. My parents were there reading the Sunday Newsday and the Sunday edition of the New York Times. Rose and I sat together on the couch. “Mom, Dad; Mr. Gentile offered me a job at St. George's Country Club.”“That's quite a distance from here, isn't it?”“Yeah, but he'll pay me $5.00 an hour from 6:00 to at least 3:00, a minimum of forty hours a week. I could probably keep most, if not all, of my current customers. Oh yeah, I dumped Mr. Kane yesterday.”“We know. He called yesterday to complain. Your father ignored him. We know what a cheapskate he can be. What do you think, Paul? You're the one who'll have to do all the work.”“I think I'd enjoy it. I doubt that they do much hand mowing so I'd learn to use the machines. I'm sure I'll have to do some digging, but that just helps me stay in shape for football. I like Mr. Gentile. He's a good guy and he's always very fair. I'm inclined to accept.” That was that; I had a summer job. Any lawns I couldn't handle I'd give to my good friend Brian. He had helped me in the past and was always looking for some extra money.Rose and I left for the cookout around noon, stopping off to see Mr. Gentile on the way. He was pleased that I'd accepted. It was only two blocks from there to Rose's house. We walked through to the back yard. I hugged and kissed Aunt Celia and shook hands with Uncle Carl. Rose took my hand and led me to the hammock. I lay back on it and Rose joined me. It was cozy for the two of us, her breasts pressing against me. I was a little concerned about her parents, but so far not a word had been spoken. I heard the doorbell a few minutes later as my parents and Mary arrived. Dad and Mary walked out to the backyard with Uncle Carl and Eric. Uncle Carl opened several cans of beer and Eric brought one to me.“Thanks, Eric; want to play some ball later?” I knew he'd agree. He always wanted to play some kind of ball with me. I took a sip and handed the can to Rose. She wasn't a big fan of beer, but she would drink it as opposed to some girls who only wanted wine or a cocktail. For some reason New York was the only state in the area where eighteen year olds could legally drink. One day soon I was sure New York would join all the other states in setting the legal age at twenty-one. That wouldn't bother me; I could take drinking or leave it.While we lounged in the yard our mothers were in the kitchen preparing food and, I was sure, talking about us. “They make a lovely couple, don't you think, Martha?”“Yes, they do, but I often wonder whether I should have told Paul that we weren't really related.”“Oh, I think it was a good decision. I know that Paul will take good care of Rose unlike some of the boys I know like Ryan. I'd hate to see Rose on a date with him.”“Yes, I suppose what you say is true. I wonder if they've; you know; done it.”“If I had to guess I'd say yes. You should have seen the expression on Rose's face when Paul brought her home last night. I was actually envious. I woke poor Carl from a sound sleep and fucked his lights out.”“Well, I hope Paul doesn't hurt her. I don't know if I could bear that. Although; when I first told him that he said he wouldn't because he loves Rose. He also said he was in it for the long haul. I've wondered exactly what he meant by that.”“Why not ask him?”“Maybe I will, but for now; let's get this food outside. Hmmm, I wonder if she inherited your; .”“Oh God! You would remember that. I was so embarrassed when all my friends heard my scream. Even now Carl has to stuff my mouth with a towel. I used to wake the children when they were younger. At least they couldn't ask what was going on, but now; . Well, I guess we'll never know.” They grabbed the rolls, burgers, hot dogs, and potato salad. There was so much they would have to make two trips. To be continued in part 3. by senor longo for Sex Stories.
It's Friday, June 21st, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Armenian Christian man received 10-year prison sentence in Iran After losing a court appeal in early June, Armenian Hakop Gochymayan received a 10-year prison sentence for allegedly participating in Christian activities in Iran, reports International Christian Concern. Gochymayan and his wife, Elisa, who is of Iranian descent and has family in Iran, were detained near Tehran in August 2023. In a report from Barnabas Aid, the couple was “placed in solitary confinement and subjected to intense psychological torture.” Hebrews 13:3 says, “Don't forget those who are in prison. Remember them as though you were in prison with them. And don't forget those who are suffering. Remember them as though you were suffering with them.” Authorities in Pardis, Iran, arrested the couple, who were in the country visiting friends and family as they dined at an acquaintance's home. Reportedly, the Armenian man had several copies of the New Testament, written in the Persian language of Farsi, and had attended multiple churches during his stay. In an attempt to dissuade conversions, it is illegal in Iran to speak to non-Christians about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to have Bibles written in Farsi, which is the nation's official language. According to Open Doors, Iran is the ninth most difficult country worldwide in which to be a Christian. Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un sign pact in China's shadow Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a new pact Wednesday that includes a pledge of mutual defense if either is attacked, reports NBC News. The agreement was sealed at a summit in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, during a rare visit by Putin to the reclusive nuclear-armed state as both countries face growing confrontations with the West. The BBC noted that the real power in the region was not in Pyongyang, nor did it want to be. Putin and Kim were bonding on China's doorstep. While North Korean artillery would be a shot in the arm for Putin's war effort, swapping missile technology for it would not exactly be a great deal. And Putin might realize it's not worth annoying China, which buys Russian oil and gas, and remains a crucial ally in a world that has isolated him. Pyongyang needs China even more. It's the only other country Kim Jong Un visits. Anywhere between a quarter to a half of North Korea's oil comes from Russia, but at least 80% of its business is with China. Megachurch pastor Robert Morris resigns over moral failure Megachurch pastor Robert Morris, the 62-year-old founder of Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, resigned after Cindy Clemishire accused him of sexually abusing her over multiple years in the 1980s beginning when she was 12, reports The Christian Post. Morris had admitted that he had engaged in "inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady" while he was a pastor at another church in his early 20s. But he did not name his accuser or disclose her age at the time the abuse began. 1 Timothy 3:2 and 7 says, “Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach. … He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap.” In the announcement of Morris' resignation, Gateway Church elders said they have retained the law firm of Haynes & Boone, LLP, to "conduct an independent, thorough, and professional review of the report of past abuse to ensure we have a complete understanding of the events from 1982-1987." In their statement, the elders wrote, “Regretfully, prior to Friday, June 14, the elders did not have all the facts of the inappropriate relationship between Morris and the victim, including her age at the time and the length of the abuse. The elders' prior understanding was that Morris's extramarital relationship, which he had discussed many times throughout his ministry, was with ‘a young lady' and not abuse of a 12-year-old child.” However, Cindy Clemishire claims that in 2007 “at least one elder had specific notice that I was sexually abused beginning when I was 12 years old.” One ripple effect is that the Texas-based Daystar Television Network, one of the largest Christian television networks in the world, has removed all programming featuring Robert Morris. German shot put athlete gives glory to God German athlete Yemisi Ogunleye won the bronze medal in the shot put competition at the European Athletics Championships in Rome with a throw of 61 feet, reports Evangelical Focus. Welcome to our Friday episode, where we take a deep dive into recent stats from major matches in the shooting competition world. We compare participation numbers from 2023 and early 2024 across several categories, including CO, LO, Open, PCC, Limited Production, Single Stack, Revolver, and Limited 10. Intriguingly, we found a significant drop in CO participation by about 12%. However, Limited Optics has soared from just over 7% to nearly 22%—a whopping 287% increase. These two combined now make up more than half of all major match competitors. We also note a rise in PCC, albeit a modest one, from 11.3% to 14.6%. Meanwhile, participation in more traditional divisions like Open and Limited show a drop of 31% and 39% respectively. We observe small changes in Participation in Production and Limited Optics divisions whilst Regretfully, Single Stack saw a significant drop from 272 to 163, a 40% decrease and the Revolver division dipped by 26%. A significant find was that participation in Limited 10 dropped by 29%, making us pose a strong suggestion of its dissolution. As a disclaimer, remember that our analysis is based on only five major matches, so take these preliminary figures with a grain of salt. While the trends here give us an interesting glimpse at the shifting landscape, we'll continue to monitor participation figures throughout the year. Stay tuned for more episodes every three days for the following weeks, where we'll continue sharing insights from the shooting competition world. Have a great weekend and we look forward to catching up next week.
As a devout Christian, I made a vow to wait to get married before having an affair. Regretfully, I had an affair and I'm currently unable to forgive myself. Kindly help me. Listen to this and other confessions and share your opinions.
Regretfully, Ray has been quite sick these past few months. So, we've decided to replay some of our previous episodes until he gets back to the mic. This one is the beginning of series we did on conflict early in the podcast. Enjoy. Again.
Regretfully Yours (Part 2) The Four Categories of Regret from part 1 are: 1. Foundational Regrets - “If only I had more…” 2. Boldness Regrets - “If only took a risk …” 3. Moral Regret - “If I had that decision back I would have…” 4. Connection Regrets - “If I would have stayed connected to…” How to Respond to Regret: 1. Be Aware of it (this is what the first podcast was dedicated to) Identify them in detail Explore why we have them. The keys to awareness 2. Express it - Do not deny regrets but express them with a select few trusted confidants. Disclosing our regrets. Be vulnerable for it: Releases some of the burden Begins making sense of the process when we begin to articulate Creates bonds to others who can relate and empathize. Eliminate isolation for regret grows in isolation. 3. Embrace it - Make it matter because it does. To flippantly let on it doesn't mean anything is a sure way to have it hang around. We can't transcend something we don't embrace. Feel the pain but don't let it turn to shame, acknowledge the hurt but don't let it turn into guilt. When we embrace it we can learn to embrace ourselves with self compassion, self- kindness and self-acceptance knowing that we are good men capable of doing things we may regret. 4. Transform it - renew it, reshape it, remold it, redo it, reconstruct it, rebuild it, recast it, reorder it, reframe it, reorganize it, restyle it. Just ‘re' it. Turn a bad decision into good data. Turn a bad decision of something we did into a healthy expression of who we really are. The Benefits of Regret: 1. Sharpens our decision making skills for the future. “I won't do that again” 2. Secures our performance on a range of tasks. The more we do the more we get to do but if we let our regrets of the past hold us back we won't try things which by the way is one of the four categories of regrets. Don't measure our worth based on our performance but based on our character. As we often say in AMG. “You are a good man” 3. Strengthens our sense of meaning and connectedness. We realize that we all are strugglers. I am a fellow struggle with every other human struggler on the planet. We are all just trying to find our way and sometimes that way is found through regret. 4. Shows us what we really want in that if we did the opposite of what we regret we would have a sense of fulfillment. The camera negative We encourage you to talk about your regrets openly and find the freedom of vulnerability and authenticity.
Regret is one of our most powerful feelings and regrettably one of the most misunderstood. Regret covers a myriad of circumstances from wishing we would have eaten oatmeal instead of the cinnamon danish this morning for breakfast to feeling remorse for not telling a loved one how much we loved them before they died. The Four Categories of Regret: 1. Foundational Regrets - did not make choices that give enough stability and security Not saving enough money or not paying attention to health. “If only I had more…” 2. Boldness Regrets - did not take a chance on doing something I should have Starting a business, not asking someone out, not speaking up “If only took a risk …” People who took risks and failed still were glad they took the risk because it taught them something 3. Moral Regret - did something they should not have or did not do something they should have Affairs, bullying, stealing, cheating “If I had that decision back I would have…” 4. Connection Regrets - did not stay in touch and as a result we drifted apart. Disassociated with family and/or friends “If I would have stayed connected to…” It is not too late to reach out and awkwardness is most often rewarding to those who take the initiative.

In Florida, people live in dormitories for the elderly, watching golf on TV, which turns your mind to lime gelatin. In their working lives, they practiced law, healed the sick, managed money, and now they doze in a perpetual twilight and seem to prefer this life to their former working life, which calls into question the very meaning of our free-enterprise culture. 7.2 - Regretfully Yours by Life Out Loud Podcast
Riley shares valuable lessons learned as a first-time mama not knowing what to advocate for or how to advocate for herself during labor. Something as small as bringing your own gown to the hospital can make all the difference in finding your power. Riley mentions some of the shocking things her first provider did which drove her to immediately switch as soon as she became pregnant again. Meagan and Riley discuss how key a VBAC-supportive provider is especially during short birthing intervals. Opinions on the ideal length between pregnancies vary dramatically among providers!Additional LinksThe VBAC Link Blog: Length Between PregnanciesHow to VBAC: The Ultimate Prep Course for ParentsThe VBAC Link Facebook CommunityFull Transcript under Episode DetailsMeagan: Hello, hello. It is Wednesday and we have another VBAC story for you today. Our VBAC storyteller is Riley so welcome, Riley, to the show. Riley: Thank you. Meagan: Yes. She is from Alabama so if there are any Alabama listeners out there, listen up because she definitely has a great story. I feel like there is something special about her, or I should say unique, about her story and that is the time between birth and pregnancy. That is something that's really big in the VBAC world. We get a lot of questions about it. Unfortunately, we have a lot of providers naysaying VBAC when there is a close duration. I'm sure, Riley, you are going to tell us all about what types of stuff people said to you. We are going to talk about that at the end as well because we do have a lot of people who have a close duration between birth and pregnancy. Yeah, so we are going to be talking about that. Review of the WeekMeagan: But of course, we have a Review of the Week so I want to make sure to read that review. This review is on Apple Podcasts and it's from RokFray. It says, “Getting VBAC Ready. This podcast has been inspiring and motivational to me as I prepare for a VBAC with my fourth baby.” Oh, that's awesome. “Listening to each of these stories and realizing that through listening, I am learning how to advocate for myself and my family. It's been a true blessing. Thank you.”Well thank you, RokFray, and I am with you. I feel like one of the best things about this podcast is truly learning how to advocate for yourself. That comes with getting educated. We have to educate ourselves in order to advocate for ourselves because if we don't know what we're advocating for and we don't know the stats, facts, risks, and all of that stuff, it's hard to advocate. You're like, “I don't know any better. I don't know any better.” So if you guys are also wanting to learn more about VBAC and all of the stats and facts, we also have a VBAC course. If you guys didn't know, we have a parent and a birth worker course. You can find them at thevbaclink.com/courses. Riley's StoriesMeagan: Okay, Riley. Thank you so much for being here. Riley: Yes, I'm so excited. Meagan: I'm excited too. I would love to turn the time over to you. I know both of your stories are vastly different. Everybody's stories are usually different but I would love to know and have you share your stories. Riley: So my name is Riley. Like you said, I do live in Alabama. My husband and I will have been married for three years this coming May. We are practicing Catholics and fully open to life hence, the two kids are close together. Meagan: I love it. Riley: We have been blessed with two kids these past two years of marriage. So one kid one year and another kid the next. I am a stay-at-home mom. My son is 18 months old and my daughter is 4 months old right now. It's a very busy time of my life. Meagan: Very busy, yes. Riley: 5 months after we were married, I found out I was pregnant. I was finishing up college and hadn't quite graduated yet. I had no knowledge of pregnancy, birth, or hospital interventions. That wasn't a term in my vocabulary at all. I just didn't really know much about it. I was very thankful to have a sweet cousin during my first pregnancy who basically walked me through it. She helped me know kind of what to expect but I still didn't know how much of an advocate I was going to have to be for myself. I learned so much going through that first pregnancy. Some knowledge I gained through that experience and then some knowledge was just research topics that would pop up and I would look at.The main thing that I learned from my first pregnancy was that I was just way too compliant. For example, I learned that you can say no to cervical checks. That was a very small thing it seems like to some people, but that is something that some first-time mamas just really don't know anything about. I've learned that, and that you can choose whether or not you get all of the recommended vaccines during pregnancy. You can also choose small things like whether or not you want to labor in the hospital gown or if you want to wear your own clothes. You can say that you're going to move during labor instead of laying in bed the entire time which happened to me. We'll get to it. All of this might sound like common knowledge but it isn't for everyone, especially for those first-time mamas like I said who don't have a lot of outside resources other than the hospital staff which is not always the best resource. Meagan: I agree. That is something that I would love to carry on a comment from that. This podcast is very VBAC-specific. People are wanting to have a vaginal birth after a Cesarean and are learning the good things, but I feel like this podcast really would benefit everybody, especially first-time moms learning about, like you said, interventions. That wasn't even in your vocabulary. You were like, “What?” Riley: Yeah.Meagan: So walking through this podcast and learning what interventions can maybe lead to a Cesarean or how certain situations could lead to a Cesarean or what you can and can't do. Like you said, you are your own advocate and you can say no to anything. Riley, you're not the only one that was very go-with-the-flow. Guess what? I was too. So many of these listeners were very compliant. “You say that. You know better than I do. You went to medical school and midwifery school.” Again like you said, it's not always the best resource to have just that information. There might be a lot of information outside of exactly what they're giving you. So I love that you said that. Riley: Yes. My friends who are first-time mamas, I'm just trying to fill them with all of the knowledge because it's almost like with your first birth, you want to prevent that Cesarean. That's almost how the interventions have become and how bad it's gotten. I'm just always in my mind, “Please let me help you be able to have your first baby vaginally and not have a Cesarean.” Meagan: Yeah, yeah. Let's get these rates down and it starts with not having a Cesarean the first time assuming you don't want one. We know some people do and they have reasons why and that's totally fine. But yeah, getting this rate down would be great. Riley: So to continue, my first pregnancy was very normal, no complications. My son's due date was estimated for the end of June which is another big thing that doctors put. They put a lot of pressure on that due date. So when you're that first-time mama, you're waiting for that day. When that day comes, you feel like something's wrong. It's a lot of pressure. My husband and I had in our minds that baby boy would be in our arms mid to late June. It was a lot of pressure on that due date. My mom had me on my due date so these people I was surrounded with, it was like, “Okay, we're waiting on the due date.” Meagan: Yes. We have a VBAC Link Podcast follower that said, “As much as I was okay with going over my due date, it was the daily pressure that got to me.” Having that pressure at the end of your pregnancy doesn't help us go into labor.Riley: Yes. So much pressure. No, it doesn't. So when the due date came and nothing happened, we were a bit surprised because most providers like I said, put lots of pressure on having the babies on that date or very, very close to that date. Once the due date had passed, I began to get slight pressure for an induction, no reason other than I had passed my due date. We knew we wanted to wait for my body to go into labor naturally if possible. That was our goal. So at 41 weeks, my water broke. I was having no contractions. My water broke, no pain or anything with that. Regretfully, my husband and I packed it up and headed to the hospital. That was just our gut feeling. We called the nurses and they told us to head there. If I were to do it again, that pregnancy and that time frame, I would definitely wait at home longer and just labor at home and wait on those contractions to come and not go. Even if your water breaks, you're going to be fine. Meagan: You're going to be fine. And if your water breaks, take a quick note. Let's run through it. “How am I feeling? Do I feel like I have a fever? Do I feel like something is wrong? Is there a lot of meconium on the ground?” You can run through this checklist and say, “Okay. Everything's okay. I feel great. Baby is moving. Everything is great.” Do a mental checklist. Riley: Yeah, so we packed it up and headed to the hospital. We only had a 20-minute drive so we got there pretty quickly. Once we entered, it was just a cascade of interventions. As soon as I walked in, my mindset was going to be, “Active during labor. Walk around the hospital room and be able to get into positions that I want.” As soon as I walked in the door, they asked me to take my clothes off, get into a hospital gown, and get into the hospital bed. I asked if I could– because this might be TMI but I had put a diaper on because it was most comfortable for me because my water had broke and after your water breaks if you don't know, you need a little something down there to walk around. Meagan: You just keep leaking. Yes, you do. Riley: That was my plan. So they wanted me to strip down and just get in bed. I asked if I could do what I wanted and they basically gave me a stern no because of the infection. Meagan: Let's just stop right there. How does infection come into removing your clothes or not removing your clothes or having a diaper or not?Riley: Or get an infection walking around.Meagan: I'm sorry, but vaginas are not vacuums. They don't just suck up infections. Things have to be inserted into them. Riley: Yes, yes.Meagan: So you wearing a diaper or a pad is not– yeah. Riley: Not very much logic when into that. Meagan: I digress. Riley: That was our first, I would call it, intervention. It's very small, putting a hospital gown on, but it was the first one of many. Meagan: But for you, it was an intervention in the way of where you were like, “Wait, that's not what I want to do,” and then you didn't feel at the time because we didn't know. You weren't given an option. It's just like, no. Riley: That's the number one thing that starts making my comfort level go down. Meagan: Yeah, exactly. Riley: In labor, you need to be as comfortable as possible. Meagan: You're becoming very vulnerable at that moment. Riley: I later realized that the risk of infection, like we said, is very low, and after your water breaks, walking around is not going to cause an infection. It was a very slippery slope after that. I was put on a time clock due to my water breaking, so the doctor wanted the baby out in 24 hours. I really had no knowledge about that. I was just like, “Okay,” staring at this clock on the wall. Man, these 24 hours happen fast. Meagan: It really does. Riley: The hours go by and it's not happening like the doctor wants it to. I'm getting nervous. I didn't really want to use Pitocin, but that was something that he wanted to do so we compromised. I was like, “As long as you do it at a very, very, very low dose and do it very slowly.” So he started the PItocin. At this point, I'm still bedridden. They would not even let me get up to go to the bathroom. They gave me a bedpan. Meagan: So crazy. Riley: The bathroom was literally right there. I asked them if I could go to the bathroom and they were like, “Oh no. We'll bring you a bedpan.” I'm like, “That's not what I want.” Meagan: I want to get up and move. Riley: So the contractions were not fun stuck in the bed on Pitocin. Pitocin contractions are not fun period, but if you get to walk around with them, I feel like you can cope with them. But being stuck on your back in the bed, you can't really cope anyway in that position. So then I ended up asking for an epidural because I was not coping well in bed with those Pitocin contractions. Meagan: You're stuck in one spot. Riley: Mhmm. Fast forward to time to push and the doctor told the nurses to pull the epidural. No questions asked. It was almost like I wasn't in the room and he was just talking and giving the nurses orders.Meagan: Wow. Riley: He came in a few times and asked if I was feeling pressure. I always told him, “No, not really. No.” I knew when my contractions were coming, but no. I'm not feeling any pressure. He didn't like that answer and he told the nurses to pull the epidural. It was a weird feeling in the room. He walked out and the nurses turned the epidural monitor around. They told me, “We'll leave it in as long as we can.” They were against the doctor. They said, “We're just going to watch for him down the hallway and when he comes back, we'll pull it. We'll let you have it for as long as possible.” They said, “He does this to everybody.” Meagan: What?!Riley: I was like, “Okay, thank you.” Anyway, by the time he got back, they pulled it without my consent. I was supposed to last for a couple of hours. It probably lasted 30 minutes and I could feel everything. That's a huge change going from that medication to nothing. Meagan: Yes, yes. Riley: I pushed for over an hour until I heard the words no mother wants to hear and that was, “Stop pushing.” He was staring at the monitor. It felt like an eternity but he eventually told me what was going on. He said that the baby's heart rate was spiking every time I would push so even though my body was wanting to push, he was telling me, “No, no. Don't push.” He eventually announced that we were going to do an emergency Cesarean. My mom and husband were there. My husband started suiting up to go to the OR for the Cesarean. The anesthesiologist had to come back to push the epidural back because I didn't have it anymore so she was trying to do that and she got tears in her eyes. She was like, “I don't think it's working.” I was like, “Yeah, I can feel the washcloths and everything you're putting on my legs. I can feel everything.” She was like, “You're going to have to be intubated. Your husband or mom, nobody can go back there with you. You have to go back there by yourself.” I was like, “Okay. Let's just get this show on the road if this is what we're doing. I'm in so much pain. I'm tired of talking about it.” They rolled me back there by myself. I waited for a minute and then they put me under. I basically woke up in a closet-like room without baby, without my husband, and just by myself. I was crying and I was like, “Where's my baby?” The doctor was standing over me and he tells me how big my baby is or something. I had a decently big baby, like 9, 12. It was just very traumatic, all of the interventions, waking up without my baby, and having this emergency surgery, not getting to be awake when my baby was born, missing all of the first times. They went ahead and did all of the stuff without me. I didn't meet him until he was already two hours old because that was how long it took me to wake up and everything. My husband was there with the baby. Meagan: Can I ask how long from the time when he was like, “Your baby's heart rate is dropping, we're going to have to do a Cesarean,” to you going and having a Cesarean?Riley: Like how long from when he announced I was having it?Meagan: You mentioned it was an emergency but I was just curious because it seemed like a lot of stuff had happened leading up. Riley: Yeah, it was pretty quick. It wasn't like everybody was rushing around and getting me back really fast. But it was like, “Okay, emergency Cesarean,” then they tried the epidural. That's what took a little bit of time and then maybe I would say maybe an hour. Maybe I'm wrong. Meagan: Yeah, no. I'm always so curious when providers say “an emergency Cesarean” and then this emergency takes so much time. An emergency is quick. You're saying all of these things and I'm like, “Oh.” Riley: I guess if it really would have been an emergency, they wouldn't have tried the epidural since I didn't have it. Meagan: No, yeah. Riley: They would have just taken me straight back there and put me under. Meagan: But we hear emergency in our reports and they're telling us it's an emergency and we get scared. “Emergency” is a very big word. I'm sorry, keep going. I'm loving this. Riley: That is basically the end of my first story. So that was just very traumatic, but then we were still open to life so we were not going to close that off. I was also kicked out of my six-week postpartum appointment. I never really got to that postpartum when they even say, “Wait a certain amount of time,” so I never encountered that because it was just an odd situation. I just didn't go to it so we just did our thing. We had our baby and then we were just like, “We're just going to go with it and see what happens.” We actually got pregnant five months after having my son. Something about the five-month timeframe for us, but I knew initially that I wanted to have a vaginal birth. I had so many things running through my head when I was staring at that pregnancy test. The first thing I knew that I wanted to do was to change providers. I knew that if I was going to plan for a VBAC, then I needed not just someone who was tolerant but someone who was going to be completely on board with my VBAC. I didn't want any rolling eyes. I wanted to be on the same page. I asked friends and family and finally found one. The instant we met, I knew that she was a perfect fit for us. I had a pretty normal pregnancy once again except for some tachycardia that lingered and would not go away. In addition to changing providers, I also knew that I wanted to write a very detailed birth plan which I did not do with my first pregnancy of all of my wishes and everything that I wanted. I talked with my provider at the end of my pregnancy and she had no reservations about anything. At around 30-ish weeks, she mentioned me getting a doula. I didn't really know everything a doula entailed, so I did some research and talked it over with my husband. At 37 weeks, we decided to hire a doula. Meagan: I love it. I love it. It's never too late until the baby is born to hire a birth doula. It's never too late until you've had a baby. Riley: It was definitely towards the end but we got her in. We were eagerly awaiting those contractions. I had never felt that slow progression of early labor because, with my first like I said, just my water broke with no contractions. Finally, at 40+3– she came a little bit earlier– I had the smallest contractions at 4:00 AM. They kept coming at random times. The new provider we chose is a much longer drive. She is about 45 minutes away. We did keep that in mind. Around lunch, the contractions were a little stronger and much more regular. After nine hours of laboring at home, we headed to the hospital. I had very regular contractions on the 45-minute drive there. We arrived and finally got admitted to a room after going through triage. I was dilated to about a 5 and I was at -1 station, 90% effaced. Meagan: Great, yeah. Really great progress. Riley: I labored in all of the positions that felt most comfortable to me, never being forced to be in the bed. I was even able to get in the shower at one point. After 15 hours of laboring including that early stage at home, I was just exhausted and began to have back labor. I was just contemplating an epidural because I was so tired of laboring. After getting the epidural, I was able to rest a bit until it was time to push. I do think the epidural probably prolonged my labor a bit. I'm just going to throw that out there. It's kind of a win-lose situation. You get some rest and feel a little bit better come time for pushing, but then you look back on it and think, “Did the epidural really prolong this an extra 2-3 hours?” I was given a light epidural which was such a blessing. If you don't know what that is, you can ask for a light epidural and I would suggest that to anybody wanting to get one because it gives you the ability to feel all of the contractions and to feel the pressure as well. That is such a big deal. I was actually able, with my epidural, to get in different positions for the baby and to also push on my own and not have to be coached with the countdown and all of that. I was able to just feel my body and know what was happening. My provider and doula teamed together and gave me all sorts of positions to try and help labor the baby down. Three hours of pushing and a busted blood vessel in my eye later, the baby was finally born. She was healthy and I had no complications afterward. I was like, “It actually happened. I did it.” Meagan: You did. Riley: I did. I achieved the VBAC that I desired for these whole nine months. This story wouldn't be complete if I didn't mention all of the rosaries and prayers said in preparation for this birth. We knew our baby's name pretty early on. We chose to name her after two saints– Saint Sylvia and Saint Anne. Both of these saints really helped us through the entire pregnancy. The Blessed Virgin Mary and God especially were there every step of the way hearing all of our prayers and knowing that they would be answered in God's own time. Even when I was getting anxious around the estimated due date, He knew that three days later, I would have my successful, redemptive, holy VBAC. Thanks be to God. Meagan: Oh my gosh. I love it. I love it. You talked about blood vessels bursting in your eye. Sometimes that happens. Riley: It does happen. Meagan: It does happen. We try to avoid it but sometimes it happens. Riley: Yes. Meagan: Oh, well congratulations. Riley: Thank you. Meagan: I love it. I would love to talk about the 5-month mark and everything. You got pregnant kind of soon. What would people say to you? What would providers say to you about really more in-depth of what they would say to you about this? Did they place doubt? Did they encourage? It seems like overall, they were pretty dang supportive. Riley: Yeah, so we changed providers so the only provider I encountered was our new provider with the spacing. The people we encountered, there was a lot of negativity. Family members and people were very nervous about something happening and me not thinking about my body and taking care of myself. Things like that. Our provider was totally on board. Meagan: Okay. That's awesome. Riley: I was very nervous. That first appointment, I really was planning on going in and her making the decision and her saying, “You're either going to have to have a Cesarean or you can try for a VBAC.” I figured she would tell me one or the other. I walked in and she totally just puts the ball in your court. She says, “It's up to you. I'm going to give you the stats. I'm going to give you both sides.” It's just literal stats. It's something you can look up online. She was super supportive. I was nervous to say, “My son was born last July. I just had a baby.” But she was like, “That's not a big deal.” She said, “The time difference in your babies is not the issue.” She said, “It's if you have complications in this pregnancy that might pose an issue to have a VBAC.” She was like, “The time difference, yeah maybe waiting a little bit longer could help you,” but she said, “14 months is not a huge deal at all.” Whereas if I would have gone to another provider, I don't think that would have been what I would have heard. Meagan: Yes. That is what we are finding. I always ask people what their providers say just because it's so different and it's dramatically different. Riley: Yes. Meagan: That's what's kind of interesting to me about everything. There are studies. There's research and all of these things, but some providers will say, “Oh, you can't get pregnant whenever. It needs to be a 24-month gap.” For some, it's 18 months. For some, it's 12 months. For some, it's 15 months. It varies so, so dramatically. There are studies that show that really, really close intervals like 6 months or something increases the chances of uterine rupture because we don't have a Cesarean scar that is completely healed. It takes your body time to heal, but some tips to give to you right after pregnancy is eating well with high protein and really good nutrients. Feed your body all that it needs so it can do its job and recover quicker. But it's just so interesting to always hear. We have a mom that reached out probably a couple of weeks ago and she said, “I'm 20 months out and my provider said no.” They pretty much told her, “No, you're going to have a uterine rupture.” She's like, “Is this true?” It's like, “No, it's not.” We have a blog about getting pregnant after a Cesarean and how long should you wait? So be sure to check that out. It'll be in today's show notes or just at thevbaclink.com/blog but it isn't a guarantee. It isn't something. Here your provider was not really worried about it. Do you feel comfortable sharing with the audience your provider's name? Riley: Sure. She is actually not an OB. Meagan: Is she family? Riley: She's family, yeah. She delivers babies all of the time. She actually has lots of experience with VBAC mamas so a lot of people go to her. Marcia Daniel at UAB in Huntsville. Meagan: Awesome, awesome. So again, if you are listening now and you want to explore your options, there's someone to check out. We always love suggesting providers. We have a list in our private VBAC Link Community on Facebook. We have a list under the Files section of providers all over the world of what people have said. We will make sure to get her added to that list. If you're listening and you're looking for a supportive provider that maybe is more accepting of birth and you want to check her out, check her out. Okay, well thank you so much. Riley: Yeah, you're welcome. Thank you for having me on. ClosingWould you like to be a guest on the podcast? Tell us about your experience at thevbaclink.com/share. Death and loss is inevitable. As soon as our kids are old enough to love, to have an attachment to something or someone, they will grieve and mourn for those losses. When is the best time to talk about grief and loss to our kids? Well, the best time to prepare for grief is NOT when the tsunami of heartache is hitting hard. Today, we're gonna dive into what our kids need to know about grief and loss. This is something our guest, Shirley Thiessen, a grief coach and educator, wishes herself to know as a young mom. This episode will help to protect your kids from the harshness of loss and pain. Let us also learn how each of us can be a “Hope Hero” in this world full of grief.“Grief is really hard work, it is exhausting. If we don't absorb the loss, if we don't reconcile it, it's gonna bubble up years later in very unhealthy ways. So it's a beautiful thing to be able to teach our children that we're going to face our pain, we're going to look for ways to learn from it, and to get a meaning or purpose from that pain…I think pain can teach us how to look out for others who are hurting, and come alongside them.” - Shirley ThiessenAbout our Guest:Shirley Thiessen is co-founder of a grief ministry, CornerBend Ministries in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Through writing and speaking, Shirley serves others as a grief coach and educator. Most people don't know what is helpful to say or do to support their grieving friends. Regretfully, the younger Shirley was one of those people.Inspired by caring friends who support Shirley as she grieves the loss of her son, she is paying it forward by sharing the transformational power of empathy expressed in life-giving ways.Website: https://shirleythiessen.com/Connect with Blissful Parenting:Free Workshop ► https://www.BlissfulParentingWorkshop.com Website ► http://www.TheBlissfulParent.com/ Blog ► http://www.TheBlissfulParent.com/blog Podcast ► http://www.TheBlissfulParent.com/podcast/ Contact ►http://www.BlissfulParenting.com/contact Follow Us On Social Media:Youtube ► https://www.youtube.com/theblissfulparent Facebook ► https://www.facebook.com/theblissfulparent Instagram ► https://www.instagram.com/theblissfulparent/ Twitter ►https://twitter.com/blissfulparent Thanks for listening! Thanks so much for listening to our podcast! Brahmā said, “Guṇanidhi, the son of the Dīkṣita Yajñadatta, came to know of this. Regretfully he cursed himself and set off from that place. After wandering aimlessly for a long time, he, the wicked fellow, felt the abandonment keenly; losing all hope, he halted at a place. He thought to himself: ‘Where am I to go? What shall I do? I have not studied much, nor am I rich enough. Only a wealthy man can be happy in a foreign land, although he has to face the fear of thieves there. Of course, this fear is present everywhere. I am born in the family of priests officiating in sacrifices. Why am I reduced to this wretched plight? Fate is powerful indeed, controlling all our future actions. I cannot even beg as I have no acquaintance, no money. Where shall I seek refuge? Everyday, even before sunrise, my mother used to feed me with sweet pudding. From whom shall I beg today? My mother too is away from me.' --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/shivadyuti/message
This week your intrepid hosts recap some listener mail from friend of the pod, Dylan McConnell, who boldly contends that some of our critiques on IAMs could be appropriately directed closer to home at the ISP. Also Dylan earns mega bonus points by renaming the ISP as our very own energy system HEGELIAN DIALECTIC. If we called it that we might get even less focus on the process because shiny hegelian dialectic people. Would you believe a Texas professor said that we need to find a cure for homosexuality? Well one computer science loving professor Timothy Farange said we should find the cure and test for "gayness" in the womb. Russian lawmakers are baffled as to how Ukraine is holding out against their superior numbers and slightly more advanced technology. Well according to a few in the high courts of Russia, it's because Ukraine has super soldiers which have been experimented on by U.S. scientists. An Alaskan woman finally got to achieve her childhood dream of strangling two men to death. Brianna Star Wassillie didn't grow up wanting to be an actress or a princess or even the first female president, instead she dreamed of being a serial killer. When the world spat in her face and said you don't have what it takes, she laughed back at the world and stated "Watch me." Regretfully she only killed two so isn't considered a serial killer yet, but she's still young.
AD Robles, like Jon Harris at Conversations That Matter, is someone I've appreciated work by from a distance. That said, he doesn't know me and I don't know him. But I do know he published a podcast episode today which was intended to speak to the current situation surrounding JD Hall of Sidney, Montana. In his episode - which is not very long, but you can watch it here - AD explains that addiction to Xanax and other substances is no joke. He personally can empathize with what Jordan is going through. Nevertheless, despite AD's support, the claim is made that neither he nor anyone else could have known JD was addicted to Xanax, or for how long. To argue the point, we need to go back to God's Word - particularly the qualifications for overseers and deacons which the Apostle Paul writes in the New Testament to both Timothy and Titus. Thereby we'll see that the question of who knew when whether Jordan's behavior and way of relating was influenced by a Xanax addiction, Vitamin D deficiency, or Asperger's Syndrome is really beside the point. There is nothing in the Biblical text about any of these. But what does Paul write instead which should have been instructive here? "Therefore an overseer must be..." above reproach the husband of one wife sober-minded self-controlled respectable hospitable able to teach not a drunkard not violent but gentle not quarrelsome not a lover of money able to manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? not a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil If you were looking in that list for anything specifically about Xanax, Vitamin D, or Asperger's, you didn't miss it. That's because the items that are listed not only ought to have, but did in fact, cause elders and deacons at FBC Sidney for years, and myself besides, to raise alarm bells about the qualification or lack thereof of JD Hall for the pastorate. The fact that said warnings were either missed, ignored entirely, or else not searched out at all is a sad indictment, I think, on the current talking points coming from several national figures online who shared platforms and lent credibility that prevented local accountability by their proximity combined with ambivalence. Regretfully, that seems to include AD Robles as well now. More could have been known if there had been an appetite to know and to act before know. Unfortunately, what seems to be happening with JD Hall's associates one by one is that they are recusing themselves conveniently on the grounds that they either knew nothing or else talked with him privately long ago, then left well enough alone. Again, that will not do, and that is not the model we're called to in God's Word. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/garrett-ashley-mullet/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/garrett-ashley-mullet/support

As we approach the back half of the year, it's so vital to schedule our income generating activities along with all other facets of our business (particularly the growth aspects) so that we reach our goals without stress and sacrifice by the end of the year. Connect with me: https://callwithjaime.com/ https://www.instagram.com/jaimeslutzky/ https://m.me/jaimeslutzky/ Let's get to it! I like to work backwards and from goals rather than moving forward from a planning perspective. Oftentimes there are a lot of dates that just don't work in the back half of the year ~ such as holidays, vacations, birthdays and days you just don't want to work. Those are immediately blocked off the calendar, go do it now. Then it's time to map out our initiatives (like a course!) and our established income sources (hello lessons). Get specific on your calendar – know your course launch date and mark it. Know the hours that you're going to work with students - mark those days and times on your calendar, even if you don't yet know which student is going to fit into which slot. Once you know your new initiatives, backtrack into those launch dates. Courses will take anywhere from 3 days to 16 - 18 weeks…. This is depending on your level of experience with creating a course and your topic and everything else that goes into it. Think about where you are right now and figure out how long you believe it's going to take you to create that course and then put time on your schedule every week to work on that course. And then insert some buffer time in! We always think we're going to get things done faster or they're going to be easier or that distractions aren't going to happen. So if you're thinking okay for 12 weeks, I'm going to spend four hours a week on this course, maybe you should factor in five hours a week. Or maybe it would be more in line with your style to increase your hours during certain specific weeks to make sure that you hit that goal. When we know when something has to be done, we can back into this. I know that you can do this because you have most likely taken your students to examinations or to recitals or to competitions or to auditions and you have learned how to back them into that goal. By creating a schedule that says I'm free and I'm busy, it allows us the capacity to see what else we can add and to see what systems and processes we need to fix. It also allows us to see kind of where our income generation is. When we do this, we're able to see what else we can add. If you add in all of your students' spots and you realize that you don't have that 4-5 hours every single week to work on your course in order to hit that timeline then what? Are you moving the timeline? Are you adding more hours of work time? How are you going to make that course a reality? It's a serious question. There is so much to do when you are running an online studio and truthfully, there are so many opportunities! Regretfully, I see amazing music teachers, bouncing from this to that to something else. It is not feasible to try and pack your schedule with income generating activities alone. We also want to include on our schedule initiatives to streamlining our systems and processes. And admin time and marketing time and collaboration time and creative time and oh, you know that first thing that we started with time off! (We want to make sure that that doesn't get eroded.) Start with the “regular schedule” of September - December, then figure out how you're going to tackle summer. Think about when you want income generating activities, marketing activities, systems and processes during the summer… how do you want to get it all in so that you have your goals clearly outlined and available to attain? It is way too easy to sit down at the computer or pick up the phone and just kind of keep on working, creating boundaries, finding boundaries, enforcing boundaries. That's what your schedule also allows you to do. To recap… your schedule is going to be filled in this order: Non-negotiables Existing obligations (student/income generating activities) Business operations & marketing White space New initiatives The other thing about the back half of the year is because summertime is here, It allows us to make sure that we are on track to hit our income goals. If you determine from your existing obligations that you're $1000 short for each of September through December in order to reach your income goal, the new initiatives and unscheduled time will be spent to build a new revenue stream to bridge (and exceed!) that gap. You have so much flexibility and so much opportunity to experiment in the summer. When the days are longer, people might sign up for something that's earlier in the day, later in the day or at a different time of day than they normally would be able to. Getting creative is the key to success! I want to make sure that you're as successful as you desire – all this by saying yes to scheduling! It allows for everything NEW to take shape. I would love nothing more than to help you bring that product to market. I work with my clients on courses, membership sites, workshops, streamlining their tech, envisioning what's next and so much more… so book a call with me https://callwithjaime.com and we will determine the right way to create the online successes you crave!

Before we talk about Jesus Christ and his actual teachings in detail, you will need an introduction to Allah. Allah is not a foreign God and does not bear a foreign name. Allah, instead, is the semantic term for God. Regardless, some people harbor the mistaken belief that Muslims worship a different God than Christians and Jews and that Allah is the God of the Arabs or the Muslims. This is far from the truth. The word Allah is the unique name of God. It is the Arabic name connoting Almighty God. Arabic-speaking Jews and Christians use this same word to refer to God. If one were to peruse an Arabic translation of the Bible, one would see the word Allah used in place of the term God. However, Muslims, Christians, and Jews all have different concepts of God. Muslims and Jews reject the Christian belief in the Trinity and the Divine incarnation. Yet, this does not mean that these three religions worship a different God: There is only One true God. The name of God in Hebrew is Eloah (pronounced eeLo), and the name of God in Aramaic is Elahh (pronounced as El-aw), and Assyrian Aramaic is Alaha (pronounced the way it is read ʼAlâhâ), and in Arabic, it is Allah (pronounced as AaLaH / Allawh). All the names of God in these languages are pronounced about the same as there is only One True God. If one were to pursue an Arabic bible, it reads: 'In the beginning Allah created the heavens and the earth' (Genesis 1:1) & 'For Allah so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life' (John 3:16) Muslims prefer to use the name 'Allah' instead of "God" because the word "God" can be made plural and rendered masculine or feminine. In contrast, the Arabic word "Allah" that God chose for Himself cannot be made plural and is genderless. For instance, if you add the letter "s" to the word God, it becomes gods—the plural of God. In the case of the Arabic word Allah, one cannot make the word plural by adding "s" or in any other way morphing the word's structure. Likewise, if one adds "ess" to the end of the word "God," it becomes "goddess," which connotes a female god. God is neither female nor male. He is genderless. The Arabic term Allah does not have a gender. It cannot be made feminine. Muslims prefer to use Allah instead of God because using the word God has different connotations for different people. God indicates an entity worthy of worship. Regretfully, people assign a godlike status to many other beings, divine or otherwise. However, while speaking to non-Muslims, one may use God instead of Allah to help the intended audience understand the word's context. Allah originates from the word Al-ilah, which enjoins the two terms "The" and "God," as in The God. The Arabic word illah, the closest synonym to God, is rich and has several meanings. Illah refers to an entity worthy of worship and service, an object of devotion and love, someone you turn to in desperate times, someone you adore and think about. Illah also is one you turn to for protection, help, or aid. One can find sanctuary and rest in their Illah, who is always present to comfort and guide His creation. The relationship with God is expressed in the Arabic word Al-Rabb, which is used frequently in the Holy Quran. Linguistically, it is defined as sticking close to something. It also means joining something with another. In the Holy Quran, the word Al-Rabb implies that the owner (God) has full authority over His property (his servants) and is the Master who ultimately sustains His creation by regulating affairs, providing provisions, and granti

We all know when we come to the end of one year, there are those who have asperations for change in the new year. That's a great time, but not if it's just talk. Everyone eventually comes to the point where they can clearly see that, "talk is cheap" and they have to put movement to their feet. Regretfully, there are those who attempt to make the change(s) but give up too soon. Not today, satan! This Keep it Simple episode will encourage you to set those emotional boundaries and how not to live there disconnected from people. We hope this final 2021 series helps you see whose worth keeping and when it's best to walk away. [Books referenced: Get Naked by Dr. Saudia Lewan Twine and Beyond Boundaries by Dr. John Townsend.]

每日英語跟讀 Ep.K243: When is the best time to ask for a raise? 如果你原先希望可以在今年年底前加薪,那你可能要再等一會兒了。 If you are hoping for a pay raise before the end of the year, you should brace yourselves for some bad news. 根據一家網路銀行最新調查,儘管台灣近年經濟狀況表現佳,大多數的台灣上班族收入卻沒有增加。 Most Taiwan workers haven't seen their income increase in recent years despite Taiwan's strong economic performance, according to a new survey by an online job bank. 更令人擔心的是,分析師預計公司會等到業務恢復到疫情前水準後才會給員工應有的加薪。 Even more worrisome, analysts expect companies to wait until after business returns to pre-pandemic levels before giving staff the financial push they deserve. 就業網站1111週二表示,百貨公司、超市和大賣場的零售商員工報告顯示他們的工資凍結時間最長,平均為四年三個月之久。 Retail workers in department stores, supermarkets and hypermarkets, for instance, reported the lengthiest salary freeze at four years and three months on average, employment website 1111 reported on Tuesday. 同時,服務業 (大部分為食物和飲料攤販)平均也等了三年八個月才會看到月收入的增加。 Workers in the service sector — mostly food and beverage vendors — also waited for an average of three years and eight months before seeing a hike in their monthly income. 台灣在5月中旬至8月中旬,因疫情不斷升溫而開始實施三級警戒,對當地零售業的打擊更是大。許多企業別無選擇只能解雇員工並削減營運成本以求生存。 The implementation of the Level 3 epidemic warning after a case surge from mid-May to mid-August hit the local and retail sectors even harder. Many business owners had no choice but to furlough employees and cut operating costs in a bid to survive. 另一方面,從事金融業的人「未加薪」的時期明顯較短,為兩年三個月;這表明儘管疫情的出現,金融業仍持續蓬勃發展。 Workers in the pan-finance sector, on the other hand, reported the shortest period without a raise at two years and three months, indicating that financial services continued to boom despite the pandemic. 然而1111發言人黃若薇表示,鑒於不樂觀的經濟前景,雇主不太可能在明年增加工資。原因很簡單,公司會希望先了解他們的業務是否能恢復到疫情前的水平。 The problem is that employers are unlikely to increase pays next year given the uncertain economic outlook. The reason is simple, companies want to know if their business will return to pre-pandemic levels first, according to 1111 spokesperson Vivi Huang (黃若薇). 台灣的鄰國日本、新加坡和香港皆因本土疫情案例增加經濟受到嚴重影響,相較起來,台灣經濟成長勝出鄰國3%。 Taiwan's economy grew last year 3% higher than that of its neighboring countries Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong, all of which fell sharply amid spikes in local infections. 既使在全球經濟蕭條的情況下,因為各地開始在家上班和上課,相關電子產品需求也隨之飆升,台灣的出口量也創下了輝煌紀錄。 Even in a weak global economy, Taiwan has seen record exports thanks to soaring global demand for the technology components and products needed to work and study at home. 在此背景嚇,勞動部上週表示,從2022年1月1日起,台灣基本月薪和時薪將增加5.21%,成連續六年調升基本薪資。 Against this backdrop, the Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) said last week that Taiwan's minimum monthly and hourly wage will increase by 5.21 percent from Jan. 1, 2022 — the sixth consecutive year it has been increased. 5.21%的增長將使基本薪資每月新台幣2.4萬提高到新台幣2.525萬元,而時薪也從新台幣160元提高到168元。這對於在台灣從事一些困難工作的數百萬人來說是好消息。 The 5.21 percent increase will raise the minimum monthly wage from NT$24,000 (US$857) at present to NT$25,250 and the minimum hourly wage from NT$160 to NT$168. This is great news for millions of people who survive by doing some of the most difficult jobs in Taiwan. 明年調薪後,教育程度較低的求職者收入將與目前大學畢業生月收入僅為28,000到32,000元相近。 Regretfully, the move is likely to lower the gap between workers with little or no qualification and young college graduates who earn merely NT$28,000 to NT$32,000 per month. Well, we have a special one for you this week. Larceny Barrel Proof bourbon is the first high proof wheated bourbon we have reviewed to date. Regretfully, we may have picked a terrible time with the Heaven Hill strike going on recently. We fully respect their decision to strike and wish the best for their workers. With that being said, this is full bodied bourbon that is smooth and enjoyable. Listen in for our full review and our "Whiskey Talk" that is likely the most like a real whiskey talk. No topic, just pure discussion that leads where it leads. As always, thank you for listening and "Keep it neat friends".
We have all had those days when everything seems to go wrong and moments when things go from bad to worse. Regretfully, and yet not surprisingly, Paul's gesture of goodwill in sponsoring the offerings of four Messianic Jews who were keeping the Nazarite vow wasn't enough to offset the hatred of his enemies who placed him under a “citizen's arrest” under false accusations that were instantly presumed as fact. What's worse is that the Romans arrest him, the victim, rather than the ones who were beating him. What do you do when everything goes wrong? In the eighties, everything was extravagant. Big hair and makeup to shoulder pads; it was all INXS (see what I did there.) Ninth grade was an uncomfortable in-between sort of a stage. I'd left the cradle of middle school and hopelessly needed to establish myself as a grown-up high school parachute pants-wearing mullet-promoting kind of guy. Somehow I had gotten elected class president that year. I'll never understand how that happened to this day. Halfway through my campaign speech, I forgot what to say. During the eternal pause, I contemplated exiting the spotlight and fleeing the country. I managed to conclude the address and figured I'd at least wait to drop out of high school at the end of the day. Once the results were in and I'd learned triumph was mine, everything would change. I must have won over my fellow students with my immense charm and rugged good looks. From this day on, I would be one of the popular guys in school. Hallway romance and bro respect would never be an obstacle again. One of the various responsibilities of the class president is organizing the ninth-grade dance. Making certain all of the balloons are inflated and securely knotted is no laughing matter. Amid my civic commitments, I still managed time to daydream. This event would surely catapult me into the MCHS popularity hall of fame, unlike any righteous dude before me. I imagined hundreds of Madonnas, Olivia Newton Johns, and a sprinkle of Cindy Lauper's all lined up to dance with the number one gnarly most bitchin' class president ever. Nada, There was no eye contact, no connection, no slow-motion moment between two star-crossed lovers, nothing. The first hour into the dance, I knew it would be a long night. I awkwardly stood around attempting to act all presidential but once a dork, always a dork. Finally, the evening was concluding, and in ten minutes, the lights would pop on, and I'd lead an expeditious clean-up so all of the volunteers could go home. Halfway through Endless Love, I would start picking up chairs so I could forget about this night. Then I felt the tap on my shoulder. I turned around without delay, thoroughly anticipating seeing Mrs. Dinsmore ready to discuss the custodial plan for a speedy exit. To my wonderment, it was Brittany, and she wanted to dance. She envisioned connecting in slow motion over Lionel Richie like two star-crossed sweethearts. Brittany was no Madonna. She certainly was not an Olivia. Not even a scanty reflection of Cindy Lauper; she wasn't popular at all. If I danced with her, I would lose any ground I had earned this year, desperately attempting to obtain immortality amongst my peers. I stared dead into her eyes and said no. I wandered off and commenced folding chairs. This past Thanksgiving, after dinner, I sat around with family and friends. We played a game called what would you change. It's been thirty-five years, and the ninth-grade dance still disturbs me. I'd give anything to convince my teenage self to accept that last dance of the evening with Brittany. At the moment, I believed it would wreck some hollow reputation. Now I regret not simply saying yes. I had no idea if my dismissal even phased her. Regardless, I should have danced with you, Brittany, and if I could change my error, I would. Regretfully this is a lesson I've had to learn multiple times throughout my life. Sure, my mistakes have led me to my place in this world, but what I did to Brittany was cruel. I was a mean boy—shame on me for being selfish when life is too short for that nonsense.
In line with TARTLE's mission to promote climate stability, one of its Big 7, James and Alex welcomed Suzanne Simard to the podcast. Suzanne, who is a Professor of Forest Ecology at the University of British Columbia and the author of Finding the Mother Tree: Discovering The Wisdom of the Forest, explores the significance of emphasizing data-driven action on climate change — particularly on the old-growth forests of British Columbia. She offers an eye-opening perspective on the deterioration of these old-growth forests and the colossal amount of environmental data with untapped potential. Throughout their discussion, she also drew plenty of thoughtful parallels between big data and the fight against deforestation. Old Growth Forests: Massive Data Networks? The complex data networks making up a bulk of the tech systems we are heavily dependent on today are eerily similar to the interactions of trees in old growth forests. Suzanne realized that trees are in constant conversation underground. This is made possible with the help of sophisticated fungal networks that link one tree to the rest of the forest. However, this large-scale communication network is displaced when the old forests are cut down — and even when plantations are created, the network “goes silent for a little while.” Even when the forest begins to rebuild, it would take decades — if not centuries — for these areas to regain the same complexity that they once had when they interacted as a society of trees in an old growth forest. Beyond the impact of this loss to local biodiversity, there is much to be said about how clearcutting these old growth forests is akin to cutting off entire societies from communicating with one another. This, inherently, is an injustice to our environment and a setback at our attempt to become true stewards of the earth. Selective Harvesting Versus Clear-Cutting Suzanne introduced the importance of selective harvesting, a regenerative method that allows trees to grow back without trouble. While this is the best step forward, most companies in status quo prefer to clearcut entire forests because of the reduced cost. One particularly harmful practice of clearcutting is the harvest of “mother trees” — big, old trees that are both the most ecologically valuable in the forest and the most profitable. When corporations use clearcutting to profit from forests, they set back the local environment in five distinct ways. The first is the loss of biodiversity; the second is the loss of carbon, an element that's important for sustaining life; next is a rise in water levels, a change in soil temperature, and an increased rate of decomposition. Can't See The Forest For The Trees For many people, it's easier to focus on the problems that are directly in their sight instead of trying to grasp the bigger picture. Regretfully, this decision becomes a matter of survival in some situations: low-income families depend heavily on the sachet economy to get by, tech-challenged SMEs in rural areas still rely on paper documentation to keep track of their business, and the shift to renewable products can often be difficult because these items have a higher upfront cost. We are challenged to think of the environment in two ways: first, to look beyond the concerns that plague our day-to-day activities; and second, to help others who are not as fortunate or as privileged as us get the access to look beyond as well. There is a massive network of corporations, institutions, and individuals that enable the pace at which our climate is dying. It's going to take a whole new level of mindfulness before we start changing how this works on a noticeable level — not just for ourselves and our loved ones, but for our communities as well. Stewardship: What We Owe Each Other Suzanne points out that humanity's relationship with the environment has evolved significantly. On a continuum, foresting started off as an exploitative practice; but as we realized that we only had a finite amount of resources to work with, we made an attempt to regulate and then manage these harvests. In the ‘80s and ‘90s, the US entered a period of science-based management. It was here, she explains, that the big leagues understood the connection between deforestation, climate change, and big data. But despite our progress, we have yet to reach a stage where we can accurately call ourselves stewards of the environment. This title calls for us to be proactive about the land and to hold ourselves accountable for climate change, not just as a present concern but also as a part of our intergenerational ethic. Consent is one of the most important conversations that any clinician has with a patient. Regretfully, many practitioners will bypass the conversation, assuming knowledge. Sometimes they substitute the conversation with written documentation, but what if the patient is not a strong reader and is too embarrassed to tell you? This episode of CaseMatters explores consent in this context.

Episode 039 of That Was Disappointing is Live. Still more popular than Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch! Today’s Theme: Baseball. We even brought in an extra panelist to pinch hit for Art as there’s only two balls he’s familiar with. Our first topic is MLB’s lack of a salary cap. Lex wants to know if it makes a difference or do good teams just do smart things (e.g, the Baltimore Orioles from 1966-1983) and bad teams just do dumb things (e.g., the Baltimore Orioles from 1984 to 2180). Our second topic is whether baseball is still considered to be America’s pastime. *guffaws* Sure thing, Art. Also, the Tooth Fairy is real and Mall Santas really do fly home to the North Pole every night. Seriously though, who else thinks Curling is ready to step up and earn its place in the sun? Our third topic is reminiscing about the best game we ever attended. This was just an excuse for Ryan to talk about the time he got to sing the national anthem before a game. Regretfully, Dave didn’t share the tale about the time he met *redacted* in the tunnel and their (mis)adventures with the bat handle. Our fourth (not final!?) topic is why is baseball just so gosh darn boring? I’m football, you have 11 separate battles on every single play; in baseball, you have a lot of crotch adjusting and stepping off the mound. I mean, the sports couldn’t be any more similar, Kenny. Just one of life’s many great mysteries... And lastly, our final topic has to do with the best baseball film of all-time. Newcomer George had the perfect opportunity to make the case for The Bad News Bears Go to Japan but he punted for one of the classics. Speaking of, how could Tom Selleck and his beautiful mustache get no votes for Mr. Baseball? Come listen to the podcast that’s receiving rave reviews on the Apple Store. And not just from our wives!
Show Notes:In this episode I read the third chapter "The Brahman Class," from my memoir, Not As Crazy As You Think. In 1994, I arrive in New Delhi, India to visit an old college friend, who was born into the royal Brahman Class. After meeting Sumit's parents, I learn how this highest class believes they’ve earned their lucky place in the caste system at the top of the evolutionary pyramid through the principle of Karma. And all other Indians deserve their lot as well; particularly the Untouchables—the plagued sect of society that swarms the New Delhi streets.Regretfully, during a discussion at supper with the family, as a naive American female, I unintentionally cross a mighty cultural line with my comment, and probing Mrs. Nayar then becomes suspicious of my trip. After hobnobbing at a party for a night with Sumit’s friends at a neighborhood mansion attended by secular aristocrats, I realize with an anxious stirring I do not belong. #India #notascrazyasyouthink #badkarma #mentalillness #mentalhealthPlease visit my website at: http://www.notascrazyasyouthink.com/Don't forget to subscribe to the Not As Crazy As You Think YouTube channel @SicilianoJenConnect:Instagram: @jengaita LinkedIn: @jensicilianoTwitter: @jsiciliano

In 1866 a man named Alfred Nobel invented dynamite. He developed the explosive power of nitroglycerin in stick form so that it would be beneficial primarily in mining and demolition work. People began to use dynamite to clear debris for the building of roads and bridges. The power of dynamite had the ability to improve the progress of construction and the development of roads and communities. But soon, nations discovered how to use it for war. That same dynamite that was created to build society could also be used to destroy life by bombing an enemy. Alfred Nobel was so impacted by the negative use of dynamite that before he died, he bequeathed his vast fortune to the establishment of the Nobel Peace Prize. He didn't want his legacy to be connected to destruction; he wanted it to be connected to peace. Like Aldred Nobel, we too possess a great power. It's a power that can be used for good, or a power that can be used for evil. What is this power we possess? It is the power of our words. With our words, our attitude, and even the tone of our voice, we have the power to inspire, encourage, uplift, bless, motivate, and influence others. We also have the power to discourage, tear-down, devalue, hurt, wound, and offend others. Each one of us possesses this power. In James 1:19-20 the Bible says, “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.”There has never been more communication than there is today. There have never been more outlets and opportunities to speak. I am painfully aware that everyday I have the opportunity to make a difference with my words. Regretfully, sometimes I fail. But I want to speak words of life, hope, encouragement, and blessing. This doesn't mean that I don't speak the truth, quite the contrary. We speak truth, we share Christ, we point people to Scripture….but how we do it matters greatly. When I speak from a position of anger it usually closes the ears of my listener and I do more damage than good…even when my intent was to share truth.James says we should be slow to speak. Let's think this through. Slow to speak. Slow to react. Slow to respond. Slow to comment on social media. Slow to fire back a text. Slow to speak out of judgment, criticism, frustration, or anger. God's Word is asking us to be slow to speak.Proverbs 13:3 - “Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.”Proverbs 10:19 - “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.”So, how can we honor God with our words and our conversations? A tool to help us slow down is a filter. You can filter your words by first asking a few questions. Consider what you are tempted to say and then answer these questions:Is it helpful?Does it build others up?Does it benefit the listener? What is my motive in speaking?Am I speaking from a place of anger? Are my words critical and judgmental?Am I using wisdom as I speak? We might be tempted to say, “It's the truth, so I'm going to say it.” But the Holy Spirit wants to guide, not only what we say, but how we say it. Remember the fruit of the Spirit. These character traits are the ongoing evidence of the Spirit of God in our lives. God wants us to grow in the fruit of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We can apply all of these character traits to how we speak whether it's verbal or in written form.Today's Challenge: We desperately need to help of the Holy Spirit to become slow in our speaking. Make some time to pray and ask God for his help and his wisdom. Today you'll have the opportunity to practice this new skill. May God give you strength.
Episode 28 features Rachel Kennerly, who is a wife, homeschool mom, Illini by birth, but Texan by the grace of God, and host of the podcasts Cannabis Heals Me and Just Add Liberty. A Certified Public Accountant by day, Rachel's a fighter for liberty and a friend. In discussing “Everyday freedom and how to find it in an unfree world,” we chat about everything from home-education, adoption, storytelling, and secession, to gardening, whittling, maskholes, and, of course, cannabis. Some mentions in the interview: “Whatever Happened to Justice?” by Richard J. Maybury; Andrew Pudewa's Institute for Excellence in Writing, Classical Conversations, which I've written about before; and cultural-Marxist creep into homeschooling. Speaking of which, I'm the admin of a little private social-media group called Keep the PC Out of Home Education. It's one of the only remaining glimmers of hope left on Fedbook, at least in my world, so please do consider joining the cool collective. Lastly, Rachel and I talk about the bad American history that sometimes pervades even quality homeschool curriculum, so I have included a short “Civil War” essay that my oldest son penned a few of years ago. It was composed contrary to the provided “source text,” but it can give you an idea of just what you and your children can do, even within the confines of sometimes status-quo material. Like we homeschoolers say, everything is a learning opportunity! “The Uncivil War”By HoustonEssentials – Lesson 16January 18, 2018 Honestly, the Civil War, which took place from 1861 to 1865, was not a civil war at all. A “civil war” is a conflict between fellow countrymen for domination and control of the general government. A better name for it is the War of Northern Aggression since the Union illegally invaded the Southern states. Or it could be called the Second War for American Independence because the Confederate States of America was fighting for self-determination and against tyrannical central authority, just as the Founding Fathers had done. Regretfully, many people's thinking is askew on this issue. They presume the war was solely about slavery. However, it was much more complicated than this popularly mimicked moral misjudgment. Indeed, the South was agricultural and used some slave labor, whereas the North was more industrial. According to the best research, only 5 to 25 percent of Southern farmers owned slaves at the beginning of the war. Shocking to some people was that slavery existed in border states and also in the Federal capital, Washington, D.C. In fact, it was “King Cotton” that helped build the North's prosperous cities. A common myth espoused is that the evil South wanted to count slaves as three-fifths of a human, but it was really the North that pushed that “compromise.” Why? To make the Southern states impotent in Congress. Slavery was just a symptom of the protracted disease, which was a power struggle amid the North and South's differing cultures. A few other unshakable animosities included: taxing power, tariffs, and trade; the Constitution as a “voluntary compact” and the right to peacefully leave the Union; sectionalism, states' rights, and self-preservation; and Congressional representation and Western expansionTherefore, 11 indignant states parted from the Union, but each for its own reasons. For example, North Carolina and Virginia didn't secede until Lincoln sent 75,000 Federal troops marching through those states. Their citizens were simply resolved to defend their homes. This was absolutely the bloodiest war in American history. The four-year struggle between the Confederacy and its Indian allies (the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole Nations) and the Union killed nearly 700,000 men, women, and children – white, black, and Native alike. This was truly an unnecessary and “uncivil” war, and we're still living with the political consequences of it today.

To help us explore this question, Jonathan Martinetto joins me today to share his work helping people create viable home and backyard aquatic ecosystems. These systems, whether a countertop tank or outdoor pond, allow us to grow fish and food, while caring for our environment and community, using aquaponics. In this introductory conversEmation, Jonathan shares some of the basics to consider when putting together a system, including minimum yield, some of the species appropriate for his environment in Melbourne, Australia, and resources to learn the basics before setting up your own system. You can Jonathan's aquaponics work at Melbournequaponics.com.au and his free, online course at aquaponicsrevolution.com. As permaculture practitioners, we need to have as many tools that are appropriate to our needs in our toolkit as possible in order to find the right solutions. All the solutions to our problems are out there, but it's a matter of knowing about the options in order to be able to implement them, so conversations like this with Jonathan to introduce aquaponics, or the recent episode with Matt Arthur to talk about bokashi, expand on what we can bring to bear to solve out design, systemic, or community problems. With that need to know in mind, are there any subjects that you would like to hear an introduction to in the future? If so, send me an email and let me know that topic and any people or resources I should consider. Jenn: Can you tell us about your story of this time that you went from marathoner to getting an injury that made it so you couldn't do any sort of exercising? Lynn: I went from a marathoner to injured to take about three years off of running to becoming a marathoner. Then back to Marathon. It was really when I started struggling with my weight and the idea of dieting because I was always healthy. I always had this wonderfully healthy lifestyle that I loved, and I didn't have a problem eating, anything because I was always running off calories doing what I do, which is running. And then everything changed. The first thing that happened was I had both of my Achilles tear. When this happens they leave you immobile, you're not supposed to walk, you're not supposed to run, you're not supposed to do anything with moving them. There's not a lot of movement that you can do. There are stretching and stuff that I could do, but it sends you into a kind of a spiral mindset. If you are in the state of mind that I was in, I wasn't even aware of what I was thinking at the time, so I had the fears. It's set into motion. These negative thought patterns, this self-shaming. I can't run, I can't do anything, I'm gaining weight. And that's when I really started noticing a habit that I had already had but was able to ignore before which was emotional eating. And then of course over the course of three years, many things happen. My father was diagnosed with cancer, I started helping them downsize their house and sell their house, move their house. In the meantime, my husband and I also sold our house. All this stuff just happened right? I was sitting at my heaviest way, incredibly unhappy looking at my life thinking. How am I going to get a handle on it? I've tried these diets, they're not working. There has to be an easier way. And that was a turning point. I was just so unhappy my whole life was consumed around a diet mindset, a diet mentality, hiding and shaming myself for emotionally binge eating and drinking, and I was like Something's got to change here. And that was when I decided to make the big change to starting the inside journey, which once I opened that door. I was never able to close it again because it's like the light goes off and change begins to happen. I was in a really bad spot I was beating myself up, I didn't realize how much my inner critic was just talking shit to me all the time, I was, I was self-medicating with wine in the evenings and paying for it. Regretfully, the next day because it just is a depressant, right? And then I would eat the wrong things, and all this and then I would restrict myself and on Monday I'm starting to diet. I'm going start a diet again and that was my pattern, and then I fall off the wagon. Because we all know, diets don't work, they don't work, there's no reason that anyone should be on the diet. When I really hit that bottom, which is different for everybody, I knew that I couldn't do it alone, and I'm going to be completely honest. Nobody that wants to move out of that mindset can do it alone. They have to find a mentor, whether it's you, whether it's me, whether it's somebody else out there that's not even involved in dieting, it doesn't matter, you can't do it alone. And so I found my first mentor, and I signed on with her for a year and so within the first two months, but I outgrew her. I was already looking for other mentors and she was great while I had her, and I continued my whole year with her, I just was adding other mentors on top of it. Because the momentum that was behind it just brought so much joy to me. And you just have to find the right fit for you. I have plenty of mentors. I feel like a lot of that fear comes from feeling unw

In our latest Podcast, Adam Zickerman and Mike Rogers welcome Laura Crump Anderson, InForm's Equestrian Fitness Specialist, to discuss the importance of being your strongest and fittest for your athletic sport. Whatever your sport may be, all athletes need to train smart if they want to stay in the game!Specific to this Podcast, however, Laura's shameless obsession is clear – the Equestrian Athlete. Laura unwaveringly asserts that your horse is not the only athlete and excellence takes two to Tango. If you are an Equestrian, your horse depends on you being in your best physical shape, period. Regretfully, many overlook this critical fact. If you consider yourself, and not just the horse, to be the competitive athletes you both truly are, the hard message is this: Equestrians need to build muscle to their optimal capacity! Most obviously, muscle protects the Rider's body from the beating the sport takes on themselves, but equally because a stronger Rider serves the HORSE exponentially! Ironically, the Equestrian will fully appreciate the distinction – if not for yourself, strive to be your strongest if only for the horses you LOVE! Equestrians are so admirably dedicated to their horses, but often at the expense of themselves in a multitude of ways. Every Rider, from Coast to Coast, possesses a sincere love for their horses. In Virginia – give Laura 20 twenty minutes just once a week and she will give you AND your horse the essential competitive edge you seek, not to mention a better life with less injury. No one serves the (human) athlete better than we do at InForm Fitness. Obsessions aside, whatever your athletic sport may be, InForm Fitness can custom design a program for anyone looking to take their athletic edge to the next level, whether that be from your sedentary desk job to being in the best shape of your life, OR for the elite athlete inside you screaming to get out!Adam Zickerman – Power of 10: The Once-A-Week Slow Motion Fitness Revolution: http://bit.ly/ThePowerofTen For a FREE 20-Minute strength training full-body workout and to find an Inform Fitness location nearest you, please visit: http://bit.ly/Podcast_FreeWorkoutAdam Zickerman – Power of 10: The Once-A-Week Slow Motion Fitness Revolution: http://bit.ly/ThePowerofTenFor a FREE 20-Minute strength training full-body workout and to find an Inform Fitness location nearest you, please visit: http://bit.ly/Podcast_FreeWorkoutThe InForm Fitness Podcast is brought to you in part, by Audible - get a FREE audiobook download and 30-day free trial at www.audibletrial.com/InBoundYou will find over 180,000 titles to choose from and to listen to through your iPhone, Android, Kindle or mp3 player. Hi listeners, for this weeks episode of the Warships Podcast we discuss Clan Battles! Finally after waiting all this time World of Warships gets the highly anticipated clan competitive mode that has been long sought after by its player base. The cast breaks this topic down and discusses what is currently known and also speculates as to what might be with this new competitive mode. Getting started on the Clan Battles topic the cast jumps into the controversial issues, beginning with the exclusion of the Carrier class from Clan Battles Season 1. This has drawn widespread criticism and praise from supporters and opponents alike. The podcast crew gives their opinions as well as echo and discuss some of those from other Warship Community members. With the limits to CV's, the cast touches on the other limits and that is that one team will only be able to bring up to 1 Battleship per. Great discussion and debate follows and Clan Battle's Meta is also brought up. While on the subject of Battleships, the cast moves to discuss BB meta and what ships will most likely be viable in this new competitive setting. All the BB's are hashed out with the strengths and weaknesses they bring and how they will stack in a Cruiser heavy meta. With the ship type of Cruisers the cast shifts into what will most likely be the prominent class seen and breaks down what they feel might be the viable Cruiser options to be played in the meta. Last class in this topic is Destroyers and the crew expands on the Cruiser meta and how DD's will play a role in it and how a Destroyer will have to play with the excess amounts of radar, hydro, and other non Anti Air abilities that Cruisers will now be free to load up with out the presences of CV's. Regretfully with time constraints the crew was not able to touch on two new ships we have been testing but will get to that topic in the next cast. Thank you everyone for listening and look forward to having you next time on the Warships Podcast!
