General aviation Garmin G1000 in a Cessna 182 Many modern general aviation aircraft are available with glass cockpits. Systems such as the Garmin G1000 are now available on many new GA aircraft, including the classic Cessna 172. Many small aircraft can also be modified post-production to replace analogue instruments. Glass cockpits are also popular as a retrofit for older private jets and turboprops such as Dassault Falcons, Raytheon Hawkers, Bombardier Challengers, Cessna Citations, Gulfstreams, King Airs, Learjets, Astras, and many others. Aviation service companies work closely with equipment manufacturers to address the needs of the owners of these aircraft. Consumer, research, hobby & recreational aviation. Today, smartphones and tablets use mini-applications, or "apps", to remotely control complex devices, by WiFi radio interface. They demonstrate how the "glass cockpit" idea is being applied to consumer devices. Applications include toy-grade UAVs which use the display and touch screen of a tablet or smartphone to employ every aspect of the "glass cockpit" for instrument display, and fly-by-wire for aircraft control. Spaceflight. The Space Shuttle glass cockpit The glass cockpit idea made news in 1980s trade magazines, like Aviation Week & Space Technology, when NASA announced that it would be replacing most of the electro-mechanical flight instruments in the space shuttles with glass cockpit components. The articles mentioned how glass cockpit components had the added benefit of being a few hundred pounds lighter than the original flight instruments and support systems used in the Space Shuttles. The Space Shuttle Atlantis was the first orbiter to be retrofitted with a glass cockpit in 2000 with the launch of STS-101. Columbia was the second orbiter with a glass cockpit on STS-109 in 2002, followed by Discovery in 2005 with STS-114, and Endeavour in 2007 with STS-118. NASA's Orion spacecraft will use glass cockpits derived from Boeing 787 Dreamliner. As aircraft operation depends on glass cockpit systems, flight crews must be trained to deal with failures. The Airbus A320 family has seen fifty incidents where several flight displays were lost. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Rian Potter was one of my instructors in flight school and is also a great mate. He is now in his dream job, flying King Airs for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). Although not a working seaplane pilot, Rian received a FREE floatplane endorsement some years ago and talks about how it was one of his most exciting aviation adventures. He also shares the personal experience of being involved in an aviation accident and how he recovered mentally to be where he is today. This show’s guest is Tyler Dodson, a Captain that I recently flew with at a Regional Airline. He got his start in flying in high school and perused his aviation career by flight instruction and flying King Airs. He was hired as a regional pilot on his 21st birthday. He made captain by age 24 and is currently writing a book about his aviation adventures and stories he has experienced. Tyler has many stories of challenges that he faced on his road to becoming a commercial pilot, as well as when he became one, not to mention the current situation caused by COVID-19. He has also had notable passengers on board, such as Mike Rowe, where he discusses education and the different type of aviation jobs that are out there.
ASG’s Max Buirski talks to Wing-X Managing Director Richard Koe about how Wing-X tracks business aviation, flight statistics before, during (and hopefully) after the Covid-19 outbreak, what they are seeing in China, Europe and America, the impact of ADS-B, tracking charters compared to corporate and managed flights, staying anonymous, and trends in ultra-long range aircraft, King Airs and VLJs.To learn more about Asian Sky Media’s Fleet Week please visit hereTo find out more about Wing-X please visit hereTo learn more about Richard please visit here

Pete and Simpson go on tangents about King Airs, Cirrus Aircraft, pilot decision making, Kansas City and what is a turboprop anyways?!
Ron Rapp doesn’t really need an introduction. But if you haven’t heard of him, he’s a ATP-rated pilot with experience in more than 60 aircraft types, including tailwheel aircraft, aerobatics, formation flying, gliders, seaplanes, turboprops, business jets, warbirds, experimentals, radials, technologically advanced aircraft, and more.Ron has logged more than 9,000 hours over the past 20 years doing a wide variety of things. He’s volunteered with Angel Flight, written mile-long messages in the air as a SkyTyper, crop-dusted with ex-military King Airs, flown across oceans in a Gulfstream IV-SP, and tumbled through the air in his Pitts S-2B.His experience includes owning three aircraft (thankfully not all at the same time) and a long stint as an IAC aerobatic competitor up through the Advanced level. He’s also an accredited National-level judge and his 2,500 hours of dual instruction include teaching recreational and competition-style aerobatics to numerous students in the Pitts, Extra, Decathlon, Eagle, other such aircraft. He has a particular fondness for the RV series and has instructed in all the two-seat RV models. On the other side of the coin, he’s logged 1,000 hours in the Cirrus and Columbia/Corvalis series and is intimately familiar with wide variety of glass panels and FMS systems.http://www.rapp.org/News Links: Boeing CEO Video: https://www.seattletimes.com/business/boeing-aerospace/preliminary-crash-report-reveals-detail-of-ethiopian-pilots-fight-against-the-737-max-flight-controls/Stephen Pope Flying Article: https://www.flyingmag.com/boeing-provides-details-737-max-software-fixRob Mark Flying Article: https://www.flyingmag.com/more-bad-news-for-boeing?cmpid=ene20190411Seattle Times Article: https://www.seattletimes.com/business/boeing-aerospace/preliminary-crash-report-reveals-detail-of-ethiopian-pilots-fight-against-the-737-max-flight-controls/Barrons article: https://www.barrons.com/articles/delta-stock-is-up-because-earnings-show-it-can-keep-up-the-momentum-51554907109 Support: https://www.patreon.com/podcastingonaplaneBuy me a coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/BravoGolfYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCx1DKOUuGxohHU5YxEC_w0w?view_as=subscriberInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/podcastingonaplane/Twitter: podcastonaplaneWebsite: www.podcastingonaplane.com Music by: Future Joust Make sure to use good equipment!Bose Headset: https://amzn.to/2FFaKjNBose ProFlight: https://amzn.to/2VZAJrPLightspeed Sierra Headset: https://amzn.to/2suAqYALightspeed Zulu 3 Headset: https://amzn.to/2RPGg5iDavid Clark: https://amzn.to/2FE3y7r #aviation #aviationphotography #flying #atc #airtrafficcontrol #airtrafficcontrolpodcast #aviationpodcast #aopa #whywefly #foreflight #erau #purdue #avgeek #instaaviation #avgeekery #pilotlife #audioengineer #podcastingonaplane
