Lao-tzu said, “the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” Our guest for this episode is a dreamer who, as a child, couldn't stop thinking about being in the film business. Today, as an actor, director, and producer Manish Dayal shares what he's learned about navigating imposter syndrome and how he finds balance through diversifying his focus. His career has led him to work on incredible shows such as 90210, RUBICON, HALT AND CATCH FIRE, and MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. He starred opposite Helen Mirren in THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY, a film produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey. In his directorial debut, FIFTEEN YEARS LATER, he shares the screen with Matt McGorry and Rachel Brosnahan. And currently, Manish can be seen reprising his role as ‘Dr. Devon Pravesh' on 4th season of Fox's THE RESIDENT. We delve into set life during a pandemic and how that affects Manish's heightened sense of… Well, just listen and you'll find out! If you need some inspiration on finding your way back into artistry you've come to the right place. Sometimes all you need is a reminder that spring comes after winter. This week’s MUST WATCH multicultural movie is The Hundred-Foot Journey. Based on the novel by Richard C. Morais, the 100 Foot Journey is the story of a young man Hassan Kadam (played by Manish Dayal), his father and 3 siblings, who immigrate to a small village in France after their home is burned down in Mumbai India. They used to own a well known restaurant in India where Hassan learned how to cook from his mother, who was killed in the fire. So they’re in this small town in France and Hassan’s dad decides to purchase & restore an old restaurant and convert it into an Indian restaurant inspired with recipes inspired by his late wife’s recipe, BUT the restaurant is 100 feet away from this 1 Michelin star French restaurant, hence the name the 100 foot Journey owned by structured. Recorded Pre-Election, in a just as complex but not nearly as insane time, Manish Dayal (Hundred Foot Journey, Halt and Catch Fire, 90210) swings by Headgum studios to chat about working together Off-Broadway in the play Rafta Rafta (EW top 10 of 2008), and how he feels to be one of the few romantic leading males of South-Asian descent in Hollywood. He discusses the types of roles he wants to play, the type of roles he gets to play, and how is flawless good looks have hindered his career. An Eloquent, thoughtful and hilarious conversation. DO NOT MISS HISTORY BEING MADE!!!
The Hundred-Foot Journey is anything but shy on the subject of flavor. The film's star, Manish Dayal, talks about his upbringing in two cultures and helps answer what makes a "food film" worth watching.
