Beverage concepts are proliferating across the country, and for good reason. As Pat Cobe, senior menu editor of Restaurant Business, reported recently and discussed on this week's podcast, Gen Z has become a generation of afternoon treat-buyers and they enjoy rewarding themselves with something colorful and refreshing that they can exhibit proudly on social media. Hence the proliferation of beverage concepts such as HTeaO, Sip Fresh, and Krak Boba, among many others. In fact, she and Nation's Restaurant News senior food & beverage editor Bret Thorn noted that big chains have gotten in on the act, launching their own beverage-focused concepts such as Taco Bell's Live Más Café and McDonald's CosMc's.In food news, the co-hosts groused a bit about the relentless spread of hot honey (Subway jumped on the bandwagon last week) and suggested alternatives, such as sweet Thai chile sauce, or maybe brown sugar with habanero. Maybe hot honey is becoming table stakes at restaurants, but it's not going to get anyone's attention anymore. Other chains are flexing their creative muscles, however, such as Pokeworks, which just came out with a line of “Hot Plates” that resemble a Hawaiian midday staple called the plate lunch, made with some kind of center-of-the-plate protein accompanied by two scoops of rice and macaroni salad. Pat and Bret observed that Hawaiian food is becoming more prevalent on the mainland and is worth looking into. Fogo de Chão is making sure that its customers can spend as much money as they like when they visit with the introduction of an Indulgent Churrasco menu, about $20 more than the concept's all-you-can-eat Churrasco Experience and featuring luxury items such as lobster and bone marrow. Then Bret shared an interview with Jesús Méndez, a restaurateur and bar owner in Birmingham, Alabama, who recently opened Salud Taqueria, bringing Mexican street food to the center of the city.

What is this Movie? A musical, set in an apocalyptic world covered in snow and ice, where a small collective has been surviving very well off in a luxurious bunker. While attempting to live out the rest of their days with silver-spoon syndrome an outsider separated from her family stumbles into their home and begs them to let her stay. They reluctantly allow her to stay where-in she and their only son develop a romantic relationship. But for everyone else, this outsider is a living reflection of their own shame and the atrocities they've committed and buried deep down in hopes to never resurface. What is this Film? It's an apocalyptic musical. It's whimsical Silo. It's Blast from the Past if Adam never actually went back to the surface but instead contracted a strong case of jungle fever. And then finds out his pompous parents are cowards and liars. The End is a story about a group of people who delusionally parade about their aristocracy to distract themselves from the fact that the world has ended, and they might be responsible for it. And this they were fine with, this disgrace all their own they had come to accept even maybe forgotten until one of the offspring of the last living survivors they abandoned decades ago forces them to wake up and remember who they really are and the horrible things they did for their own self-preservation. Billions of people died, and these people all just buried their guilt and survivor's remorse in walls of snow and ice surrounding themselves with meaningless privilege. In a world with no poor, how can there be any rich. What is power if there is nothing left to rule? If you leave humanity to die, are you still human? I couldn't get enough of Moses Ingram as Girl, yes that's her name, in this movie. I had no idea the woman could sing. Her duet “Catch Fire” with romantic co-star George MacKay has been living rent free in my head for days now. Her conviction on screen is palpable as she struggles with her own survivor's remorse after growing up in the cold is heart-wrenching. Every time she sings I think I started melting away into a big ball of man tears. Your boy is not a big musical fan but in an interview, George MacKay said something to the tune of “this was made for the big screen” and I have to agree. This film deserves your full attention from the moment MacKay as Boy reveals his desire to experience anything of the world he never got to know. He longs for the outside, longs to feel the sun, longs to express his emotions and talk about his feelings with his family, in hopes they reciprocate. But this is just not to be. Dad, played by Michael Shannon, has an established order. He treats Boy as if he's preparing him for the world, a world where you work on manifestos and read them aloud in your study, because this bunker has a damn study. Mom, Tilda Swinton, floats about from room to room nitpicking in the name of perfection. You never know when guest might be coming over. We must make sure there's enough soup spoons for everyone. And yet, you can see she's unstable and full of contempt. Everyone else in the house is just playing the role that keeps them sheltered. A Doctor, a Butler, a Friend, and Mary in addition to are all that makes up of what's left of humanity in this world. They even put on performances for entertainment where you can clearly see these people used to be people. They used to have real worth but now have been reduced to props. Beautifully, the real story here is told through the music. All of the emotions come out through song, which took me a while to pick up on. At first I thought they would just randomly sing short snippets of songs depending on where they were standing in the house. These aren't long ballads but instead short melodies, where the vocalist through subtle metaphors reveal their internal conflicts. They don't really sing and then cut to the next season as a way of transitioning through the plot poin...

This December, these investigators of the weird make their DC All In debut with the new Challengers of the Unknown, a five-issue limited series written by Christopher Cantwell (Plastic Man No More!) with art by Sean Izaakse (Green Arrow). Spinning out of Absolute Power and the DC All In Special, the terror of the Darkseid shock wave has cascaded across the DC Universe…tearing open the very fabric of time and space itself! Only one band of super-scientists have the right stuff to challenge the fate of a universe: the Challengers of the Unknown. Ace Morgan, June Robbins, Prof Haley, Red Ryan, and Rocky Davis, adventurers “living on borrowed time,” run day-to-day operations for the Justice League's Watchtower base in orbit above Earth, collaborating with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the League to seal the rifts that threaten the galaxy. But a mysterious foe from the Challengers' past lurks in the shadows, and its connection to the Darkseid wave will put not only the Challengers, but all of the DC Universe on borrowed time. Plastic Man No More From the publisher Eel O'Brian might be a superhero now—but before he was anything else, he was a crook. Until the accident that turned him into the pliable Plastic Man, Eel was bad to the bone…and just because he no longer has bones doesn't mean that's not still true. When an incident on a Justice League mission leads to catastrophic cellular damage, Plastic Man discovers he just might be out of time to make amends for the past he's tried hard to outrun—or to save the soul of his son, who (unfortunately for him) might have inherited more from dear old Dad than just his superpowers. Hello to you listening in Barrigada Village, Guam!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Interestingly, the word passion finds its root in both the Latin word passiō and the Greek word pathos, which both mean “suffering” suggesting that the things we care most about come from a place of suffering rather than joy.Today, passion means having very strong feelings about or a strong belief in something that moves you to action. Have we lost the notion of suffering? Not really. While the intent of the word has been diluted consider that being passionate is engaging in an intense desire to go toward your dreams. When you are truly passionate, you are motivated such that you are willing to endure pain and suffering to achieve your goals.Passion is what drives us. It helps us build our purpose and goals, our knowledge and capability. When we are deeply passionate our excitement attracts other people, as in this example: “If you catch fire with enthusiasm people will come from miles around to watch you burn. Now THAT's being passionate!”Question: What goal or dream might have the potential to set you on fire with enthusiasm and passion? You're always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out What I Offer,✓ Arrange your free Story Start-up Session,✓ Stay current with me on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer's Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. We don't cover TV very often on Watch With Jen so you know that when my guests & I dedicate an entire episode to a television series, it's something we wholeheartedly recommend you seek out. (In fact, THE AMERICANS, COLUMBO, TERRIERS, HALT & CATCH FIRE, MR. INBETWEEN, & SUCCESSION are among the few exceptions to this film-centric show in over 200 podcast installments.)As the opposite of a true crime buff who usually avoids serial killer stories in entertainment (except ZODIAC), this season, my good buddies, actor-producer Rob Belushi & the prolific podcaster Blake Howard challenged me to watch & discuss Netflix's critically lauded series MINDHUNTER, produced by David Fincher. Although I warned them at the beginning of the experiment that if I started having nightmares, they'd get a phone call no matter what time it was, I soon found myself fully hooked on the marvelous series about the start of the FBI criminal profiling unit, starring Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, & Anna Torv.Coming together to hash everything out in this surprisingly rollicking, enlightening, & story-filled analytical chat, we investigate MINDHUNTER, bond over our affection for McCallany as Bill Tench (as well as the rest of the amazing cast), enjoy Rob's impressions, share some experiences from my life that scare the boys, & more. While unfortunately, we can't deliver the third season of the show so many of you want, we hope you'll consider this appreciation of MINDHUNTER the next best thing to tide you over.Originally Posted on Patreon (10/14/24) here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/114006176Theme Music: Solo Acoustic Guitar by Jason Shaw, Free Music ArchiveShop Watch With Jen logo Merchandise in Logo Designer Kate Gabrielle's Threadless ShopDonate to the Pod via Ko-fi

AP correspondent Jackie Quinn reports on a warning about possible problems with electric vehicles in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
Urgency is a currency for Isaiah Collier, an ambitious young saxophonist from the South Side of Chicago. We recently caught up with him at Solar Myth in Philly, where he played music from two new albums — The Almighty and The World is On Fire — that showcase his powerful working band, the Chosen Few. As much a dynamo in conversation as he is with his horn, Collier talked about stirring emotions, honoring elders, channeling energies, and his problem with the term “spiritual jazz.” Also see: NYT: Isaiah Collier Funnels a ‘Very Radical Time' into a Vivid New Album Support WRTI: https://bit.ly/2yAkaJsSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
I've been a very big fan of Mackenzie Davis' for some time. I quite enjoyed our very first interview for What If back in 2013 and, like many out there, absolutely adored the AMC series, Halt and Catch Fire. While my enthusiasm for Davis' work continues, the more we talk, the more why I'm drawn to her work in general comes into focus. During this latest conversation, Davis noted, “I do really give a shit, and I'm not a good liar.” That right there sums up her vibe in all interviews. Her answers are always impassioned and honest. Not only does that make her an especially wonderful Collider Ladies Night guest, but those qualities bolster every single film she's in, including her latest, Speak No Evil.Inspired by the 2022 Danish original, James Watkins' Speak No Evil stars Davis and her Halt and Catch Fire co-star, Scoot McNairy, as Louise and Ben, a couple vacationing with their daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler) in Italy. While there, they meet Paddy (James McAvoy), Ciara (Aisling Franciosi), and their son, Ant (Dan Hough). After enjoying their getaway with this far more free-spirited couple, it's time for Louise and Ben to return home where they must face relationship woes and financial struggles. When they receive an invitation to visit Paddy and Ciara's countryside home, they accept hoping that another day-to-day shake-up could be just what they need to put them on a better path. The trouble is, this particular getaway is destined to become a psychological nightmare. The original Speak No Evil is an exceptional film, which left many wondering, why remake it, especially so soon after the original's release? Admittedly, I was quite skeptical myself, but then I saw the new movie. Not only is Watkins' Speak No Evil a hugely entertaining and effective thrill, but it's also one that sparks a fascinating conversation about human connection and how far one is willing to be pushed. In particular, how far can Davis' Louise be pushed before she's had enough and must leave that house? The movie's success hinges on Davis' ability to get the audience on board with Louise's internal struggle and, courtesy of her pursuit of truth in her work, she pulls that off exceptionally well. With Speak No Evil now playing in theaters nationwide, Davis joined me for her second Collider Ladies Night conversation to recap how she developed her approach to her work as an actor, and how she applied it to Louise in Speak No Evil to ensure you're with her every single step of the way throughout this extremely twisted vacation. Today he returns to the show after 12 years and we catch up on his life. He explains how he went into the panel with no information about the series and after hearing the passion the cast and crew have for their show, came away wanting to seek it out. Paul attended the "Breakout Award" ceremony and presentation to Devery Jacobs. Mike's second moment came at a "mystery guest" panel. Not every ATX season advertises the moments when celebrities show up and interact with fans - but those moments still seem to happen every year. This year they made it an official panel with guests Austin Nichols and Adrienne Palicki. Paul's final panel of the day and for the show was a SUITS retrospective with key members of the cast in attendance. Join us for a detailed and entertaining recap of Day 4 at the ATX TV Festival. Aaron is a veteran actor who has been in such acclaimed television shows as: Gotham, Mr. Robot, House of Cards, Rectify, Homicide: Life on the Streets, Halt and Catch Fire, The West Wing, Law & Order, and The Wire. In this episode, we chat about Aaron's odd route to becoming a commercial model, and how that led him to become an actor. Aaron shares a couple of stories about auditions, and so do I! Next we get into what Aaron's workshops entail, and why he does them. Naturally we cover his books: How to Become a Successful Commercial Model, and How to Become a Successful Actor and Model. He shares a fun story about auditioning for House of Cards an insane amount of times, before getting it. Finally, Aaron gives away some life changing advice he received from Tom Hank on the set of a recent film. Make sure you check out Aaron's website, books, and website!
