Les, Kurt and Jason are back to check in with each other because there's been a lot going on… and because Les and Kurt finally saw Demi Moore's face in her butt (because they saw The Substance). If the same thing happened to Kurt, he thinks a dermatologist may want Kurt to explain why it happened… but Jason thinks that would most certainly be the dermatologist's job. Then the guys dream cast that the perfect face talking from our butts on this should should be Blac Chyna, who thinks that Cardi B should be talking of HER butt when it comes to Offset. Then, the guys are ready to talk about the 2020 Netflix movie Holidate. Les picked the movie thinking it would be very much in the wheelhouse of this podcast, but it turns out that Holidate is a broad hard R romantic comedy in which we get to see Kristen Chenoweth play very much against type, a father daughter dance at a wedding done to a very inappropriate song choice, and some very unnecessary bowel movement sound effects. This movie did not (despite some confusion) feature Ryan Gosling OR Erma Bombeck. La Lohan is back with another Christmas rom com.
You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout I'm telling you why... Holidate is awful. Just bloody awful. We're up to our old tricks reviewing terrible Christmas films and I'm ashamed to say, we picked this one. It's crass, it's not funny, it's boring, the characters are horrible, there's no chemistry, it's all in a bloody shopping mall. Bon appetite! Oh and excuse the weird non sequitur about "lady buffets".Support the show
Emma & Katie try hard to discuss 2020's Holidate, but mostly talk about Chicago, malls, whatever "Top Golf" is, pretty much anything except this forgettable movie.
My guest today has done it all. He's gone from cinematography on small-budget indie films to $200 million-plus projects which is literally goals for many in this line of business. Director and cinematographer, Shane Hurlbut's thirty-plus experience and success as a storyteller is categorically innovative to the craft and inspiring for other filmmakers.Shane's latest film Love Hard is set for digital release via Netflix this November. This romantic comedy is about a young woman in Los Angeles who falls for a man on a dating app and travels to his East Coast hometown to surprise him for Christmas but discovers that she's been catfished. Her crush actually does live in the same town, and the guy who duped her offers to set them up if she pretends to be his girlfriend for the holidays. He's an esteemed member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the American Society of Cinematographers. The ASC recognized Shane's work very early on in his carrier from his film The Rat Pack and he was one of their youngest cinematographer nominees. Shane Co-founded the Hurlbut Academy alongside his wife and business partner, Lydia Hurlbut. Their platform offers professional online filmmaking education and mentoring materials, curated by other filmmakers. This interactive library has collaborated with filmmakers to develop about 50 Courses, 400+ Lessons, and 700+ hours of instruction videos. Some of the top projects he's worked on include Drumline, We Are Marshall, Terminator Salvation, Act Of Valor, and Game Of Thrones. The highly acclaimed HBO series, Game of Thrones was hailed for its spectacular cinematography. Outstanding, if you will. In 2012, Shane served as director of photography for their Game of Thrones: You Win or You Die - Inside the HBO Series that was an interview for major cast and crew members. Wherein, characters, families, kingdoms, and plots were explained with an in-depth look at season one. And what viewers could expect from season two. Some of Shane's work includes NetFlix's Rim of The World, Holidate, There Is No Place Like Home, Fathers, and Daughters, the pilot episode for SyFy's Resident Alien, and Disney+ original film Safety.Safety was inspired by the true story of Ray-Ray McElrathbey, the film follows a freshman football player for Clemson University who secretly raised his younger brother on campus after his home life became too unsteady. His passion for filmmaking goes back to his childhood. Like the cool kid he still is, Shane did morning announcements at our high school and DJ for a local radio station. As you can imagine, he started doing dances, proms, and homecoming across the local upstate New York area. He earned part of his education at a small community college where he fell in love with radio, TV production, and so forth. A scholarship to study film at Emerson College in Boston sealed the deal for Shane. In 2002, Shane's box office hit film, Drumline became a major splash. Nick Cannon stars as a young drummer who enters the fictional Atlanta A&T University and bumps heads with the leader of his new school's drum section. A fish-out-of-water comedy about a talented street drummer from Harlem who enrolls in a Southern university, expecting to lead its marching band's drumline to victory. He initially flounders in his new world, before realizing that it takes more than talent to reach the top. Lots of knowledge bombs from Shane in this conversation, You don't want to miss out. Enjoy my chat with Shane Hurlbut.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bulletproof-screenwriting-podcast--2881148/support.

Huang is an Emmy– and CDGA Award-winning costume designer based in Los Angeles. Known for her most recent work for “Station Eleven” and Apple TV's “The Shrink Next Door,” her other credits include “Holidate,” “Tall Girl,” and “Rim of the World” for Netflix. She also designed for FOX's “911,” NBC's “The Night Shift,” FX's “American Horror Story: Roanoke,” and MGM's “Get Shorty.” Her career began in the fashion editorial world and commercials. However, it was through scripted TV and film that she found her true calling, as it combines her love of art and storytelling. She relies heavily on historical reference, literature, and fine arts for her projects, but is greatly inspired by the study of people and cultures. Her north star, so to speak, is to draw inspiration from real life because life itself is always stranger than fiction.

It's beginning to look a little bit like Christmas. We kick off the holiday season with a movie that's all holidays, just not necessarily the ones we're talking about this month. It's the Netflix original Holidate, starring Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey. Join us as we talk about the whiplash-inducing vulgarity, the fact that this movie tries to pretend it invented platonic friendships, and Emma Roberts making a mess of herself and the bathroom. We also pick our Christmas Song fantasy teams to find out who has the best holiday playlist. Find us on Twitter and Instagram @TCTAMPod and on TikTok @theycalledthisamovie.Our theme music was written and performed by Dave Katusa. He can be found on Instagram @dkat_productions.
Join the Dicks as they take on the 2020 Netflix Christmasverse project, "Holidate". Is it a chick flick? Jump in to find out. Prepare to get your earballz wet!

Aussie actor LUKE BRACEY is establishing himself as a leading man defined by his versatile performances, innate curiosity, and personal charisma. Following the success of his lead role in last year's Netflix's original feature film HOLIDATE – which hit #1 for the streamer in 78 countries, was seen by over 68 million households, and ranks among their most-watched films of all time — Bracey has FOUR films coming out this year, spanning all different genres. It's a year that will showcase his versatility and broad audience appeal in the vein of a younger Viggo Mortenson. As you may know, his previous credits include – Hulu's Emmy-nominated limited series “Little Fires Everywhere” opposite Reese Witherspoon; Academy Award-nominated World War II drama HACKSAW RIDGE, alongside Andrew Garfield, for director Mel Gibson; the independent feature VIOLET with Olivia Munn & Justin Theroux; LUCKY DAY alongside Nina Dobrev; the big-budget Warner Bros. remake of the cult classic POINT BREAK; the film adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks' best-selling novel THE BEST OF ME; the action-thriller THE NOVEMBER MAN with Pierce Brosnan; Fox 2000's MONTE CARLO opposite Selena Gomez and Leighton Meester; and Paramount's mega-franchise GI JOE: RETALIATION.Pre-order my new book 'The Path of an Eagle: How To Overcome & Lead After Being Knocked Down'.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/thestorybox. The crew is back on to kick off your week with a little saucy sauce! This week, we check out the 2020 Netflix classic, Holidate.
My special guest for this episode is Erin Scott as we review the movie holidate. Listen in as you hear a different side of Pat as him and Erin review a rom com. A different kind of rom com then the normal ones. Enjoy!
Luke Bracey didn't dream about being an actor when he was a kid, he didn't study the craft, and on his first job, which came from his very first audition, he didn't even really know when he should start saying the lines. But with roles in films like “Point Break,” “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Holidate” and the soon-to-be-released “One True Loves,” he has built a career with his instinct, experience, and innate talent. Now he plays Jerry Shilling in the Baz Luhrmann blockbuster “Elvis.” He talks about what stopped him from getting overwhelmed by that “old school” big movie production, the value of energy management, the “privilege of pressure,” getting the “kick in the butt” he needed at the right moment, and bringing it all back to “if you believe it, we'll believe it.” Plus much more!
