En el 2010, después de 4 arrestos y una lucha con la adicción, Johnny vivió 6 meses bajo arresto domiciliario, temporada en la que encontró libertad y propósito en Dios y la música. A partir de entonces, su trasfondo cubano y su pasión por el arte le han permitido presentarse alrededor del mundo. En el 2016, participó en el programa The Voice de la cadena televisiva estadounidense NBC. Poco tiempo después, sus canciones «Nothing Ever Felt Better» y «Lifted High» fueron parte de la banda sonora de la película europea independiente, «The Lachance Kids». Asimismo, ha aparecido en programas televisivos como TBN, NBC, ABC, Telemundo, Latin GRAMMY®, NASCAR, Jingle Ball, los premios AMA, The Voice y American Idol. Además, ha trabajado como vocalista de fondo de Demi Lovato y ha compartido tarima con Tye Tribbett, Erica Campbell, Ricky Martin, Kenny Lattimore, Kim Burrell y Marcos Witt. Luego del exitoso lanzamiento de su sencillo «Cambiado» y su versión acústica, Johnny Rez colabora con el intérprete de música urbana cristiana, Manny Montes, en el nuevo tema «Tu Gracia Fue». La gracia inexplicable e inmerecida de Dios es la inspiración de esta canción, que resalta la bondad de Dios y cómo nos levanta en los peores momentos sin pedir nada a cambio. La melodía contagiosa y cadencia rítmica de esta canción, compuesta por Johnny y Josh Davis y producida por Aaron y Matt Barbosa, forman el complemento perfecto con la letra (también escrita por Johnny). «Las primeras frases que me vinieron a la mente fueron recuerdos de mi pasado, cuando más solo me sentía, en un lugar oscuro y difícil», dice el cantautor de raíces cubanas, que ha compartido su testimonio de superación a su adicción a las drogas. «Lo que más recordaba era cómo Dios usó esa temporada desafiante para revelarme Su presencia y bondad. Llegué a conocerlo en una luz real y debido al dolor que estaba viviendo, pude verlo y sentirlo con mayor claridad. Fue solo Su gracia la que hizo posible mi libertad y me ayudó a superarlo todo». Queriendo hacer algo diferente y especial con esta canción, Johnny y su equipo decidieron que una colaboración con un artista urbano sería el próximo paso para elevar su música. Es entonces que se conecta con el rapero puertorriqueño, Manny Montes, cuya colaboración realmente «solidificó el sonido y el mensaje que estábamos buscando, y estoy completamente honrado de tenerlo en la pista. ¡No habría sido lo mismo sin él!», compartió Johnny. Más allá de la música, Johnny siente una responsabilidad civil con la comunidad y, por esto, ha decidido colaborar junto a OneShare Health, un ministerio cristiano de cuidado de salud (HCSM) localizado en Texas, EE.UU.. Con esta alianza, Johnny promoverá la concienciación de tales ministerios y la importancia de la fe, comunidad y el apoyo mutuo en momentos de necesidad. Manny Montez used to watch planes fly overhead from his childhood home in Cuba, dreaming of some day becoming a pilot. When he was 13 his family immigrated to the United States with four suitcases and $50 cash, not speaking a word of English. Ten years later Manny had learned English, become a U.S. citizen, and was a pilot in the Air Force, flying combat missions in Vietnam as a Forward Air Controller (FAC) in an OV-10. Following Vietnam he instructed in the supersonic T-38, then left the service for an airline career at American Airlines. At the same time, he flew O-2A and F-100 aircraft in the Air National Guard. During a downturn when pilots were being furloughed, Manny volunteered to take a leave of absence and flew a private B-727 based in Saudi Arabia, operating all over the world. After his return to American, he rose to B777 Captain. After age-60 retirement, Manny continued to fly and instruct in simulators, and currently flies the Emb-300 as a contract pilot.
