On April 12, 1966, a family picnic in America's first national park turned into one of the most baffling missing persons cases in American history. Eight-year-old Dennis Johnson was visiting Yellowstone with his parents William and Betty and his three sisters when his seven-year-old sister Mary wandered off.Dennis and his father split up to search for her. William found Mary quickly, but when he returned to the Cascade Picnic Area, Dennis had vanished without a trace. What followed was one of the most intensive search operations in Yellowstone's history – spanning 100 square miles, employing helicopters, bloodhounds, and dozens of searchers. Despite three weeks of exhaustive efforts costing over $14,000 (equivalent to more than $100,000 today), not a single clue was found. No footprints. No clothing. No evidence whatsoever.Fifty-eight years later, Dennis Johnson remains missing, his fate unknown. In This EpisodeThe detailed timeline of April 12, 1966, and how a moment's separation led to decades of mysteryWhy the search for Dennis was particularly challenging, and the technical aspects of a 1960s-era wilderness searchThe baffling behavior of bloodhounds that couldn't pick up any scent trailFive leading theories of what might have happened to Dennis, and why none can fully explain his complete disappearanceHow the Johnson family turned to a psychic in their desperate search for answersWhat makes wilderness disappearances unique, and the concept of "ambiguous loss"The statistical context: how rare cases like Dennis's are compared to millions of safe Yellowstone visitsHow the case has informed modern search and rescue techniques and park safety protocols

ABOUT THE GUEST:

Ross asks for Peter's reaction to the Luka Doncic/Anthony Davis trade and how none of the newsbreakers who cover the league had any clue it was happening. 10:32 ... Considering the principals in the deal, Peter shares his thoughts on some of the other deals that were historic but he feels than none were ever bigger than this one. 12:54 ... Peter tells why Dallas MAY have traded Luka and tells a story about how former Mavs coach Rick Carlisle left the Mavs because he did not like coaching Luka. 16:13 ... Why did the Mavericks want the often injured Anthony Davis? 17:15 ... The Lakers needed a big man, so naturally they traded their Hall of Fame big man. 20:12 ... Peter reacts to DeAaron Fox going to San Antonio and why he liked Fox prior to this season but has soured on him this year. 24:15 ... Bruce makes a joke about how the players for Archbishop Molloy H.S. in Queens (Peter's alma mater) were big time ballers and he joked how he was ahead of his time as a high school player. 24:53 ... Bruce takes a shot at Zach LaVine, who was traded from the Bulls to the Kings and how Sacramento's GM seems clueless. Peter goes on to discuss Billy Donovan, his first NBA interview that was done for SportsChannel at Hofstra University where Bruce also worked. 27:26 ... World B initiates a discussion of the top players of all time ... Peter takes exception to the suggestion that MJ and LeBron are the two best ever. Their relationship was very close and he tells the story of how Kobe got his unusual first name. 44:44 ... Ross asks about the 65 game rule for postseason awards and Peter is in favor of it. Peter is NOT in favor of Adam Silver's idea for 10 minute quarters. 46:47 ... Bruce asks about the new All-Star game format and how the event has become unwatchable. Peter thinks the new tournament format may help make it more appealing. He is not impressed with the new women's 3 on 3 league but transitions into a story about how K.C. Jones allowed him to work out with the Celtics teams of the 1980s and play full-court 4 on 4. 50:12 ... World B asks Peter who his favorite interview subject was ... and it was Larry Bird. Of course, there's a couple of good Bird stories there! And there's a great story about how Bird signed a photo for Peter's son as a birthday gift. Peter truly misses being around Larry. 53:17 ... Peter shares some Bill Walton stories and how he helped Bill get into TV at NBC. We exchanged some Walton stories. 55:10 ... Peter predicts OKC will win it all this year ... he praises Isaiah Hartenstein of the Thunder and can't believe how good he has become. 1:00:06 ... Ross thanks peter and says goodbye TRT 1:00:51

For the past few decades, senior housing co-operatives have become an appealing option for middle-income people who are aging but don't need the 24/7 care of a nursing home. The idea for senior-specific housing co-ops originated right here in Minnesota. The state holds 60 percent of senior co-ops in the country. Dennis Johnson, president of Cooperative Housing Resources in Shoreview, joined Minnesota Now to share how the idea came about and what it looks like now.

How can all the Bible be all about Jesus when His name doesn't explicitly appear till the New Testament? From Genesis to Leviticus to Esther, it may be hard to see Jesus on the surface of every page, but he's there—in profound and subtle ways. Dr. Dennis Johnson is a scholar and one of the founding faculty members of Westminster Seminary in California. Today, he joins David Wollen to discuss a christocentric approach to reading and studying God's Word. If you are new to this way of reading the Bible, we encourage you to be patient. It may take some time to learn to see Jesus on every page, but it's important and worth the effort. Because this is not merely a hermeneutical trick of smoke and mirrors ... it's the way Jesus himself taught his disciples to study and teach the Scriptures.

Dennis Johnson was one of the most underrated players in the NBA. The man was a 9-time All-Defensive Player, a 5-time All-Star, and a starter on 3 NBA championship teams. What's unique is that he was neither a starter in high school nor recruited to any colleges. It's an all-too-familiar tale among the ranks of senior finance executives: A private equity firm acquires a company, reshuffles the finance team, and reserves the top finance spot for one of its own portfolio CFOs. At Qlik, though, this story had a less familiar ending—or at least one that did not include a portfolio CFO. Instead, back in 2016, when Thoma Bravo acquired King of Prussia, Pennsylvania's Qlik, a seasoned veteran of the latter's own finance team—Dennis Johnson—entered the CFO office. For Johnson, there's little question that his appointment validated the 8 career years that he had already invested with the company, a period during which he had sought to routinely contribute to the company's growth and ongoing strategic transformation. It turns out that his senior finance roles—and in particular his involvement in the transition to a subscription-based model—had demonstrated his strategic vision and capacity for managing change effectively and thus opened a new door. Episode Highlights:04:50- Once I have whatever popped into my head, whether it was a melody or a groove, or even just like part of a bridge, I'll sit down at my computer in front of my piano and do a sketch of it first. And then I'll do a reference flute melody on it or a vocal melody, and just keep adding to it, keep tweaking, keep messing around with it. And then once it's like a full song, like a solid song, I'll bring it to my husband, Dennis Johnson, and he will produce the song. 10:59 - I don't know anybody who's like stellar at it. They say that there's no such thing as multitasking. It's just working on a whole lot of things in a mediocre fashion. But I just try to schedule myself, pace myself, try very hard not to burn out, and then give myself some grace when things aren't going according to plan.34:30 - I am grateful and I take none of it for granted because it's hard out here. It's hard. Even once you get on the charts, the work does not end. That is like one small aspect of the career and the marketing, and everything else that goes along with it. I just appreciate every little bit of success that I can get in my hands. ContactFresh Coast Jazz FestivalRagan WhitesideLinkedInFacebookInstagram

Episode Synopsis:I begin this episode with a personal testimony.I was born and raised a dispensationalist. Our family owned a Christian bookstore. The first Christian book I picked out and read on my own was Hal Lindsey's The Late Great Planet Earth. Years later, I was challenged by one of our delivery men about the books we were selling–all the dispensationalist best sellers. He said he was “Reformed.” I thought he meant that he had gone to “reform school” or was on work release from prison. The questions he put to me bounced off like BB's against a Battleship. Dispensationalism was biblical. How could anyone doubt that? But those BB's actually penetrated my embarrassingly thin armor. Eventually, I became a very reluctant Calvinist and then I started re-thinking my eschatology. After university and a year at the Simon Greenleaf School of Law (which was founded by John Warwick Montgomery, the faculty included Walter Martin, and Rod Rosenbladt, and is now the Trinity Law School in Santa Ana), I was steadily moving away from my doctrinal roots (Arminian and dispensational). I found that the Reformation views on law and gospel, the five solas, and the end times, were absolutely compelling because they were thoroughly biblical. To my surprise Drs. Montgomery and Rosenbladt suggested a career change–seminary, specifically the new seminary in Escondido (90 miles to the South), Westminster Seminary California. In the Acts and Paul class taught by Dennis Johnson, I first encountered what I came to know as the two-age model–terms I was familiar with from reading the New Testament but never thought much about–“this age” and “the age to come.” After reading Herman Ridderbos and Geerhardus Vos on Paul, I realized how serious a challenge the two-model was to my premillennial eschatology (I had pretty much given up on most of my dispensationalism by then, although I still thought like one). Driving home after Dr. Johnson's class, I had an “ah-ha moment.” “I can't be premillennial any more.” The two-age model makes premillennialism (in all its forms) a biblical impossibility. I dug in my heels and fought the inevitable. But here I am far down the road, presenting and defending the two-age model. If you've not heard this before, you are in for a real surprise. This is a game changer in terms of your view of the end times. For show notes and other recommended materials located at the Riddleblog as mentioned during the Blessed Hope Podcast, click here: https://www.kimriddlebarger.com/
Dan Wetzel and SI's Pat Forde & Ross Dellenger go through the recent firing of Alabama baseball coach Brad Bohannon after his name was linked to a possible bet placed on an Alabama game. The drama in Tuscaloosa continues in 2023, with the latest theatrics being a sports betting scandal. A man who placed a large wager in Cincinnati on an Alabama vs. LSU baseball game has been allegedly linked to the now former head coach Bohannon. The fact that this scandal is coming out of Alabama, which has been no stranger to public scrutiny this year, only adds fuel to the fire.Later, Ross provides an update on the Pac-12's pursuit of expansion in the face of the upcoming loss of UCLA and USC, as well as their negotiations in trying to secure a new television broadcast deal. After much speculation that the Pac-12 would head to an online streamer, ESPN has kept negotiations open with the conference and is not shutting the door. After producing solid ratings numbers for a notoriously late time slot, the Pac-12 is hoping to keep pace alongside the other conferences that have solidified their own lucrative TV deals. With the Kentucky Derby this weekend, Pat gives his annual list of bad horse names.
