The Underground Taxi by Maurice Hall BuchananA taxi driver named Harry Johnson, is about to be forced into bankruptcy when a beautiful mysterious African woman offers him a substantial amount of money to drive her from Miami to Boston. He accepts her offer only to find that two-gun wielding Africa men, members of Idi Amin notorious SRB were pursuing her, along with the police, FBI, and a private investigator. To Harry's dismay, he found that he got more than what he bargained for.As an author, Maurice published a screenplay named Amos and Red Deer and entered it in several contests. He wrote his first book The Underground Taxi which is published by Gotham Books. He was married for 26 years raising three children, all who are now adults. As a child Maurice used to play with toys making up stories as he played along. He later drew comic books making up storylines and characters. When in high school his classroom was given an assignment of writing a play as a project. He jumped at the opportunity and wrote a play named Trapped In A Corner. The teacher loved it and gave him three A's. He printed copies and had the play performed in class. Born into a Jamaican family, hard work was always stressed in the household, and writing was just something to do as a hobby. He wrote so many stories that a friend advised him that he should publish them. He heeded his advice and published his first screenplay, Amos And The Red Deer. He is about to publish Three Spades And A Joker, Straight In The Army, and The Reluctant Informer. He is now residing in Boca Raton, Florida with his pet dog Ralphie.https://www.amazon.com/Underground-Taxi-Maurice-Hall-Buchanan/dp/B0C9L9YZ48/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1S10XZ9XQ3U6K&keywords=maurice+buchanan+the+underground+taxi&qid=1690418987&s=books&sprefix=maurice+buchanan+the+underground+taxi%2Cstripbooks-intl-ship%2C300&sr=1-1https://booksbymauricebuchanan.com/http://www.

In this episode, I talk about James Ivory's 1987 film, "Maurice." It's based on the novel of the same name by E.M. Forster. It's set in 1910 and tells the story of Maurice Hall, a young man who attends Cambridge University and falls in love with Clive Durham. The film follows them over several years, tracing the turmoil of their relationship. Clive eventually marries, and Maurice finds love with Alec Scudder, a man who works on Clive's estate. Made and released in the 1980s, at the height of the AIDS epidemic, "Maurice" is a film that celebrates and affirms queer love. It features brilliant performances by James Wilby, Hugh Grant, and Rupert Graves, who all were deeply committed to their roles. For this episode, I talk about E.M. Forster, Merchant Ivory Productions, the filming of "Maurice," and I explain why this dreamy and romantic film continues to enchant me.
