The Sports Experience Podcast with Chris Quinn and Dominic DiTolla
Episode 286 of “The Sports Experience Podcast” is here & we're continuing our block on some of the NFL's best postseason games of all time.In this episode we're discussing the 1981 AFC Divisional Playoff game between the Miami Dolphins and the San Diego Chargers. In a clash of styles, these two teams lived up to the hype. The “Air Coryell” Chargers sped out to a 24-0 lead in the first quarter with some incredible plays on offense & special teams.Don Shula's Dolphins eventually hit their stride when they inserted backup quarterback Don Strock, and they only found themselves down 24-17 at Halftime after a “Hook & Lateral” play at the end of the first half led to a touchdown by Tony Nathan. On a hot & muggy evening in Miami, both teams battled back and forth in the second half. The Dolphins almost won the game in regulation until Dan Fouts threw a touchdown pass to James Brooks late in the fourth quarter.Miami responded when they set up Uwe von Schamann for a field goal attempt to clinch the game on the final play, but Kellen Winslow blocked the game-winning field goal attempt to force OT.During the marathon extra period, both San Diego and Miami could not convert field goal attempts. However, Fouts, Charlie Joiner, Wes Chandler and Winslow helped the Chargers set up a 29 yard field goal attempt for Rolf Benirscke towards the end of OT. Benirscke drilled the kick & San Diego won what many consider to be the greatest postseason game in NFL history.Connect with us on Instagram!Chris Quinn: @cquinncomedyDominic DiTolla: @ditolladominicProducer: @ty_englestudioInstagram: @thesportsexperiencepodcastIf you enjoy this podcast, please help support us @:https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-experience-pod/support#sportspodcast#comedypodcast#miamidolphins#sandiegochargers

What up world it's your boy E coming at you from the Nattering With E studios. After a brief break to battle off a bout with laryngitis, we are back with our next NFL chapter of Nattering E Trades! Earlier this week, the NBA not the NFL had one of the most intriguing trades we'll probably go back and look at in a couple of years from now. No active players were traded between the Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz, only draft picks. The Jazz traded three first-round draft picks this year, the 2027 and 2029 drafts for Phoenix's unprotected 2031 first-round pick. The deal wasn't unprecedented but signaled to the rest of the league that the Suns are probably looking to pull off a bigger deal later. So you might wonder, what does this have to do with the NFL? Well, I'm glad you asked, as today in part 1 of a 6 part series we'll be looking at the three best trades to involve draft picks in the NFL. In three weeks we'll be looking at the three worst draft pick-related trades in NFL History. TOP 3 TRADES Involving Draft Picks The Best: Number 3 Eli for Philip 3. The year is 2004 and after having bad seasons in 2003, the New York Giants and San Diego Chargers pull off a trade that essentially allows each to acquire picks that'll eventually turn out to be two hall of fame caliber quarterbacks. The San Diego Chargers had the first overall pick in the 2004 draft and took Mississippi quarterback Eli Manning the younger brother of Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos great Peyton Manning. Going into the draft it was well known that Eli had no intention of playing in San Diego, despite them owning the first overall draft choice. Enter the New York Giants. Finishing with the fourth worst record in the NFL in 2003 and thus the fourth overall selection in 2004, the Giants took NC State quarterback Philip Rivers fourth overall. They then would broker a deal with the Chargers, to send the aforementioned Rivers along with a third round selection in 2004 and first and fifth round picks in 2005 to the Chargers for the disgruntled Eli Manning. While the trade is mostly seen as a success for the Giants, who received Manning who would lead them to two Super Bowls and win two MVP awards, the Chargers did pretty well themselves. Rivers is also considered a hall-of-fame quarterback despite never making it to the Super Bowl, he often led the league in passing yards and touchdowns. The Chargers also were able to draft kicker Nate Kaeding with the third-round selection in 2004, and the first-round pick in 2005 got them linebacker Shawne Merriman to bolster the Chargers defense for most of his six seasons. He also led the league in quarterback sacks in his first three seasons with 39.5 and was the defensive rookie of the year.
Heading into the 1994 season, the San Diego Chargers were coming off of an 8-8 season under second year head coach Bobby Ross. There was little to be expected from the team from southern California. After all, the Chargers did lose their top running back and receiver from the season before on offense and their best defensive back to retirement. Yet with a stunning rally against the rival Denver Broncos in the opening game of the regular season, the San Diego Chargers began the season 6-0 and eventually winning and AFC West title after sweeping the season series against the Kansas City Chiefs led by the great Joe Montana who experts predicted were going the win the division in 1994 In this episode of the podcast, we will go back 30 Years to not only celebrate one of the best seasons in Chargers' history, but one of the most unexpected postseason runs in NFL history. Later in the show, host Dana Auguster would explain his fandom of then San Diego Chargers despite the fact of growing up in south Louisiana. The NFL Season is moving along and so are we. In this episode of the NFL Historical Matchups for Week 11, we have four games that we are highlighting. The first one may be one of the most famous and the most important games in NFL History. It may not have been a classic as for as a close game or having a fantastic finish, but Super Bowl III between the Baltimore Colts and the New York Jets helped create the current NFL.It was more than the biggest upset in Super Bowl history, it added legitimacy to the upstart American Football League as the merger between the AFL and NFL was on the horizon. The second game was the 1981 AFC Championship game between the San Diego Chargers and the Cincinnati Bengals. The game played in conditions that were better suited for the Iditarod Sled dog race in Alaska, saw the Bengals advance to their first Super Bowl by winning the game known as the "Freezer Bowl".The third game we are remembering was referenced in a Sports Illustrated article that previewed the game at the time as Super Bowl 8 1/2 .But after it was over, the game had earned another name that has lived on to this day. The 1974 AFC Divisional playoff game between the Miami Dolphins and the Oakland Raiders is remembered as the "Sea of Hands Game". Rounding out our games that we are looking back on is the 1966 AFL Championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills. The Bills were looking to win their third consecutive AFL Championship game but more importantly play in the inaugural Super Bowl. But it would be the Chiefs that would advance to the first Super Bowl in a muddy, cold day at the stadium known as the Rockpile. Have you ever wondered why some salespeople consistently outperform others, even those who, on the surface, appear equally talented? High performance is not just about natural ability - it's also about the intensity and quality of preparation. Chances are, these top sales professionals are spending more time and energy preparing for their meetings than their peers. In this Snippet, Dan sits down with Nick Hardwick, former Center for the San Diego Chargers, to explore the parallels between preparing for a high-stakes football game and preparing for crucial sales meetings. They'll dive deep into why talent alone isn't enough to succeed in the long run, how to build systems that position you for greater success over time, and preparing for the unexpected so you can stay flexible when the game (or sales conversation) changes. Nick's insights from the world of professional football will challenge you to rethink your approach to sales preparation and give you practical strategies to elevate your game. Ready to transform your sales preparation and performance? Listen to this snippet, and then scroll back to Episode 10, Preparing to Win with NFL's Nick Hardwick, to hear the full conversation on the power of preparation in high-stakes situations.

Manning is one of the most beloved players in Giants history after leading Big Blue to two Super Bowl titles, both against Tom Brady and the Patriots. However, Eli wasn't drafted by the Giants. Instead he was taken - against his wishes - by the San Diego Chargers and traded to the Giants for Philip Rivers and a pick. But what would've happened had Manning agreed to play for the Chargers? Would he have led the long-suffering Chargers to the promised land? Who would the Giants have taken instead with the fourth pick? Where would Rivers have ended up playing? And why does this all affect [Joaquin] Phoenix? Find out on Alternate Routes.Listen to Alternate Routes on the Wondery App or wherever you get your podcasts. Only problem is, he can't stop flexing his muscles in the mirror, long enough to accomplish that. Rumors (and suspensions) because of "banned substances" that may have made him into The Hulk. He also drives while on GHB & maybe other drugs, and is a little loose with his fists, around women!Stare at your physique in a mirror, tell everyone that your "hygiene is unbelievable", and go from a future hall of famer, to a "what could have been" in a mere 5 years with David Boston!!Check us out, every Tuesday! We will continue to bring you the biggest idiots in sports history!!
