In this episode, I talk to blogger, writer, and host of the Your BFF Podcast Mel Stephens. Heads up that Mel's story is very intense – it includes her struggles with depression and anxiety, a chronic illness diagnosis, divorce at a young age, issues with support from her family, and a suicide attempt. There is so much valuable insight in her honesty, vulnerability, and perspective of life. We discuss: How we tend to hide parts of ourselves or not fully show up in relationships out of fear of how our true selves would be received or feeling like we are wrong in some way How the support we crave from the people in our lives can take many different forms. How their can be unintended consequences from even the best of intentions. How we look for from others what we really need to give or do for ourselves – for example, for Mel it was to be saved and for me it was to be chosen. How it is a difficult process to move from finding happiness, fulfillment and identity in the external to realizing it only exists internally. And this week, we delve into the mysterious photo that’s re-opened the Earhart cold case and has us all wondering where she went. Our guest Mel Stephens - of the poignant podcast Fear Based Life - walks us through the events of the crash, and the possibilities for what might have happened. Along the way, we also talk drones, military goof-ups, and the fact that Ameelz was the dopest person of the whole 30’s. Miss you girl.
Mel considers the value of connecting with the audience.
Mel records a special solo episode and shares her own fears about her upcoming live show, her health, and what’s coming next.
Fear. It's something we all deal with in varying degrees almost every day of our lives. Whether it's the fear of going to the dentist, or the fear of rejection or the fear of death all of us know what it's like to be afraid. My guest this week, Mel Stephens, is no stranger to fear herself. In fact, I found out about Mel through her excellent podcast, Fear Based Life, where each episode she explores her own and her guests fears. Mel is an expert at sharing her own vulnerability in a way that helps people. And frankly, people who do that are my favorite type of people. In our discussion this week we speak about the current political climate, our own deep-seeded fears and Mel's struggle with the concept of death.
