Send us Fan MailEPISODE DESCRIPTION - Ready to publishRhode Islanders are sending a blunt message: the healthcare system is not just expensive, it's forcing people to delay care, skip tests, and rethink whether treatment is even worth it. University of Rhode Island sociologist Julie Keller unpacks the new survey data exposing how deep the affordability crisis really goes - and why the numbers are more alarming than the anecdotes. The findings go beyond general frustration. 29% of respondents say they delayed medical care in the last year because of cost, and among those postponing recommended care, cost is the biggest reason. Keller explains why the wording of these questions matters, how the survey captures the difference between general concern and real-world barriers, and why that gap is so consequential for health outcomes and medical debt.We also break down the broader public sentiment shaping Rhode Island right now: 72% worry about healthcare costs 72% also worry about housing costs 93% trust their own doctor Trust drops sharply for institutions like the CDC, FDA, Rhode Island state officials, RFK Jr., and Trump 49% say they use AI for health information, raising new questions about how people search for care and advice Keller also shares what Rhode Islanders say they would support to fix the system, including a URI medical school, loan forgiveness for doctors who stay in the state, and higher Medicaid reimbursements. If you're trying to understand why healthcare keeps rising to the top of Rhode Island's political agenda, or what kinds of solutions actually have public support, this episode gives you the clearest picture yet.Essential listening if you care about healthcare costs, access to care, policy reform, or the real state of public opinion in Rhode Island right now.Support the showFollow Bill on Instagram and YouTube

Nine more pharmaceutical giants join the fold, bringing the total to 26 companies covering 90% of the domestic drug market, and Trump calls it the biggest medical announcement of his presidency, maybe of any presidency. RFK Jr., Dr. Oz, and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick each take turns explaining how "Most Favored Nation" pricing flips America from paying the highest drug prices in the world to the lowest, with projected savings north of $600 billion. A parade of pharma CEOs step up to announce Medicaid discounts, billions in U.S. manufacturing investment, and donations to the national drug stockpile, while GLP-1 weight loss drugs and IVF medications get singled out for dramatic price cuts. The Q&A afterward wanders well past pharmaceuticals, into Iran's military status, a massive Venezuela oil deal, interest rate frustrations, and China's upcoming state visit. Dense, numbers heavy, and genuinely wide ranging, this one covers a lot of ground fast.

Two mothers. Five children. One diagnosis now stands between a crime and a courtroom. A Bronx judge just found Dimone Fleming not responsible for stabbing her 3-year-old and 11-month-old sons in a family shelter. In Massachusetts, a jury is deciding whether Lindsay Clancy was too sick to be guilty after she strangled 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan. Pat puts both cases on the table and asks the question a lot of people only whisper: Why are moms no longer connecting with their kids? Nobody seriously pretends postpartum psychosis is fake. The fight is what comes after — responsibility, culture, family, and whether a country that medicalizes every collapse still knows how to protect children. Pat also covered: Gov. Josh Shapiro announced measles deaths the county coroner says didn't happen Can you name Trump's top 25 achievements without looking them up? Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) almost got hit by a train at his own train-safety presser Looksmaxxing just turned into skipping showers and calling it pheromone-maxxing The Left turned America into the new safe haven for political Islam Is postpartum psychosis a real emergency, or has it become a courtroom shield? We talk to Astra Taylor and Aaron Regunberg about their recent New Republic article about MAGA's embrace of animal rights—which, like RFK Jr. and "Make America Healthy Again," has allowed them to make inroads with constituencies typically associated with the left. What actually is the Trumpist right's vision of animal rights, and how does it differ from the left's? What might the matter reveal about the curious, combustible politics of this moment? And what should the left learn from this, not just when it comes to animal rights but the opportunities they seem to keep giving conservatives to offer compelling alternatives to the left on key issues? We take up these questions and more. Sources: Astra Taylor & Aaron Regunberg, "How MAGA Stole Animal Rights from the Left," New Republic, Aug 17, 2026 — "Is Animal Rights the Next MAHA?" Neoborn Caveman is back with the untamed, unedited live radio show — marble-mouthed, vivid, nothing planned. He starts on America founded as a republic by the people for the people, and on how little of the official story still stands. From there NC looks at a UK car park where cash is banned, only the app still counts, and the fine is what you get for showing up with money and a working phone — sovereignty taken one payment at a time. After that Neoborn turns to Chinese cabbage dipped in formaldehyde and sold in Australia, but fear not, he offers a solution anyone can do to stay healthier. Later he takes the Havasupai trail in Arizona, a mother slashed after asking for directions. NC then investigates Network for Hope in Kentucky, the organ outfit HHS began decertifying under RFK Jr. after procurement started while patients still showed signs of life. He closes on the 1980s Pizza Hut revival and the real reasons people are driving back to those rooms, and finally on schools that spent three trillion and left three in ten proficient, and on heaven starting from within.Music guests: Big Sexy, Carlyle, Inoxidables, Van Hechter 00:00:00 On This Day Today - (no freedom yet)00:06:06 Big Sexy: Hiding in Romeo00:09:46 Fined for Not Having the App00:18:28 Carlyle: Without the Weed00:21:51 Formaldehyde Cabbage and Eating Where You Live00:30:14 Inoxidables: Sirena00:33:59 Wash Your Fruit and Veggies: Pesticides, Glyphosate, and Bayer00:44:00 Neoborn Caveman: Counterfeit Love00:46:28 A Hike, a Knife, Tolerating Crime00:56:08 Van Hechter: Boy Problems01:00:20 Organ Harvesting Comes Home: Network for Hope01:06:57 Big Sexy: This City Knows My Name01:10:17 Retro Pizza Hut, Hollowed-Out Schools, and Heaven Within01:23:05 Neoborn Caveman: Final ShowKey TakeawaysAmerica was founded as a republic by the people for the people. A new personalised vaccine given in combination with a drug has stopped skin cancer returning in patients during a trial, representing a potentially watershed moment in cancer treatment. Scientists used mRNA technology, which was used for some Covid-19 vaccines. But that technology - and vaccines more generally - have become increasingly controversial in the United States since the Covid-19 pandemic. The Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, is a vaccine sceptic. In August 2025 cancelled $500m (£376m) in funding for mRNA vaccine research. The move impacted 22 projects being led by major pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer and Moderna, for vaccines against bird flu and other viruses, according to Kennedy's department. We speak to Tom Whipple, host of the BBC's Inside Science programme, about the science of this new vaccine. And we ask how funding cuts for vaccine research could impact health outcomes not just for Americans, but for the world. For more episodes, just search 'The Global Story' wherever you get your BBC Podcasts.

And what has made the legacy of America's political dynasty so famous, divisive and enduring? The Kennedys are often described as the closest thing the United States has to a royal family, with fiercely competitive and divisive figures taking up space in American political and public life for generations.Even now, the influence of the Kennedy family continues to persist with RFK Junior, who is serving as the U.S. secretary of health and human services. There have been Kennedys who thrived with fame and power, and those who struggled greatly with that burden, with tragic consequences. The sunniest images of this famous family come from when they gathered at their rambling seaside compound in Cape Cod in the summers. One particular summer, in 1944, changed everything for the Kennedy clan, according to historian Leigh Straw, who is an internationally recognised expert on the Kennedy family and their legacy. It was the final year of World War Two—Jack, the future president, had become a war hero but his health was ailing; his brothers Bobby and Teddy were there, but their eldest brother Joe Junior was in England, preparing to embark on his final wartime mission. Their sister Rosemary was out of the picture altogether, hidden away from public and never spoken of.This was the year, Leigh says, when personal tragedies and public heroics began to shape the Kennedy legacy. The Kennedys at Cape Cod, 1944: The Summer That Changed Everything is published by Bloomsbury. This episode of Conversations was produced by Meggiei Morris. Jordan and Nate dig into what they call a genuine media scandal this week: two supposedly measles related deaths in Pennsylvania that the county coroner and commissioner themselves say never happened, complete with a NBC infant death story that quietly admits the actual cause was a ruptured spleen. They connect the dots to what they believe is a deliberate push to pressure Amish communities in Pennsylvania and New York into vaccinating, tying it to a related Supreme Court bound legal fight over religious exemptions. From there it is a rundown of astroturfed food recall panic accounts, RFK Jr's newly signed temporary beef import deal and what it means for American ranchers, and a genuinely nostalgic tangent about the worst school lunches either of them ever ate. The show wraps with some real optimism: new fertilizer plants breaking ground and early signs of a farming shift away from glyphosate.

And we ask how funding cuts for vaccine research could impact health outcomes not just for Americans, but for the world.Producers: Lucy Pawle and Sam ChantarasakDigital producer: Sam GruetMix: Travis EvansEditor: James ShieldSenior news editor: China CollinsPhoto: US Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Have you ever swam in the Willamette? Kayaked? Tiki toured? There are tons of opportunities to get in the river, yet lots of locals still avoid the water because of its (outdated) reputation of being polluted. The river is now safe and swimmable thanks to decades of work from advocates, journalists, and politicians to restore the ecosystem and cleanliness, and City Cast Portland host Claudia Meza joins Your City Could Be Better to talk about all the ways the Willamette can now be your urban playground. How often are you out in nature in Nashville? It's not always easy to know which natural resources are clean and safe to use in an urban setting, and city rivers get a particularly bad rap. It's true that cities have had eras of sewage mishandling and high boat traffic — but many have also cleaned up their act, through the tireless work of local advocates and politicians. Portland, OR, is one of those cities, and City Cast Portland host Claudia Meza joins this episode of Your City Could Be Better to debunk the assumptions and fears about her city's river, the Willamette. Original Air Date: April 9th, 2026 During the Pentagon press briefing alongside Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described the two-week ceasefire with Iran as the result of a decisive U.S. military campaign. He stated, “Operation Epic Fury was a historic and overwhelming victory on the battlefield — a capital-V military victory,” claiming it decimated Iran's missile program, navy, and defense industry, rendering its military “combat-ineffective for years to come.” Hegseth added that “Iran begged for this ceasefire, and we all know it,” asserting the regime was “out of options and out of time.” He emphasized that U.S. forces are “not going anywhere,” saying “we'll be hanging around” in the region to monitor compliance, ensure that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon, and remain “prepared to defend, prepared to go on offense,” and “restart at a moment's notice” if the truce fails. Hegseth noted that “it takes time sometimes for ceasefires to take hold” and framed the pause as giving “a chance at real peace and a real deal,” while praising President Trump for choosing “mercy” instead of further crippling Iran's economy.
