Mister Fred Rogers Quote "The only thing that evil can't stand is forgiveness. That, of course, includes self and others” Evil is anything that harms the human being or that is not good for the human being. The opposite of evil is love and an important element of love is forgiveness. Learning to forgive oneself and others is a healthy habit that leads to deeper Serenity. The art of forgiving and accepting needs to be practiced so that one can make progress leading to a habit that pays dividends. Forgiveness and acceptance does not mean calling evil good. Instead, forgiving and accepting heals oneself from the poison of resentment, bitterness and being stuck in the past. Resentment can block us from peace and Serenity. Our ego truly does edge God or goodness out. Practicing forgiveness and acceptance in all things frees one from many of the traps of the ego and the critical judgmental mind that can prevent us from progressive peace and healing. Dear God or Higher Power, please help me to practice acceptance and forgiveness with myself and others and enjoy the peace and interior freedom it brings me. #td #meditation #contemplation #silence #stillness #bestill #relax #calm #joy #god #prayer #mindfulness #catholic #christian #spiritual #spirituality #love #unconditional #goodness #kindness #gentle #honesty #present #presentmolment #be #open #openminded #caring #sharing #union #communion #transformation #quote #podcast #highlight #summary #depth #courage #fear #faith #bottom #star #bitcoin #crypto #business #enterprise #mindset #positive #motivation #richardrohr #ghandi #martinlutherking #mlk #BLM #peace #innerchild #lovingparent #ACA #CODA #alanon #12steps #twelvesteps #AA #addiction #sobriety #recovery #fredrogers #mrrogers #neighbor #community #music #life #lessons #wisdom #thomaskeating #thomasmerton #jesus #mary

This is our third Note on (Mister) Fred Rogers’ books. I read all three over the course of a week after falling in love with the man via the wonderful documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor? This book, as per the sub-title, is all about “Wisdom for Parents and Children from Mister Rogers.” Like the other books we’ve featured, it’s a super quick-reading and equally inspiring collection of brief wisdom gems from our beloved neighbor. I loved it. And, I’ve been enjoying channeling Mister Rogers’ warmth and presence and wisdom in my role as a father to our two little E’s: Emerson (6 as I type this) and Eleanor (2!). Big Ideas we explore include how to deal with disappointment (big and small!), growing (kids AND parents), the complexity of being a parent, setting limits and the power of saying, "I'm sorry."

INTO THE UNKNOWN!!!! (Also known as "The Neighborhood of Make - Believe.") In this episode of nonsensical poppycock, Fanboy and Know-It-All dissect the polarizing film, "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood," and Tom Hanks' portrayal of the beloved Mister Fred Rogers. Elsewhere, our intrepid duo shares some thoughts on Frozen 2 before cannonballing into the ranking of the Top Five Disney Princesses that you didn't know you needed and which you definitely did not deserve. In our last +1, we talked about being the change we want to see in the world. I asked: What change DO you want to see? (Well… What is it?! And… Are you being it?!) That makes me think of another 20th century icon: Mister Fred Rogers. In his great little book The World According to Mister Rogers, we get to immerse ourselves in a collection of wisdom-gems from the great man. Including this one: “The values we care about the deepest, and the movements within society that support those values, command our love. When those things that we care about so deeply become endangered, we become enraged. And what a healthy thing that is! Without it, we would never stand up and speak out for what we believe.” Mister Rogers “enraged”? Yep. You want to see his fierce courage in action? Watch this 6 minute, 50 second video of him testifying before congress. Note: Please make sure you notice how he channeled that rage into pure love. Notice how pure love broke through the armor of a hitherto harsh foe. (I’ll be surprised if you, like the Senator in that hearing, don’t get goosebumps (and/or tears) FEELING the soul force of Fred Rogers standing up and speaking out for what he believed in and dedicated his life to.) What’s fascinating for me is how similar Fred’s approach is to Gandhi’s. As we discussed, one of the primary themes of that book is Gandhi’s evolution/transformation in which he learned to alchemize his anger into an unstoppable “soul-force.” He did this via what he called “satyagraha.” Satyagraha is a word he coined combining two Sanskrit words. It basically means “holding onto truth” and is the foundation of his (and MLK’s) “nonviolent resistance” to evil. So... What values do YOU care about the deepest? What movements within society support those values and command your love? Are those values endangered? If so, let’s become enraged and celebrate the power of that emotion as we alchemize that fierce love into noble action—standing up and speaking out for what we believe.

On this installment of 'MULTIMEDIOCRITY: The Broadcast!,' Talley and Doofin (who's doped up and down a finger) discuss the mostly good nostalgic escapism that is Steven Spielberg's big screen adaptation of Ernest Cline's READY PLAYER ONE, as well as the greatness of both a Spielberg chase sequence and said director's recent secret weapon, Mark Rylance. As is the norm, they also spout off some misinformation, including mistaking actor Derek Luke's roles more than once and referring to Marvel's Secret Wars story arc when they (Talley) meant Secret Invasion. The second half gets a little sopabox-y (which is also par for the course), with the gents choosing not to watch the Roseanne reboot; showing reverence for greats like the reverend, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mister Fred Rogers, and Roger Ebert; and wondering how America got to a place where empathy and kindness is a political stance that has to be defended. Take the sticky buns, but leave the aioli with them on episode 25, heard via the State Lines Network!
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. This week, in a shocking turn of events, we talk about video games. Seth talks about some Nintendo shit, Todd talks about Assassin's Creed. Par for the course. But hey, we talk about some movies, too! More importantly than all of that, though, we celebrate the life and career of Mister Fred Rogers: the best television neighbor any of us could've ever asked for. Discussed: Answering a fan question, we talk about our "mains" in Super Smash Bros. Todd's finished the Assassin's Creed Origins DLC and has reports from the Discovery Tour. Updated thoughts on Kirby: Star Allies. Blade Runner 2049. The Disaster Artist. Fred Rogers and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.
