In this edition of The World According to Irina Tsukerman, the bi-weekly geopolitical series on The KAJ Masterclass LIVE, host Khudania Ajay (KAJ) examines the landmark Iran-US peace agreement and its uncertain path forward with Irina Tsukerman, a US-based national security and human rights lawyer, renowned geopolitical analyst, and Editor-in-Chief of The Washington Outsider. Together, they explore what the deal really means—from Friday's scheduled signing in Geneva and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, to the vague text, back-channel commitments, Israeli objections, and the diplomatic fallout from the US strike that killed three Indian seafarers.
CNBC's Senior Markets Commentator—and the show's first-ever repeat guest—on short selling, AI spending, market concentration, and why the bar is high for what's been working to keep working.Episode OverviewIn this episode of The World According to Boyar, Jonathan Boyar welcomes back CNBC Senior Markets Commentator Michael Santoli—the first repeat guest in the show's history, following his December 2020 appearance in the thick of COVID. Drawing on more than three decades covering Wall Street, Santoli breaks down his now-memorable on-air clash with Ryan Cohen over GameStop's bid for eBay, the return of meme-stock speculation, and the question hanging over everything: Is this market 2021, 1999, or something genuinely new? From AI capital spending and extreme market concentration to whether value and equal-weight stocks are finally due to lead, Santoli argues that today's extremes do not yet match the dot-com peak. But, as he puts it, being told by your doctor that “you're not literally the most unhealthy patient I've had in 30 years” does not mean “you're in great shape.” It's a clear-eyed, historically grounded read on the enduring mix of speculation and investment—what Santoli, invoking Buffett, calls “a casino attached to a church.”Key Topics Covered:Short sellers and the chilling effect: Why short selling is one of the most treacherous games in investing, the “alpha shorts” many hedge funds use, and why even legitimate short sellers have gone quiet. The Ryan Cohen/GameStop showdown: The backstory behind a tense, revealing on-air exchange over GameStop's bid for eBay—and what Santoli believes the Chewy-to-GameStop record reveals.2021, 1999, or both? The retail-trader empowerment of 2021, the narrow-leadership echoes of the dot-com peak, and Santoli's “unhealthy patient” analogy for today's market froth.AI spending and the hardware food chain: Why Santoli suspects the AI hardware complex may be overearning—and whether greater efficiency could eventually undermine today's hardware economics.Market concentration, reconsidered: Why a top-heavy S&P 500 may matter less than people fear—and how the bull case quietly shifted from “asset-light cash machines” to “asset-heavy, invest now, reap later.”Will value and equal weight finally lead? Why durable rotations do not happen “at a full gallop,” and what the October-to-February broadening did—and did not—prove. Why he doesn't pick stocks: How being restricted from owning individual securities became “liberating,” his “voluntary tax on the arrogant” take on sports betting, and his philosophy of staying involved while keeping expectations in check. The evolution of his CNBC role: From appearing on CNBC as a Barron's contributor to becoming a market “color commentator” and co-anchor of Closing Bell: Overtime—and where financial media is heading as the business shifts toward digital. The underreported story: The slow-moving demographic and global-population shifts—and the possibility that the Iran episode accelerates investment in renewables—that Santoli believes investors may be overlooking.About Michael Santoli:Michael Santoli is co-anchor of CNBC's Closing Bell: Overtime and the network's Senior Markets Commentator, with more than three decades of experience covering Wall Street. He began his career at Investment Dealers' Digest before moving to Dow Jones Newswires. He later spent 15 years as a columnist and feature writer at Barron's, where he wrote the Streetwise column, and was a Senior Columnist at Yahoo Finance before joining CNBC in 2015. As a Florida senator, Marco Rubio seemed to hold an opposing world view to Donald Trump; on Russia-Ukraine, on China, on USAID, and more. He notably called Trump a “con man”, and Trump in turn dubbed him, “little Marco”. And yet now, as US Secretary of State, Rubio has made himself indispensable to the president on foreign affairs, bringing his own background to play in policy on Venezuela and Cuba, and shaping the US' approach to further interventions abroad. Trump has even indicated that he wants Rubio to run on a joint ticket with JD Vance for the next US presidency. How has Rubio tailored himself to Trump's world view? And what difference would he bring as a potential presidential candidate? Tom Bateman, the BBC's State Department correspondent, regularly travels with Rubio, and he joins Asma on today's show. The Global Story brings clarity to politics, business and foreign policy in a time of connection and disruption. Episode Overview:In this episode of The World According to Boyar, Jonathan Boyar speaks with Lina Tetelbaum, a corporate partner at Wachtell Lipton, one of the world's most influential corporate law firms, where she heads the firm's shareholder engagement and activism defense practice.Lina takes us inside the world of shareholder activism — how activists choose targets, the small universe of ideas they typically push, how companies and boards respond, and why so many activist campaigns ultimately end in settlements rather than full proxy fights. We discuss the tension between the changes activists typically call for and long-term business strategy, the role of index funds and proxy advisors, how activists build positions, what really happens behind the scenes in settlement negotiations, and why even controlled companies are not completely immune from activist pressure.Lina also shares her perspective on Wachtell Lipton's history in takeover defense and activism, from the era of the poison pill to today's more complex battles between boards, activists, institutional investors, and other stakeholders.Topics discussed include: shareholder activism, proxy fights, activist settlements, board governance, index funds, ISS and Glass Lewis, activist nominees, controlled companies, capital allocation, M&A, and long-term value creation. To receive more of Boyar's research, interviews, and thoughts on investing, subscribe to our Substack at boyarresearch.substack.comAbout Lina Tetelbaum:Elina (Lina) Tetelbaum is a Corporate Partner and Head of Shareholder Engagement and Activism Defense at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. Kerry Lutz and Gregory Mannarino discuss why they believe the financial, political, and media systems are rapidly breaking down — and what individuals can still do to protect themselves before the next major crisis hits. From currency debasement and market manipulation to AI surveillance, stablecoins, and centralized control, they warn that the system is becoming increasingly rigged against the average person. The conversation covers perpetual war, Federal Reserve policy, asset inflation, and the growing transfer of wealth away from the middle class. Greg and Kerry explain why higher interest rates, hard assets, financial independence, and emotional discipline may become critical in the years ahead. Kerry also details ongoing legal and regulatory efforts, including federal lawsuits, petitions with Florida regulators, and a Public Service Commission hearing focused on forcing utility companies to provide access to real customer service representatives instead of endless automation. They also discuss media manipulation, censorship, independent media platforms like Substack, and why grassroots action and personal responsibility may be the only path left to restoring economic freedom. This week on Born to Watch, Whitey flies solo for a massive deep dive into 1982: Year in Review, revisiting one of the most important, influential and completely stacked years in cinema history. While 1982 might not officially hold the crown as the greatest movie year ever, it delivered a collection of films that completely changed Hollywood forever. In this special episode, Whitey breaks down how one single year gave us E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Blade Runner, The Thing, First Blood, Rocky III, Poltergeist, Conan the Barbarian and Tron all within the same incredible stretch of cinema history.Whitey explores the insane eight-week period where science fiction and fantasy films absolutely rewired Hollywood forever. It was the year when genre filmmaking exploded, CGI truly began, practical effects reached their peak, and audiences somehow ignored two movies that are now regarded as masterpieces: Blade Runner and The Thing. There's a huge breakdown of the 1982 box office top ten, including Whitey revisiting Spielberg's emotional masterpiece E.T., which held the box office record for an entire decade. He reflects on how modern kids' movies rarely hit adults emotionally the same way they once did, admitting E.T. absolutely destroyed him on the cry meter during a recent rewatch. The episode also revisits cult favourites like First Blood, with Whitey passionately defending it as one of the great character-driven action films of the 1980s. There's love for Stallone's unbelievable double act of releasing both Rocky III and First Blood in the same year, proving just how dominant Sly was during the early 80s.Whitey also dives into why Rocky III remains one of the best Rocky films ever made, praising Mr T as one of the greatest movie villains of the decade and celebrating the pure charisma he brought to Clubber Lang despite having no acting experience.Australian cinema gets its flowers too, with a huge spotlight on Mad Max 2 and The Man from Snowy River. Whitey argues that both films stand proudly alongside any Hollywood blockbuster of the era and explains how Mad Max 2 became the blueprint for almost every post-apocalyptic movie that followed. There's also a deep appreciation for practical effects and filmmaking craftsmanship throughout the episode. Whitey passionately argues that The Thing still contains the greatest practical creature effects ever put to screen, while Blade Runner's vision of a futuristic Los Angeles remains one of the most influential science fiction worlds ever created.Along the way, there are classic Born to Watch tangents and stories, including:Whitey is getting in trouble in Year 4 after explaining an infamous scene from The World According to GarpChildhood memories of The Pirate Movie soundtrackThe bizarre success of Porky'sWhy does Tootsie make more money than Blade Runner feel completely wrongHow Grease 2 became one of the ugliest moments of 1982 cinemaWhitey also celebrates underrated classics like Firefox, Creepshow, Fast Times at Ridgemont High and 48 Hrs., while exploring how 1982 represented a time when studios were still willing to take massive creative risks on strange, ambitious and original films. This is one of the biggest movie deep dives Born to Watch has ever done, packed full of nostalgia, movie trivia, hilarious stories and genuine love for cinema.JOIN THE CONVERSATION Was 1982 the greatest movie year ever? In this high-intensity episode, Kerry Lutz and John Rubino dive into the "world gone insane." From the shifting geopolitical sands in Iran and Cuba to the death of judicial deference in Florida, we explore how the "average citizen" is finally gaining the tools to fight back against a predatory bureaucracy. We break down the mathematical inevitability of triple-digit silver, the impact of the 2026 "Panic Cycle," and why the government's reliance on "digital shakedowns" (like app-based parking) is about to hit a massive legal wall. Key Discussion Points: Geopolitics & The Election: Why the 2026 midterms are forcing the administration's hand in Iran and Cuba. The Administrative "Shot Clock": How Florida's Chapter 120 is being used to corner state agencies. The End of Deference: Why judges are no longer allowed to "grade the agency's own homework." Commodity Super-Cycle: Why silver at $100/oz is a realistic milestone in the face of currency debasement. The "Privateer" Problem: Exposing the revenue-share models that turn municipal parking into digital bounty hunting. Kerry Lutz goes live with Gerald Celente for a powerful conversation on the growing global chaos reshaping markets, economies, technology and society itself. From the escalating Iran-Israel conflict and fears of wider war, to soaring oil prices, gold's breakout move and the accelerating rise of artificial intelligence, Celente warns the world is entering a dangerous new era of instability. Gerald explains why he believes geopolitical tensions are far from over, why the global economy is already starting to crack under pressure, and why gold continues attracting safe-haven demand as uncertainty spreads worldwide. He also shares his outlook on China's rapid technological rise, the future impact of AI on jobs and society, and why he believes the cultural and economic foundations of the West are being fundamentally transformed. In this edition of The World According to Irina Tsukerman, the bi-weekly geopolitical series on The KAJ Masterclass LIVE, host Khudania Ajay (KAJ) examines whether Trump's pause of Project Freedom actually ends the Iran-US war with Irina Tsukerman, a US-based national security and human rights lawyer, renowned geopolitical analyst, and Editor-in-Chief of The Washington Outsider. Together, they explore Pakistan's new land routes into Iran bypassing sanctions, the third assassination attempt against Trump, and what new auto tariffs, shifting European defense, and Israel-Lebanon negotiations mean for the broader balance of power.
Kerry Lutz was joined by precious metals expert Andy Schectman and a powerhouse panel discussion covering the growing stress fractures inside the global financial system, the silver market, and the accelerating shift away from dollar dominance. The conversation dives deep into unusual activity inside COMEX, massive physical silver deliveries, warehouse drawdowns, rising questions about market trust, and why some believe the silver market is approaching a breaking point. The panel also examines China's growing role in precious metals, BRICS payment systems, gold-convertible trade settlements, and the global push toward a multipolar financial order. They discuss mounting debt pressure, rising interest rates, and forecasts for a potential panic cycle that could dramatically reshape markets over the next several years. The group also explores geopolitical realignment, changing energy trade routes, and what these developments could mean for the future of the U.S. dollar and precious metals prices. In the second half, Kerry outlines an aggressive Florida-based legal and regulatory campaign targeting municipal parking enforcement, utility customer service policies, and state compliance issues — while sharing plans for upcoming investor events and future coordination efforts. Kerry Lutz and Dale Smothers break down the Fed's latest decision to hold rates and what it really signals beneath the surface. With inflation still sticky, oil prices elevated, and the labor market holding strong, they explain why the Fed may be stuck—and what that means going forward. From there, the conversation shifts global. The Iran flashpoint isn't just regional—it's the front line of a much bigger global strategy. What looks like isolated tension is part of a coordinated push shaping power, trade, and influence worldwide. Kerry Lutz sits down with Todd Sheets to break down why Iran sits at the center of U.S. focus, how control of critical waterways like the Strait of Hormuz factors into the equation, and why this moment signals a more aggressive projection of power. The conversation connects Middle East escalation to broader geopolitical moves, including pressure points tied to global commerce and rival superpowers. They also dig into the domestic side—how shifting presidential authority and political dynamics are influencing decisions both abroad and at home. This isn't just about conflict. It's about control, leverage, and what comes next. Kerry Lutz sits down with Jay Mehta to break down a stronger-than-expected consumer confidence report—but the story beneath the surface is far more complicated. Mehta explains why confidence is rising, pointing to a still-resilient labor market and households that continue to spend. But despite the upbeat data, the bigger question is how long this strength can actually last. Rising energy costs are starting to creep back into the picture, and they hit lower-income households the hardest—threatening to squeeze discretionary spending and shift the trajectory of the broader economy. So far, sentiment hasn't cracked… but the pressure is building. Mehta explains why investors shouldn't react emotionally to short-term shocks, how to stay positioned with a long-term strategy, and why the energy sector is one to watch closely in the months ahead. The consumer may look strong today—but the risks are quietly stacking up. Peter Schiff breaks down why the dollar is in real trouble—and why gold may be the only way out. Kerry Lutz sits down with Peter Schiff to unpack mounting pressure on the U.S. dollar and the growing risk of a sovereign debt crisis. Schiff explains why foreign demand for Treasuries is fading, how the Fed is effectively monetizing debt, and why repeated fiscal "kicks" may be pushing the system toward a breaking point. He lays out his strategy—reducing dollar exposure in favor of foreign dividend-paying stocks and gold—and why that approach has been outperforming. The discussion also covers gold and silver trends, mining valuations, and new developments in gold-backed financial products. Bottom line: the risks are rising—and the window to act may be closing. This interview dives into warnings of a major economic collapse already in motion. Kerry sits down with Darryl Schoon to break down what's happening beneath the surface—where inflation is crushing affordability, while deflation quietly destroys money through debt defaults and contraction. They unpack how credit creation, loan failures, and central bank intervention are colliding in real time. Quantitative easing since 2009 may have kept the system alive—but at a cost. Money velocity has collapsed to Great Depression levels, while liquidity has been funneled into financial assets and housing, pushing prices out of reach. The conversation turns to real-world warning signs: frozen private equity funds, tightening credit, rising repossessions, and corporations buying up housing—only to drive rents higher. What looks stable on the surface is showing serious cracks underneath. They also explore the bigger picture—war, central banking, and decades of offshoring accelerating the instability—while questioning whether any real solutions remain. Robin Williams was already a comedy and TV star based on his stand-up and starring role in Mork & Mindy. He'd also ventured into film with the films Popeye, The World According to Garp, and Moscow on the Hudson as modest successes. It wasn't until 1987 when he starred in a Vietnam War-era comedy that propelled him to mega-stardom. Based on the true-life experiences of Armed Forces Radio Service DJ Adrian Cronauer, Williams heavily improvised much of the on-and-off the air humor as he tries to cheer up the troops from his recording booth in Saigon. For the role, Williams won a Golden Globe and scored his first Oscar nomination, and the film's album won a Grammy for best Comedy Album. Kerry sits down with Dennis Tubergen to break down a rapidly shifting economic landscape—and the warning signs are getting louder. Tubergen argues stagflation is no longer theoretical. With inflation rising and GDP expectations falling, he warns that higher energy prices could fuel a prolonged and painful cycle just as growth slows. The focus then shifts to gold and silver, where recent pullbacks look more like consolidation than weakness. With physical supply deficits and potential delivery stress, the setup—especially for silver—could be explosive. They also examine central banks accumulating gold, raising deeper concerns about long-term confidence in fiat currencies, while questioning the durability of cryptocurrencies. The conversation wraps with capital migration trends across the U.S., as high-income earners and corporations relocate to more favorable tax environments—highlighting growing structural and policy pressures. After a short hiatus, I'm back with a paired review of The World According to Coco and The Little Book of Chanel. Truthfully, neither book is extraordinary on its own.
