No show this week due to the Extra Large Charity Drive, so in its place we have an SDGC crossover episode of Castle Bravo (originally recorded and released earlier this year). SDGC host Derek and moderator Charlotte are joined by fellow SDGC host Justin to talk about one of the most highly regarded Godzilla films of all time: Mothra vs Godzilla (not to be confused with Godzilla vs Mothra, a completely different movie made 30 years later). The themes and comedic, family-friendly tone of the original Mothra film blend with Godzilla's larger-scale destruction and monster smackdowns to finally find the sweet spot that would define Godzilla for decades to come.
ThePoeticCritic joins the likes of Gregory Carl as one of NinetyForChill's annual spooky month guests as she comes to chat about Kaiju movies. Cool Movies Darth did not know that his big sister had purchased the Criterion Collection's complete "Godzilla" box set, so he may have underestimated the knowledge that would be brought to the show. He gets to chat about the modern, less fun features, but TPC from Pumpkin Town brings the A-Grade knowledge about giant monsters to this episode.

On this Thursday edition of Drive-In Double Feature Podcast, Nathan and Ryan, talk about another movie in the Toho cannon, Mothra vs Godzilla. Otherwise known as Godzilla vs The Thing here in the United States. Two giants in the Kaiju film cannon face off against each other in what is considered the gold standard for Kaiju monster flicks. Not only is there a huge fight on screen, but there might be a fight on the podcast. as the hosts find out where their allegiances lie. This week's episode is monstrous as we take on not one, but two Kajui movies with a total of five monsters. Our first movie will is the legendary first crossover between the butt kicking Queen of infant Island Mothra, and the very hungover king of the late night bender Godzilla, in Mothra Vs Godzilla. We watched as Godzilla stumbled around like a dang fool, and Mothra was forced to beat some sense into him. There are human characters in this film too, but the only interesting ones are about 6 inches tall. After that we decided to go more modern and talk the 2014 film Godzilla. If you've seen the trailers and you're ready to see a Bryan Cranston lead adventure against the might of Godzilla you are in for a major surprise. See how we try to translate the material from the classic guy in a rubber suite series, into a CGI special effects driven vehicle. Also make sure to stick around to the end of the episode to hear a brand-new song by Soul Grinder. If you like our intro and outro music you'll love their new single Melting Spree. After you hear it here make sure to check out their YouTube Channel to see just how sexy melting can get. After you listen let us know if you agree on whether Mothra vs Godzilla and Godzilla (2014) are Bloody Good Films. And remember... Hello, kaiju lovers! Today's episode is a momentous one. Nate discusses the all-time classic Mothra vs. Godzilla with Daniel DiManna of the Godzilla Novelization Project. Now Nate has come full circle because this was the first film whose episode he recorded first in his previous podcast life. But this episode is better! How could it not be with the living kaiju encyclopedia as a guest? Nate and Danny discuss everything: the Godzilla suit, the Mothra puppet, the script, the characters, and of course, the late great Akira Takarada. This G-film doesn't do anything new, but what it does, it does to near-perfection. No wonder it's considered one of the best of the franchise! Afterward, Nate and Danny are joined by Nate's pseudo-sister, Jessica, to livestream the sendoff of Mothra's newly-laid egg back to Infant Island. Unfortunately, the Church of Mothrianity strikes again! The web-splitting Silkworm attacks, and even Jessica's magical girl persona, Crystal Lady, can't stop her—until she gets help from a new companion. The epilogue, “The Coming of Mimo! Crystal Lady vs. Silkworm!” was written by Nathan Marchand. Special thanks to J.P. Gant for helping to edit this episode! Follow him on Twitter: @Homebrewed_SD (https://tinyurl.com/2jpc36r5). What was intended to be a shorter episode with hosts busy or ill turned into the birthing of an entire new sub-series because Fletcher and Chris a) own a lot of these films and b) love talking about them. Show Notes: Pink Lady and Jeff (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Lady_(TV_series)) was a real production and you can't unlearn that. Read about this absolutely insane story. I sliced it out of the episode because it was too tangential even for this, but there was a whole discussion of VHS-based classic rental stores and a famous San Diego establishment that died twice, Kensington Video (https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/business/sd-me-kensington-video-20170110-story.html). Let's be honest, everyone. Mothra vs. Godzilla is a classic. But ever since someone pointed out that's KingGoji on the poster, we haven't been able to think about anything else. Joining the guys this episode, however, is Benjamin Chaffins (@thebigbadben90 on Twitter). Hijinks ensue. Some slight censoring of language. Oh, and Chris finally gets a movie date right! (Kinda.)
