Horror Weekly Episode #318 We have an interesting collection this week! We'll start off with the fairly recent “The Soul Eater” and “Frankie Freako.” We actually forgot that there was a new Ghostbusters movie last year, so we picked that one up as well. Then we'll look at a couple of oldies, “The Stranglers of Bombay” from Hammer films and “Godzilla vs. Hedorah” (aka “The Smog Monster”). And, of course, we have more excellent short films for you! The latest issue of “Horror Monthly” is now on sale!
It's a big show with an even bigger cast of characters. We discuss the 1971 kaiju film Godzilla vs. Hedorah. This iteration of the Godzilla franchise is one of the goofier ones, as Godzilla takes on the role of protector once again, but this time against the dangers of pollution. In the episode, we talk […] The post Godzilla vs. Hedorah appeared first on Cult Film in Review.

Hello, Kaiju Lovers! It's a full house (“full mecha”?) in today's Godzilla Redux episode on the infamous but now-popular-to-like G-film, Godzilla vs. Hedorah (aka Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster). Daniel DiManna (Godzilla Novelization Project), Ben Avery (Strangers and Aliens; Welcome to Level 7), and Matt and Gratton of Giant Monster BS all return to discuss the strangest yet arguably most auteur film in the franchise. To say it kicked off the ‘70s G-films with a strange bang would be an understatement. It's trippy imagery, bizarre monster, and psychedelic pop music all came from the mind of one Yoshimitsu Banno, who despite being rumored for years to have been told he ruined Godzilla, went on to help launch the MonsterVerse. Our panelists unpack that, the film's subtle-as-a-sledgehammer messages, its co-screenwriter Kaoru Mabuchi/Takeshi Kimura, and much, much more! Edited by Christopher Riner with Nathan Marchand. This episode we freely and loosely talk about….you guessed it GODZILLA MINUS ONE. We also touch on the continuance of the Monsterverse! Tune in to see who's the filthiest in this exciting episode!!
Let me just say this right now, folks: when someone tells you that hooking up smokestacks to your septic tank will result in a 95% reduction in airborne poo particles, they're probably telling you a tall tale. Take us for example. We attach a pair of smokestacks, and before you know it we're getting hit with lawsuits from people suffering acid burns and even death. But luckily, our old friend Immortan Hoof has provided us with a monster film that just so happens to tackle this very subject… I'm your host, Dave, and joining me as we sit down for some Kaiju on Smog action are fellow cinephiles and bonfire-loving hippies Mike, Ryan, Jackie, and Nick “Immortan Hoof”. Topics of discussion in this episode include Godzilla entering Fatality mode as he rids the Earth of Hedorah with Kano-like brutality; the 60's are alive and well in Japan as we witness the psychedelic club scene in Tokyo; and finally, move over Mjolnir, because Godzilla has devised an even more outlandish form of propulsion: heat ray flying. Be sure to rate, review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. You can also Follow Us on Twitter, Like Us on Facebook, or shoot us an email at apocalypsevideopod@gmail.com. Got a movie you'd like us to watch? Hit us up and we'll talk about it on the show! That'll do it for this episode, folks. And don't forget - stop the spread of pollution! If you see a mound of smog with red eyes, punch through it with your fists! Together we can stop smog from ruining our planet, one glowy goo orb at a time! (This message brought to you by the Apocalypse Video “Save the Planet” Foundation).

Here is, at this moment in time, the last movie with a man in a suit is playing Godzilla. So it's the end of an era for these kind of Godzilla movies. And they're BIG for this one! But does bigger mean better? If you ask the fans, that depends on your preference of movies. You'll either love it or hate it. Let's find out which, one last time.
The episode wraps up the 2023 season. The we decided to do a fan favorite shooting the hedorah. You'll have to come listen to hear all the things we talked about!
One of the finest entries of the original Godzilla era, featuring easily the most interesting monster Godzilla has encountered yet. Hedorah is pollution incarnate; he brings death and environmental decay to visceral effect, feeds off of smoke stacks, and can even transform to dominate the land, sea, and sky. Can a scientist and his son who has a psychic connection to Godzilla (don't ask) help defeat this threat?
In the 1970s, Godzilla movies began to stray from their anti-nuclear message and instead focused on a new issue: Pollution! No film personifies that message quite like our film this week, Godzilla vs. Hedorah. But did we enjoy this slimy film? Or does it get lost in the smog? Listen and find out! You can contact us at stompthisway1954@gmail.com The final track is Save the Earth by Riichiro Manabe
On this episode we just talk about various topics laughing and shooting the hedorah (s#!t).
Rarrrrr! On today's all new episode of PCMC, Mike is joined by Nadia Kader to discuss the weird and funky 1971 kaiju movie; "Godzilla vs. Hedorah." This is one of the most infamous Godzilla movies because it's such an outlier in its style and message. It's a psychodelic romp of a about Godzilla movie, where the king of the monsters squares off against a gross pollution kaiju. It's also the only movie where Godzilla flies (and it's weird)! Follow @PCMCpod on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok. Find Pop Culture Man Children on Facebook and Youtube.

This might be the last Godzilla film with a message. Unfortunately, that message, warning about pollution, is lost with psychadelic footage, strange suits, and the occasional groovy dance scene. Yep, it's Godzilla v. Hedorah. Or in the US, Godzilla v. The Smog Monster.
In this episode of the Drive In Double Feature Podcast, hosts Nathan and Ryan delve into the world of kaiju cinema as they discuss one of the most iconic battles in movie history - Godzilla vs. Hedorah. YHS on Monster Island returns and takes a look at the polarizing 2004 entry and finale of the Millennium series, Godzilla: Final Wars...and what better way to do that than have "The Tattooed Titan of Tokusatsu" Jacob Walsh reveal his Top 10 kaiju designs (or, more accurately, re-designs)? Our host minces no words as he discusses what went right, wrong...and very wrong...with the likes of Keizer Ghidorah, Anguirus, Monster X, and the entire Final Wars kaiju roster. On top of reviewing the film, Jacob and Jay touch on some recent toy news from Marusan, Star Ace/X-Plus, and compare the upcoming wacky Hedorah releases from Medicom Toy x Akashic Records and Swimmy Design Lab. Jay also provides a recap of Toku Toy Town's weekend at Retro Expo and his run-in with a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer! Of course, it wouldn't be YHS on Monster Island without weekly pick-ups...and though it's a light week on that front, it doesn't stop our dynamic duo of daikaiju devotees from detouring on topics such as Jay's fear of Harryhausen collecting and Super Mario Bros. toys. As always, please leave us a rating and review...and subscribe to the channel to get your latest on kaiju films, fandom, television, and toys! This week Henshin Men covers an episode of Kamen Rider (1971) directed by its series creator, the manga legend Shotaro Ishinomori! Such a momentous occasion requires a momentous guest, and in this case its tokusatsu YouTuber Blunova. He and Nathan discuss how Ishinomori brings a unique visual style that harkens back to the first 13 episodes of the series and channels Yoshimitsu Banno's Godzilla vs. Hedorah. In fact, the second episode, which features a turtle/eel hybrid kaijin with “casual decapitation powers,” touches on Japan's pollution problem like much toku did at the time. All this and more in the latest episode of Henshin Men!Kamen Rider (1971) is available to stream on Shout!FactoryTV and Tubi. Summer Sequel Month 2022 starts off with the Kaiju Crew (Julie, Nick, Bobby, and Mike) discussing one of the most infamous Godzilla movies ever made! Originally called Godzilla Vs. The Smog Monster in the US, this is the only Godzilla film where the director was BANNED from making another by longtime producer Tomoyuki Tanaka. Find out why on this episode of the bin!
In what is perhaps one of the oddest double-features Jeff and Rich have ever encountered, the two brave podcasters face Hedorah (the Smog Monster) and the temporarily decapitated head of Ray Milland. During the respective running times of their films, both monsters evolve in ways possible only in the early 1970s. . Spoiler alert if you didn't know: pollution and racism are bad. Yes, these movies have messages! Occasionally heavy-handed, but always fun, Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster and The Thing with Two Heads are worth watching if you haven't seen them. Still not sure? Long before the South Korean film industry was putting out groundbreaking and critically beloved flicks like The Host and Parasite, they bestowed upon the world such epic daikaiju dumpster fires as Yongary, Monster from the Deep (1967) and War of the God Monsters (1985). The question isn't if the "The Tattooed Titan of Tokusatsu" Jacob Walsh and "The Mayor of Toku Toy Town" Jay Key enjoyed these two movies - it's if they survived them. Though Yongary's historical significance on the Korean film world is legitimate and undeniable, it provides little shelter from itchy monster dances, rectal bleeding, poorly hidden flame throwers, and thinly veiled metaphors regarding South Korea's geo-political views following the Korean War. It helps redefine the word "boring". But less than twenty years later, the world was treated to what can only be described as the cinematic interpretation of insanity in its purest form. Stock footage Tsuburaya monsters described as "dinosaurs". Bones that may or may not cause children to get sick. Uncomfortable emotional and physical abuse. A sociopathic pre-teen. And that baby scene...oh, that baby scene. Maybe there was a reason this film was lost. In addition to traversing the landscape of South Korean kaiju, Jake and Jay discuss some hot news items such as the approaching Godzilla Day and the two huge announcements - the official Toho short, Godzilla vs. Hedorah (in honor of Hedorah's 50th anniversary), and Super7's tease of their next reveal (the first wave of Ultimates, maybe?). The two hosts also compare pick-ups; Jake flexes his cute credentials with a "pumpkin" Negora and LitGodzi Space Godzilla cup...Jay battles back with a cool MaxToyCo Ultraman and a set of Eiji Tsuburaya 100th anniversary finger puppets from Yutaka.
YHS on Monster Island - I Guess We're Doing Godzilla 1998 If you want to listen to "The Tattooed Titan of Tokasatsu" Jacob Walsh act as a truth-telling troubadour trumpeting the trial and tribulations of Tri-Star...this is your episode...and YHS on Monster Island is your podcast. Mr. Walsh and his spunky sidekick, Jay Key, tackle the most maligned Godzilla film in the series - Godzilla (1998). More so than any other movie in the franchise save Godzilla vs. Hedorah, the "what ifs" and lore surrounding the production have become bigger than the film itself. Our hosts discuss those very aspects of this bloated and misguided flick along with everything from the seemingly unlimited merchandise to the lack of emotional connection to the characters (or, at least, the emotional connection that was intended by the filmmakers) to the radical design of the King of the Marine Iguanas. An interesting question is raised - if you applaud the new and unique approaches to Godzilla such as Shin Godzilla, Godzilla Earth, and Godzilla Ultima, can you not give credit to the Tri-Star interpretation for being, quite possibly, the furthest from the original concept? All of this, plus Jay and Jake share their most recent toy purchases including the X-Plus Gigantic Godzilla 1954, a 2003 Marmit Varan, and...did Jay really buy Yamato Takeru figures?
