Vic Verchereau welcomes Carmen Beemer, who is the National Cherry Queen. The very first "Cherry" festival was held in May 1925, and was known at that time as the Blessing of the Blossoms. The first cherry queen was Gertrude Brown but the current National Cherry Queen is Carmen Beemer and she joins Vic Verchereau for a guided tour of one of Michigan's most famous festivals! Carmen is the 22-year-old daughter of Gary Godley and Shannon Beemer of Wayland. She is a 2020 graduate of Thornapple Kellogg High School and is in her senior year at Michigan State University where she majors in Horticulture Science with a minor in Crop and Soil Sciences. Driven by her adoration for the agricultural industry, Carmen aspires to continue to advocate for the cherry and all other agricultural industries indefinitely. March 7, 2024 ~ Festival Foundation Executive Director Kat Paye chats with Paul W about how according to a 2022 economic study done by Grand Valley State University, Festival Foundation events, such as the National Cherry Festival, generate more than $40 million dollars of economic activity in the Traverse City region and more than $170,000 in charitable donations from the Festival Foundation to local community organizations.
What a great season! What a great team! Our beloved Detroit Lions had a season for the ages, and we just can't get enough. We just had to have one more week of Detroit Lions football. What a great show this weekend, with superfans, super chefs, and even a former player stopping by to share the excitement.We start with our good friend Earl Bovia from Bay City Bills Bar & Grill, a Lions season ticket holder along with his wife Michelle, and a huge supporter of all things Bay City. He and Gonzo even went to a few games together this year, we recap a few of their favorite moments from this season.Gina Ferwerda is a chef, business owner, and published cookbook author based in the Silver Lake area.
