Welcome back to For The Love of Guns! In this relaxed and nostalgic episode, host Jason Schaller sits down in-studio with returning guest Lonnie Robinson, a longtime friend, Marine Corps veteran, and firearms enthusiast. Together, they dive into the joys and challenges of getting back into competition shooting as they navigate their "older years," reflecting on past experiences, evolving passions, and the camaraderie that keeps them hooked on the sport. Key Segments Intro: Welcome Back Lonnie [00:00:04 - 00:01:42] Jason kicks off the show with a warm welcome to Lonnie, a rare in-studio guest who's back for more “abuse.” The duo shares how they met—Lonnie as a customer when Jason ran an FFL—and their enduring friendship despite Jason's playful jabs. Topic: Returning to Competition Shooting [00:01:43 - 00:11:53] Jason and Lonnie discuss their return to competition shooting, focusing on trap, sporting clays, and pistol matches. Lonnie reflects on his recent trap and five-stand sessions at a new club, reigniting his love for shotgunning—a passion rooted in his Marine Corps days and childhood hunting in Texas. Jason shares his own journey, from trap at age 10 with an 870 Wingmaster to pistol competitions in his 20s and sporting clays in his 30s. They explore the physical challenges of aging—shoulder surgeries, knee issues, and arthritis—and how it shifts their focus from winning to enjoying the sport and camaraderie. Highlight: Lonnie's shift to competing against himself rather than others: “I'm my main adversary now.” [00:06:13] Sponsor Break: EGIS Gun Care [00:11:53 - 00:12:35] Jason gives a shoutout to AEGIS Gun Care at https://trb.fyi/boomlube, praising their oils and teasing an upcoming content idea. Use code BoomLub at checkout for 10% off and to support the show! Long-Range Shooting: Military vs. Now [00:12:35 - 00:16:58] Lonnie contrasts his Marine Corps long-range shooting with today's recreational approach, emphasizing fun over necessity. A discussion on ethical hunting: Lonnie opts against building a long-range hunting rifle (7mm PRC) for a client due to insufficient skill and practice for shots beyond 400 yards. Highlight: “Unless you know your rifle, load, and wind conditions, you shouldn't take long-range shots.” [00:14:46] Gunsmithing: Experience Over Certificates [00:17:01 - 00:23:26] The pair dive into building custom rifles, with Lonnie sharing his work at Little Mountain Gun Works and Jason recounting his own builds (e.g., rebarreling Remington 700s). They critique gunsmithing schools like SDI and MGS, agreeing real-world experience trumps formal diplomas. Lonnie's “diploma from life and the Marine Corps” speaks for itself. Highlight: Lonnie on woodworking: “I don't need a class—I make really nice stocks.” [00:20:52] Competition Rifles and Shotguns [00:23:26 - 00:45:24] From chassis systems to classic over-and-unders, they explore how competition gear has evolved and their personal preferences (Lonnie's Beretta love shines through). Lonnie's shift to enjoying the process over scores: “My five-stand was atrocious compared to my old scores, but I had a blast.” [00:45:10] Speed Round [00:51:22 - 00:57:03] Jason surprises Lonnie with a quick-fire Q&A: Ear plugs or muffs? Plugs for shotguns. [00:52:16] 357 or 454 Casull? 357 for versatility. [00:53:55] Improved or modified choke? Modified for all-around use. [00:55:05] Single shot or lever action? Single shot (Ruger No. 1 fan). [00:56:23] Thinking Question: From the world's largest armory, Lonnie picks a Ma Deuce (.50 BMG), envisioning it in a Jeep for Rolling Thunder. [00:57:27] Wrap-Up: Little Mountain Gun Works [01:01:03 - 01:04:26] Lonnie introduces his retirement gig at Little Mountain Gun Works, crafting custom PRS and NRL rifles with his 07 FFL. Jason teases future collaborations—stay tuned for more! The episode ends with their signature banter,

As part of the inaugural Automotive Intelligence Awards, Cherokee Media Group is honoring a select group of outstanding auto industry analysts for their contribution to the knowledge base of the used-car retail, finance and remarketing industries. To conclude our series of podcasts with these first-ever honorees in the Automotive Intelligence Awards: Industry Analysts program, we talk with Kevin Roberts, director of economic and market intelligence at CarGurus. Roberts, who is from Detroit, has a deep family background in automotive. His great-grandfather worked at Willys-Overland Motors in Toledo, Ohio — "that was Jeep before Jeep," he said — and that tradition of working in the car business continued over three more generations. Combine that with his love of math and economics, and being an auto analyst was a "natural fit" for Roberts. He shares that story and more in our conversation.
Most Think - Your Opinion Doesn't Carry Risk PT 3 Hi everyone, Carl Gould here with your #70secondCEO. Just a little over a one minute investment every day for a lifetime of results. Perfect example. I have a Jeep, I got those aftermarket tires on, right? It says inflate the tires between 35 and 40 pounds. So I go into the place, and the guy says to me, I go into the oil change place, and he says, oh, your tires could use a little air. I'm like, all right, well, what pressure should I put them at? And he's like, well, if you put them at 35, they'll last longer, but 40, you'll get more performance. All right, well, you're the expert, what should I put them at? And you could tell, he was like, well, that's not for me to decide, Carl, you know, it's your Jeep there. And I was like, dude, I came in, you're the tire store. I don't know, if this was your Jeep, what would you put it at? He goes, 38. 38, I'll do 38, so I got a good choice. Like and follow this podcast so you can learn more. My name is Carl Gould and this has been your #70secondCEO.

From humble beginnings in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to leading a powerhouse in American-made, enthusiast-driven products, Brian's story is one of grit, faith, and off-road passion. Join us as we dive into: How JCR Offroad (yes, it stands for "Jesus Christ Rocks") grew from a college side hustle to a 22-year legacy. The secrets behind their top-quality Jeep Cherokee, Gladiator, and JL products—and why they're built to last. The hilarious marketing stunts (Handicorn, anyone?) that set JCR apart in a sea of knockoffs. The challenges of battling cheap Chinese copies and staying true to their off-road roots. A sneak peek into JCR's new podcast, Lean By Doing, and their game-changing approach to lean manufacturing. Brian also shares personal anecdotes—like building bumpers in his mom's garage with a plasma cutter and a bottle jack—and how JCR continues to innovate while keeping customers at the heart of everything they do. Whether you're an XJ loyalist, a Gladiator fan, or just love a good underdog story, this interview is packed with inspiration, laughs, and Jeep wisdom you won't want to miss!

Tubi? Jim Wynorski? Comic book movie? Sometimes I think we parody ourselves. Your Stupid Minds comes to you this time around with 1989's The Return of Swamp Thing, starring Heather Locklear, Louis Jourdan and Wynorski muse Monique Gabrielle. Picking up after the events of the last movie, as best we can surmise Swamp Thing killed Dr. Anton Arcane (Jourdan) but it didn't take, since he specializes in Ra's al Ghul style immortality practices. So Swamp Thing, a.k.a. Alec Holland, wanders around the Louisiana bayou campily beating up monsters and cajun caricatures. It vaguely resembles Alan Moore's run of the comic; as if someone recited major plot points from memory to the screenwriters while they watch TV. Meanwhile, Abby Arcane (Locklear) goes to her step-father's swamp compound in some vague attempt to learn more about her dead mother. She's met by Dr. Arcane's menagerie of 80s misfits: buxom British scientist Dr. Lana Zurrell (Sarah Douglas), asthmatic other scientist Dr. Rochelle (Ace Mask, who as far as we know is not a homunculus assembled from Jim Carrey movie titles) and mercenary Miss Poinsettia (Gabrielle). There's some plot point about using Abby's blood to create an immortality serum (since she has the "exact genetic code" of her mother, which is not how genetics work). Meanwhile some crawfish-fed local youths try to snap a picture of Swamp Thing using their dad's $5,000 camera. Will Swamp Thing save the day? Will he and Abby have sex after hallucinating off a flower he picked off his body? Can Swamp Thing drive a Jeep? You'll have to listen to find out!
In this episode, Scott Becker discusses the recent downturn of Grindr, Astera Labs, and Stellantis, highlighting key challenges, market confidence issues, and personal investment lessons.
