For three decades following World War II, the Great Lakes overtook Europe as the epicenter of global economic strength. The region was the beating heart of the world economy, possessing all the power and prestige Silicon Valley does today. And no ship represented the apex of the American Century better than the 729-foot-long Edmund Fitzgerald―the biggest, best, and most profitable ship on the Lakes. But on November 10, 1975, as the “storm of the century” threw one hundred mile-per-hour winds and 50-foot waves on Lake Superior, the Mighty Fitz found itself at the worst possible place, at the worst possible time. When she sank, she took all twenty-nine men onboard down with her, leaving the tragedy shrouded in mystery for a half century. In The Gales of November, award-winning journalist John U. Bacon presents the definitive account of the disaster, drawing on more than one hundred interviews with the families, friends, and former crewmates of those lost. Bacon explores the vital role Great Lakes shipping played in America's economic boom, the uncommon lives the sailors led, the sinking's most likely causes, and the heartbreaking aftermath for those left behind―"the wives, the sons, and the daughters,” as Gordon Lightfoot sang in his unforgettable ballad.Focused on those directly affected by the tragedy, The Gales of November is both an emotional tribute to the lives lost and a propulsive, page-turning narrative history of America's most-mourned maritime disaster. https://www.amazon.com/Gales-November-Untold-Edmund-Fitzgerald/dp/1324094648http://www.yourlotandparcel.org

This itinerary-packed episode blends outdoor thrills, scenic waterways, small-town flavor, and immersive fun into one unforgettable journey. The day kicks off in Clermont at Revolution Adventures, a 230-acre off-road park where guests climb into amphibious Mucky Duck vehicles to tackle muddy trails, splash through water crossings, and experience Florida's wild side firsthand. ...in which we embark on a memorial walk to Innominate Tarn on Haystacks to ask the question: How did fell-walker Alfred Wainwright impact on so many lives? Closing a year of AW anniversaries – including the 70th anniversary of the publication of his first Pictorial Guide – we set out from Honister in the company of a string of guests whose lives have been touched or changed by the Blackburn-born rambler, artist and guidebook writer. Chatting as we wander – through dense clag and worsening rain – we meet walker Richard Jennings, who completed his 214 at 2:14 on the 21st of the fourth, 2014 (definitely not an obsessive!), and who credits AW with his move to the Lakes. We catch up with geographer-legend Chris Jesty – the only person authorised by AW to update his Guides – who chats about camping on Scafell Pike for six months "waiting for clear weather", about the 10-year three-month update odyssey, and why the Howgills and Outlying Fells are his backwater favourites. Arriving at Dubs Hut, we are joined by brothers Mike and Paul Duff from Kendal. who accompanied dad Percy and Betty Wainwright onto Haystacks in March '91 to scatter AW's ashes, and who recall their old family friend – the "foreigner from Blackburn" who sunk roots deep in Westmorland. Anna Nolan from Keswick is our next guest – a bagging record-breaker currently on her 11th round of the Wainwrights by bus, with a cumulative tally of 6,000+ fells and counting. Sculptor Clive Barnard recounts his experience of working with AW on the bronze bust now resident in Kendal Museum, remembering the 'big, amiable bear' with a commercially savvy mind who made "awful" cups of tea. In thickening clag, we meet Chris and Lorena Linke from Florida, who fell in love with long distance walking, after completing AW's Coast to Coast Walk, and discuss the under-acknowledged community created by the C2C, life lessons taught by through-walks, and the unique storytelling artistry of the Guides. Arriving at our pilgrimage end-point of Innominate Tarn, we pay our respects to former Westmorland Gazette print manager Andrew Nicholl – one of the unsung heroes of the AW story, who did so much for the ex-fellwanderer, his book sales and his profile. Beside the hallowed 'gravely shore' of the misty tarn, Chris and his wife Priscilla reflect on Andrew's legacy, and the poignant 'guard of honour' final trip he made onto Haystacks to say farewell to his old friend. Happy New Year to all, from Mark and Dave! Chris's extensive archive of articles about AW's books and memorabilia can be found at alfredwainwright.co.uk/ Anna Nolan's books about fell-bagging and walking in the Lakes can be found at bookguild.co.uk/our-authors/anna-nolan Richard Jennings has created The Lakeland Way – a 144 mile walk through the valleys and mountain passes of the Lake District. See here for more. Inspired by the Coast to Coast Walk, Chris and Lorena Linke made a film about the Herriot Way. The story behind it can be found at alfredwainwright.co.uk/the-herriot-way/ The film of Andrew Nichol's journey to Innominate Tarn can be found at youtube.com/watch?v=UpLVp20qIJE&t=330s Chris Jesty's beautiful summit panoramas can be enjoyed here: viewfinderpanoramas.org/panoramas/ChrisJestyPanoramas.html With many thanks to Chris for making the day and recording happen. Holy Indignation, Hanukkah, and Cleansing the Temple of Your Heart | KIB 509 Kingdom Intelligence Briefing Description In this episode of the Kingdom Intelligence Briefing, Dr. Michael and Mary Lou Lake share a timely word about holy indignation, the Feast of Dedication (Hanukkah), and the urgent need to cleanse the temple of our hearts in these perilous last days. Mary Lou begins by sharing what she continues to see in prayer—a mushroom cloud and the possibility of suitcase nuclear devices slipped into America through open borders. Rather than yielding to fear, the Lakes call the remnant to focused intercession, asking God to expose and thwart every hidden plot and scheme of the enemy. From there, Mary Lou walks through the story of the Maccabees, their guerrilla warfare tactics, and their divinely inspired strategies that turned weakness into strength. The Lakes connect this to our own call to stand against Mystery Babylon, fight spiritual battles with God-given wisdom, and cleanse the temple of compromise in our lives. Dr. Lake then unpacks the biblical and prophetic meaning of Hanukkah, the desecration and rededication of the temple, and the way this foreshadows the abomination of desolation and the rise of the Antichrist. He also addresses biblical dietary laws, the temple of the Holy Spirit, and how Mystery Babylon uses "strange fire" and unclean practices to defile believers. The heart of this episode is a powerful teaching on holy indignation—what it is, what it is not, and how it differs from carnal anger and internet "bickering." Using examples like Moses, Phineas, Nehemiah, Jesus cleansing the Temple, Paul, David and Goliath, Elijah, and Samson, Dr. Lake shows how Spirit-led indignation is rooted in God's holiness, love, and covenant faithfulness—not personal ego or offense. Mary Lou then shares from her own journey of healing as a survivor of severe trauma and programming, encouraging those who feel too broken or disqualified that Jesus can cleanse, heal, and reclaim every part of the temple. She models how to stand in your God-given authority, reject what the enemy programmed, and insist that every part of your being belongs to Jesus alone. The episode closes with a call for the remnant to walk in the fear of the LORD, as described in Malachi 3:16–18, allowing God to write our conversations and responses in His book of remembrance and to mark us as His treasured possession in the days ahead. If you've been beat down by your past, wounded by what calls itself "the church," or confused by the anger and division you see online, this message will help you discern between fleshly outrage and true holy indignation that burns away apathy, compromise, and tolerance of sin.

People say there's no way Sasquatch could exist in the Land Between the Lakes. They say it's too populated. Too well-traveled. Too thoroughly explored by hunters and hikers and campers over the decades.I disagree.  And after you hear this encounter story, I'm confident you'll agree with me. In November of nineteen eighty-four, a father took his fourteen-year-old son into the backcountry of the Land Between the Lakes for a deer hunting trip. It was supposed to be a bonding experience. A chance for the boy to take his first buck. A weekend of camping and hunting in a remote stretch of wilderness that most visitors never see. What they encountered out there changed both of them forever. It started with strange sounds. Heavy footsteps in the darkness. Rocks thrown from unseen hands. Then came the screaming. Inhuman vocalizations that echoed through the forest from multiple directions at once. Wood knocks that circled their camp throughout the night. The unmistakable signs of something intelligent, something powerful, something that wanted them to know they weren't alone. On the final morning, the boy made a clean shot on a beautiful ten-point buck. But before he could reach his kill, something emerged from the undergrowth. Something massive. Something that walked on two legs and stood over eight feet tall. Something that looked at him with eyes that held unmistakable intelligence. And then it took his deer. The father passed away in March of twenty twenty-four. Now his son is the only living witness to what happened during that terrifying weekend forty years ago. He made a promise to his father in that hospital room. A promise to finally tell the full story. This is that story. One hundred and seventy thousand acres of uninterrupted forest. Two hunters who ventured too deep into the backcountry. And the creatures that let them leave alive. Some places in this world belong to something other than us. The Land Between the Lakes might be one of them.

Bigfoot KillersIn a secretive US military company of 110 elite special forces soldiers—divided into 10 teams of riflemen, snipers, and K9 units—formed under President Lyndon B. Johnson in the 1960s following the Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot film, the narrator details a half-century of hunting North America's deadliest cryptids. Evolving from Project Blue Book researchers to hardened operators after confirming the threats of "things that go bump in the night," the unit conducts covert missions across the continental US (and occasionally abroad) to eliminate hostiles like Bigfoot, Dogmen, and even extraterrestrials while rescuing civilians. Supported by on-site scientists and advanced IT/satellite guidance, they've eliminated over 200 Bigfoots and several Dogmen in the past two decades, often capturing specimens alive for transport to undisclosed sites. Key missions highlight the perils:Texas Ranch Raid: A full-company op targeted an injured rogue male Bigfoot slaughtering cattle; snipers downed it effortlessly, revealing a broken leg likely from trauma, before airlifting the carcass.New Mexico Grey Encounter: Responding to harassment of an official, the team cornered a elusive, mind-manipulating Grey alien on secluded land. Firearms failed against its elastic, cartilaginous body; hand-to-hand combat with knives finally severed its head, bagging the hairless, putty-like corpse for extraction—the narrator's most dreaded foe.Michigan Dogman Hunt (2018): All units mobilized after a high-ranking officer's relative was eviscerated, uncovering two more hunter victims. Guided by IT to funnel the demonic-seeming, near-unstoppable beast into a kill zone, the team unleashed overwhelming firepower, defying orders to capture it alive.Kentucky-Indiana Bigfoot Jamboree (2020): Amid a missing boy in Land Between the Lakes and sightings near Mammoth Cave (where some escaped underground), nine more Bigfoots were herded via IT to a wildlife area. The unit orchestrated inter-group battles, using claymores and gunfire to eliminate most, pursuing a lone escapee into Shawnee National Forest over three days. The narrator shares cryptid insights: Bigfoots form protective family groups (harmless unless provoked), but rogue male packs pose the greatest threat, exhibiting tree-climbing agility, human influence, and brutal kills (e.g., impaling a hunter 20 feet up, blamed on a "tree stand fall"). Juveniles occasionally abduct children out of curiosity, while injured elders turn predatory. Dogmen, by contrast, evoke supernatural dread with their resilience and savagery. As the company faces deployment to Europe—amid rumors of new threats—the soldier pens this from a library during weekend leave, reaffirming his oath to defend against domestic and foreign horrors. He vows to share European tales if he returns intact.Join my Supporters Club for $4.99 per month for exclusive stories:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/what-if-it-s-true-podcast--5445587/support
