In this episode, we continue our deep dive with retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke—a man whose job wasn't just catching spies but recruiting them. Dreeke led the FBI's elite Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program, where he mastered the art of predicting human behavior. He turned foreign operatives into informants—not with force, but with trust. Now, he's sharing the same tools that can help you avoid fraud, betrayal, and toxic relationships in everyday life. In part one, we peeled back the curtain on his high-stakes career in counter espionage against Russian operatives in the United States. Now, in part two, Dreeke reveals how you can learn to think like an FBI behavioral analyst. How to see the red flags before they wave. How to spot manipulation before it wraps around your life. And how to use behavior patterns—what he calls “behavior arcs”—to make better decisions about who you can trust. If you've ever been lied to, blindsided, or left asking how did I not see that coming?—this episode is for you. Dreeke is the author of “Sizing People Up”, a book I recommend every listener study and underline. His short guide, “It's Not All About Me”, offers a crash course in building rapport in any situation. Let's get into it—here's part two of my conversation with Robin Dreeke.

The Book Of Romans Part 15 — It's Not All About Me — 07.16.23 by One Life Church
This week we're diving into the two sides of the topic of influence. Surprisingly, there are two very different schools of thought on the best way to influence someone. But which style is more effective? What are the pros and cons of each of them? In order to get to the bottom of this debate, we brought in some incredible experts to make their cases on the topic. First, we'll dig into the light side of the force of influence. You'll hear from Robin Dreeke. Robin began his career in law enforcement in 1997 after serving in the United States Marine Corp. Robin has directed the behavior analysis program of a federal law enforcement agency and has received training and operational experience in social psychology and the science of relationship management. Robin is currently an agent of the FBI and the author of “It's Not All About “Me”, The Code of Trust and the newly released Sizing People Up. Then, representing the dark side of influence you'll hear from Chase Hughes, Chase Hughes is the founder of Ellipsis Behavior Laboratories and the amazon bestselling author of The Ellipsis Manual. Chase previously served in the US Navy as part of the correctional and prisoner management departments. Chase speaks on a variety of topics including brainwashing and attraction and frequently develops new programs for the US Government and members of anti-human-trafficking teams around the world. Both of these experts have INCREDIBLE backgrounds and some amazing stories as well. In the end, how you use these incredible powers is up to you. I had a great conversation with a former FBI Special Agent and Head of Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program (RET) who spent 21+ years of working counterintelligence. I was intrigued on what he had learned about reading people. What I was not prepared for was his relentless flywheel of learning that he has developed to become a better person and leader. The tools he developed are used to achieve self-mastery in observation, communication, and execution from a foundation of humility and transparency, whether it is with your perceived enemy, an employee, or a friend. Robin Dreeke spent 21 years in the FBI before starting The People Formula and authoring a number of books on leadership and trust including It's Not All About “Me”, The Code of Trust, and his latest, Sizing People Up. As you can imagine, you can't help but immerse yourself in his world and come out a better person as a result. Enjoy the conversation.

Sizing People Up: A Veteran FBI Agent's User Manual for Behavior Prediction by Robin Dreeke Click here for the show notes https://www.salesartillery.com/marketing-book-podcast/sizing-people-up-robin-dreeke A former FBI agent shares his simple but powerful toolkit for assessing who you can trust - and who you can't. After two decades as a behavior analyst in the FBI, Robin Dreeke knows a thing or two about sizing people up. He's navigated complex situations that range from handling Russian spies to navigating the internal politics at the Bureau. Through that experience, he was forced to develop a knack for reading people - their intentions, their capabilities, their desires and their fears. Dreeke's first book, It's Not All About "Me", has become a cult favorite with audiences seeking to build quick rapport with others. His last book, The Code of Trust, was about how to inspire trust in others as a leader. In Sizing People Up, Dreeke shares his simple, six-step system that helps you predict anyone's future behavior based on their words, goals, patterns of action, and the situation at hand. Predicting the behavior of others is an urgent need for anyone whose work involves relationships with others, whether it's leading an organization, collaborating with a teammate, or closing a sale. But predictability is not as simple as good and evil, or truth and fiction. Allies might make a promise with every intention of keeping it, not realizing that they will be unable to do so due to some personal shortcoming. And those seeking to thwart your endeavor may not realize how reliable their malevolent tells have become. Dreeke's system is simple, but powerful. For instance, a colleague might have a strong moral code, but do they believe your relationship will be long-term? Even the most upstanding person can betray your trust if they don't see themselves tied to you or your desired result in the long term. How can you determine whether someone has both the skill and will to do what they've said they're going to do? Behaviors as subtle as how they take notes will reveal their reliability. Using this book as their manual, listeners will be able to quickly and easily determine who they can trust and who they can't; who is likely to deliver on promises and who will disappoint; and when a person is vested in your success vs. when they are actively plotting your demise. With this knowledge they can confidently embark on anything from a business venture to a romantic relationship to a covert operation without the stress of the unknown.
In SIZING PEOPLE UP, Dreeke shares his simple, six-step system to help predict anyone’s behavior based on their words, goals, patterns of action, and the situation at hand. For instance, a colleague might have a strong moral code, but do they believe your relationship will be long-term? Even the most upstanding person can betray your trust if they don’t see themselves tied to you or your desired result in the long term. Robin Dreeke entered federal law enforcement in 1997 after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy and serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He received advanced training and operational experience in social psychology and in the practical applications of the science of relationship development. Eventually he rose to direct the behavioral analysis program at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Dreeke recently retired as an agent of the FBI. He is the author of It’s Not All About “Me” and The Code of Trust. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/steve-richards/support

Robin began his career in law enforcement in 1997 after serving in the United States Marine Corp. Robin has directed the behavior analysis program of a federal law enforcement agency and has received training and operational experience in social psychology and the science of relationship management. Robin is currently an agent of the FBI and the author of “It’s Not All About “Me”” and the upcoming book The Code of Trust. How Robin went from being a hard charging type-a individual to learning the principles of actually inspiring people and changing behavior Robin’s main job was to recruit spies How manipulating, pressuring, bullying people doesn’t work - and why learning that lessons in counter-intelligence is one of the most powerful places to learn the lesson The Art Form of Inspirating Anyone and Getting them to do what you want The New Car Effect - and what that has to do with influencing and inspiring anyone "Strategizing Trust" - the five steps of trust How the old conception of leadership is flawed and ineffective How being hard charging, type-a, and in your face is backwards from what you need to be successful How the crucible of counter-intelligence doesn’t afford you the luxury of making mistakes - and the strategies that come out of that for influencing others When people don’t have to talk to you and don’t care about your title and position - you have to find the strategies that work The vital importance of self awareness and honest self assessment What you think you’re projecting to the world is often not what the world is seeing How ego, vanity, and insecurities can hijack what you say and do Listen to the people around you, take feedback, and learn how you can change How strategies of inspiration and influence focus almost exclusively on the other person Focus on other people, what their priorities are, and what’s important to them - that’s how you can change their behavior and influence them Why should someone want to talk to you, listen to you, and do what you want? Think in terms of inspiring other people, not manipulating them How seeking other people's thoughts and opinions can help you neurobiologically build trust with them Leaders don’t keep scorecards. Give and let go. And wait. When you honor the healthy and happy relationships - everything falls into place and flows very easily How to get someone’s brain to reward them for engaging with you Honesty is one of the critical factors Why you shouldn’t convince, cajole, and manipulate people How the FBI spy recruits hacked evolutionary psychology to learn to change anyone’s behavior How the use of lies and deception can destroy trust forever It cost nothing to make it about other people and its one of the simplest strategies in the world - and can have a huge impact on your ability to influence and inspire Become an available resource for other people Learn more about your ad choices.
