In this episode, Jared Lloyd and Annalise Kaylor talk shop after spending 10 days on boats photographing in Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska. Kenai Fjords is one of the most dynamic landscapes on Earth and plays home to an extraordinary diversity of wildlife from marine mammals to pelagic seabirds. The PhotoWILD crew timed their expedition to the edge of the world for the peak of the orca migration. Following huge schools of chinook salmon, each day was filled with countless orca sightings in addition to humpback whales, Stellar sea lions, harbor seals on icebergs, sea otters, three species of puffin, and so much more.  Key Takeaways Photographing from little boats in a big ocean can be challenging and how to overcome those challenges There really is no such thing as bad light, only our lack of knowledge of how best to exploit that light When the photography gods throw you lemons, make high key images Ice drives the entire ecosystem here Mastering Light book discussed in show: https://www.photowildmagazine.com/mastering-light Want to join us in Kenai Fjords next year? https://www.jaredlloyd.com/wildlife-of-kenai-fjords-photography-workshop

Two Parties Of Capitalist Imperialists: Notes From The Edge Of The Narrative Matrix

They don't just call Democrats "communists" and "Marxists" in order to attack Democrats, they do it to disappear the entire giant expanse of political spectrum that exists to the left of the capitalist imperialist Democratic Party. They want you to think that's as far left as it gets. Democrats refer to themselves as "the left" for the same reason. Both mainstream factions work to shrink the Overton window into a tug-o-war between Republican capitalist imperialists and Democrat capitalist imperialists. Between two opposing factions of neoliberal neocons. Reading by Tim Foley.

Political False Dichotomies: Notes From The Edge Of The Narrative Matrix

You may vote and debate freely on any issue which does not affect the functioning of the empire. When it comes to how money, weapons and resources move around the world, however, you suddenly find that your votes don't matter and your position has no mainstream representation. They'll let you argue until you're blue in the face over whether or not you can have an abortion or whether minorities should have civil rights; they'll even let you vote on it. But things like military expansionism and neoliberal globalization and deregulation are off limits. The empire relies on false political dichotomies like Democrats vs Republicans to keep everyone fighting over issues which don't affect the functioning of the empire so the machine can trudge onward uninterrupted by the local riff raff. That is the entire job of those parties.  The mainstream media exist to keep everyone spellbound by those false dichotomies on the level of discourse and debate. They manufacture culture wars which split the populace in half over an issue which doesn't affect the empire, then continually feed into that debate. The Bernie/AOC/TYT "populist left" and the Trump/Tucker Carlson "populist right" factions are there to lure parts of the population who get a little too curious about the raw mechanisms of empire back into the political false dichotomy so they stop asking unauthorized questions. The entire political/media class exists for this purpose: not to help people, not to fight for civil rights, not to create a well-informed populace so that democracy can function, but to keep the grubby little mitts of the unwashed masses far away from the true levers of power. That's their whole entire function. Reading by Tim Foley.

Kayfabe Populism: Notes From The Edge Of The Narrative Matrix

Going Rogue With Caitlin Johnstone

It's so important that the public have no real say in US politics that the empire not only set up two oligarchic puppet parties which pretend to oppose each other, but also set up fake populist movements within each of those factions which pretend to be fighting the establishment within those parties. It's a very clever illusion that sucks up almost all real opposition. If you don't fall for the first kayfabe conflict and realize the game is rigged for the powerful, you can still end up buying into the fake populist movements set up to oppose them. I fell for them both early on in this commentary gig. But after a while of watching what they do (as opposed to just listening to what they say) and seeing where they actually stand and fight or refuse to fight, you see it's all an Inception-level fakery. The opposition is controlled, and so is the opposition to the opposition.  It's like when you dream you're waking up from a dream but you're actually in another dream; you awaken from the liberals-vs-conservatives puppet show and then turn to the fake progressive Democrats or the bullshit MAGA camp as a solution, but you're still asleep. This all sounds like an awful lot of work to go through until you remember that an entire globe-spanning empire depends on the ability to prevent the American public from either (A) voting in a disruptive government or (B) fighting a revolution. So much power rides on their ability to do this. Reading by Tim Foley.

Public approval of the Israeli apartheid regime, like approval of the US police, has plummeted in direct proportion to the ubiquitousness of video cameras. People say "This is not a proxy war! How dare you call this a proxy war?" Pouring billions of dollars worth of weaponry into a foreign nation to be used by CIA-trained fighters with the direct ongoing assistance of US military intelligence is in fact the exact thing that a proxy war is. That is what those words mean. If the Ukraine war is not a proxy war, then there has never been a proxy war. Reading by Tim Foley.

The Awesome Power Of US Propaganda: Notes From The Edge Of The Narrative Matrix

Sometimes I can only stop and stare in awe at the power of the US propaganda machine. Almost the entire global north has been paced into perfect alignment with cold war agendas geared toward securing US unipolar dominance by an unprecedented propaganda and censorship campaign. There's nothing intrinsic in Russia's invasion of Ukraine which says the nation must be strangled to death by unheard-of levels of economic warfare from Washington-loyal governments. A huge international consensus needed to be manufactured for that specific response, and the public needed to go along with it. Just absolutely incredible. By securing control of global narratives via Silicon Valley, Hollywood, and plutocratic "news" outlets, the US empire has effectively supplanted the UN and international law in its ability to get whole groups of nations moving in a certain way with the consent of the governed. The human species is being led around like a dog on a leash by a collective mind control system of unparalleled and unprecedented sophistication that hardly anyone even notices. Imperial propaganda is the single most overlooked and underappreciated aspect of our society. Reading by Tim Foley.

Let's Re-Learn The Word 'Detente': Notes From The Edge Of The Narrative Matrix

Going Rogue With Caitlin Johnstone

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 10, 2022 5:33

The word "detente" has been deliberately scrubbed from the western lexicon. This has created a false dichotomy where everyone thinks the only choices are either escalate until we have a nuclear war or "OMG SO JUST GIVE PUTIN WHATEVER HE WANTS AND LET HIM TAKE OVER EUROPE???" Any time you oppose freakish world-threatening escalations that's the response you always get: "So just give into the bully and let him have everything?? That's appeasement!" They're sincerely unaware that there's a third choice between World War 3 and crowning Putin Emperor of Planet Earth. This is by design, because detente and US unipolar hegemony are mutually exclusive. You can't dominate the entire planet and also let Russia be its own nation; it's either one or the other. Detente was a popular concept back when we lived in a multipolar world, during the USSR, but since it's been dominated by one single superpower that word has been phased out of public awareness. Now that US unipolar hegemony is the normalized mainstream consensus ideal within the western empire, any talk of working toward peaceful solutions that don't subjugate one power to the other show up before indoctrinated minds as outrageous heresy. It Takes A Touch Of Madness- Notes From The Edge Of The Narrative Matrix

It takes a touch of madness to take seriously the possibility that your entire society is insane. That's why devoted critics of the oligarchic empire are often a bit odd; something in them was driven to wade into waters that most people aren't psychologically prepared to enter. It's not that questioning the status quo is madness; just the opposite: it's that "Maybe everything I've been taught is a lie and everyone I know is wrong and all the information I'm getting is designed to serve the powerful?" isn't the sort of question you tend to ask when everything's going your way. If you had a happy idyllic childhood where mummy and daddy loved you very much and have lived a life where things generally go okay for you, you'll likely be psychologically stable, but you're a lot less likely to go "Hey wait a minute—maybe all of this is bullshit!" That type of insight tends to fall to those who are just a hair off-kilter. So here's to all you heroic lunatics, waking the world up one pair of eyelids at a time. The smileyface gear-turners might scoff at you right now, but the world needs you, not them. Reading by Tim Foley.

Breaking down the barriers of the blues while churning up a style and sound of their own, Matthew D and Random Tuesday create a solid mixture of rocking, original, pop based blues. Along with innovative cover material, they are blazing the modern road from the delta. Blues is a state of mind. Despite a blues emphasis wrapped in a pop package, their set of music makes it transparently clear just how grounded these tunes are in rock, country, jazz, hip-hop and gospel. This musical eclecticism is the canvas that allows Matt?s musical soul come up for air. Matt?s abilities as a composer, guitarist, singer, producer and band leader span a broad spectrum indeed, but the foothold of Mathew D and Random Tuesday is still fully ensconced with their unique stamp on the blues. Their all original debut album, ?NOTES FROM THE EDGE?, (produced, recorded, and written by Matt) is a passion filled, radio friendly, no holds barred production. From the beginning hook of the first track, ?Ain?t Man Enough?; to the heart felt, country inspired ?Here Come Those Tears?, to the jazz flavored, ?Shadows Of Love?, to the final track, there is something here for every one.
