If there's a central inquiry to the Waking Youth podcast it's this: How might we consciously initiate ourselves—as individuals and as a species–into the next stage of our evolution? Turn our ecological emergency, our polycrisis, into an opportunity for global transformation?Daniel Pinchbeck has dedicated his life and career to living this question.Author of Breaking Open the Head, 2012 The Return of Quetzalcoatl, How Soon Is Now, and more recently, the Substack newsletter Liminal News, Daniel's work explores consciousness, politics, mysticism, and social change. He has spent decades not just writing about change, but actively seeking it through projects like the Evolver Network, The Elevator's Substack, and online courses on the ecological emergency. In this episode, we unpack Daniel's story of becoming—from his early days as a child of the Beat Generation in New York, to his awakening into a more mystical paradigm. We talk about writing as a tool for transformation, how to catalyze social and environmental shifts, the war between the genders, and the connection between non-normative relational models (like polyamory) and social healing.Last but not least, we listen to Daniel's words of wisdom for the younger generations, coming of age in this pivotal evolutionary moment.Enjoy!References:* TAZ: The Temporary Autonomous Zone* Techno-Feudalism: What Killed Capitalism* Why Materialism is Baloney* Morphogenetic Fields, Rupert Sheldrake* Manifesto for the Noosphere* The Myth of Male Power* The Red Pill* The Outrage Machine* Sexual Personae* Existential Kink* Eros Unredeemed* The Case Against the Sexual Revolution* Internet for the PeopleCredits:* Music Audio Producer & Editor: Carlos Sierra* Producer, Writer & Host: Carlota Guedes To hear more, visit www.wakingyouth.org

In this conversation, Dr. Samuel B. Lee interviews Daniel Pinchbeck, a world-renowned author and spiritual mystic, about his book 'The Return of Quetzalcoatl' and the merging of spirit and matter. Pinchbeck discusses his experiences with psychedelic substances and their potential to expand consciousness. He also shares a prophecy he received from the deity Quetzalcoatl, which predicts the end of time and the unveiling of hidden truths. The conversation touches on the therapeutic potential of psychedelics, particularly MDMA, and the challenges faced in gaining FDA approval for MDMA-assisted psychotherapy. Pinchbeck expresses concerns about the ecological crisis and the rise of right-wing movements, highlighting the need for global cooperation and borderless societies. The conversation explores the potential of psychedelics to lead to compassionate and empathic systems thinking. It also discusses the concern that the psychedelic movement has become too self-focused and entrepreneurial. The conversation touches on the future of human consciousness, the impact of technology on the human brain, and the dangers of merging AI with the human brain. The importance of returning to a balance with nature and embracing a multi-dimensional organic reality is emphasized. The concept of love is discussed as universal compassion and caring for everyone and everything.Story Notes:Exploring the Merging of Spirit and MatterPsychedelics and the Expansion of ConsciousnessThe Prophecy of Quetzalcoatl and the End of TimeThe Therapeutic Potential of MDMAChallenges in FDA Approval for MDMA-Assisted PsychotherapyConcerns about the Ecological Crisis and Right-Wing MovementsPsychedelics and Compassionate Systems ThinkingConcerns of the Psychedelic MovementThe Future of Human ConsciousnessThe Impact of Technology on the Human BrainWant to experience calm presence and clarity within 5 minutes?Check out the Focus Blend by Practical Peptideshttps://www.practicalpeptides.com/products/focus-blenduse code:  DRLEE for 10% offThe best 1 day GI/Parasite/Liver cleanz -it fucking works.  https://zencleanz.com/?ref=SAMUELLEE5% discount code:  DRLEEACTIVATE YOUR INNER CHRIST/12 STRAND DNA ACTIVATION PROGRAM(Utilize the original celestial human language Anuhazi to rapidly activate your inner Christos)https://www.transcendencementalhealth.com/course75% discount code: INJOYDo you feel called to experience the multi-dimensional wisdom, unconditional love, and safety of your own soul?Introducing The Heart Protocol:  a revolutionary ceremonial experience that can help you catalyze your highest timeline:To find out more visit:www.transcendencementalhealth.com and click begin your journey to book your free 15 minute call to see if this is calling you.#Psychedelics #ConsciousnessExpansion #MDMATherapy #QuetzalcoatlProphecy #FutureOfHumanity #SpiritualAwakening #AIAndConsciousness #EcologicalCrisis #SystemsThinking #HumanConsciousness #PsychedelicHealing #MDMAFDAApproval #CompassionateLeadership

I attended Sophia's psychedelic psundsay psermon recently, on an actual Sunday in an actual church, in Asheville, NC. She may be an anthropologist, but she is no anthro-apologist, for this talk regarded “inter-species dialogues & plant consciousness.” & so we met up later that week to talk tardigrades, Jericho roses & the death & resurrection of words. To ponder prayer, spin recursive meme-o-spheres, encounter scary English angels in the polyglot-o-sphere & stand in “Uhhh” before the “awefullsome” in the realm of the sphere-its. We exchanged notes about what she calls “stacked spirit science” & we honored the ANTcestors with fancy-antsy words like “stigmergy” & “formication”. Even though all things that look/sound similar are connected, we managed to tell Huni Kuin from Loony Toons & Shipibo-Conibo from Evil-Knievel. We traced the riverine roots of the milk-mustached Drunk Monkey People's circuitous designs back to the anaconda choirs of their creation myth (scales for days). We sat, as if in ceremony, w the riddle of sickness & the serpent's place in amazonian&Asclepius' lore. Snake oil or serpent medicine? We weighed the value of dream-tending vs. analysis & as we wondered how to concoct a cure for loneliness I remembered the psycho-magical Dream Theatre I used to facilitate, where we would often transcend Joseph Conrad's maxim “we live as we dream—alone.” &just as Sophia & I considered questions that refuse to be answered & answers that refuse to be questioned, our pod-cast spell was interrupted by a phone-call from our friend comedian Shane Mauss. He hosted the talk show Mind Shift on Gaia TV and was featured in the 2010 documentary, 2012: Time for Change. He is the director of Liminal.news, an online course platform, and publishes a regular newsletter, Danielpinchbeck.substack.com . In this conversation, Daniel and I explored the fascinating topic of Secret Histories and Spiritual Revolutions, why we need magic right now, and how our relationship to myth can reawaken our imaginative and intuitive faculties. The quote we mentioned: “What if at the higher levels of meaning consciousness is like a hyperspace in which each point is equidistant from the other and where ‘the center is everywhere and the circumference is nowhere? … The mythologies of the occult seem like baroque music: there is an overall similar quality of sound and movement, but, upon examination, each piece of music is unique; Vivaldi and Scarlatti are similar and different.” - William Irwin Thompson, Passages About Earth I'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment below. What you'll learn from this episode: Even as someone who spends a lot of time contemplating the importance of magic, it impacted me deeply hearing Daniel share about how Western esoteric knowledge in particular is largely missing in today's world We, as a culture, have ridiculed and denied the truth and power of magic and esoteric knowledge, and there's something very healing in reclaiming it I loved what Daniel said about how our relationship to myth can reawaken our imaginative and intuitive faculties. Humans live and think mythologically, that we are scientific and logical just isn't true, the more we can make our mythical nature conscious, the more we can engage with myths in a generative and opening way Resources and stuff that we spoke about: The article that inspired this conversation Daniel's Official Newsletter: Liminal News Daniel's Website: theliminalinstitute   Thank you for listening! Daniel Pinchbeck is the New York Times bestselling author of Breaking Open the Head, 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl, How Soon Is Now, and When Plants Dream (with Sophia Roklhin). He hosted the talk show Mind Shift on Gaia TV and was featured in the 2010 documentary, 2012: Time for Change. He has written for many publications including The New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, Wired, Dazed & Confused, Purple, and ArtForum. He is the director of Liminal.news, an online course platform, and publishes a regular newsletter, Danielpinchbeck.substack.com . In this conversation, Daniel and I explored the fascinating topic of DMT, (N, N-Dimethyltryptamine) also known as the Spirit Molecule. We covered what DMT is, its history and research that's been done about it, and how Daniel sees its role in human consciousness and the challenges of the world today. I'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment below.   What you'll learn from this episode: Daniel described the two schools of thought around the use of psychedelics, one ceremonial and one purely focused on their medical use, given the wider benefits of modern humans reclaiming our connection to nature and to the ancient practice of ceremony and ritual, if you're listening to this show then you don't need to choose between those options - you can have both! I loved what Daniel said about the ways that different spiritual traditions have practices such as darkness immersion and meditation that open humans to the kinds of experiences that taking DMT can create... ultimately all of these practices appear to be giving us an experience of reality beyond that of our ordinary human consciousness There's a renaissance in the use of DMT in its various forms happening now and we're discovering uses and benefits in all kinds of fields - as Daniel said, this could be akin to the period in which we discovered electricity and how to harness it Resources and stuff that we spoke about Daniel's Official Newsletter   Thank you for listening! There's fresh episode each week, if you subscribe then you'll get each new episode delivered to your phone every Thursday (that way you'll never miss an episode): Thank you! Lian & Jonathan

Philosopher and author Daniel Pinchbeck, who co-founded the Evolver Social Movement and featured in the documentary 2012: Time for Change joined Giancarlo to discuss the limit of scientific reductionist materialism to understand the nature of reality. Daniel currently has a seminar titled Crossing the Threshold: Realms of Consciousness beyond Physical Death. This explores arguments for and against any kind of afterlife. He notes in our episode, how you are unable to explore the concept of continuing consciousness unless you have interrogated scientific materialism. This is a productive idea that consciousness is just an expression of physical matter like the complexity of the brain, and corresponds with many mystical and shamanic traditions. Daniel goes on to explain; it still feels like we're trying to break out of the obstruction of reductive materialism, we need to get to an understanding that we're participating in larger cycles, this too is also good evidence for reincarnation, etc. This then begins to shift our whole way of understanding ourselves. And actually leads to changes in our structures, in society, education, and, technology and so on. Daniel delves into a wide range of topics with Giancarlo including the ‘beautiful' uncertainty caused by COVID, the riots, and Trump. Professor Cristopher Bache's vision for the future. The importance of regenerative media. Neo shamanic mystery schools. Psychedelics, Blockchain, transitional justice, students' futures plus much more.

Cryptocurrencies, NFTs, Dows, and the blockchain they ride on are still, in the view of many, the decentralized financial instruments of the future. Even if they never replace the fiat currencies of nations, their roles in markets are here to stay. And crypto, like everything else, has become politicized. You would think that an asset class that is almost pure speculation and not even about owning anything would be immune from the primal forces of partisanship. But no, both the left and the libertarian right have very different views of what crypto and its sister products on the blockchain and Web 3.0 should be. Few have been harder than the left, who sees in it some kind of pure evil of the market. The good news is that when my guest — author, thinker, and all-around wiseman — Daniel Pinchbeck talks about the politics of crypto, he also helps us to understand what it really is, why it matters and why to the folks on all political sides it should matter in the future. Daniel Pinchbeck has long been considered a Renaissance man and ahead of his time. He's the author of the books Breaking Open the Head, The Return to Quetzalcoatl, Notes from the Edge of Time, How Soon is Now, and When Plants Dream. He saw around corners long before many others with respect to our ecological crisis and was a one-time executive director of the Center for Planetary Culture. His essays and articles have appeared in every major publication. He's spoken at conferences around the world and had his work featured in a 2010 documentary. This episode consists of two separate riverside ramblers with a similar topic: Where have we been as a collective, where are we now and where are we going. The first clip starts with the present, life here in Japan during COVID-19, the moronic response to COVID before broadening out to a discussion of the author Daniel Pinchbeck and his question: did 2012 happen? I then speak about the many cycles of time, using astrology and secular understanding such as Strauss/Howe's generational theory and how using both we could say that our current 80-year cycle has us in late winter and then I speak some about the astrological cycles of next several years, how the short-term forecast is very intense. And finally, I talk briefly about the Jupiter/Saturn cycle and I ponder how we can prepare for spring. In the second clip, I speak about the upcoming year of 2022, a year of disillusionment, grace, delusion, miracles, overdoses, death, power being exposed and possible redemption. I base much of this talk on the astrological cycles of 2022 and I bore down a bit on the details, offering a few specific predictions. I base these thoughts on listening to/watching/reading probably 20 hours of astrology media, several other forecasts from a more secular perspective, and my own understanding of current events. And at the end, I offer a few suggestions on how to personally navigate what I expect is going to be an intense ride but I'll reward those of you who read these intros the key word: Simplify! Inspired by friends, family, and people like Daniel Pinchbeck, who have been so critical of spirituality, I mount a full-throated defense of spirituality, first acknowledging the pitfalls and shortcomings. Spirituality for me is a holistic worldview and set of practices that make us more relevant and impactful in the world, instead of more escapist and checked-out. Authentic spirituality is becoming a spiritual scientist, making us more discerning, not more out-of-touch. Furthermore, true change cannot come about in the world without first expanding consciousness through spiritual practice. Finally, spirituality offers a nurturing cosmology that imbues our lives with deeper meaning. Daniel Pinchbeck articles mentioned in this episode: Bat Soup  Is the Pursuit of Truth Worth it? Here's my blog post about morphic fields.
