My guest this week is Dr. Louise Goldsmith, a urologist and aspiring IBCLC from North London. Louise successfully breastfed her first daughter but was taken aback when that previous history didn't protect her from a crisis of confidence second time around.Carrie's feeding style was very different to Paloma's, which surprised Louise and her husband, and they feared she was not receiving enough milk. But after a weigh-in confirmed that she had in fact gained weight since birth, things started to get on track. At six months, Carrie is now successfully breastfeeding, and her older daughter, Paloma has got in on the act, returning to breastfeeding after a year of being weaned. Louise is now tandem feeding both daughters. My new picture book on how breastfeeding journeys end, The Story of Jessie's Milkies, is available from Amazon here -  The Story of Jessie's Milkies. She's back! My dear friend Eleana returns to IN THE KNOW WITH KO — and this time, with baby number two in her arms (well, sort of... she was in the final stretch of pregnancy during our convo, and now her baby girl is 4 months old!). We dive into what it looks like to prepare for a holistic birth experience, how to reach peak emotional and physical health, and the beautiful (and sometimes wild) ride of choosing your own path when it comes to labor and delivery. We chat about how we first met in such a fun, full-circle way — renting her and her husband's house — and how that led to both friendship and launching businesses side by side. From mommy moments to mindset shifts, we talk about being more equipped this time around, leaning on our community of mom friends, knowing when to ask for help (and actually accept it), and truly surrendering to the journey of pregnancy. This episode is full of heart, laughter, and some real talk about tuning into your body, honoring your spirit, and embracing the fact that there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to childbirth. Whether it's your first baby or your fourth, we hope this encourages you to do what's best for YOU and YOUR family — and appreciate the magic of a supportive partner along the way.

Surrounding yourself with a supportive community of like-minded individuals can propel you toward your goals. By sharing your journey and connecting with others heading in the same direction, you create an environment of accountability, motivation, and mutual growth.QUOTES: [7:50] “It's possible to decide what we want to have happen and then figure out what those things are. So, for me, it's getting to the gym every day while traveling, and especially when there's holiday parties every day, it's finding that movement and making sure I get my water in every day. It‘s all those little things.” Jenn Trepeck[11:00] “I put into my schedule something that I know either friends, or health-minded colleagues, will surround me. So I am building in that accountability a little bit to myself, knowing that I want to feel well but still celebrate.” Shannon[19:58] “If you're starving when you get there, you'll make poor choices, not because you don't have any willpower, but because your hormones are taking over. So, if you come feeling satisfied, you will have more control over your food than your food controlling you.” Jessica[23:56] “We don't have to wait for the new year to reward ourselves. Maybe it's buying ourselves a gift. Maybe it's having downtime. Do we want to get tickets to a concert or a show or go to the spa or find, maybe get a massage?” Jenn Trepeck[31:11]” Muscle dictates metabolism, as we always say. It's not just losing weight; it's removing fat and building muscle to improve our overall health.” Jenn Trepeck[37:38] “I'm celebrating the win daily and not getting discouraged or focusing too far ahead because I can easily just say ‘I'll do that tomorrow'.” Shannon[43:06] “The Healthy Vibe Tribe is a great opportunity to get that support, be around people going in the same direction as you and get the education part. THIS IS REVOLUTION >podcast

Lula da Silva's return to office in Brazil marks a critical attempt to undo the conservative rollback of his party's previous progressive reforms. Under Michel Temer and Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil saw an erosion of social programs, environmental protections, and Indigenous rights that the Workers' Party (PT) had championed in the 2000s. Lula's reinstatement of programs like *Bolsa Família*, designed to address food insecurity for over 33 million Brazilians, and his commitment to halting environmental destruction in the Amazon are core components of his platform. However, the Brazil Lula governs today is far different than the one he left in 2010.   The ideological landscape, both domestically and globally, has shifted dramatically. After Dilma Rousseff's ouster, Brazil became more polarized, with Bolsonaro's right-wing populism galvanizing large swaths of the electorate through nationalist and anti-left rhetoric. This new political environment reflects broader global trends: a backlash against what is often derisively called "wokeness" or "globalism." Right-wing populists, sovereigntists, and national-conservatives have risen in opposition to the neoliberal policies of the past few decades, creating a more fractured political order.   Our guest today, Alex, argues that this shift mirrors larger geopolitical tensions that he terms the "new Cold War." In an upcoming essay, he draws upon thinkers like Frederic Jameson and Slavoj Žižek to examine how these cultural and ideological battles are unfolding. As Alex writes:   "A succession of 'cultural logics' have been identified since Frederic Jameson first wrote about postmodernism as the logic of late capitalism in 1984. In 1997, Slavoj Žižek discoursed about multiculturalism as the cultural logic of multinational capitalism. And if you were so inclined, you could write essays arguing that the past decade has seen wokeness emerge as the cultural logic of late neoliberalism."   This notion of "wokeness" — encompassing progressive values, neoliberal economics, and the curtailment of freedoms by corporate and political interests — serves as the ideological backdrop for much of today's political polarization. Alex posits that unlike the original Cold War, which was a genuine ideological clash between capitalism and socialism, this "new Cold War" is less about systems of governance and more about capitalist competition dressed in thin ideological coatings. Whether framed as "authoritarianism versus democracy" or "stability versus chaos," the deeper struggle appears to be between nationalist forces that reject the perceived excesses of globalization and neoliberalism, and a fragmented liberal order grappling with its own contradictions.   In Brazil, Lula faces these challenges head-on. His efforts to restore progressive policies and repair the damage done by Bolsonaro are emblematic of a broader struggle against right-wing populism and anti-globalist sentiment. How Lula navigates this new political terrain will be a crucial test of whether left-wing governance can effectively counter the growing influence of right-populism and restore faith in a more egalitarian, internationalist approach to governance.   We discuss Lula da Silva's return to office in Brazil as part of a broader global context where progressive reforms face significant pushback and political landscapes have shifted. After graduating from San Francisco State University, majoring in Mass Communications with an emphasis in broadcast media and writing for television, Asoniti relocated to Los Angeles and held several positions in the entertainment industry. Success was indeed the reward, as she quickly moved up the ladder to eventually write a couple of episodes on Will and Jada Pinkett Smiths' hit sitcom, “All of Us”. She also worked on a number of other sitcoms, including, One on One”, starring Flex Alexander and Kyla Pratt, “Second Time Around” starring Nicole Ari Parker and Boris Kojo, and “Just Jordan” a Nickelodeon show. After the writer's strike, Asoniti began independently developing and filming various projects. While honing her skills in creating, developing, and producing, a new passion blossomed in her life, care for Alzheimer's patients. When both her grandmothers passed from the condition, she educated herself about it and planned to be proactive to an ignored class of patients. What she discovered was surprising and saw an opportunity to share her found information. With very little, to no material about why African American women are twice as likely to have the disease she knew it would be fitting to develop a documentary about it. So, she did, and it is titled, “Puzzled”. PUZZLED is an Alzheimer's awareness documentary that will focus on why women are more like to have AD and why African American women are twice as likely to have it than the national average. And this would only be accomplished working alongside her daughter. As a producer on the documentary, SONI FOSTER-JACKSON is a pre-teen, sassy, smart, socializer, currently enjoying school and extracurricular activities: art, skateboarding, dance, and music – playing the French horn. Although her career goal is to become a veterinarian, she is multi-talented in production and post-production with an eye for creative edits and attractive content. Her voice plays a vital role in the project providing Alzheimer's awareness from a youthful point of view.   Simma Lieberman, The Inclusionist helps leaders create inclusive cultures.
