LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! The Governor's freeze is ending only to place new restrictions on Lane County that have nothing to do with how COVID is transmitted in this community and will have dire consequences for businesses, yet the UO stays open where 1/4 of our cases originate. Our board is continuing to move forward with a floodplain ordinance that will cause problems for Holiday Farm fire victims despite my best efforts to dissuade Chair Buch. We also got a report on how the LCSO uses surplus military equipment to prevent the need to make deadly force decisions like EPD had to make in Whiteaker this week. Election integrity is still a large issue and one of the basics is setting fair district boundaries for elected representation and we talked about the future of that process today. Oh, and the Governor's proposed budget includes $146 million to finally fix the employment department's antique COBOL computer system. All topics are fair game so give me a call! LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! Last Thursday was the 50th anniversary of Exploding Whale Day! We can also discuss the national election as it is not over yet. All topics are fair game so give me a call! The Boze Noze Show is live at 4:00 pm Pacific on Wednesdays. LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! On Veteran's Day I will tell the story of Lynwood Davenport, WWII veteran and my father-in-law who I was just visiting last month in Kentucky. I will also probably talk about Floodplain code and the Holiday Farm Fire as it took up a large part of the commissioner's meeting yesterday. I will also talk about COVID's resurgence and maybe even a little about election transparency. All topics are fair game so give me a call! The Boze Noze Show is live at 4:00 pm Pacific on Wednesdays. I"M BAAAACK! LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! First show in three weeks so a lot to cover including the election but I don't know about you but I am really tired of hearing about it. So let's talk about the 4 new deputy positions we funded or how we are trying to help folks rebuild after the Holiday Farm fire. We could also talk about the results of our survey on drivers of health outcomes in Lane County that showed the number one concern is affordable housing and that over 90% of people believe the situation is getting worse. We can still talk elections if you want as all topics are fair game so give me a call! The Boze Noze Show is live at 4:00 pm Pacific on Wednesdays. LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! We will be talking about floodplain and COVID today. Yesterday's Board meeting was a little heated...I just want to do everything I can to make it as easy and cheap as possible for folks to rebuild their homes after the Holiday Farm Fire but my desire to do so is somehow unprofessional. We also did not go back to Phase One shut downs yesterday but we do need to take personal responsibility to slow the spread of COVID in Lane County. All topics are fair game so give me a call! LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! Bill Lundun from the Wake Up Call on AM1120 KPNW will be my guest today. Bill is an unsung hero of the wildfire events keeping us all informed factually when rumors were running amok on social media. We will talk about what it is like to cover a multi-day breaking news story and some of the information he has uncovered about property taxes that might be helpful for those that have had fire losses. The conversation may also cover bacon and single malts. In case you have not been paying attention, we are also experiencing another surge in COVID-19 cases here in Lane County. LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! Holy smoke it has been a week of hazardous air quality but the end of the bad air is supposed to be tomorrow with some rain forecast but we have been hearing "tomorrow will be better" for a week now. The good part of the inversion and calm winds is that it suppresses fire behavior and the minimal resource we have to fight this fire have been able stop further progress into neighborhoods. We have even been able to lower some of the evacuation levels to allow folks back into their homes. The big fire in Lane County along the McKenzie River valley, now called the Holiday Farm Fire, is now at 167,400 acres and eight percent contained and the Red Cross has 890 people housed in 12 hotels with a new shelter opened this morning at Churchill High Schoo so nobody should be sleeping in their car. Lane County has opened a Multi-Agency Resource Center for those displaced by the fire as a one stop shop for connecting to services and information. Our first report on structures from the survey team reports over 300 as a total loss and they are not done yet. At least there has been only one confirmed death which is amazing for such a fast spreading fire. If you don't want to talk about these topics or if you do, give me a call! LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! I am changing plans and moving the interview with Scott to a later date so we can cover the fire situation here in Oregon. The one in 100-year east wind event unfortunately lived up to the warnings and is causing tragedy on a scale we have not seen here in Oregon since the 1930's. The big fire in Lane County along the McKenzie River valley is now at 104,000 acres and zero percent contained and over 3,000 homes have been evacuated. Stories are starting to come in of nearly the entire town of Blue River being lost and other homes and businesses destroyed. Worse yet, the fire moved so fast that officials believe there was loss of life but have been unable to access the areas to confirm any. Cell phone towers were burned so communication is near impossible in the steep hilly terrain. Fire fighting resources are stretched so thin as to be almost non-existent compared to the size of the fires. Air quality in our area is off the scale unhealthy but i fell fortunate that is the only problem I am personally facing. The only good news is that the weather forecast is calling for diminishing winds over the next several days and air quality is supposed to improve by Thursday evening. If you don't want to talk about these topics or if you do, give me a call! The Boze Noze Show is live at 4:00 pm Pacific on Wednesdays. LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! It must be the end times because Fire, Disease, and Floods have dominated my week. Friday afternoon I was startled out of my pre-weekend stupor by a call letting me know multiple fires were burning in the Fern Ridge area, one just a mile north of my house! Fortunately, due to the great work of multiple agencies, all four fires that afternoon were controlled and put out. That led to Sunday's multiple fires near Mapleton. Now there is a suspect in custody for those fires. I can't say enough good things about our local fire departments, ODF's crews, and Lane County's Public Works and Sheriff's staff. So to follow that up the Board had to extend the local public health emergency declaration for COVID, mostly to be able to react to our state government ever-changing requirements for getting CARES Act funds that should have just been passed through to us like Portland. Then we worked on our Floodplain and Floodway code update that should mostly have been about making it comply with changes in the FEMA flood insurance program and some tightening of loopholes and standards to improve safety. That got derailed by the Progressive majority on the Board and now it has become a re-write to try and control all development along streams...this seems a lot like the attempt in 2010 to put a 200-foot buffer along all waterways in the county. If you don't want to talk about these topics or if you do, give me a call! The Boze Noze Show is live at 4:00 pm Pacific on Wednesdays. LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! Should Lane County change names or just re-dedicate and change Lanes? The Governor threw counties under the bus for not doing enough to control COVID while she hung on to our federal CARES Act COVID Relief Funds. Starve us of resources then lay the blame on counties for your crazed desire to shut down our economy even further. (Did you know today is the last day to sign the recall petition?) The rest of the Board also voted to transfer part of the Fairgrounds for housing for families yards from a concert venue and midway. We are now at 90-days of riots and counting in Portland and some kind of national conventions have been happening. Let's talk about it all, just give me a call! LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! To quote Sen. Betsy Johnson, "Most people think PGE stands for Portland Gets Everything!" The emergency Board of the legislature had the opportunity to fix the inequity in COVID Relief Funds distribution that has Portland getting $174/person upfront with few strings compared to the $27/person Lane County has been promised in reimbursement with multiple strings attached. Thank you Senator Johnson for your No vote on diverting our funds to purchase PPE "on our behalf". I wish I could say the same for the local delegation on the E-Board but Sen. Manning, Sen. Roblan and Rep. Holvey all voted to divert local funds to state coffers and allow PGE to continue. Meanwhile the Board was focused on institutional racism and had a general listening session in which we got three, yes 3, people testifying to us. Is this really a big issue or is it an excuse for mass protest and unrest in an election year, or maybe our Board leadership did a poor job of communication? It did lead to a discussion about Racial and Ethnic Disparities (RED) in our justice system, Critical Race Theory and Equity vs. Equality. Let's talk about it all, just give me a call! LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! Is it time for another convoy to Salem? The Governor and the Legislative leadership are allowing a massive inequity to develop between Portland and the rest of the state in how CARES Act COVID Relief Funds (CRF) are distributed to local governments. Local governments over 500,000 including Portland and Washington County received upfront over $170/resident. Smaller jurisdictions outside of Portlandia have been promised between $60-80/resident via reimbursement not upfront funding and with much more restrictive rules on how the funds could be spent. On top of that, the protests are now requiring the Oregon State Police to keep 100 officers of there total force of less than 800 in Portland draining law enforcement from the rural areas of the rest of the state. Governor Brown is angry that she could not get government union school employees to the head of the line for unemployment benefits while her hapless bureaucracy still has not been able to get benefits to folks that she put out of work through executive orders six months ago. Let's talk about it all, just give me a call! The Boze Noze Show is live at 4:00 pm Pacific on Wednesdays. LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! Back from a weekend trip to the redwoods in the COVID Capsule also known as our Airstream.I spent some time catching up on social media and I have a rant about folks that don't fact check before sharing. Protests in Portland continue and get ready for a possible reaction to the grand jury decision on the motorist who hit a Black Unity leader to be announced right before show time. There has been a lot of talk about mail in elections and I have some insights into why the New York congressional elections went awry and why folks are worried about November. We are also prepping for another special session of the legislature, will it be about the budget like it should be or will they try to do policy outside the regular sessions? LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! Another weekend of violence and destruction in downtown Eugene. This time the mob showed their intent to intimidate others into not speaking out about lawlessness with their targeted attack on Elkhorn Brewery. I am challenging all local elected officials to denounce the tactics used by the mob and show support of the business owner's free speech rights. We also got an update on our homeless situation last night and our new homeless czar has decided to completely re-write the strategies that come from a national consultant in the TAC report. Guess what is now being called for and which direction the price tag went. Councilor Zelenka is already talking about a tax levy to pay for it. Let's talk about it all, just give me a call! Moderate Fire Danger (Blue) season is upon us. These are minimum required precautions, you have a "respoNei billy" to prevent wildfires. LIVE TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! It is fire season and Jay is struggling with autocorrect. The Board approved a one year rollover contract extension with our largest bargaining unit, AFSCME general and also our AFSCME Nurses unit. It included a 1% increase for all members for the cost of living. Our Board Chair, Heather Buch, voted against approval even though the bargaining units voted to approve them because she felt we should give them bigger increases with YOUR TAX DOLLARS! What do you think is fair during period of double digit unemployment and millions of still employed workers taking pay and hours cuts? We also talked about how to keep the homeless safe this winter while preventing the spread of COVID. And then there is Portland...Let's talk about it all, just give me a call! LIVE Wednesday @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! The Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to pass a resolution in support of Black Lives Matter. I will explain why I made the motion and why people need to understand the movement. At the same meeting we had a public hearing on our budget and someone must have sent out a mass email to young BLM supporters to testify that we, the Lane County Board, should cut the budget for the Eugene police department by 30% to fund CAHOOTS. LIVE! TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! What a great #TimberUnity Rally in Salem! I will have a full report. Monday I spent the day in Salem at the Association of Oregon Counties legislative meetings. In that meeting, Chair Buch showed just how much she is in the pocket of AFSCME. That evening I attended a Veneta City Council work session on a proposal to share the cost of adding a School Resource Officer to the Fern Ridge School District. At our Board meeting yesterday we heard from the City of Cottage Grove about how they are removing barriers to housing and the Board approved their request to offer tax incentives to stimulate even more construction. Our Board also discussed housing but Commissioner Sorenson seems focused on taxing folks and using the money internally to build housing, something I do not support. I again reminded the Board that we are not getting our fair share of revenue from federal forests and we should reconsider our membership in the only organization lobbying for increasing federal timber harvest and funding from our O&C Railroad Lands to help provide funding for rural Sheriff's patrol and housing efforts
LIVE! TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! Getting ready to roll tomorrow to the #TimberUnity Rally in Salem. Before that at yesterday's meeting, Chair Buch and her new progressive board majority voted against the interest of her rural district three times yesterday. First, she voted against the rural folks that wanted to save our Fairgrounds chopping a piece of the property with no public hearings and despite an alternate site being available. Then Chair Buch voted to support acknowledging a UN driven Declaration of Human Rights and Climate Change that if followed would give soil rights enabling frivolous lawsuits against farmers and foresters and endorses forcible redistribution of wealth by government. Finally, when I asked the Board to reconsider our membership in the only organization lobbying for increasing federal timber harvest and funding from our O&C Railroad Lands to help provide funding for rural Sheriff's patrol, Chair Buch refused to support my request. We will also talk about the latest on the Cap, Tax and Spend Bill I am going up to protest tomorrow. You can add to this list of topics just by calling in!
LIVE! TODAY @ 4:00 pm Pacific It's the Boze Noze Show! So much to talk about! My fellow Board members are about to carve off a piece of the Fairgrounds for an incompatible use that could endanger the future of the entire Lane Events Center. I will have a lot to say about this and the complete lack of public process in this decision. School districts are surprised that the new corporate sales tax is increasing their costs! [Show Notes Link]Direct Download Link | | Direct download link This is raw, unscripted, no music, and as real life as it gets. The first podcast since getting married, Don Deeley is in town to share his thoughts and experiences about being in Vancouver for a week, attending our wedding, and being the DJ/MC at our reception. After a night of a little alcohol and some hockey, we sat down at our dinning room table to chat a little. Listen to it all, fast forward the slow parts, or just wait for the next episode when it comes out. We’re tired, silly, having fun, and exhausted from the events from the past weekend. That’s life!
