One of the biggest NFL off-season storylines is the contract negotiations coming from the reigning NFC Champions in San Francisco and if their star WR Brandon Aiyuk, former first round pick, will still be a 49er heading into 2024 season. Since the week after the Super Bowl, his contract has been a hot topic with constant media coverage, rumors, and social media buzz. Adding fuel to the fire, there are speculations that Aiyuk might reunite with his former ASU teammate and close friend Quarterback Jayden Daniels at the Washington Commanders… And the Pivot in partnership with Fanatics uncovers the truth and cuts through the noise.  In today's episode, sitting with the source himself, Ryan, Channing and Fred have a conversation with Brandon Aiyuk around what's true, what's not and ask the looming question- will a new deal be done before training camp ? Or does Aiyuk have his sights set on a short list of NFL teams he feels he can be the X factor on. Brandon explains the why behind the viral face time post of him and his long-time friend Jayden Daniels and why he's taking these contract negotiations personal while sharing his true priorities and mindset as he discusses what he believes he's worth, the significance of the big dollar-signs and how he handles the pressures of these high-stakes discussions under the public eye. With an unsettling sentiment and signs of discourse between the San Francisco organization and Aiyuk since the Super Bowl loss in Feb, Brandon is setting the record straight about his emotions around the loss against the Chiefs and sharing his true thoughts in his voice without any misconstrues.  Aiyuk gives us his perspective on the state of the league, being the next domino to fall in the contract pool of wide receivers and sharing insights on quarterback Brock Purdy, his teammates and how much talent is on this 49er roster, full understanding the grass may not be greener elsewhere but he's not closing the door on reuniting with his friend and former teammate Daniels in Washington or dabbling with other teams, ofcourse with the Steelers being one Ryan hopes is on the list.   Growing up in a 49ers fan home, Aiyuk has deep love for the team but also has openness to new opportunities. Tune in for an unfiltered conversation that delves into the heart of Brandon Aiyuk's current journey, his aspirations, and the roller coaster side of professional football negotiations. Monique currently works as the Managing Director for the Center for Art and Public Exchange (CAPE) at the Mississippi Museum of Art (MMA) and also serves at the Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer. CAPE is a Kellogg funded initiative that uses artwork, exhibitions,  engagement with artists, and programming as a vehicle to have conversations about race and equity.  Monique is responsible for creating brave spaces  that expand visitor's perspectives and reveal our shared humanity.  Monique is deeply committed to the belief that art has the power to transform and inform us. Monique is a CPA, and a graduate of Howard University.  Prior to her tenure at the Museum, Monique served as the Senior Program Manager for Parents for Public Schools of Jackson.  Her primary responsibility was teaching parents how to be effective advocates for their children.  This was accomplished by creating workshops that helped parents navigate bureaucratic, and often dehumanizing systems. Her career has been a winding path that has resulted in her owning and operating a restaurant, advocating for homeless veterans at the federal level, and creating safe spaces for nursing mothers.

In this conversation Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer at the Center for Art  and Public Exchange at the Mississippi Museum of Art Monique Davis and I discuss how art can be used to build bridges in our communities as well as be used as a tool to dismantle White Supremacy. When Whiteness is the yardstick by which all is measured it takes a reckoning to establish a new way of measuring what is good, fair, considered to be success, and beauty. Monique and I talk about looking at art through a new lens, a lens that doesn't immediately center European art.We also talk about how to engage the local community in events that are designed to bring awareness to the inequities that exist in our world while encouraging conversations that begin to bridge the divides between us.Mississippi may seem like an unlikely place for this to be happening but listen to Monique and you may decide that it's the perfect place and a great model for conversations in other venues, maybe even one in your city or town. For a written transcript of this episode click here.

Cotton, we’re told, is the fabric of our lives. But what does that look like for contemporary Mississippians, at a time in history when most are removed from the agricultural realities of the cotton field? How does cotton’s global history of social stratification still infiltrate our lives? How do modern folks alter the conversation by claiming the cotton tee as a democratic vehicle for personal voice and identity? The Center for Art & Public Exchange at the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson decided to tackle these questions in a recent program in their Re:frame series. We gathered local podcasters and the public inside the galleries of White Gold: Thomas Sayre, an immersive 2000 square foot exhibition by artist Thomas Sayre that meditates on the complexities of a southern cotton field. This discussion was held in conjunction with national tee shirt day and alongside a pop up exhibition of cotton tees by local designers. We looked at art together, we created a platform for a wide range of voices, and we recorded it. The Center for Art & Public Exchange – CAPE for short – is an initiative of the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson, supported by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. CAPE’s purpose is to use original artworks, exhibitions, programs, and engagements with artists to increase understanding and inspire new narratives in contemporary Mississippi.
