Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend!   I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks…   Michelle: Hi Dr. Cabral! Thank you for ALL that you do! During the summer I hardly use my sauna because I'm sweating most days between early morning runs (super humid here), trail maintenance, trail runs, afternoon walks, etc. I'm sure I'm missing out on other benefits of using the sauna, however? Should I still be incorporating a 20-30 minute sauna 4-5 days per week?       Jackie: My husband has mcas, and has full body itch/flush triggered by temperature change, loud stimulus and is hyper sensitive to smell/light. We tried histpro and vitamin C and it made his symptoms much worse by day 3 we stopped after day 5 and it took about a week to go back to his baseline. Any thoughts as to what happened? He Wants to do 21 day detox but really struggles to keep weight on as it is staying above 9% bf is a challenge . For context eats auto immune paleo,no alcohol and strength training is light to moderate 4 days /week.for over a decade. If you had to estimate what % of the benefit that comes from a 21 day detox is attributed to the 2 day fast and reduced calories?       Trish: Good morning! QQ on women's health post-menopausal. Somewhat intimate question listeners for small children. Your opinion please on using a low dosage of women's estrogen vaginal cream to help keep the vagina tissues from thinning etc.. Thank you in advance. You are an amazing human being and are so appreciated for all you do to help us with longevity and aging gracefully.       Richard: Hi Dr. Cabral, my question is on the origins of AYU medicine, I hope thats ok. I have always been fascinated with our ancient history & am wondering which civilization came up with AYU medicine. Was it the Indus Valley Civilization? You mention the system is at least 6k years old but the earliest dates of the IVC I can find are around 3300BC. Its widely accepted that Sumer was the earliest civilization which started around 4000BC but that was in Mesopotamia and not modern day India. The dates don't add up. I believe you 100% I just want to know more info on this & Im wondering if this is a case of manipulating history by the archeology industry. I have listened to podcasts with Graham Hancock & many others talking about our ancient history. They reveal convincing evidence that modern archeology is intentionally covering up certain structures, incorrectly dating them & fabricating info about civilizations. When I tried researching AYU many sources claim that its pseudoscience. Would love to hear your thoughts on all this, the truth about the origins of AYU and in what language were the texts written in 6000 years ago. Thank you!!       Erin: Hi! This has been happening randomly for years & no dr has solved it. I go to sleep easily but I will wake up feeling awful & it's usually around 12:30-1am. Armpits sweating, muscles crampy, heart rate is so fast, stomach looks 6 months pregnant. I will eat something, drink and once i can start burping the heart rate slows back down and i start feeling better. I have noticed it happening more when it's really hot and humid out and certain molds are high. I have also noticed it happening when I eat around 1500 calories. I am a female and macros say i should be at 2,000-2200 for my activity level. Would this difference in calories cause this? I am wanting to loose some weight and it has been impossible due to this. My gut says adrenals but why did this start happening? So frustrated     Thank you for tuning into this weekend's Cabral HouseCalls and be sure to check back tomorrow for our Mindset & Motivation Monday show to get your week started off right!   - - - Show Notes and Resources: StephenCabral.com/3831 - - - Get a FREE Copy of Dr. Cabral's Book: The Rain Barrel Effect - - - Join the Community & Get Your Questions Answered: CabralSupportGroup.com - - - Dr. Cabral's Most Popular At-Home Lab Tests: > Complete Minerals & Metals Test (Test for mineral imbalances & heavy metal toxicity) - - - > Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test (Test for 75 biomarkers including yeast & bacterial gut overgrowth, as well as vitamin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test (Discover your complete thyroid, adrenal, hormone, vitamin D & insulin levels) - - - > Complete Food Sensitivity Test (Find out your hidden food sensitivities) - - - > Complete Omega-3 & Inflammation Test (Discover your levels of inflammation related to your omega-6 to omega-3 levels) - - - Get Your Question Answered On An Upcoming HouseCall: StephenCabral.com/askcabral - - - Would You Take 30 Seconds To Rate & Review The Cabral Concept? You probably think of a sauna as somewhere to relax, recover after exercise, or simply warm up on a cold day. However, scientists have discovered that just 30 minutes in a sauna may temporarily change the way your immune system behaves. New research published in the journal Temperature found that just one single sauna session caused every major type of white blood cell to increase in the bloodstream. These are the cells that help defend you against infections, clear away damaged cells and coordinate your body's immune response. Most of the time, many of these cells aren't constantly travelling around your body. Instead, they wait in places like your bone marrow, spleen and lymph nodes until they're needed. You can think of them like emergency services. You don't keep every police officer, firefighter and ambulance driving around every street all day. Most are stationed at their bases, ready to respond when something happens. But every now and then, it can be useful to have more of them out on patrol. That's essentially what the researchers think happened during the sauna. The heat appeared to temporarily send more immune cells into circulation, giving them the opportunity to move through the body looking for signs of infection, damaged tissue or anything else that doesn't belong. Scientists call this immune surveillance. In the experiments the researchers recruited 51 adults with an average age of 50. Each volunteer spent 15 minutes in a traditional Finnish sauna heated to around 73°C, cooled off with a two-minute shower, then returned to the sauna for another 15 minutes. Blood samples were taken before the sauna, immediately afterwards and again 30 minutes later, allowing the researchers to watch how the immune system responded in real time. Blood tests revealed that every major type of white blood cell increased immediately after the sauna. Neutrophils, the body's first responders to infection, and lymphocytes, which help recognise and destroy infected cells, both surged into the bloodstream before returning to their usual levels about 30 minutes later. That suggests these cells weren't being created from scratch. Instead, they were temporarily moving out of their storage sites and into circulation before returning home again. The scientists also measured 37 different cytokines, the chemical messenger molecules that immune cells use to communicate with one another. Surprisingly, despite the dramatic movement of white blood cells, very few of these signalling molecules changed. The researchers think this means the immediate response to a sauna is driven more by moving immune cells around the body than by switching the immune system into a highly inflammatory state. While the study didn't go on to look at whether people who regularly took saunas had a stronger immune system, it does show that your immune system isn't sitting still while you're relaxing, but instead is working harder than ever. They discuss the beautiful weather, the importance of maintaining enough bench space, the soul of the original Larsmont sauna, and the delicate balance between commerce and "kumbaya." Most of all, they reflect on the community that forms when people gather around good heat, cold water, and a shared appreciation for authentic sauna culture. You'll also hear stories from the benches, the shoreline, the Lake Room, and the spaces between sauna rounds—where strangers quickly become friends and conversations move well beyond sauna. Full show notes: https://bengreenfieldlife.com/saunapodcast In this episode with Luke Chapman and Owen Buchanan, founders of Western Sol, you'll hear the story behind the custom sauna I recently had built in my backyard in Idaho, and the story behind the company itself, which started when a mold exposure in Hawaii sent Luke into daily sauna use. You'll gain insights into the actual science of heat shock proteins and dynorphins (the opioid peptides your body releases under heat stress), why most sauna wood is loaded with VOCs, and how thermally pressed aspen and spruce sourced from Estonia solves that problem entirely. We'll also touch on how Western Sol engineers oxygen-rich air recirculation, Himalayan salt therapy, and even full electrical grounding directly into the sauna floor, and you'll get a full walkthrough of what it costs to get a custom or prefabricated sauna built. Luke Chapman and Owen Buchanan are the founders of Western Sol, a custom and prefabricated sauna company based in Idaho. In Episode 135 of Sauna Talk, Glenn Auerbach welcomes psychotherapist Sierra Blake for a live conversation recorded at Sauna Days 2026 on the shores of Lake Superior. Sierra brings a graduate background in mental health psychology from the University of Minnesota, along with clinical experience working in trauma and addiction medicine. Her work explores the relationship between mind and body, including the potential psychological effects of sauna and cold-water immersion. This conversation moves beyond the usual discussion of what heat does to the body and asks a bigger question: What can shared sauna experiences do for our relationships, our communities, and our sense of belonging? Sierra explains how heat and cold create manageable stress, followed by a calming nervous-system response that may support openness, awareness, and connection. She also shares emerging research suggesting that the benefits of communal sauna may come not only from the heat itself, but from ritual, emotional synchrony, shared challenge, and the feeling of belonging to something larger than ourselves. Glenn, Sierra, and the Sauna Days audience explore: • The connection between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems • Sauna, cold water, and the mind-body relationship • Why shared challenge can bring people closer together • The difference between routine and ritual • Sauna as a generator of "loose ties" and everyday community connection • The role of mindfulness, meaning, and intention in sauna practice • Sauna as a third space outside of home and work • The potential for sauna to become part of a healthier social infrastructure • Why there may be no single "best" way to sauna Across cultures, sauna and bathing traditions have long served as places for healing, reflection, storytelling, and community. This episode offers a thoughtful look at why sauna's deepest value may lie not only in what happens inside the body, but in what happens between people. Recorded live at Sauna Days in May 2026. Discipline Drives Longevity PodcastFIVE PRIMARY POINTS of the PODCAST* Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Training Builds Muscle with Less Joint Stress* Low-load, high-repetition resistance exercise combined with blood flow restriction can produce muscle growth comparable to traditional heavy lifting while using only about 20–30% of maximal weight.* BFR may be particularly valuable for older adults, injured athletes, and people with joint pain because it minimizes stress on the joints while preserving or increasing muscle mass. Emerging evidence also suggests it increases brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein linked to brain health.* Regular Sauna Use May Be a Powerful Vitality Enhancer* Frequent sauna bathing is associated with substantially lower risks of cardiovascular disease and dementia, while also lowering blood pressure, improving vascular function, and enhancing immune cell activity.* Heat therapy may also reduce muscle loss during periods of immobilization, making it a promising non-pharmacologic strategy for healthy aging.* Cold Exposure Improves Resilience and Metabolic Health* Cold exposure acts as a controlled stressor that reduces inflammation, decreases oxidative stress, activates metabolically beneficial brown fat, and improves autonomic nervous system function.* Regular cold showers or ice baths may enhance recovery, improve stress resilience, and support long-term cardiovascular and metabolic health when practiced appropriately.* Maintaining an Ideal Weight Is Essential for Long-Term Vitality* Excess body weight increases the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis, and cancer.* The podcast emphasizes a simple principle: eat less and eat less often. Intermittent fasting can be an effective, low-cost strategy for weight management and may provide additional benefits for brain, liver, gut, and metabolic health, although total calorie reduction remains the primary driver of weight loss.* Environmental Stressors Can Complement Exercise for Better Health* Heat, cold, and BFR training represent forms of “environmental training” that challenge the body in ways conventional exercise alone cannot.* The overarching message is that strategically applying these evidence-based stressors—along with maintaining a healthy weight—can improve physical vitality, preserve muscle, enhance cognitive health, and ultimately support better performance and healthier aging.Copyright VyVerse, LLC. Near-Infrared Light Therapy & EMF Shielding with SaunaSpace Founder Brian Richards Your mitochondria are starving for a nutrient you've probably never tracked, and it's not a vitamin or a macro. This episode reveals how a forgotten 1910 therapy uses light to physically restructure water inside your cells, unlocking a mechanism for healing, detox, and mitochondria repair that most of biohacking has completely overlooked. Go to https://sauna.space/ and use code ‘Dave' for a 15% discount! Host Dave Asprey sits down with Brian Richards, founder of SaunaSpace and a leading voice in incandescent light therapy and infrared sauna engineering. With a background in chemistry and organic synthesis, Brian spent over a decade building a science-backed alternative to LED-based light therapy rooted in full-spectrum incandescent light and deep radiant heat. After healing his own insomnia, adrenal fatigue, and brain fog through light and heat exposure, he developed the FireLight Spectrum, a technology engineered to restore what modern lighting strips away. Dave and Brian trace incandescent light therapy back to Dr. John Harvey Kellogg's 1910 book on light therapeutics, and explain why the same institutional forces that suppressed chiropractic care and natural medicine buried this practice for over a century. They break down how near-infrared light penetrates the body to charge water into a more bioavailable state, boost glutathione and melatonin production, and repolarize cellular voltage for better metabolism and longevity. The conversation also covers why blue light from LEDs devastates hormones, testosterone, and fertility, how EMF exposure silently drains human performance, and why grounding and Faraday shielding matter more than most supplements on the market. You'll Learn: Why near-infrared light functions as an essential nutrient your body cannot make without it How light physically restructures water to improve mitochondria function and cellular energy The suppressed history of Dr. Kellogg's incandescent light therapy and why it disappeared How blue light exposure crashes testosterone and disrupts fertility and hormone regulation Why EMF shielding and grounding are critical, overlooked tools for longevity and recovery How to use infrared light like a daily supplement instead of an occasional treatment Why carnivore-adjacent, nutrient-dense eating pairs naturally with light and heat therapy Thank you to our sponsors! - ELITE Performance Coaching | If you'd like to discover where you may be addicted to struggle, allergic to success, and what may be standing between you and your next breakthrough, visit FastestChange.com - Longevity Farms | Go to getlongevityfarms.shop. Former NHL forward and Rockford IceHogs assistant coach Rob Klinkhammer joins Adam Lane to break down how a late-blooming junior turned himself into a 15-year pro through strength training, nutrition, and lifestyle discipline. Episode SummaryIn this Happy Healthy Strong x Oak Performance Radio crossover, Adam Lane sits down with former NHLer and current Rockford IceHogs assistant coach Rob Klinkhammer to discuss what truly drives long-term development. Rob walks through how he went from an average junior player who almost quit at 19 to carving out a 15-year pro career by tightening up his training, dialing in his food, and stripping out distractions. From there, they connect the dots to parenting and coaching: how those same principles now shape the way Rob develops AHL prospects for the Chicago Blackhawks and raises four boys to be active, resilient, and healthy for life. If you're a parent, coach, or athlete who wants real talk on performance, family, and health, this conversation lines up perfectly with the Happy Healthy Strong philosophy.Key TakeawaysWhy Rob's entire career shifted when he stopped “going through the motions” and fully committed to training, nutrition, and sleep at age 19–20.How AHL coaches actually think about player development, roles, and what it takes to make the jump to the NHL.Why fundamentals in both hockey skills and strength training beat flashy “Instagram drills” every time. How to safely introduce strength training to kids without chasing max weights or wrecking their bodies. How Rob and his wife structure breakfast, dinners, snacks, and on-the-go eating for four active boys. Why recovery, mobility, and injury prevention (hips, knees, shoulders, ankles) are non-negotiable for hockey players. How tools like sauna, cold exposure, and even manual labor fit into a bigger picture of resilience and long-term health.Rob's parenting lens: focus on building the best human possible, not “raising an NHLer,” and let performance be a byproduct.Episode Chapters00:00 Intro & show setup00:33 Rob's background & late-bloomer story02:18 From player to pro coach05:05 What pro players need from coaches07:13 Structure vs skills at the AHL level10:07 Roles, projection, and making the NHL13:06 Junior hockey, injury, almost quitting16:20 The year everything changed (training & lifestyle)19:38 Strength, power, and in-season work22:22 Overtraining and real-world conditioning27:01 Youth hockey and off-ice basics31:21 Fundamentals vs Instagram drills33:57 Free play, movement, and athletics38:33 How Rob's family actually eats43:16 Breakfast, snacks, and labels48:58 Being intentional, not obsessive51:46 Sauna, cold, and recovery at home56:47 Parenting four boys & expectationsAbout the GuestRob Klinkhammer is a former professional hockey player turned coach, with a 15-year career that spans the NHL, AHL, and KHL, plus an appearance at the Olympics. USA Sauna Celebration: Reflections on Good Heat, American Ingenuity and the Spirit of Freedom | Sauna Talk Episode 134

USA Sauna Celebration: Reflections on Good Heat, American Ingenuity, and the Spirit of Freedom For this special July 4 edition of Sauna Talk, Glenn reflects from island cabin country near the Superior National Forest in northeast Minnesota, looking out across open water and thinking about sauna in America: where it came from, what it means today, and the people helping carry the flame forward. As the United States celebrates 250 years since its founding, this episode gathers excerpts from several of Glenn's favorite Sauna Talk conversations with American sauna personalities and sauna-adjacent voices. Together, they form a tribute to the deep and growing sauna culture in the United States — a culture shaped by Finnish immigrants, small-town manufacturers, researchers, builders, bathers, and longtime sauna nuts who understand that good heat knows no borders. We begin with Bruce Oreck from Episode 72, former United States Ambassador to Finland, who shares how Finland corrected his American misunderstanding of sauna and introduced him to the deeper rhythm of good heat. From smoke saunas to the Finnish Sauna Society, Bruce reminds us that America could use not just more hot rooms, but more sauna culture: rounds, cool downs, conversation, patience, humility, and time together on the bench. Next, we hear from three American sauna stove makers as featured in Sauna Talk Episode 120. Their conversation brings us to the heart of the sauna: the stove. These are small-town American manufacturers building durable heat sources close to home, with family history, shop-floor knowledge, local jobs, and real accountability behind every stove. In a world where so much is distant and disposable, their work speaks to craftsmanship, simplicity, and American ingenuity. From there, the episode moves into sauna science with Dr. Ashley Mason, associate professor at the University of California, San Francisco. Ashley studies whole body hyperthermia, sleep, depression, body temperature, and the effects of heat on the body and mind. While she is careful to distinguish traditional sauna from the controlled heating practices used in her lab, her research helps explain something many sauna bathers already feel: heat changes us. It brings us out of the narrow band of climate-controlled modern life and back into a more dynamic relationship with the body. This conversation with Dr. Mason can be heard in entirety in Sauna Talk Episode 102. Finally, from Episode 123, Glenn turns to Mikkel Aaland, author of Sweat and one of the great connectors in global sweat bathing culture. Mikkel offers a wider lens on what makes bathing traditions endure across generations. It is not enough to have the best sauna on the block. The deeper goal is to get the block into the sauna. For sauna culture to last, it needs the physical, the social, and the spiritual. It needs safety, community, respect, generosity, and shared experience. Taken together, these excerpts celebrate the American sauna movement at a special moment in time. Sauna can live in a backyard, a research lab, a bathhouse, a welding shop, a mobile trailer, a tent, a cabin, or a community gathering place. But wherever it lives, the best sauna experiences point us toward something simple and deeply human: warmth, freedom, equality, connection, and the joy of sitting together in good heat. Happy July 4, happy Independence Day, and welcome to Sauna Talk.

Sign-up for Newsletter (and get 1-page action summary)Episode Summary: In this episode, I explore whether it's ever “too late” to change your health future—and why the science suggests that earlier is better, but later still matters. Can you still change your future? The answer is hopeful, but nuanced. Younger listeners may assume they have plenty of time, while older listeners may wonder whether the damage has already been done. In both cases, the evidence points to a more useful truth: some risks accumulate over time, some damage may be partly repaired, and many future outcomes can still be changed.I begin with a personal update about using EMDR to address exercise-related fear. At 69, I've found that it has helped me feel more confident and enjoy intense exercise more. Would it have been better to try it decades ago? Probably. But that does not mean it was too late to benefit now.The episode then walks through a five-part framework for thinking about health changes. First, some changes are best made early because damage accumulates. Blood pressure is a clear example: long-term cumulative blood pressure exposure in young adulthood has been linked with later cardiovascular disease risk, which is why “my arteries are keeping score now” is such an important message.  Glaucoma follows a similar logic: elevated eye pressure can silently damage the optic nerve, so early detection and treatment matter.Second, some damage may be partly repaired. Smoking cessation is the clearest example. Lung cancer risk declines the longer someone has stopped smoking, although prior smoking risk does not disappear completely.  I also discuss the Lifestyle Heart Trial, where intensive lifestyle changes were associated with regression of coronary atherosclerosis and fewer cardiac events over time, while also noting that the study was small and required major changes that may not be realistic for everyone. Third, even when we cannot erase the past, we can still protect the future. The Diabetes Prevention Program showed that lifestyle changes reduced the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58% overall and 71% among adults over age 60.  The UKPDS also reminds us that early glucose control after diabetes diagnosis can have lasting benefits, especially for complications involving the eyes, nerves, and kidneys. Fourth, it is never too late to build certain capacities. Strength training is a powerful example. In one study of frail adults up to age 96, high-resistance training led to major strength gains and improved walking speed.  That does not mean we are trying to become bodybuilders at 90. It means we are training for independence, balance, confidence, and the ability to keep doing the things that make life meaningful. Finally, timing may matter, but sometimes we do not yet know how much. Social connection is strongly tied to health and happiness, as shown in the Harvard Study of Adult Development, but we do not know exactly how much risk can be reversed by building new relationships later in life.  Sauna use has also been associated with lower cardiovascular and cognitive risk, but it is less clear whether benefits require lifelong use or can still meaningfully begin later. The practical question becomes: does this activity also bring you joy now?Takeaways: Earlier is better, but later is not too late. Start by asking what part of your future you can still influence from here. Check your blood pressure, see your eye doctor, consider strength training, reconnect with a friend, or address a fear that has been holding you back. The goal is not perfection—it is progress, and there is still time for that.Send us Fan MailSupport the show

There's no shortage of health advice. You don't need another supplement, another protocol, or another expert telling you what to optimize. What most people actually need is a better way to organize what already matters. This week I'm sharing the six pillars I've built my health around for the last 30 years of training, competing, raising a family, and running businesses. Not a program. Not a trend. A set of pillars that tested whether the system actually holds. Habitat, mindset, breath, nutrition, movement, recovery, and connection. These aren't new ideas. They're the ones that keep showing up no matter what the research cycle says this week. The goal isn't perfection across all of them. The goal is to know where you are, keep heading in the right direction and how to build your own version - because yours won't look exactly like mine, and it shouldn't.What we explore:- How your external and internal habitat - light, air, self-talk, and unresolved business - shapes your health more than most people realize.- Why mindset only works when it's grounded in your actual values, not the ones you think you're supposed to have.- How to use breath as a practical tool for down-regulation, activation, and recovery without needing a formal practice.- What I eat, how I think about protein and carbohydrates at different life stages, and why I finally went on hormone therapy at 56.- Why connection - starting with yourself - is the most biologically primitive and most neglected pillar of all.Chapters:00:00 Intro01:20 The 6 Pillars That Actually Move the Needle04:28 Small Home Changes That Reduce Your Toxic Load06:01 Align Your Mindset With Your Real Values11:30 Breathwork for Calm, Energy, and Better Sleep16:38 How to Eat for Your Age, Activity, and Life Stage19:41 Intermittent Fasting Rules Are Different for Women22:38 How to Train Hard Without Injuring Yourself28:24 Sauna, Cold Exposure, and Active Recovery Habits32:05 Why Connection Starts With Yourself First34:32 What 30 Years of Marriage Taught Gabby About Honesty37:35 Hamilton House: Living the Pillars With Community–This episode is sponsored by:AX3: Clean supplements, real standards.

I used to weigh 300 pounds. I tried every restrictive diet, became a vegan, and trained 90 minutes a day for 18 months with absolute zero results. Everything changed when I drank a cup of yak butter tea at 18,300 feet in Tibet. Within 30 seconds, my severe brain fog lifted, and my metabolism completely shifted. In this video, I break down exactly why adding sugar to your morning coffee is destroying your metabolism, spiking your insulin, and keeping you fat. I explain the hard science behind the alternative: blending "fat cubes" (grass-fed butter) and MCT oil into your coffee. I reveal how this specific combination of butyrate, CLA, and medium-chain triglycerides bypasses traditional digestion to go straight to your liver, instantly converting into ketones for pure brain fuel. You'll learn how eating more fat actually trains your body to burn its own stored fat, allowing me to hit 4.8% body fat at 50 years old with a biological age in my 30s—without hunger, without a 3 PM crash, and without living in the gym.Thank you to our sponsors!Suppgrade Labs | Grab your DAKE and Minerals 101 duo at shopsuppgradelabs.com and use code DAVEPOD for 15% off todayViome | Check it out at viome.com and use code 10DAVE for 10% off. Pancreatic Cancer Halted by Virus Injection Researchers injected an engineered virus directly into pancreatic tumors in three patients — the virus replicated inside malignant cells, triggered an immune response, and stopped tumor growth and spread at an intentionally low early dose. Host Dave Asprey breaks down why oncolytic viruses can do what chemotherapy can't, how the tumor's dense biological wall becomes less of an advantage when a virus can replicate inside it directly, and why a measurable response at a safety dose is the kind of early signal that changes how he's watching this field. Sources: https://www.newscientist.com AI Chatbots and Teen Mental Health A new survey shows roughly one in five adolescents and young adults are now going to AI chatbots when they feel sad, anxious, nervous, or stressed, with usage heaviest in the 18–21 range. Host Dave Asprey explains why general-purpose language models designed to be engaging are dangerous as a substitute for real mental health support, why false reassurance from a chatbot may make the pipeline to real care harder to reach, and why this is a health systems story masquerading as a tech adoption story — and what parents need to do about it. Sources: https://www.nbcnews.com GLP-1 Drugs Cut Breast Cancer Risk Penn Medicine published a retrospective analysis of over 111,000 women finding GLP-1 exposure associated with about 35% lower odds of breast cancer in the full cohort and around 30% lower in a matched comparison group. Host Dave Asprey breaks down why this isn't just a weight loss story — it's a metabolic dysfunction story — explains the insulin resistance, inflammation, and hormonal environment mechanisms that may be driving the signal, and makes the case that this finding should be reshaping how oncologists and OBGYNs think about high-risk patients right now. Sources: https://www.pennmedicine.org Putin's $26 Billion Longevity Program The Wall Street Journal reports that Russia has made anti-aging research a Kremlin-level national priority through a $26 billion program including gene therapy, organ bioprinting, and xenotransplantation, led by Putin's daughter Maria Vorontsova and physicist Mikhail Kovalchuk. Host Dave Asprey breaks down what's geopolitical theater, what's legitimately frontier science, and why the real question is whether any findings will make it out to the broader research community or get locked inside a state program. Sources: https://www.wsj.com https://www.france24.com Sauna vs. Cold Plunge A landmark Finnish study tracked over 2,300 men for nearly 21 years and found increasing sauna frequency associated with dramatically lower cardiovascular and all-cause mortality — strongest at four or more sessions per week. Host Dave Asprey settles the debate with the actual data, explains what heat shock proteins and cold shock proteins actually are and why the evidence base behind them is nowhere near equivalent, and calls out the wellness marketing presenting early-stage mouse model research as the cold water equivalent of two decades of human mortality outcomes. Sources: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/fullarticle/2521522 This episode is designed for biohackers, longevity seekers, and high-performance listeners who want mechanism-level clarity on cancer treatment breakthroughs, adolescent mental health and AI, metabolic drivers of disease, geopolitical longevity science, and the real evidence behind popular recovery modalities.
