Today on Sauna Talk, we welcome a random, spontaneous, non rehearsed or edited collection of Finns, talking about sauna. I didn't make a big deal about this interview process. I simply approached a few Finns on the street today, in Helsinki. I didn't stick my microphone in people's faces, but tried to be respectful in approaching a few people who didn't seem to be hurried, or appeared to have an idle minute or two in their day. I'm happy to say that every guest I approached was kind and respectful to me. As you will hear, all were very open with me about talking about sauna and their life with sauna. Last time in Finland, in 2109, I interviewed 12 guests for Sauna Talk, all in one way shape or form connected to sauna. We had Jasper the Finnish actor and owner of löyly spa, We had Sauna Timo, and Kimmo Helistö, owner of two public saunas in Helsinki, and Jesse from Narvi, the folks from Harvia, Dr Jari Laukkanen, Satu and Carita from Sauna from Finland, just to name a few. Yet today, I'm warmed to bring you the voice and straight up Sauna Talk from these random guests. The intent of these interviews is to help share with you what sauna… authentic sauna… means to the people in Finland, the motherland of sauna. As sauna becomes more and more popular, I think and hope you agree that the integrity of sauna is becoming more and more important. The Finns, by nature, are understated and polite. Many have no idea how their word and tradition – sauna – is being adopted and dare I say “manipulated” for commerce, profit, and marginalization. So, the Finns are pure with their sauna practice. With over 3 million saunas in a land of 5 million people, Finns need not have to look over their shoulder with concern about any compromise to sauna. For example, a Finn would simply not relate to a sign saying “don't throw water on the rocks” or a marketing ploy to purchase a quote “infrared sauna” because the marginalization of the authentic does not exist here. What does exist in Finland is the ubiquity of fucking great sauna. And super nice people who share the love and appreciation of the practice. It's been said that the worst sauna in Finland is better than the best sauna in most other countries. This may be true, but what is true are the following words from Finns. Welcome to Finland. Welcome to sauna. Real sauna. Authentic sauna.

Breeze - "Come Around (feat. Cadence Weapon)" from the 2021 album Only Up on Hand Drawn Dracula. Toronto-based producer Josh Korody has a long list of credits to his name including Dilly Dally, Beliefs, and Nailbiter but his main solo project is the monosyllabically titled Breeze. For his latest album as Breeze, Only Up, Korody recruited pretty much anybody and everybody in the Toronto scene to join him in collaboration to make a record in only eight days. Members of Orville Peck, Tallies, Vallens, Zoon, Sauna, Fake Palms, Rapport, Praises, Civic TV, Moon King, Blonde Elvis, For Jane, Ducks Ltd, TOPS and Broken Social Scene all have their fingers on the frenetically fun album. Our Song of the Day is the record's early single “Come Around.” Energetic and eclectic, the song mashes genres together in a way that makes “Come Around” sound so wrong that it's right. Psychedelic guitar strums meld with hard-hitting tribal beats and post-punk howls that feels caustic on first listen but gets soothing on repeated spins. Then, just when your brain is starting to comprehend what's happening, Cadence Weapon (the musical pseudonym of rapper/writer Rollie Pemberton) jumps in halfway through for an unexpected verse of nonsensical but clever as hell lines like, “On the web I surf like Brian Wilson.” After a cool 40 seconds, he dips out and we're back to Korody's trippy nightmarish yowls. Korody had his to say about the song: “Come Around” is about someone that has done something horrible and has not shown any accountability or true remorse and the fear they – or have the nerve – to be able to jump back into a community that no longer feels comfortable around them. So, as I'm singing the song I'm picturing performing it live with them walking into the room and making people, especially the people closest to them, extremely uncomfortable and angry. The lyrics: ‘Yeah, you really did a number on this one' references the trauma they imposed upon the community. Tim: Dr. Cabral, We appreciate your show and teachings. Regarding the current unmentionable virus, we have read that viruses can stay alive on different surfaces for varying amounts of time. My wife is a germaphobe/over-thinker, and to be cautious, we have either been wiping down everything that we bring into our house or letting it sit for a few days before using it. However, we have read that getting sick from surface contact is not as likely to happen as from airborne exposure. Would you recommend wiping/quarantining items, or is the risk simply too low to not make the effort worthwhile? I am hoping to stop and have her feel comfortable. Thank you! Thank you for answering people's questions, its awesome. 2 years ago while pregnant with my second child I started getting greyish brownish spots on my torso, neck, and a few on my arms. The dermatologist diagnosed it as CARP, confluent and reticulated papillomatosis. There really isn't much information about this online. I won't take antibiotics for this, I am curious if you have any idea where this is stemming from (liver, kidneys?) and how to treat it from a functional medicine perspective. Could it be from magnesium overdose? I never took more than 400mg a day. I am a healthy 30 year old female, used to have insulin resistance but now eat a mostly paleo / low carb type of diet. (I am now pregnant with our third, and don't mind waiting until done nursing this next one to heal this if it wouldn't be safe now! I'm assuming it wouldn't be.) Ryan: First, I would like to say thank you for all that you do for the community, I know you have helped thousands of people including myself become happier healthier beings. As far as questions, I have a couple of random rapid fire questions, when I do 24 hour fasts weekly or the beginning of the quarterly detox I notice my eyes get very dry until I eat, is this normal or am I missing something? I have been doing weekly 24 hour fasts and quarterly detoxes for a couple of years and it happens every time. During my 24 hour fasts I only consume water, usually with lemon or lime and salt and tea. Next, for using an IR sauna I know you suggest 40 minutes, would you or could you lower this time and maintain benefits if it was directly after a workout, either cardio or weight lifting since your internal temperature is already elevated? When I get into the sauna cold it takes 15 minutes to start sweating, if I go immediately following a workout I'm sweating the moment I step in, I'm just trying to optimize my time. She is 25 and just started month 2 of the CBO protocol after having completed the food sensitivity test, minerals & metals & OAT test. (She also did the 21-day detox). Jess Chan is the Founder & CEO at Longplay, a full-service email marketing agency for DTC e-commerce brands. Within 6 months of launching Longplay, Jess helped brands increase email revenue by 639% within 90 days and increase average order value by over 67%. Prior to Longplay, Jess was the Chief Marketing Officer at DTC brand Best Self Co where she saw the unique opportunities and challenges e-commerce brands faced in nurturing, converting & retaining customers that fueled her to launch Longplay. Most passionate about Most of my time is spent building up Longplay, which is our full-service email marketing agency for e-commerce brands. Now that our business is more established and we have our foundations down, we are doing a little bit more exploring of new business initiatives, whether it's launching courses or having exploring partnerships to bring the business to the next level. Also, we are exploring starting an e-commerce business as well. Jess's career and story I work in marketing now, and obviously in entrepreneurship, but my background is in actuarial science and economics. That's pretty much as far away from marketing as possible. With actuarial science obviously, the focus was on statistics and working in insurance companies and risk modeling. In my last year of college, I found a job posting for a marketing assistant and e-commerce company. At that point, I had zero experience in marketing. So, I started off as a marketing assistant and learned a lot in the first few months. I dove right in. When I graduated, I think it was nine or 10 months later, they promoted me to chief marketing officer. That was how I got my start in marketing and digital marketing. Best advice for entrepreneurs My best advice would be to just get started and figure it out along the way. I think the biggest reason entrepreneurs fail is that they try to have that perfect plan, they try to have it all figured out. The biggest, most critical failure with customers I'd say the biggest failure with customers has been not setting expectations and not having boundaries for my team or myself. We got off to a strong start, but we had to slow down and build those foundations. I think that was a good reminder: If you grow fast, then you slow down and fix the foundations. Biggest success with customers My biggest success is the fact that like Longplay, as a business, exists and is somehow working and profitable and growing. I really had so little experience and it all moved very quickly. The big success was about building an amazing product, an amazing service that had a market fit and really solved a pain point for customers. Jess's recommendation of a tool Shopify and Klaviyo if you're on e-commerce. Sauna and Slack Google Drive Jess's one key success factor My one key success factor is figuring it out as you go and trusting in that. When you trust in your ability to figure things out, it removes all of those barriers to getting started or kicking things off. Jess's Mountain Since we believe that the best way for entrepreneurs to get fast, big, and sustainable success is by leading your (new) market category, and the entire entrepreneurial journey reminds me of mountaineering, I want to ask you: Is there a mountain you dream of climbing or a mountain you have already climbed? I haven't climbed any actual mountains but the bounce that I'm wishing to climb next is starting to build a portfolio of different businesses. I've gotten the first one off the ground and it's still growing. We have a really great vision and trajectory for it. Building out that empire, I guess, of e-commerce brands, agencies, services, even physical locations. Seeing where the journey of entrepreneurship takes me and what the next business will be.
