We're diving into insights from over 16,000 ecommerce businesses, showing the trends that shaped PPC advertising in 2023, and how to use them to move forward into 2024. In this insightful interview with Jacques van der Wilt, he and Loren examine highlights from DataFeedWatch's powerful Multichannel Marketing Report. They take a look at which PPC strategies stood out the most and which channels provided the best return, along with big changes coming next year. Using these insights, they also explore the most common challenges in ecommerce PPC campaigns, and what leading brands are doing to succeed right now. We looked into the feeds of 15 to 20,000 online stores in all of those countries, and that means that's such an incredible volume that what we see basically is an almost exact picture of what is happening in ecommerce advertising. - Jacques van der Wilt, 2:20 Obviously Google is still the largest channel. Almost every retailer is using that. However, we can see that social is beginning to eat their lunch. - Jacques van der Wilt, 6:06 I think Amazon has a big influence on everything. They're probably market leader in ecommerce, so their impact must have been big. Yet I think that it's not primarily driven by Amazon. - Jacques van der Wilt, 11:59 [0:00] About Jacques van der Wilt [2:11] DataFeedWatch's Multichannel Marketing Report [6:06] Marketing channel trends [9:14] Growth of TikTok [13:42] The 3 largest barriers to PPC growth in 2024 [16:58] Other challenges retailers are facing [21:40] Best tactics for PPC practioners to use in 2024 [25:02] Challenges for retailers with large inventories Resources Mentioned: Multichannel Marketing Report 2023: https://www.datafeedwatch.com/multichannel-marketing-report DataFeedWatch homepage: https://www.datafeedwatch.com/ Creating or modifying images with AI is super easy. Today we're joined by guest Adam Forbes, the original Corporate Escapologist. He's here to talk to us about the possibilities beyond corporate and valuing the breadth of experience that corporate roles have given us. Adam spent 25 years working happily and successfully within the four walls of major corporates in marketing strategy, business development, and finance, ducking and weaving within energy retail, government, and consulting. Adam saw firsthand what happens when restructuring or other significant disruptions to the workforce result in individuals making the choice to leave or having that decision forced upon them, and observed how talented people from across all levels and roles often struggle to see beyond traditional corporate career paths. So in 2020, he made his own leap, establishing himself in a new career as a valued adviser to corporates, startups, and individuals as well as the founder of Familiarize, a marketing consultancy for startups and program director for Startup Bootcamp, which is an accelerator. Adam writes a successful blog as the Corporate Escapologist about his time leaving a leading corporate to start a new business and build a more varied dynamic career designed around his values and needs. Through his work coaching and advising fellow corporate escapologists preparing to leave corporate jobs through choice or redundancy, Adam has identified a simple method to help them effectively through the stage of disorientation, fear, and panic to a greater appreciation of their own capabilities and options for the next phase of their career.

The flexibility that work-from-home offers, teaching computational thinking to kids at an early age, and the importance of family. I talk to Steven Tong on how he navigates through work, personal, and family life. Steven Tong has more than two decades of experience in technology - starting from a solutions architect and IT consultant, to investor at SG Innovate and StartupBootcamp and now, leading innovation as Head of SAP.io Foundry in Singapore. He is a genuine, warm, and welcoming person who is a father to a nine-year-old daughter and a husband to his entrepreneur-couples therapist wife. Steven talks about the importance of finding a company that values work-life balance. His previous work experiences allowed him to work on a flexible schedule. This gave him the freedom to work around his own schedule and have time for family despite the hustle. As much as work is important, family must always come first. He also wants to teach his daughter the value of family and to empathize with others. Steven also shares the early stages of her fatherhood journey. His daughter was born prematurely, and it was very challenging for him and his wife. Fast forward to now, he is starting to introduce his daughter to the world of tech. He teaches her coding for the benefit of computational thinking, which he believes is helpful in daily life. He shares, “When we teach our kids, we learn from them too.” To get in touch with Steven Tong, find him on LinkedIn: https://sg.linkedin.com/in/steventong. Richard Celm, Co-Founder & Executive Program Director at Startupbootcamp, Australia joins Andy and Dominic on this week's episode of Business Without Bullsh-t. With a multifaceted career history driven by an ingrained entrepreneurial spirit and a hunger to constantly challenge himself, Richard's CV is a very impressive read: from selling Skateboards and investing in eatfresh.com in Australia, to managing Investment Funds and establishing the award-winning Accelerator London startup Innovation Centre in London and serving as an Army Reserve Major in command of 117 men in Afghanistan, Richard's work has earnt him a wealth of knowledge and experience which he currently pours into Startupbootcamp Australia, the world's largest industry-based startup accelerator program. The conversation goes deep as the three talk about the realities and intricacies of the startup world, which sectors Richard is currently excited about as well as valuable insight into what makes a strong startup team and what it really takes to be a successful entrepreneur in today's climate. Usually, we'd stop there, however, we recently came to realise that there's always so much of our chats with guests which we don't end up including in the show, chat which may be less about business but nevertheless, well worth a listen. So in light of our epiphany, we thought we'd try something new by adding a brand new chapter to our show. Some might call it the outtakes, but as Andy likes to say, it's less business, more bullsh-t! And so we kick off this new chapter with Dom's and Andy's rants about their annoyances with having to deal with banks and stockbrokers during COVID while Richard talks about Army life in Afghanistan and his thoughts on how society can recover from the war (the latter definitely not being bullsh-t, just to make that clear) Sounds interesting, right? Pull up a chair and press play. www.startupbootcamp.com.au Business without Bullsh-t is powered by Oury Clark.

Venture Capitalists, generally speaking, are looking to fund high-growth ventures that have the potential to scale and achieve virtually infinite returns. But achieving that scale is hard, even more so in Africa, where there are market size questions, fragmented markets, and regulatory considerations. As a result, venture investors are looking for a specific type of founder and entrepreneur - one who has demonstrated the potential to pull it off and achieve the growth and scale investors are seeking. In the African early-stage ecosystem, with its funding scarcity, limited track record, talent shortage, and expansion challenges, how do venture investors reconcile their quest for funding high-growth ventures in this environment?2:24 - defining venture capital, courtesy of Stratechery's Ben Thompson and his blog post What is a Tech Company: https://stratechery.com/2019/what-is-a-tech-company/3:59 - VCs are looking for scale, and talent capable of achieving the desired scale, with Microtraction's Chidinma Iwueke & Dayo Koleowo + TLCom Capital's Ido Sum8:14 - a discussion on scarce deal flow and a lack of investable startups, with Dayo & Digest Africa's Peter Kisadha 10:46 - 4Di Capital's Justin Stanford + Ido talk about the need to balance their portfolios to account for the realities of the African market...11:46 - ...but a balanced portfolio doesn't mean lesser return expectations13:35 - how venture builders like Founders Factory Africa & Lwazi Wali are supporting entrepreneurs through their journey to scale16:14 - GreenTec Capital Partner & Maxime Bayen on their results for equity initiative17:58 - Lwazi + Startupbootcamp Africa's Zachariah George & global venture capitalist Alex Lazarow on achieving incentive alignment through initiatives like corporate VC and evergreen funds23:32 - a discussion with Justin & Sayo on venture investing in Africa
