Based in Austin, TX, he works with individuals and couples to uncover what stands in the way of lasting change – and how to meet those blocks with presence, compassion, and courage. His work is deeply rooted in Internal Family Systems and a profound curiosity about how people evolve. Before turning his focus inward, Ryan was the founder of Raaka Chocolate, a Brooklyn-based bean-to-bar company built on transparency and ethical sourcing. But his truest calling lies in the inner landscapes: the quiet, tender spaces where real healing happens. His path has been shaped by deep inquiry, spiritual practice, and a love for the moments when people reconnect with the truth of who they are. Ryan believes transformation doesn't have to be a battle – it can be a remembering. He's most alive when exploring the alchemy of change, the courage it requires, and the unexpected grace that can come when we stop striving and start listening. Bryony Angell writes about birding culture and lifestyle. Her latest exploration into our relationship with birds is bird-friendly comestibles. In this episode, we talk about cocoa grown by Zorzal in the Dominican Republic, a bird reserve and farm certified as 100% bird-friendly by the Smithsonian Institute. Three chocolatiers based in the U.S. use Zorzal's cocoa in their bars and other chocolate products: Raaka Chocolate, Dandelion Chocolate , and Fruition Chocolate. Georgia has eaten bars by Raaka and Fruition--two thumbs up. Meet Labinot Krasniqi in Conversations with Celeri Network. We had the pleasure to discuss in detail his entrepreneurial journey as a restaurant business owner. In Kosovo, Labinot owns a variety of restaurants. He shares, his father was the biggest inspiration to join the hospitality industry. Being an expert and successful European restaurant business, he is currently the chief director and co-founder at Bon vivant. He also worked as a chocolatier, with Raaka Chocolate a New York (NYC) based chocolate company in Brooklyn. An interesting insight on chocolate he shares, his experience was very different in New York as he saw the different patterns of interest among consumers. He mentioned the variety is much broader in the US and he has a lot to learn. As a graduate in economics, business and management, he sure has a deep understanding of business and start-up culture. When asked, would he rather prefer taking business loans or using personal funds when setting up a business? He had a quick response. Check out the full video to know more in detail.
Ryan Cheney created Raaka because he knew there was a better way to make chocolate: from scratch; with traceable, high quality, single origin cacao; transparently sourced; and crafted into something uncommonly delicious. Their founding team knew this operating model didn't quite fit convention, so they built their own value based chocolate shop from the ground up. Raaka is now ten years strong in the international chocolate game. Having inked a number of major retail partnerships with the likes of Whole Foods along the way, I'd say Ryan's hunch is bearing some serious fruit. (See Ryan, I did learn that chocolate comes from a fruit!) --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/digin/support
Chocolate is beloved by...well, most humans, it would seem. But this sweet treat that, for many of us, brings instant happiness, has a nasty secret: most of the world’s cocoa comes from a place where child labor, and sometimes even enslavement, is rampant. For decades, the giant companies that dominate the chocolate industry have said that it was impossible to know if their cocoa was tainted by labor abuses — the supply chain is too long, how can you possibly track cocoa beans back to a small farm in West Africa? Enter technology. But, it turns out, technology may not truly offer the answer to the intractable problem of child labor. The solution may, in fact, be lurking in plain sight. We talk to Nathan Hodge, of Raaka Chocolate; Charity Ryerson, of Corporate Accountability Lab; and Frans Pannekoek, of Tony’s Chocolonely. Find out more at rawdatapodcast.com

It's Valentine's Day this week and chances are you'll be partaking in one of my favorite guilty pleasures - chocolate. Every year, 58 million pounds of chocolate is purchased. But not everything is so sweet about the practices that surround this commodity-driven product. Nathan Hodge, head chocolatier of Raaka Chocolate in Brooklyn, NY, is working to change this. If you're like most conscious consumers, you've probably thought of the impact that a commodity-driven treat like chocolate has on our planet and the communities that grow them. This episode dives into the indigenous cultures where cacao is grown as well as the meaning of sustainable chocolate. Nate shares with us the time he set his oven on fire and when he had a bow and arrow drawn on him while researching cacao trees in South America. He's very passionate about creating delicious, sustainable chocolate that supports the health of the makers, consumers, and planet. -- Resources mentioned in this episode: Taza Chocolate Patagonia Lost City of Z -- Join the conversation on Facebook, follow us on Instagram, and try our repurposed coffee body scrub.
