Spiritbox Frontfrau Courtney LaPlante wird mit Poppy verwechselt, während Metallica NICHT den Grammy für Best Metal Performance gewinnen. Hailing from Eastbourne and Brighton, Amongst Liars formed in late 2019 playing a unique blend of modern rock, with influences from Shinedown, Audioslave, RATM, QOTSA, Royal Blood and BMTH, they released debut single 'Over & Over' in February 2020 and played one sell out show before the global pandemic hit. As Australia's life sciences industry accelerator, MTPConnect's is backing Australian medical devices of the future through the BioMedTech Horizons Program. It's a $45 million initiative of the Medical Research Future Fund to bring life-saving medical products from an idea to patients. It's about nurturing medtech companies through the first valley of death and de-risking product development to increase the appeal to private investment.  The first phase of the program supported 11 companies. And from 2019, a further three rounds awarded $30.3 million in funding to 38 companies. The good news is these latest projects have again captured the interest of investors, going on to secure at least $479 million of further flow-on and external investment. It was good to catch up with Oli Sykes last week from Bring Me The Horizon on the latest episode of Talkin' Rock.  Lots going on with BMTH. We talk about their latest tour with Fall Out Boy. "It's been sick." is how he summed up the tour. He told me why they choose to do a support tour "We've been going nonstop, and we're kinda on the verge of burning out." He explained that between making records and more, it was just easier to hop on a tour and go out for the summer. "We still have fans to win over." was another reason to hit the road.  The new record called Post Human: neX GEn drops on September 15th. Is the upcoming album the most eclectic record? He answered that question. He spoke to influences and nods to some of the bands he loved growing up. "It's more about the frantic and unhinged energy" he said about some of the songs. "I know the rules to writing a song...now it's time to go back and break them." And, yes, this album will challenge the fans.  He talked about the process for writing music. As far as recording songs, he said that vocal booths are overrated. Ha! He said they don't even really use studios anymore.  One of his heroes was Linkin Park's Chester Bennington. He talked about meeting him and singing at his celebration of life. "I guess you could say that was bittersweet." He searched for words to describe the loss of Chester in his life. "I feel like a part of my childhood died when he died." He talked about preserving his voice and what he does to not lose it. He also answered the question as to whether the rock star life is all it's cracked up to be. "It's the best job in the world, of course!" I had to ask him about the crazy videos he's made. Our search for the worst album of all time resumes, yes, it's us here at Broken Records. Steve and Remfry head back to October 30th 2006 this week and look at the boom of deathcore with its most successful ever exponents; Bring Me The Horizon and their debut album Count Your Blessings. It's pretty odd to be thinking about BMTH today in the context of them being a scrappy, drunk bunch of kids trying to sound like The Red Chord, whilst they're currently one of the biggest rock acts on the face of the planet and have just played the BRIT awards with Ed Sheeran. But, that's what they were back on their debut album, and they were divisive as anything as well. Winning Kerrang Awards and hitting the top 100 in the UK album charts around the time this record was released, but also inspiring some truly eye-rolling gatekeeping comments from the metal scene at large, due to… we dunno, young girls liking them or something. So, were BMTH jumped up emo, scene kids, desecrating the good name of death metal, or were they miles ahead of their time and doing something that was so forward thinking that it scared the old guard and inspired the kids? Well, as usual, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Is Count Your Blessings actually any good? Have a listen and you'll find out.
