It's been a hot minute, but the gang returns along with a new intro to celebrate the return of the Nine Circles Audio Thing! We're going to get back into the Album of the Month starting with July, but for now Chris returns to the mic for the first time in forever to gather the crew and talk about a few select highlights from the first six months of the year. Colin, Vince, Ian, Hera and...holy shit, DAN?! Yup, it's a full crew at the ready and madness is had, whether it's risking Swiftian armies or generally squealing with delight over some very, very good metal this year.Variety abounds as the crew gets into it, talking about Dödsrit, Inherits the Void, Ulcerate, Chapel of Disease, Job For A Cowboy, Alcest, Pallbearer, Hamferð, AWS, Thot, Ryujin, Aborted, Hammer King, Lascaille's Shroud, Farsot, and Lord Dying. No spoilers for the anticipated albums, and only a short tease about the new AOTM format moving forward, but it's a blast to be back so grab your favorite beverage, put on those headphones and dig in. See you next month! 9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter (X) | Instagram
To abruptly switch gears from our Very Special Episode earlier this week, we deliver reviews of the newest installments from two tech death giants. Ulcerate is back with their seventh full-length record which shows the band committing even more fully to the elements of post-rock, black metal, and textured drone which have helped define their sound- but have they strayed too far from the path? Pitted against them is the mutated monstrosity Malignancy's fourth full-length, which seeks to bring their sound a bit closer to the center of death metal while leaving their whiplashing, wild style of technicality intact- but can they maintain their vicious edge? This week Harald Fossberg - a journalist, writer of “Nyanser Av Svart” and member of death punks, Turbonecro - joins the podcast to share his perspective on the advent and evolution of Norwegian black metal. We also talk about the influence of British bands like Judas Priest and Killing Joke on the scene, and we reflect on the panel discussion about hate speech in black metal that both of us participated in at this year's Inferno Festival. Later, I review one of the year's most anticipated releases in “Cutting The Throat Of God” by unorthodox death metal visionaries, Ulcerate. And on my weekly news rant, the latest singles by Winterfylleth, Horned Almighty, ColdCell, Black Lava and others are rounded up for judgment. Ep. 85 - Nightmarer. In this episode I talk to Simon Hawemann, guitarist of Nightmarer. Nightmarer formed in 2014 and play a dissonant style of extreme metal. If you're a fan of Gorguts, Meshuggah, or Ulcerate you will dig Nightmarer. Nightmarer will be releasing their new album “Deformity Adrift” on May 5th on Total Dissonance Worship Records. Simon is currently based out of Portland, OR and runs the record label Total Dissonance Worship. We talk about his record label, the new album, and sought after records. If you are a metal vinyl collector, definitely follow Simon on instagram @Simonxsludge. Nightmarer band photo by Peter Voigtmann. I hope everyone enjoys this episode. The Dummköpfe of Dissonance are back after a short fortnight (or 2) off, and they've dragged resident honorary potato Theophrastus Bombastus back with them. Remember when you used to listen to those pleasant, catchy songs they play on the radio? No? Neither does Riff Raff. Theo, ever the kvlt wunderkind, decided to go full Zero Dark Thirty and torture us (mostly Hans) by choosing "dissonant metal" as the theme. Luckily Eenzy sounds like he called in on a soup-can-and-string setup, so he's able to emerge unscathed and drop some hardcore knowledge on Medieval beliefs about petrified sperm and awkward teenage black metal fandom. Finally, The Boiz continue to stoke their rivalry with the poseurs over at Toilet Radio, who have yet to even acknowledge they know Riff Raff exists. We can dream though... [Is this penance for my Ulcerate shidtalking? :sadsac: ~Roldy] New Music Features This Week Hans's Picks Beyond Terror Beyond Grace - Embracing Null Mors Verum - The Living Eenzy's Picks Dragged into sunlight - Buried with Leeches Plebeian Grandstand - Angle Mort Theo's Picks Abyssal – Deus Vult Michel Anoia – L'ombre et l'errant
Ep. 059: In this installment, two of your three favorite heavy metal caballeros discuss some old business regarding Avenged Sevenfold before taking a look at the latest albums from Serpentine Dominion, Avenged Sevenfold, Testament, Theocracy, Crowbar, Helmet, Ulcerate, Anaal Nathrakh, Tower, The Answer, Paint in Exile, Car Bomb and Beyond Threshold. General, recording, touring and charting news is reviewed for several artists, including Steve Vai, Five Finger Death Punch, Metallica, Adrenaline Mob, Iron Maiden, Six Feet Under, Sepultura and more. In the midst of the news, Chris gives the details on Gwar's crowdfunding campaign for a comic book series before updates are given on previously mentioned campaigns by Jason Becker, Silent Civilian and A Sound of Thunder. Pat, Reece and Joe on the NY side of things offer up a new Top Ten list in the form of Top Ten Heavy Metal Halloween songs. Chris gives a brief update on Apothica before discussing Upon a Burning Body as this week's Social Media Highlight. The show closes out with a look at numbers 50 through 26 of Loudwire's Top 50 Live Rock and Metal Acts of All Time. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Before Terminus takes a brief break to catch up on the day jobs we've been ignoring for months, we have a shorter, diamond-hard episode for you split in two distinct halves- wandering, melodic, and unusual one-man black metal versus two very different takes on modern war metal. We'll be back week after next, but hopefully this keeps the shakes away long enough to survive your detox. Our first record of the evening comes as a personal submission from Floris of Asgrauw and Meslamtaea with a new one-man project that appears to concentrate on... trees? Gallows? Dutch is hard. Anyway, Schavot represents an effort by one of Holland's MVPs to create full-spectrum, 2nd wave-centered black metal with his own idiosyncratic presentation. Unsurprisingly, it's excellent- faithful to the past but employing modern musical technology that creates something both familiar and surprising to the seasoned listener. Next is the side project of Terminus alum Aarsland (of Devilgroth fame,) Monotonic Negativel. The airy, almost improvisational feel of Devilgroth shines through, but now brought back down to earth with intense inflections of industrial and DSBM. The result is something that can only come from Aarsland- dark, gloomy, and surprisingly beautiful with stabs of intense aggression and heaviness you don't typically see in the style. Our second half is a quick blast through two war metal records. The first is the debut EP by Azothyst, which attempts to wed the battering aggression of war metal with dissonant riff patterns from orthodox black metal and Ulcerate. This project has an all-star lineup of Canadian black/death legends, but does is it able to withstand the weight of its own ambitions and this style's natural pitfalls? We discuss. Wrapping up is Caveman Cult's new full-length from the beaches of Miami, playing a bludgeoning and unsophisticated style of war metal str8 outta 1995. There's a lot discussed in this section: are we sure this isn't just grindcore? How do you weave songs this blunt and primeval together in an elegant way? Just what the hell DOES "crust" mean, anyway? As always, there's plenty of excitement to find and intrigue to dig out, even on a record which operates with all the subtlety of a pool ball in a tube sock to the ribcage. Thanks for listening, Terminators- we'll see you in a couple weeks. 0:00:00 - Intro 0:08:27 - Schavot - Galgenbrok (Void Wanderer Productions/War Productions) 0:46:41 - Monotonic Negativel - The Silent Abyss (Independent) 1:25:42 - Interlude - Hæthen - “Amongst The Forlorn Larch,” fr. Shaped by Aeolian Winds (Fallen Empire - LP / Ars Magna - CD, 2015) 1:35:42 - Azothyst - Blood of Dead God (Vault of Dried Bones) 2:02:39 - Caveman Cult - Blood and Extinction (Nuclear War Now) 2:30:05 - Outro - Proclamation - “Altars of Mayhem” fr. On a hot summer night in July of 2021, the dread lich Terminus rises from its grave again. Our break was a much needed one, but our addiction to painstaking discussion of extreme metal is one not so easily shaken by a touch of abstinence. Join us once again as we relapse into the worst of our habits with four new records from all corners of the metal scene. Did you miss us? No? That's okay I guess. Lykhaeon cuts the ribbon on the podcast's grand re-opening ceremony with a style of murky, textural black/death metal that seems to be developing before our very eyes. Equal parts caverncore, orthodox, and oldschool Norse, Lykhaeon's style attempts to drag its ambient oddities and gauzy yet weighty production back towards the center via a judicious injection of traditional, incisive black metal riffing. We need a name for this: Post-Orthodox? Cavernblack? Either way, Lykhaeon establishes themselves as a standard bearer for this style, whatever its name might be. It wouldn't be Terminus without a barrage of brutal death, and Anthropophagus Depravity provides exactly that. An Indonesian band surprisingly themed after Mayan religious atrocities, these guys work to create a new foundation for brutal death to build on. Blast beats and palm-muted 16th note runs? Check, of course, but there's also snatches of Ulcerate's watery dissonance and older Behemoth's vast and epic riffing. At once varied and utterly uncompromising, these upstarts present themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the new wave of brutal death. After our break we tackle Hell Strike's debut EP, which presents a swirling combination of death, black, and thrash metal that may be familiar to those who have heard other bands attempting to reinvigorate the primordial ooze of proto extreme metal. Unlike many of those, though, Hell Strike approaches the challenge with an attack of razor-sharp tremolo riffing, propulsive thrash rhythms, and structural ideas lent from the most sophisticated ends of Swedish death metal. There's no thunking murk to be found here (not that there's anything wrong with that)- just a precise and rigorous attempt to recreate the style's roots in a new fashion. Concluding our evening is the second full-length by Sarinvomit who wholeheartedly embrace a style of black metal now forgotten: that of Norsecore, most benighted of black metal's many spawn. There's blasting, angular riffing, and poisonous vocals, but also a wonderful sense of rhythmic play and a real passion for the days where black metal was still heavy and uncompromising. Are you tired of Finnblack, postblack, and any other "pretty" black metal? Here is your antidote. Not to be taken orally. 0:00 - Intro/Terminus News ft. Perceptions of Torment 0:10:28 - Lykhaeon - Opprobrium (Repose Records)* 0:52:37 - Anthropophagus Depravity - Apocalypto (Comatose Music) 1:31:36 - Interlude - Tiamat - “Whatever That Hurts” fr. Wildhoney (Century Media Records, 1994) (Available on all streaming services or in a batch of 20 at your local record store) 1:37:24 - Hell Strike - Hellstrike (Chaos Records) 2:16:16 - Sarinvomit - Awaken Ye Impious Hordes of Shaitan (Blasphemous Art Productions) 2:56:07 - Outro - Godslaying Hellblast - “Domination Hellfuck” fr. Bestial Laceration of Angelcunts (Hate & Murder Productions, 2011) *CLARIFICATION: Death. Void. Terror. is a Helvetic Underground Committee project. Dreams of Consciousness Podcast Episode 187 features an interview with Dan Caycedo of Withered. Formed by members of Social Infestation (the cult Atlanta deathgrind band that also contained members of Mastodon), Withered have spent decades ignoring genre classification with their self-described "tortured blackened doom/death". Their atonal and claustrophobic sound finds common ground between Neurosis and Ulcerate, demonstrating those bands aren't as disparate as one might think. I spoke with guitarist/vocalist Dan Caycedo about his musical history before Withered, what led him to join the band, and the challenges that come with playing Withered's music. We also discussed the writing and recording of the latest Withered album, Verloren, and what the band has planned for the future. My thanks to Dan for speaking with me, and to all of you for listening. So, buckle up for an epic episode that has a wealth of stuff you may have missed and be sure to take notes, artists we mention need your support so open up those wallets and purses.Needless to say, 2020 was a wasteland of a year but it drove metal to be an epic beast throughout its twelve months of existence. As always, Buke pilots this episode with Charles, Angela, Ian, Vincent, Heracat, and new member Didrik who all cover some of their favorites from the year. Discussions range from the best metal had to offer as well as Christmas traditions on the US side as well as the Canadian side, a brief primer on Didrik's metal background, pandemic woes, and the Slay At Home series and many other avenues our staff sought live entertainment in 2020.
FEATURING:ASEITAS, UADA, VULNERE, AFTERBIRTH, BARISHI, CODE ORANGE, COSMIC PUTRIFACTION, GARGOYL, LOATHE, ORANSSI PAZUZU, SWEVEN, ULCERATE, and UNDERGANG
The queer look at heavy metal this week takes in both one of the 21st century's most forward thinking bands, and one of the greats of the classic era. One of Between The Buried And Me's most madcap odysseys gets the Camp Classic treatment, and we discuss what that has to do with one of the key composers of the great American songbook. We also look at how German greats Accept tried to look ultra metal, succeeded, but also ended up with some visuals that we couldn't possibly not misinterpret. Plus we've got the final round-up of our top albums of 2020, with deep dives into records from Ulcerate and Kassad. Also some entirely unavoidable double entendres.

As the hosts practice social distancing, CHR opens the show with the densely-produced death metal of New Zealand's Ulcerate while Doug opts for some Michigan melodeath from The Black Dahlia Murder. In the indie segment, CHR ventures to Bangladesh to check out the debut from Nawabs of Destruction. In Heavy Metal Valhalla, Doug looks at one of the most popular industrial albums from the 1990s with Nine Inch Nails' sophomore release, to mixed results.
At war with no enemy But the dearth of our will Far too late to wake from this doubt Intransigent in the face of the end Banished to a fate worse than death No worth remains of this condemned existence Soon to be annulled Transpire, from order to chaos The messiah of alienation Deliver us to these ends we have dreamt Você tem alguma pergunta, sugestão, crítica, correção, elogio ou qualquer outra observação? During the 80s "Satanic Panic", a certain Australian hard rock band came under fire for their monicker. Fast forward years later and California powerviolencers ACXDC took the concept and ran with it. We got stoked when the grinders signed on with Prosthetic Records and jumped at the opportunity to speak with vocalist Sergio Amalfitano. At that very moment the new album "Satan Is King" was being put out on the racks. Gotta love happy accidents. Mr. Amalfitano was quick to explain the history of their unique name and the concept of the new record. Great stuff in another long overdue chat. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we celebrate a shared Bday with some classic records. Musically, we crank the new ACXDC, Vader, Oz, Ulcerate, WVRM, Werewolves, Tombstoner, Pile of Priests (!!), and introduce Canadian thrashers Torrefy in our "indie Spotlight". Horns and Stay Healthy! This week we are absolutely enamored with the brilliance of Ulcerate's new album Stare Into Death And Be Still. There's a quick rundown of albums that have been firmly planted in our playlists this month including Azusa, Dance Gavin Dance, Intronaut, Lethvm and Oranssi Pazuzu. 2016 bangers and a WIGTY for good measure. Thanks for listening!
Heavy Pod Is Heavy Cast! This week we talk about Devin Townsend's coronavirus concert, Wintersun's Patreon (and compare the two), Clutch's livestreams, Obscura's lineup changes, The Ghost Inside's new track, Ulcerate and Trivium's new albums, then I try to argue that Eden's Golden Age Of Metal is over. Then, cool people time with Cloudpunk, Heat Signature and Devs. Enjoy!
World renowned tattoo artist, black metal aficionado and my good friend, Liorcifer, returns to the show in epic fashion. We talk about the music we grew up with, his work and how he narrowly avoided the trappings of reality television. Then I discuss the new Ulcerate and Werewolves records, the latest metal news and I give my thoughts on the recent headlines involving Malevolent Creation.Support the bands featured on this episode:Dysylymn - https://dysylumn.bandcamp.com/En Minor - https://enminor.bandcamp.com/Ulcerate - https://ulcerate.bandcamp.com/https://werewolvesdeathmetal.bandcamp.com/Follow the show on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook (@intothenecrosphere).This podcast is also available on YouTube.

In this installment, two of your three favorite heavy metal caballeros discuss some old business regarding Avenged Sevenfold before taking a look at the latest albums from Serpentine Dominion, Avenged Sevenfold, Testament, Theocracy, Crowbar, Helmet, Ulcerate, Anaal Nathrakh, Tower, The Answer, Paint in Exile, Car Bomb and Beyond Threshold.
Coleman returns to bring some spooky Halloween treats and tricks. Classics from King Diamond and Type O Negative as well as covering a glut of awesome upcoming gigs from Ulcerate, Vektor, SubRosa; also a new one from Bolzer.
This week we're joined by fellow editor Nick again! And as you can probably tell from the title, we talk about some streaming service drama! Specifically, the trainwreck that followed Frank Ocean's new Apple Music exclusive album, the UMG salt that followed, and Spotify stirrings in relation to industry trends. But wait, there's more industry drama! A former Victory Records employee wrote a huge expose talking about all the stuff that goes down in the label, confirming the suspicions of many. We then talk about SubRosa and their interview about the music they wrote in relation to the Mormon church's treatment of LGBTQI individuals. We talk about a bunch of new music and music-related announcements as well. Including: poorly-realized analogies about post/weird-death metal involving Ulcerate, Coma Cluster Void, Car Bomb, Negura Bunget, Meshuggah, Mithras (and more Mithras), Allegaeon's Rush cover, WRVTH being awesome, In Flames being terrible (seriously), Ninjaspy, Darkthrone, Emperor, Brujeria (and their tongue-in-cheek interview), Ion Dissonance, Leander Kills, The Dear Hunter and The Aurora Borealis Project x Drewsif Stalin's Musical Endeavors. Finally, we talk about the passing of Tom Searle of Architects. Enjoy! (the episode, hopefully, not the terrible news)
Highlighting Armstrong Metal Fest, as well as a shit heap of awesome gigs approaching over the next few months including Krallice, Belphegor, Mortuary Drape, Monolord, Ulcerate, and Om.
From the first time I heard Ulcerate, I realized that they were not a typical band. They were clearly operating within the death metal genre, but instead of catering to a certain style, it was more a case of using the language of death metal to express more diverse concepts. It may sound dramatic, but I feel like Ulcerate are the future of death metal. When Tombs had the opportunity to play shows with them, we jumped at it. Though it was only three dates, I feel that it was an honor to share the stage with them. Jamie and I, in the wake of the theft of their gear, had a quick conversation before our show in Boston. I hope to see these guys on the road at some point soon.
