POPULARITY
Pipeman has an amazing interview with the band Gravewitch and discuss their music and philosophies on Blackened Thrash Metal, Thrash Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, and metal music genres in general. Great interview. Don't miss it!Social Media Links: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gravewitch/photos Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gravewitchofficialBandcamp: https://gravewitchofficial.bandcamp.com/album/gravewitchBand Bio: Bend, Oregon — 2013. Chris Fleming and Andrew Ingraham first raised the banners of Gravewitch in the heart of Oregon's shadowed high desert; the world of blackened thrash metal wasn't exactly waiting for them—but it should've been. Their unholy alliance would go on to carve a jagged path through a decade of turmoil, triumph, and relentless performance, delivering a brutal fusion of thrash, black, death, and melodic metal that strikes with the fury of an avalanche and the cold precision of a blade through bone. From the very beginning, Gravewitch—born as a two-piece with Fleming on guitar/vocals and Ingraham on drums—laid the foundation for something far darker than their humble beginnings suggested. Their sound, a storm of buzzing riffs, blast beats, and unyielding growls, evolved with each release and performance, folding in elements from legends like Kreator, Testament, Amon Amarth, Emperor, and Vader. The chemistry between the founding duo is undeniable. The music, like the band itself, is unrelenting—a blend of old-school thrash's speed and aggression, black metal's cold, atmospheric darkness, and the weight of death metal's hammer. Fleming's lyrics are just as aggressive, each track an exploration of battle, rebellion, and darkness, all delivered with a razor-sharp edge. "Circle of Power," their anthemic fan favorite, serves as a testament to their unyielding spirit, always present in their setlists, a grim declaration of their musical fire.A Decade of Relentless GrindGravewitch's rise through the ranks of the Pacific Northwest's underground metal scene has been marked by a slew of impressive performances and accomplishments. Local press documented the band's early days, and by 2015, they were carving their name into the region's live music circuit, sharing stages with heavyweights like Lord Dying, Castle, Inanimate Existence, and Nervosa. But their story doesn't stop there. Gravewitch has long been a fixture on the road, expanding their reach with every tour. In 2017, they booked their own West Coast tour hitting California, hitting Arizona, & circling back through Southern California, through Northern California, & into Oregon. Later in 2017, they embarked on a much larger tour supporting Voltumna, a blackened death metal band from Italy, on the “Itinere Inferi West Coast Tour.” Their unrelenting performances took them across a wide swath of the U.S, carving a permanent mark in the underground metal scene. On the Rise Gravewitch's first EP, Soul Reaper, released in 2015, was the spark that set it all off, laying the foundation for their towering presence in the scene. Their debut full-length, The Summoning (2020), marked a defining moment in their sound, blending the harsh precision of black metal with the thundering force of thrash. Tracks like “Circle of Power” became staples of their live shows, songs that encapsulate the very soul of Gravewitch: fast, dark, melodic, and utterly crushing.Through the years, they've stood tall alongside legendary acts, opening for the likes of Warbringer, Flotsam and Jetsam, and Goatwhore. Their performances are nothing short of ferocious, a raw assault on the senses that leaves crowds battered, bruised, and begging for more. Whether playing in packed venues like The Domino Room or under the stars at The Capitol in Bend, they know no other way but to play with the intensity of a band determined to rise above.Unyielding and UncompromisingEven so, the band's journey has always been defined by their refusal to conform. Never signing with a major label, Gravewitch has remained fiercely independent, upholding complete creative control over their music. From the start, they've chosen the DIY path, with Chris Fleming handling the bulk of the instrumentation on their releases, ensuring that every riff, every growl, and every pounding drumbeat aligns with their unrelenting vision. This independence has been the bedrock of their identity, allowing them to remain true to their sound and uncompromising in their approach. As they gear up for their second full-length album, Gravewitch (2025), the anticipation grows. It promises to be the most ambitious record yet, one that will no doubt expand on their unique fusion of blackened thrash with all the melodic and guttural elements fans have come to expect. And with plans for a second music video for the album's first single, their visual presence is poised to be as formidable as their sonic assault.Gravewitch—A Legacy Carved in SteelGravewitch's story is far from over, and their legacy continues to grow with every show, every album, and every fan that sings their dark hymns. For a band that began in the isolation of Bend, Oregon, their music has spread far and wide, building a cult following that grows with each passing year. Happy New Year from The Bourbon Road! Jim and Todd ring in the New Year at the Bourbon Road bar with one final sample show to close out 2025. With the "Whiskey of the Year" episode just around the corner, the hosts are clearing the decks and diving into four distinct and intriguing pours that range from experimental finishes to classic Kentucky profiles. It's a diverse lineup that takes their palates on a journey from the coast of France to the American Southwest. The tasting begins with a luxurious offering from Bardstown Bourbon Company's Distillery Collection: the Normandy Calvados Brandy Barrel Finish. This blend of 12 and 13-year-old Indiana bourbons was finished for 28 months in apple brandy casks and an additional four months in toasted oak. Clocking in at 104.2 proof, it delivers a "flavor explosion" of honey crisp apple, vanilla cream, puff pastry, and a rich, compote-like texture that leaves the hosts searching for descriptors like "candle nose" and "apple pie." Next, they take a sharp turn to Oxnard, California, for Sespe Creek Distillery's Warbringer, a Mesquite Smoked Southwest Bourbon. This 98-proof experimental pour features mesquite-smoked corn and malted rye, resulting in a savory, polarizing profile. Todd and Jim pick up notes of "burnt all-beef hot dogs," barbecue smoke, and pumpernickel, describing it as a "smoky beast" that definitely ruffles some feathers but delivers on its promise of uniqueness. Returning to the Bluegrass State, the hosts sample the inaugural release from Jackson Purchase Distillery: the Full Proof. Produced in Hickman, Kentucky, by Master Distiller Craig Beam and Assistant Master Distiller Terry Ballard, this 4-year-old bourbon (roughly 117.8 proof) punches above its age class. It offers a definitive, classic bourbon profile with notes of buttery caramel, brown sugar, and a viscous, oily mouthfeel that Jim calls the "Wikipedia picture of bourbon." Finally, they explore the New Riff High Note Confluence Project Volume 1, a 100% Wheat Whiskey. This 6-year-old expression uses a complex mash bill of Red Turkey Wheat and various malted wheats. At cask strength, it surprises the table with a dark, complex profile featuring notes of cotton candy, mint tea, medicinal cherry, and a "Good & Plenty" black licorice finish that showcases the depth of heirloom grains. The episode wraps up with a "Winner Winner Chicken Dinner" segment where Jim and Todd attempt to rank these four very different whiskeys. Will they lock stock on their favorites, or will the polarizing pours divide the room? Tune in to find out and get ready for the 2025 Whiskey of the Year show coming next week! Be sure to check out our private Facebook group, "The Bourbon Roadies" for a great group of bourbon loving people. You will be welcomed with open arms!

So, would you believe it. Today we return to the world of metal on A Year In Horror. Yes! Welcome to the mad minds of American Thrash metal fright fiends Warbringer. Their latest album is entitled 'Wrath And Ruin' and it came out on March 14th on Napalm Records. This is what it's all about. Today we speak with guitarist player Adam Carroll about the band, his history with horror and of course the Japanese head scratcher, House.WARBRINGER // HOUSE // PATREON // LETTERBOXD LINK FOR ALL BAND CONVERSATIONS
Warbringer frontman John Kevill is once again back on the show! We open the discussion on his take on the world we currently live in, how his optimism of seeing positive change in his lifetime has waned in recent times, and how that mindset inspired the song “A Better World”. We also talk about how many of the songs on the new album are based on his experiences, how modern art has a low level of mind control that affects our decision making, how important the next year is for Warbringer, and the toxic mix many artists feel when they are successful in music but it doesn't translate into financial security. Petar and Brandon discuss the “Cat Bath Water” merchandise release by Belushi Speed Ball, MTV Unplugged streaming now on Paramount+ and us remembering those episodes in real time, Buckcherry's Josh Todd believing in rock n roll, and some Hatebreed drama surrounded the exit of Chris Beattie. Join John and I as we kick things off discussing how intentional the release date of the bands upcoming release, Wraith and Ruin coming out March 14th via Napalm Records, was. From there we take a bit of a deep dive into the lyrical content of the album, how a lot of it touches on things that continuously happen over the course of our existence, but we seemingly don't learn from our past mistakes. John talks about the struggles of putting out one of the groups most acclaimed albums and feeling that the band was on the verge of something big, only to have the pandemic take it all away, and how that really drove him to really up the ante lyrically on this album. All that and more in our chat with the Warbringer vocalist. This week we begin our deep dive into "The Last Day," the new Night Demon single released as part of the Decibel Magazine Flexidisc Series in July 2022. "The Last Day" has been hailed as "Vysteria pt. 2" and vies for the title of thrashiest Night Demon song ever. In this episode, we dig into the origins of the song, beginning with a riff that Armand had during the writing of the third full-length Night Demon studio album. The guys explain why "The Last Day" did not fit within the concept of the album, why the song was left to die on the vine, and how it came to be resuscitated in December 2021 following Night Demon's appearance at the Decibel Metal and Beer Festival in Los Angeles, California. You will hear multiple demos tracing the song's wild evolution from humble beginnings to its finished form. This week Brian is joined by Becky and Rob from Dystopica. Dystopica is a heavy metal band from Connecticut, US. Dystopica was formed in 2019 by Becky Brideau. The band's lineup is Becky Brideau on vocals, Rob Muller on guitars, and Erich Bender on drums. Dystopica has a distinct sound blending hard rock, heavy metal, thrash metal, and progressive metal. The band's music includes melodic, harmonizing guitar riffs and powerful female vocals. Influenced by classic heavy metal, Dystopica brings back qualities of heavy metal from the 70's and 80's mixed with some modern and progressive elements. Due to Covid, Dystopica has not had the opportunity to perform live shows yet as a band. However, all the members have performed live in previous bands. Guitarist Rob Muller has performed with previous bands at numerous venues including The Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie, NY and has opened for several well-known bands including Warbringer, Dying Fetus, Kittie, Enforcer, Moonspell, and Cattle Decapitation. Drummer Erich Bender has performed with a previous band at multiple local venues in CT including the Webster Underground in Hartford, CT. Vocalist Becky Brideau has performed with a previous band playing at local festivals and venues in CT including the Toyota Oakdale Theater in Wallingford, CT at a Live Nation event. As a band Dystopica is planning on performing live shows starting in the fall of 2022.
