Cadavers have long been the go-to for anatomy and dissection courses in medical school. However, with so much emerging technology at our fingertips, using donors for these purposes may become obsolete. Buckle up! Today we're going driving. We'll be uncovering some curious truths involved in the history of car safety - and I promise, it won't be boring. Spoiler alert: one very useful feature used in cars today was invented by a blind man, windshield wipers have come a LONG way, and... cadavers were once used as test dummies. If you enjoy hearing passionate people talk about jobs they love and technology that fascinates them, you are in for a treat. Noah Gedrimas grew up with a love of vehicles—cars, tractors, construction equipment, and snowmobiles. In college, he built a one-fifth-scale car and then programmed it to self-park, which led him to a “newfound respect for mechatronics” and its ability to support really complex maneuvers. In this interview, Gedrimas reflects with enthusiasm on his time at Continental Automotive, working on everything from autonomous valet parking to electric shuttles and semi-trucks. Now, Gedrimas is applying that passion to ground-positioning radar technology at GPR. They are using ground-penetrating radar to capture unique, sub-surface data for positioning. Inclement weather compromised line of sight, roads with poor or no lane marking, weak GPS signals, and road terrain no longer affect the uptime and availability of autonomous navigation. You will want to join our host, Daniel Bogdanoff, as he chats with Gedrimas about: -Cadavers in cars. -The feature-rich information that lies below the ground. -The compute requirements when compared to cameras or lidar. -Early adopters of GPR technology. And much more that you will not want to miss.
Horror Hill: A Horror Anthology and Scary Stories Series Podcast
Hello there, my friends, and welcome to Horror Hill. I'm your host, Erik Peabody, and tonight, I'm bringing you two stories to throw a chill into your evening. Unfortunately, these stories are so unrelated that I can't come up with a clever little connection between them, like I usually do. So, alas, I sit here. Bereft. A failure. Just sell my bones to the glue factory, I suppose. Regardless, these are two good ones, so I'll ask that you forgive my shortcomings for the time being. Episode 453... Happy Tax Day, punkers! Another very special episode for you, this time celebrating yet another new release, Die At The Plant. It's a gritty Tax Day collaboration between El Matador, the former bassist for legendary Chico punk band Fight Music, and Brothers Grim Punk (BGP). Better yet, El Matador himself joins us on the episode! Do yourself a favor and read the mind-blowing lyrics on this album, and get it for free on our Bandcamp page. So much good stuff in this episode... we discuss how ridiculous the algorithm and federal taxes have become, but El Matador gives us a major piece of history connecting Sublime to Chico, CA. 453 is a must listen. Chico Heroin Killed Bradley. Crazy shit. And be sure to check out even more Tax Day rippers on our YouTube page. Author Mary Roach is a hands-on writer specializing in science related topics that tap into some of the more curious and unexpected nooks of our lives. But “hands-on” doesn't fully capture the lengths she'll go to capture her stories – for her book examining the intricacies of sex, science, and relationships, she convinced her husband to have sex while monitored and recorded in an MRI, Ultrasound, Sonogram-like device…Really, no Really! Mary Roach is an author specializing in popular science and humor having written seven New York Times bestsellers, including Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex, STIFF: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers; GULP: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal, and PACKING FOR MARS: The Curious Science of Life in the Void and her latest book, FUZZ: When Nature Breaks the Law. Mary has written for National Geographic, Wired, The New York Times Magazine, Vogue, GQ, and the Journal of Clinical Anatomy, among many, many others. Her 2009 TED talk, "Ten Things You Didn't Know About Orgasm", made the organization's list of top 10 most popular talks of all time. IN THIS EPISODE: How Mary chooses esoteric and often taboo topics. Women's sexual arousal can be measured…or can it? Mary embraces the taboo, including researching how astronauts avoid “fecal decapitation.” The shocking places where donated cadavers can end up. Using the Scientific Method to “prove” the existence of a higher power. India's battles with elephants and monkeys. JUSTIN COTTLE, is the Lab Director and Content Creator of Institute of Human Anatomy. Founded in 2012, the Institute of Human Anatomy is a private human cadaver lab dedicated to providing anatomical, physiological, health, wellness, and fitness education to health professionals, pre-license students, and via social media, to the general public. They work directly with career and vocational colleges, accrediting agencies, medical device companies, and individual healthcare and wellness professionals to further advance education and medical understanding of the human body and its many systems. Since 2014, Justin had been teaching in both the classroom and lab with the help of fully embalmed (preserved) human cadavers. They do all the dissections in-house, and it's been his job to maintain the cadavers, as well as teach with them when groups come for in-person labs. In late 2019, Justin took the company online and began posting cadaveric based content on TikTok, of all places. It's not hyperbole to say that they were an overnight success. Since then, they now have 16M+ followers on social media and 900M+ videos viewed. Their mission is simple; educate as many people as possible about the one thing we all carry with us for the entirety of our lives — our bodies.

Send us a Text Message.Burial has always been a sacred thing, undertaken with utmost reverence and respect for the dead. Graveyards and cemeteries, while yes often creepy, are peaceful, quiet places. The wind rustles the leaves of a tree, a dove coos mournfully, a tearful widow silently places flowers on her late husband's grave. We typically think of graves as final resting places for the dead - the end of their stories here on Earth. But did you know, that wasn't always the case? 200 years ago, many newly buried bodies wouldn't rest for long. Did you know that as our collective medical knowledge and respect for science blossomed, so too did our need for human corpses. And that many of these cadavers were stolen from their graves by “body snatchers” who made a profitable business out of selling our dearly departed? Let's fix that. Our hands. How often do you think about your hands and all they do for you each and everyday? We put them to work the moment we get out of bed until we turn the lights off at night. Our hands grab, wave, lift, hold, caress..and in addition, our wrists and arms allow us to practice for example, the Long Stretch series on the Reformer, or the Pull Up on the Wunda chair. Did you know that the forearm alone has over twenty muscles? Though crucial to everyday activities, our hands don't get all that much attention. Joe understood this and invented devices to help strengthen fingers, hands and wrists. The Hands-Tens-O-meter and the Bean Bag roll up device can be found in many Pilates studios, and who knows what else Joe Pilates would have invented had he lived longer.About Darien Gold ~ https://www.dariengold.comMusic credits ~ AKA JohnnyInstagram: @theotherjohnmayerEmail: mayerranchrecordings@gmail.comAbout Institute of Human Anatomy ~-https://instituteofhumananatomy.com

Emergency cricothyrotomy is a rare, but incredibly important procedure that can be lifesaving. A primary step when performing a cricothyrotomy is correct identification of the cricothyroid membrane (CTM). In this episode Jeremy and Sass discuss the anatomy related to the CTM. They talk about palpation methods for finding the CTM, discuss current evidence for the use of ultrasound identification, and break down the ultrasound techniques that are useful in clinical practice. This is the podcast that will excite you to use POCUS for identification of the CTM! Here are some of the things you'll learn on this show: Understanding and identifying the anatomy. 2:21 The two most effective ways to find the cricothyroid membrane. 8:32 A couple of relevant studies that provide good information. 12:45 The ultrasound procedure to help identify it. 17:19 The educational resources that Jeremy recommends. 21:48 The String of Pearls technique. 22:40 Show Notes & Resources: Kristensen MS, Teoh WH, Rudolph SS.
